I recently started coming here because I wanted to try to do more ice skating and I had a Groupon for a month of ice skating lessons. Right from the first day everybody here was so friendly and getting checked in each time I come has been a breeze! The prices here are reasonable and it costs $14 for admission and if you need skates it is another $6. Luckily for me I can come when I want and get skates included in my lessons. The place could definitely use a little bit of a touch up but they do have a food and drink area as well a concession stand that has pretty decent prices. I have gotten their hot chocolate a couple times and it is very refreshing and warms me up nicely after a lesson of ice skating! They have open skating in the morning and afternoon but I do wish they could have a little more control over the open skating because there have been so many times I've almost run over kids because the staff members are not watching kids that are going sideways or the wrong way as everyone else. Overall an amazing Ice Arena , which could use a little bit of a refresh, but nothing that would prevent me from coming here in the future when I'm done with my lessons! read more

An ice skating arena for both figure skating and hockey in Pembroke Pines. This ice arena has been a staple for our community ever since I was a little kid. I remember coming here for night skating sessions with friends and even birthday parties. Albeit a bit run down (I mean, it has been here for yearssss), this spot is still poppin' on the weekends and evenings. I came recently for a public skating session with a friend and it was super crowded but everyone was having a great time. During public skating, they cater to the youth with fun lights (even in the daytime it looked like an evening skate session indoors) and the "Let it go" Frozen song playing every so often with "snow" falling onto the rink. I also started skating classes here and was surprised by how many people take lessons, ranging from 3 year olds to adults. I was a bit nervous taking lessons with the age range being so wide but they split the lessons into different groups with kids in some and teen/adults in another along with skill level. I just started but so far, I do love the way they split the groups and it's super beginner + intermediate friendly. Fair warning- the bathrooms aren't the best and a bit run down. You can't get away from the fact that this place is a mix of sweat and cold, which isn't the best as far as odor. Also, lockers are only paid in quarters and are $1.50 to use them. They have a change machine so definitely bring dollar bills with you if you don't have quarters. They also have an ATM but you can only take out a minimum of $20 and would have to ask the office to give you change for your large bill. Skate rentals are available and normal run of the mill rentals. If you're looking for gear or skates, they have a pro shop at the front. The food is as iconic + nostalgic as I remember. Definitely nothing to write home about, but I love it for the nostalgia factor alone. Hot chocolate is a great staple here and the cookies are me and my best friend's favorite since childhood, with a good crisp and served warm. Super happy they still do Groupon offers for this business because that's what I used for both the public skate and lessons! For public skate, they are discounted for two people and comes with skate rentals plus hot chocolate! Overall, a great spot to go ice skating in Broward if you're looking for something fun to do or even take lessons. read more

We hosted our child's birthday party here and had such a wonderful experience. We reserved the large room and rented skating guides, which was absolutely the right decision -- I highly recommend doing that when booking. We were able to bring everything we needed, and the hostess was professional, flexible, and quick to assist with anything that came up. The kids and parents had an amazing time. The ice rink was excellent, and both the facility and party room were very clean. My child loved it so much that they've already asked to have their next party here again! read more

Two stars because you get a long skating session (4 hours) for a reasonable price. Skates are so-so, not the most comfortable but not the worst either. The main problem is that the skating experience here is chaotic. They don't enforce the rule that all skaters should be skating in the same direction, so you are dodging skaters coming at you all the time. The ice is also extremely crowded due to the many birthday parties going on at once. The dolphins they rent to "assist" skaters get in the way and most of the time aren't used for their intended purpose - they are used as a sled to give rides to skaters around the ice. Plus, there are too many of them on the ice. Overall, I won't be going back. I've skated in many rinks before and this was the first time I left early because it was more frustrating than enjoyable. read more

This is a great place for birthday parties. My son and his friends had a fantastic time. The server was average and was a little slow on refilling the drinks. The food was the typical pizza, chicken and popcorn. It can get a little pricey if you start ordering lots of food and drinks. We brought our own cake and they provided the forks, napkins and plates. We received two training seals with the package and that was plenty. Most of the kids got the hang of ice skating after a few times around the rink. The only reason why it's not a five star rating is that it is very expensive if you come during free skate. You pay the same price whether you get there when it opens or ten minutes before the free skate finishes. I'd love for them to pro rate it or maybe let people in for free if there is only thirty minutes or less of free skate left. They should also offer coupons. My son has suggested that he might want his birthday party here again next year. Stay tuned! read more

