You know when you arrive at a hotel after being in a car for 8 hours, and you put that card key in the door and you're just not sure what to expect? You slowly open the door and whisper to yourself "okay, what did I pay for?" Well, the Sleep Inn in Middlesboro is one where you open the door and say "I ROCKED THIS RESERVATION!" The room is beautiful. Really, if this hotel was in Nashville you'd be paying $200/night for it. It's a luxury stay on the KY-TN border. We (me, husband and son) were so comfortable and relaxed in the room that we ended up just ordering some pizzas and having dinner in the room, rather than go out. Prior to this stay we had spent two nights at two different hotels - both with horrible beds which made our backs ache for miles and miles. The beds here? Wonderful. Soft. Comfortable. Restful. The front desk staff - pleasant, nice, smiling. The breakfast area was great, well-stocked, and lots of variety (I posted some pics.) If I ever go to Middlesboro or to any of the surrounding areas again, this is the ONLY place I will stay. Some Tips The hotel is set back off the road. The driveway up to the hotel is in between a Hardee's and a Holiday Inn Express. There's an 84 Lumber there, and the hotel was built way behind it. This is a dry county. So if you're planning on going out for drinks, or purchasing something to take back to your room, you can't. So, plan ahead if you'd like an adult beverage.

They have packets of colored water to give you. Oh ..hope you don't have a low hanging car, cause there's a slope that will tear up your car if you do. And pool?? Forget it. Its a drowning waiting to happen. Don't expect much help from the front desk, they will give you a card and tell you to call a number and when you call the number the person will sound a LOT like the desk clerk of the inn. Our room (17) was newly (and completely) renovated, top to bottom. All new bath. Some weird things: big room with minimal furniture. Light switch for bathroom is across the room (like not in the bathroom at all) with a group of 5-6 switches for almost everything else in the unit EXCEPT the one blinding light above the refrigerator. The headboard for the king bed is for a Full bed, which seems to be so you can reach those 5-6 switches, and the one side of the bed is about 18" from the huge windows. Kind of gross having to rub against those old curtains when you get up, knowing that tons of other people have had to rub against them, too. Move the bed across the room to where the TV is. Only other issue is the bath towels which seem to be cheap, worn out, and are very very rough, too the point of being almost painful.

Called ahead for a room that was available and got there to be told a much higher rate on top of many other inconveniences.

Private sole hotel brand…read more I arrived in for an early check in and I found that this hotel was located in a residential part of the city. There are not too many restaurants, if any, lots of houses, a church, etc. The entrance is only on one side. If one were to drive in according to the "Maps" app, it will take you to the one road (this is the only road to access Benham). Trust me, I tried the road next to it thinking that was a way to the back parking lot and I was already on someone's property (thinking I was going to get threatened or shot) Anyway, the entrance on the one road that the "MAPS" app leaves you on is on the left and there are four spots for registration only parking. The rest are behind the hotel, which one will have to take what looks like an impassable entrance to get there. This needs to be fixed because it is a liability on the hotel if a customer scratches their car against the wall, on the turn. Issues with room: Some other things I noticed were that the door to the hotel room reflexes to closed, which means you need to push it a bit more than a usual hotel door and while carrying luggage in, it could become an issue. There were a lack of outlets I found in the room. The outlets I did find were in inconvenient places like near the t.v., at ground level and near the sink. One will not be able to work on their laptop in this kind of setup. There is no elevator in this place. One will have to carry their luggage up the stairs. The walls are paper thin. I could hear a gal and guy next door to my room. I could not hear what they were actual saying, BUT could here them speaking something. From the atmosphere, I love the couches in the hallway. I had a chance to sit in one of the comfy chairs. Overall, the concept of a schoolhouse is great, but it needs to be more modernized in terms of hotel standards (elevator, widened entrance to the back parking lot.) Requested items: If you need an iron and iron board, you will have to request this at the registration desk (on your left when you enter this hotel). If you want to inquire about complimentary snacks, you will have to request this. They do have free snacks and so one can skip the vending machines. I ended up spending a $1 because I thought that was all they had. They also have a carbonated beverage vending machine as well (all I survived on while here was Great Value Glacier Ranch chips, Yoplait yogurt, water, and trail mix for dinner. In the morning, I ate Cinnamon Toast Crunch in an out of a to go container and a honeybun.) Edit: I checked on my cell phone and yes, there are literally no restaurants close to this place (everything is actually in the neighboring city of Cumberland, KY). Bathroom standards: Good ply toilet paper. Thick. Soft, fluffy towels. But bathroom fan is loud and makes grinding noises (room 1942). Suggestions: This hotel could use a business center for guests. And a fun comment...... This hotel is interesting, an old school house turn hotel. I am not sure why they do not have THOSE kind of conventions held here. You know those...non-vanilla relationship ones....SCHOOL HOUSE. ;)

The entire operation is poorly run, and lacks basics. Either do it right or shut it down.

We appreciated the hotel providing the first floor for my disabled wife. We did NOT appreciate the 7am construction RIGHT outside our window and RIGHT in the blocked EV charging lot. I chose this hotel and paid extra specifically because there was an EV charger. This place only has two, and blocking one is not cool. Starting construction outside my room while I have a disability that doesn't handle that isn't cool (that's not cool at ANY hotel). The digger was also perilously close to my car. A minor complaint - there were supposed to be two water bottle in our room. There weren't. The room was SIXTY degrees. I have brand loyalty to a fault. Once you piss me off, I have no reason to trust you again. You pissed me off. And at twice the price. Oh Hampton Inn...I remember paying extra for you twenty years ago and feeling good about it. Not ever. Not ever again. I can't say this forcefully enough. I stay in a lot of hotels, and I like to support companies that do well. You have left this support. While I appreciate accommodating my wife's disability by putting us in the first floor, my own disability (and probably every other human) can't tolerate construction sounds at 7am just outside their windows.
