I took my gaming PC to this store because of the black screen of death, expecting professional service based on their good Yelp reviews. Instead, I was told I might need a whole new PC and that the turnaround would take 5-6 days--unless I paid a $100 rush fee just to get in line with 12 other people. On top of that, there was a diagnostic fee of $30-$50, plus repair costs starting at $500 and up. At that point, it felt more like a cash grab than a genuine repair service. Frustrated, I looked elsewhere and found a tech on Craigslist who charged a straightforward $50 per hour. He came to my place, diagnosed the issue, and identified the necessary part. Since he was a mobile tech and I caught him at the end of his shift, he had to order it. The part arrived two days later, and while I was able to install it myself, he was readily available to help if needed. In the end, I saved both time and money by going with a more transparent and reliable option. Safe to say, I won't be returning to this shop. I've included photos of the error messages I got when my cpu messed up. Not in correct order but the black screen was the final message prompting me to go into the repair shop. read more

Took a week to get a diagnosis because we didn't pay the rush fee, then the repair would of cost more thank we paid for the computer. I have had better service at other places, I won't be back. Everything went well overall, and the staff was nice and upfront about stuff, including that there were 4 others in front of us so there would be a wait, but a week was excessive. read more

After being a tech guard member for several years it was highly disappointing when I called and needed a quick fix and was told that I had to wait for 24 hours and someone would call me the next day between 2 and 4 PM. I was rarely asking for any help and yet I was being charged monthly to wait 24 hours for assistance. I was able to call a competing company and they were able to help me immediately for $45. I would highly recommend you not use this company. They are very slow on service and then give you a window of several hours when you are supposed to sit around and wait on them to contact you. I also ask to speak to the owner and was told they could not give me that information. Apparently the owner is to busy to deal with high priority tech guard members that pay a premium. I just left the store right now. Came in for a problem with my laptop charger. I plugged it into an outlet in the common area in my building and the outlet lit on fire, so I thought charger needed to be replaced but they did a test for me and it did not need to be replaced thankfully. I appreciate how they didn't charge me anything and they didn't try and upsell me on anything either, genuinely good people. read more

I was looking for a power cord to replace one I lost when my house flooded during the recent storm. I popped my head in tonight to see if they might have the cord for me. When I opened the door the man immediately said "we are closed" despite the lights being on, door open, open sign illuminated outside, two employees inside and a customer at the counter with her computer open. I politely said oh gosh I'm sorry I was just looking for a power cord. The man at the counter looked at someone closer to the back of the store for direction and said "power cord" and the other employee (clearly some sort of management position) looked up, and then said "closed". The man at the counter then said sorry we are closed. I walked out and simply laughed at the complete lack of customer service for a simple request. Probably would have taken 2 minutes maximum to let me know if they carried the cable. Unfortunate because I thought of stopping in this shop having passed it many times in the past. read more

Needed a laptop keyboard cleaned - I thought - but ultimately needed to have it replaced to deal with 4 years of gunk. Steps: * Brought the laptop in, they checked the model number, put down $30 deposit * Got a call a couple days later, they ordered the part * A week later brought the laptop in late morning, they fixed it same day! Was ready by 5. They also cleaned out my fans and things that really needed it while they were in there. Contrast this with Best Buy Geek Squad, where I took the laptop first: * Made me schedule an appt over phone or online * Called - was told they could fix it in 2 biz days. Bad for work but, fine. * Earliest appt was at 7:40pm on a Saturday - who wants to be stuck at Geek Squad on a Saturday night? * Arrived to find that appt was ignored and they were doing it by whoever showed up at the store first * 30mins after appt time, they ask me up and inform me it'll be 5 business days and most of the time the laptop will just be sitting there "Checked In" while they do nothing to it. Pinellas Computers of Tyrone So on September 9 my daughter brought her laptop to them the problem was the right side hinge froze and broke the back cover. Then gave a estimate for repair when I asked why is the screen being replaced they said it was broken. When I informed them that it was not broken when we brought it to them. They admitted that they cracked it so they would not charge me. I was pissed they tried that. Then we get another call the keys stick another way to get 90 dollars unfortunately they weren't ever a problem declined that. 3 weeks after doing the hinge and back cover replacement now they found a new problem that's directly attached to the hinge. That part comes in broken and now there's no stock anywhere but finds one thats 6xs the price. now I am a very upset customer and the manager offers me to put back all the broken parts and charge me nothing or take it as is. This place is a complete scam they will just keep trying for that extra. And they shipped it to the Clearwater location for faster service stay away and be very careful. read more

