Today was time to try another pizza place. My favorite pizza is New York style, but I am open-minded and have often loved other varieties. At Pinellas Pizzeria we were warmly greeted and well-served today by one of the friendly guys that runs the place. We decided on an 18" pepperoni pizza. I am guessing it was Chicago style?? It was very good. It had a little more thick dough to it than I cared for. It was also unique to see the pizza sliced into squares and rectangles. I also noticed the order of toppings was different than what I'm used to. In New York the toppings go over the cheese. Here the cheese goes over the toppings. I loved the pizza sauce. It was a very thick & tomatoey & flavorful sauce. The cheese topping was not skimpy. The pepperonis tasted good as well. It was fun trying something new. Pinellas Pizzeria proves New York certainly does not have a monopoly on good pizza.

Large pepperoni and sausage. Less than $25 out the door!

I've reviewed before about this place and I am back as a reminder, best dang pizza around!!! And, it is a serious pizza! Good tasting crust and sauce and lots of cheese and toppings! The only place I can buy one pizza and feed myself and my two adult sons! We drive 20 minutes to pick up and totally worth it! Also, they are extremely nice!!! Go get a pizza and enjoy!!!

    Veal Parm. Absolutely amazing.

Probably the best thing about this place is their willingness to cater to your irrational sense of proper. While dining here, some guy wanted a pizza with Parmigiano in place of mozzarella because that's the "right" way. They smiled and he loved his pizza. I ordered the veal Parmigiano because I was unable to find a review for it. The portion was large enough for two and old-school amazing. It came with a side of pasta topped with their legendary meat sauce. I'm used to substandard service when dining alone. At this joint tho, I seemed to get extra attention. Two of the owners dropped by to chat with me and the server was extra friendly, too. One of the owners explained that much of what they offer originated outta a whole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop place his parents operated in Connecticut since the 60's. Their menu seems limited but is still somehow stacked with "absolutey-must-try" entrees. Before leaving, I ordered a steak bomb to go. I reheated it later and it was spectacular. I had to try the pizza with the funky crust, too so I ordered that a week after my initial visit. While the crust wasn't my all-time favorite, it was a refreshing change from the usual. Their pizza sauce is definitely next-level. I saw the lasagna someone else ordered while eating there and immediately vowed to return for some even tho it's not something I generally order. I haven't tried it yet and would order some right this second if they were open on Mondays. The hype is real, guys.

As many of you may know I eat pizza often and I trie to visit differ establishments to see who's pizza is best. I got the steak grinder, a pepperoni pizza, a calzone and some fries. We ordered to go and brought it home with us. I ate half of the steak grinder and saved the rest for the following day. The pizza went straight into the fridge . It was only 2 of us eating and we had a lot of food. The food: was delicious the steak grinder I ate tasted very authentic and the bread was nice and crispy just the way I love it. Warning on the pizza I ordered a small pizza and was a thick crust pizza cut into squares. I only wrote warning so that you don't expected a hand tossed pizza. Either way food is worth it. The atmosphere: although it's in a small shopping plaza on the side of the building and the plaza looks dated. Inside not much different in terms of dated but that can be overlooked the food is the prize here. The service: great customer service and the front desk lady (sorry forgot her name) was exceptionally nice. She talked with us as she worked until we received our meal. The owner of the restaurant is the one that's makes the food The leftover: I am not a big fan of leftovers but let me tell you, I warmed my 1/2 a sub and the pizza the next morning and absolutely still tasted amazing.

Their sauce has just a tad of spice just perfect and the pizza is to die for! The owners are super!

All over the country and world. The restaurant was small, old school. They also have an outdoor covered patio ( we sat inside) The pizza was outstanding, I get the hype. We had the Quattro Formaggi ( four cheese including ricotta and goat cheese) ... added pepperoni. Arugula salad with shaved parm and sun dried tomatoes was a great starter. So much on the menu looked / sounded amazing but I was there for the pizza. Staff was great/ friendly / efficient ... if we lived closer, I'd eat here every week.

Unfortunately, the dishes I ordered were edible but bad. First things first, the tables were uneven, which made dining feel like we were eating on a seesaw every time someone moved or put pressure on the table. Most of the staff, including the bussers, came across as rude and inconvenienced. The only positive part of the service was our server, she was friendly and attentive. As for the food, it was very mediocre and did not feel authentic or up to the standard I would expect from an Italian restaurant. The penne vodka was bad. The sauce was bright red rather than the creamy pink vodka sauce you typically expect, and the pasta itself tasted like standard boxed pasta rather than a higher-quality imported product. I also ordered a caesar salad and specifically requested no Caesar dressing since I have an anchovy allergy. I asked for balsamic vinegar and oil on the side. When the salad arrived, the Caesar dressing cup had been placed directly against the lettuce and was touching pieces of the salad. I pointed this out because cross contamination is a serious concern for people with food allergies. Rather than immediately replacing it, the bus boy seemed dismissive of the issue and did not appear to understand the seriousness of allergy related cross contamination. That alone told me all I needed to know. The replacement salad itself was average at best and tasted like something you could easily make at home. The vegetables served with the meal had the texture and flavor of frozen vegetables that had simply been steamed from a bag. Overall, nothing about the meal stood out, and the servers and staff were not friendly.

I ordered a large cheese pizza and…read morechicken alfredo fettuccine, and both dishes were extremely underwhelming and honestly unpleasant. The menu claims the food is "made from scratch," but that was very hard to believe. The pizza sauce tasted like it came straight from a can, with absolutely no visible seasoning or flavor. It was bland and tasted processed. The chicken alfredo fettuccine also tasted artificial, nothing like a fresh or homemade alfredo sauce. It lacked the rich, creamy flavor you would expect from a scratch-made dish. What made the situation worse was the customer service. When I politely brought the issue to their attention and explained that the food did not taste fresh, they refused to take the food back or make it right. There was no attempt to resolve the issue or show any concern for the customer's experience. Unfortunately, between the poor food quality and lack of customer service, I would not recommend this restaurant. There are far too many places that value quality and their customers to spend money here.

No big deal for a bigger pie, actually. One thing I neglected to mention about the toppings on this thing...they are fresh! No canned mushrooms or soggy pepper chunks on this bad boy. Again, the veggies are plentiful and there's enough protein (sausage, pepperoni and mutz) to keep the flavor going. I know Westshore just up the street uses canned veggies on their pies...yet another valid reason to stay away from there. Now here's an interesting side note...I made the call to place the order. For a split second I thought I dialed the wrong number. A lady with a thick Asian accent answered and I had to slow down a bit to make sure I understood her and conveyed my own information properly. When I get there to pick up, indeed an Asian lady (Vietnamese, actually) was behind the counter running the place. I usually get the owner himself, but he wasn't anyplace in the small store. This time, meanwhile, their newest menu was plastered onto the pizza box. One of the oddities I noticed in the appetizer section of their menu is "Vietnamese Egg Rolls." I'd seen it previously but thought nothing of it. So putting two and two together I figured out that Mrs. Owner was in charge today! Now the egg roll app makes a lil more sense! So the big thing out of all this is what I'd said previously...I am glad to support these local "little guy" operations. I'm particularly proud to do so when I see a hard working couple running an operation like this rather than filling some third party's pocket. She was a very nice, polite lady, much as her husband is a well mannered man. Both are friendly and solicitous, and they know how to make a mean pie. I highly recommend them; I would just get it to go, because the shop itself wins no prize at all.