Small shop inside Pines Ice Arena where you can buy ice skates, hockey sticks, gloves, accessories, apparel. They have anywhere from regular ice skates, figure skating skates and hockey skates. If you need figure skating or hockey apparel, equipment or accessories, this place probably has what you need. They also sharpen ice skate blades in house. We came in here looking for blade covers. Alex was the employee working and was very helpful and patient while helping us. He informed us that he could cut the blade covers to size and assemble for us. There wasn't much of a color selection, only pink glitter or purple glitter. We ended up getting the Top Notch brand. Alex said it was the least expensive option. The cost was $14.95. Once we paid for it, Alex went to work and sized up the cover and cut accordingly. It was quite a process and I'm so glad we paid to get it done here. Quick and efficient. Done in 10 minutes. Thanks Alex for the excellent customer service! We appreciate your help during our visit. He was also multi-tasking and helped every single person that came in while he was putting together the blade covers for us. That's dedication to the job! read more

I got a front row seat to the Pines Ice Arena thank to my friend who has been coming here for years with her kids. The Pines Ice Arena is open for birthday parties, public skates, figure skating, and ice hockey games. Open skates are $14 and ice skates can be rented or $6. They offer learn to skate programs with certified instructors in group and private lessons. Places to ice skate are a rarity in tropical South Florida so this is a great resource for winter sports loving Broward residents. My friend and I had a beer next door at JP Mulligans which has a large window that looks on to the arena. As we shared a drink and chatted we got to watch the youth team have a game and then the adults. This is the first pub I have been in that is attached to an ice rink. Pines ice arena is the closest and basically only ice skating rink that is open to the public near me. Any time that I am here I always feel welcomed and loved how clean and friendly the staff is. I have never gone a single time without having a lot of fun and working out basically every part of my body that I didn't know I needed to be in shape LOL! The pricing is decent here and the skating admission gets you access to all day skating and you are able to rent some of their skates there for an additional fee which isn't that bad in my opinion. They always have a bunch of different size skate so you don't have to worry about asking for a pair and then being stuck with a size that might be too small or too large. The staff is also very friendly and if anyone ever falls on the ice they always have a couple workers on it coming over instantly to make sure you're okay or to help you up if you might need assistance in getting up if you fell. Every so often they will clear off the ice and bring the Zamboni out to make the ice smooth and flat again because of the constant wear and tear from the skate blades from the copious amounts of people here. They also offer a little tiny snack bar that sells a multitude of things such as candy, hot chocolate and a few little generic food such as french fries and chicken tenders and cheeseburgers. I usually get their hot chocolate and it is usually some of the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Overall this is probably my favorite ice rink to go to and I am always surprised when I check into a place and notice the reviews are not what I'm expecting them to be. Maybe there he have some off days but anytime that I have ever been here I have never felt unwelcomed or a burden while I am here! read more

Came here with my daughter on a Saturday night and let her friends and her skate while I waited. The Dolphins Bills Game was on TV and I asked several people if they could put the game on one of the 3 TVs while I was boringly waiting. Was told NO we are not allowed to change channels. Even the older man in the Office acted like they asked him something crazy? And he shrugged it off like her could care less. This was a great summer activity that helped beat the heat. The staff was friendly and they offer a snack / food bar menu that I will say is larger than most places like them. I.e. bowling alley, skating ring etc. This place isn't only for little kids it's for adults and teenagers as well. They have two large skating rinks one which you were allowed to use. I haven't been ice skating in years and when my aunt found a great Groupon for the Pines Arena we said why not? We came early Saturday morning and it was nice to find that it was empty and not too crowed. Although they had signs enforcing masks, there were no temperature checks or a change or limitation on capacity so I was grateful to have come on an empty day. As soon as we got there my daughter needed to use the restroom. When we walked into the restroom I wanted to die! It was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Several of the stalls had feces all over the seat and some were just plain gross! It's evident that the young staff put their priority in chatting rather than cleanliness which is a disappointment especially during times like these. I will say that the young staff member assisting on the ice was quick and helpful with anyone struggling. Which was nice compared to the ones working at the skate rental and food area. The kids had a good time and that's the only reason for the two stars but I can't say that I'll be back. They need to put some time and effort into cleanliness and upkeep. It looks like the place hasn't been updated in years. I don't even want to think about how many feet have been in those skates or the last time the carpet has been cleaned in the main area. If your going to just skate, check it out. However, I would suggest you eat and use the restroom before you get there. read more

