You know when you arrive at a hotel after being in a car for 8 hours, and you put that card key in the door and you're just not sure what to expect? You slowly open the door and whisper to yourself "okay, what did I pay for?" Well, the Sleep Inn in Middlesboro is one where you open the door and say "I ROCKED THIS RESERVATION!" The room is beautiful. Really, if this hotel was in Nashville you'd be paying $200/night for it. It's a luxury stay on the KY-TN border. We (me, husband and son) were so comfortable and relaxed in the room that we ended up just ordering some pizzas and having dinner in the room, rather than go out. Prior to this stay we had spent two nights at two different hotels - both with horrible beds which made our backs ache for miles and miles. The beds here? Wonderful. Soft. Comfortable. Restful. The front desk staff - pleasant, nice, smiling. The breakfast area was great, well-stocked, and lots of variety (I posted some pics.) If I ever go to Middlesboro or to any of the surrounding areas again, this is the ONLY place I will stay. Some Tips The hotel is set back off the road. The driveway up to the hotel is in between a Hardee's and a Holiday Inn Express. There's an 84 Lumber there, and the hotel was built way behind it. This is a dry county. So if you're planning on going out for drinks, or purchasing something to take back to your room, you can't. So, plan ahead if you'd like an adult beverage.

The wall had a huge hole in it that they attempted to patch. The bathroom smelled like mildew. The shower curtain had mold on it. The outlets were coming out of the walls. I was afraid to walk barefoot on the carpet. The pool was disgusting. Clumps of long hair floating in the water. Don't even want to give this place 1 star. We appreciated the hotel providing the first floor for my disabled wife. We did NOT appreciate the 7am construction RIGHT outside our window and RIGHT in the blocked EV charging lot. I chose this hotel and paid extra specifically because there was an EV charger. This place only has two, and blocking one is not cool. Starting construction outside my room while I have a disability that doesn't handle that isn't cool (that's not cool at ANY hotel). The digger was also perilously close to my car. A minor complaint - there were supposed to be two water bottle in our room. There weren't. The room was SIXTY degrees. I have brand loyalty to a fault. Once you piss me off, I have no reason to trust you again. You pissed me off. And at twice the price. Oh Hampton Inn...I remember paying extra for you twenty years ago and feeling good about it. Not ever. Not ever again. I can't say this forcefully enough. I stay in a lot of hotels, and I like to support companies that do well. You have left this support. While I appreciate accommodating my wife's disability by putting us in the first floor, my own disability (and probably every other human) can't tolerate construction sounds at 7am just outside their windows. I'm embarrassed for this hotel. Gross. My family and I will use our money more selectively in the future.

After all, hotels and motels refer to their customers as guests, and the front desk staff should reflect that attitude. When we arrived, the front desk employee was on the phone. He didn't even look up to acknowledge us or offer a simple greeting. Instead, we stood there waiting while he finished his conversation at his own pace before finally attending to us. The room itself was another disappointment. It felt very damp and had a musty, moldy smell. The bathroom had no exhaust fan, which likely contributed to the moisture problem. The bed linens and covers did not feel freshly washed or clean. Fortunately, I always travel with my own throw blanket and pillow, so I ended up using those instead. Overall, the stay was uncomfortable and the customer service fell short of what I expect from a hotel brand like Hampton Inn. I would not choose to stay here again unless there were no other available options
