While camping at Otsego State Park, we checked out Yelp to find a spot for dinner. Based on the good reviews, we chose Pine Squirrel. I was curious about other reviews that mentioned the staff not wearing masks. Sure enough, we were greeted by a server wearing her mask under her chin. The whole time we were there, it never covered her mouth. Pretty sad, especially considering the sign right next to the door said something along the line of "please wear a mask" and by the way, whether you like it or not, it's the law at this time. Anyway, back to the food. Everything on the menu looked good...I had the Italian Grinder and my wife had the Cuban Grinder. We both agreed they were 5 out of 5! Perfect portion, delicious fries. I was very excited to finally visit the Pine Squirrel this weekend after stumbling on their menu recently and I'm happy to say that the food lived up to my hopes! I had the Squirrel Nest salad and I could eat it every day! My husband indulged me and ordered the Irish Nachos, also delicious! First time coming here, was a bit skeptical coming in the side door and weren't greeted for a couple minutes, but the food couldn't have been better if they tried. My boyfriend tried the squirrel burger and hasn't stopped talking about how perfectly made it was, crisp bacon, meat cooked properly. Never had the chance to eat here. Two stars due to the service or lack thereof. We sat down and we're interested in eating. There were no menus on the table. So my friend went up to the bar and asked for a menu. And off duty manager who was drinking on the job said your waitress will be right with you. Waitress came by and then the manager jumped on the table and asked "Is there a problem?" My friend responded "Yeah it's you" They did not like that. We were looking for a good pizza place on our way home from the UP and this place came up in our Yelp search as #1 for pizza in the area. We were hesitant upon first sight. The square tile carpet looked like it had seen better days and the darkness of place made it feel more like a bar setting than a restaurant (which I think it is, but we were traveling with 2 children). We ordered the pizza and we were not disappointed one bit. It may rival the best pizza we've ever had!!! The crust is flavored with a garlic butter/Italian seasoning. Adults can make their own 9" 3-topping pizza for $9. We were so pleased with our selection. If we are ever driving through Gaylord ever again, we may just go out of our way for the pizza. This is definitely a mixed bag. This is a gorgeous northern Michigan venue Some of the regular entrees deserve high marks as do a few of the employees. The Michigan Salad, Walleye and Nachos are delectable and generous servings. Most of the barmaids and waitstaff are decent. Unfortunately, you are apt to recall who is not. On several occasions, I have experience less than poor service from a barmaid who is insolent, loud and rude - This individual boldly serves her friends before you who have arrived after you have been waiting for service. She and people like her would not last a single shift in a reputable eatery/bar elsewhere. Staff like her can sour you on patronizing the place. Generally, I get the worst service 'up north' slow, people don't know what they're doing, definitely the B Crew employees. If you do not hail from the area and are known to be a transplant you will be shunned and ostracized by the locals, most of whom will need a dictionary to understand this scathing review! read more

great small town place. Bartender was so nice and attentive. Some of the best pizza I've had in a long time.

My wife and I came in for dinner. We ordered drinks and got them right away. We ordered food and then waited for an hour... No food came. The waitress spent the entire hour at bar talking with the bartender and the other wait staff. After we got her attention, she let us know that there were thirty orders ahead of us. If the kitchen is backed up when a customer orders food you should let them know, or at least check to see if they want another drink. Also this is crazy because when we arrived the place was half empty. I cancelled our food, paid for the drinks, and left. Beer was good, and the food sounded good.