Definitely a teen hangout spot but it didn't matter what level of an ice skater you are. The novices stayed to the border and held on for dear life, which made grabbing a piece of the wall for balance difficult. The safest less crowded area to skate was in the center if you are bold enough to cross to it. There are party room that have an entrance straight into the ice which looks nice. The line to get skates can be long on the weekend and the skate quality is not great. There is no cushion support for your feet so if you have ankle injuries bring support for them or if you go often I recommend buying your own. There are some that look like for hockey but they appear to be more for larger men's shoe sizes. There is a secondary ice ring dedicated to hockey, and the UM team plays or practices there. read more

I've lived in Pines for about 20 years now and Pines I've had always been around. I used to go skate there for hours and even got my first set of stitches after slamming my face off the ice way back when, so it has some serious memories I recently took my kids there for the first time and while my daughter (3) didn't really wanna skate, seeing my 6 year old learning took me back. I do think at $15 a person it's a little expensive ($60 for the family) but it was a good time. Snack bar is stocked with the kind of goodies you expect and the have the music and lights going. We will be back to skate again and hopefully keep the kids on the ice a little longer next time! :) read more

Came by on a Saturday for the Free skate. I never even made it inside...no organization at the counter, no social distancing at the counter either. People were crowded at the counter, and other patrons kept trying to cut in front of me because I insisted on waiting outside while the group that was in the lobby finished paying (people didn't like that...go figure). Based on the complete lack of social distancing and mask wearing that was going on at the counter, I'm going to assume that, based on the number of cars in the parking lot and the number of people waiting to get in, that the situation wasn't much better inside. Maybe I'll try again on a weekday, but what I saw today was completely unsafe and the owners of this establishment need to make more of an effort to do the bare minimum to keep their patrons safe.. read more

We went for open skate on a Saturday afternoon. Dress warmly! You pay for open skate ($10/person) and the skate rental ($4/person). There are lockers to keep your belongings that require 4 quarters. There is a machine to change your $1 bill to quarters. there is a concession stand selling moderately priced food....elephant ears, popcorn, pizza, etc. There are private rooms around the rink you may rent for parties. There is a separate rink for the ice hockey teams. Mulligans Sports Bar overlooks the ice hockey team rink. Overall, it's a clean place. It is old looking and could use some decor updates....but it's an ice rink so I won't be too picky. read more

I have been a local / infrequent customer since childhood and only recently decided to bite the bullet and enroll in an 8 week learn-to-skate program. The first couple weeks were thrilling as my instructor pushed us with new skills . Somehow halfway through , students were shifted and I found myself in the bottom class again where they did not progress past the first two skills I had learned weeks ago. Thankfully I spoke up and they separated a couple of us more advanced ones so we wouldn't be bored out of our minds. My second issue was the fact that I ordered skates nearly two months ago and have yet to receive it. The first person took the order wrong the second person said it was back ordered and then they skipped a week of ordering for the holiday and now my session is over and I have yet to use the skates I paid for. I'm pretty upset about it. Everything is fine here but the organizational skills of the place. Once I get my skates I'm not coming back. read more

I have been going here for months and usually it is a nice experience. Today was disappointing because it was ultra crowded and just was not safe. Look at the packed crowds during a pandemic--and a good number of people had their masks fully or partly off. The manager, Mike, just did not take this seriously at all. I had to insist before they at least made a PA announcement asking people to wear their masks. I understand it is not an easy situation, but look at this photo (I have many more) - it wasn't at all safe. I am writing to report a not so wonderful experience at the rink today during public skating. All of this occurred between 3:30 PM (EST) and 5:00 PM (EST) on 12/17/23. First of all, the women's restroom was disgusting. There was toilet paper all over he floors and the disposals in the stalls were brimming and bloody tampons and maxi pads were visible. Secondly, I asked two of your staff members to take some video and their reluctance was both obvious and unprofessional. The first time I asked this teen to take video she stated she could not because the chicken was about to come out but that after that she stated,"I can take all the video you want." This occurred at approximately 4:45 PM (EST) on 12/17/23. The female who had previously agreed said,"I have to go...," trailed off, and then tried to get the male to take the video. The male made a sour face and said,"I play hockey and I just got back on the ice." No "I'm sorry." I just skated away because their reluctance/ unwillingness. These two proceeded to talk until 5:00 PM (EST). I had been considering joining the Adult Hockey Clinics or one of the LTS classes but after this experience I will not. I am extremely disappointed. read more