Too bad we have to use one star as that is 1 too many. Worst experience ever with a computer business. Never fixed the problem with the laptop I brought in. Charged me hundreds of dollars. While my laptop was in their procession, it was hacked (I am assuming by their own employee). They charged me over $1000 to look into the hack. They never solved anything. They just told me to change our passwords. Meanwhile I was being charged monthly for virus protection (their website claims 100% protection). They added service which never worked. I have every screen shot proving this. Now they turned me into a collection agency for the unpaid invoice. I wouldn't recommend them to my enemies. read more

I turned in my computer to them a few months ago just for a tune-up. It took four days for them to run the systems they said would only take one day. My computer is working 100 times worse than before. I can't do anything on it. I should have bought a new computer though mine is only two years old. It would have been cheaper and running better. I strongly recommend NOT to use them. It seems like a hit and miss operation if they do a good job or not. Not worth the risk. I'm going back to Best Buy. read more

Twice we have taken a computer here with a minor issue, paid for the diagnostic and gotten a call that there was several hundred dollars worth of repairs to be completed. After picking up the PC/laptop and going to either Best buy or a family friend, the computer was fixed for a relatively small amount of money. The last time, we were told the motherboard, the video card and the power supply were broken. Turns out it was a fan and after replacing the fan the computer worked just fine. read more

Man, I feel bad when I have a mediocre experience at a local business, but I recently had a mediocre experience here. So, we know what the issue with the laptop is. We know what part it needs because fiddling with the power cord tells us the DC jack either needs to be re-soldered or replaced. We walked in around 2p.m. and left it overnight for diagnostics to run. We were told we should receive a call around the same time the following day with an update. We opted out of the software one because it's an obvious issue, but the guy kept saying that could be the problem. He said he would skip that part of their testing after some insistence. So the following day rolls around - no update by midday, called to hear they haven't done anything with it yet, and after some discussion we decided to just drop in and go pick the thing up because it felt like a waste of time. We showed up about an hour before they close, and they had only just started on the hardware scan a little before we arrived... And they still haven't done the software one. Which we opted out of the day before. Guess that 24 hour estimate before should be 48. So, we left the laptop there and said we would pick it up the following day after all their testing, and about 15 minutes later I received a phone call saying the manager was willing to make an exception to the protocol of requiring all these free (but time-consuming) diagnostics. We could have the one part changed out, and if it didn't fix our problem, we would be SOL. How much would it be? About $90 for the labor and $40 for the part. I turned the car around, went back, and picked the laptop back up. I just spent some time helping tear apart this beat up machine to check the part, and picked one up on eBay for a whole $13. I guess that's what one would expect from a place that advertises virus removal for $59. Maybe it's a solid winner for old people who have no idea what to do when they have a problem. read more

To transfer data from a broken computer cost $60 for a 'diagnostic" - I was given no estimate on fixing the computer but only told the data could be removed. So, if it was not able to be removed you're out the $60. Then, if the data can be removed it is $90 more ($150 total) to put the data on your thumb drive ($30 if they provide, $7 at Best Buy next door) for between 10GB and 100GB. Ours was 24GB and $150 total to put on our thumb drive. They don't just say this up front, you start with the diagnostic fee and it goes up from there. Maybe this is a competitive price but I'd shop around and personally won't be back and would have been a lot happier if they had been upfront with the costs at the beginning. One star, service was completed. Second star because they were accommodating when we mistakenly brought in the wrong computer for repair at first, didn't charge a second diagnostic fee, of course that computer didn't need diagnosing since I knew the screen was broken and data could easily and freely be transferred by attaching it to a monitor but they charged $60 anyway. I was called and told the diagnostic was done before I reached home after leaving the store, at most 20 minutes. read more

My initial contact with Pinellas Computers was through the website when I scheduled an appointment. I was contacted shortly after making the appointment because I didn't need an appointment and I was told I could proceed directly to the store. I went to the store and several friendly faces welcomed me right in. They took a deposit and I left my computer for a diagnostic check. They told me my harddrive crashed and they extracted data from the corrupt drive and migrated it to a flash drive. It was pretty seemless and they didn't make me feel stupid for being a technology neophyte. I would definitely go back... but I really hope I don't have to! :) read more