Mostly go for father & son times on Saturdays. Unfortunately, there are no rules governing the use of the ice during this time. This time should be designated for families (fathers, sons, mothers, daughters) at least according to their website. Most of what goes on at these times are coaches practicing with half their teams taking up one end of the ice, and grown adults (alone) playing pick up games taking up the other end of the ice. What you have left is a small sliver of ice in the middle that you have to keep a constant lookout for adults and larger kids playing at full speed weaving in and out toward the center. It is definitely not a safe environment for children. There are other times allocated for team practices. I'd wish they'd leave this time for actual father & son play. P.S. The coaches there are extremely irresponsible and rude. Doubt that could ever be fixed though. read more

I had a very bad experience with the wife of the owner of the place. One of my children slipped and the seal "that they rented to us" (without instructions of use) slipped because my daughter fell, and the seal slipped to her daughter WITHOUT HITTING HER. The mother indicated to a member of the STAFF to take away the seal from my daughter. I told her that we would gladly leave her place if she did a refund and they told me there are no refunds. The manager came and he started yelling at me. It's a shame that because of the arrogance of this woman they treat their clients like that. I do not recommend that you come here ever with your kids. This is the only ice arena in & around Pembroke Pines area. It's a good place for kids to learn figure skating, ice hockey & just fun ice skating. I've also had my children's birthday parties with about 50 people. Everything is pretty much taken care of. They provide for delicious hot chocolate & pizzas along with other goodies for the party. After Yelp-ing around, I knew I was going to avoid the Kendall rink, so I made the trek to Pembroke Pines. I grew up skating on the west coast, and had pretty high expectations for Pines Ice Arena. The building is shared with an MMA training studio, which now that I think about it, is probably a good idea. When we walked in, there is a single line to purchase your rink tickets (nothing identifiable, just a receipt). We arrived right at 3, so there was a mini-discount. Our total for 2 skaters and 2 rentals was $24. Once inside, I was bombarded with smells of ice, feet, and popcorn. Which is expected, but there wasn't much airflow so it was constant. On the right is a rink that was being used for hockey games when we were there. On the left is the dark, loud rink for public sessions. When we tried to get our skate rentals, there was only 1 person behind the counter trying to help 3 families and a couple. Returned skates sit on the counter, and she was not spraying them with any sanitizers before returning them to their shelves... When we finally got our skates on and our stuff stowed in lockers ($1 for one-time use), we were able to skate one lap before the buzzer went off for the zamboni to come on. Thank god, because the ice was incredibly choppy and "graceful" was out of the question. It was a quick process, and fun to watch the staff spin and dash across the ice behind the zamboni. But on the Saturday afternoon we went, there were 5 birthday parties for little kids. And I mean little. My SO was sturdy on his feet, but between the private lesson happening in the center and the group lesson on the party side, he was tripped a few times. And skated into. And pushed. It was almost funny considering the size difference, but please. Could the staff not have moved the group session to the edges of the rink where there is more room? We left after an hour or so, from both pain and annoyance. If there were adult-only sessions, even just for 15 minutes, that would've been amazing. If the shoes were kept in better condition and sanitized between uses, I would come back. The main upside is that staff was helpful despite the chaos, checking on the kids that fell and bring ice packs and first aid immediately. Other upsides: the bleachers were surprisingly neat for how many people were sharing the space. But this rink is not for me. And also note, snack bar only accepts cash. read more

My kids have been taking lessons here for several years and it is a great place to cool off and get them out of the house. We try to avoid Friday and Saturday nights as it becomes a teen hangout place but during the day it is just plain oldfashioned fun. The pro shop is too expensive but the rentals are cheap and the skating lessons are reasonable. We like that they change instructors each eight weeks so that you learn from different people. read more

This is a great place to play hockey. I know there are other ice rinks in the area that look nicer, and are actually in better shape, but this place is fine. I do not play for the NHL, my college days are long behind me, and this place will do just fine. The ice is hard, and fast, except that there are ocasional problems in the summer, but since we live in Miami and are trying to play hockey, this is to be excused. The nets are always there, they clean the ice between each game, the boards are solid, the glass is not cracked, the benches all have doors and the safety catches. The rink supplies pucks, and there are always 2 refs for every game. The locker rooms are cold, cramped and exactly like every locker room I have been in in every hockey rink of my life growing up back in the mid west. The adult hockey league is well organized, not too expensive and a nice comfortable enviornment. it is hockey, they let us hit, there are fights, and goal scorers score goals. There is never a sense that things are getting out of hand, or that this is about anything but fun. If you are looking to play hockey, I play here, and have had a ton of fun. You will as well. Just remember none of us are playing at Joe Louis Arena any time soon. read more
