She gives suggestion but you still gets to decide what you want. She is gentle when handling your hair. Highly recommended. By appointment only. Closed on Sundays. Plenty of parking. I have been getting haircuts from Ping for at least 10 years, from the time she had been working at Modern Beauty (where she was for 10-15 years) to opening her own place (Fan Salon) that was previously off Laguna Blvd. And now, I am glad she has opted to step away from the stress and responsibilities of running her own salon, and has instead opted to go back to simply renting a seat so that she can focus more on her clientele and just enjoying her life. She's definitely earned it. Ping gives excellent haircuts. And in particular, I think she gives a great haircut for guys. My haircut is a bit on the simpler and more conservative sports cut side, and Ping does a great job. I think with shorter hair, it's easy to notice even the slightest mistake (or maybe I'm just really picky). Yet Ping always does an excellent job. As I have mentioned to others before, my hair is cut evenly on the sides and on the back. My fade doesn't look ridiculous. The top is trimmed to the correct length. Ping pays attention to the shape of your head and hair and everything looks in the right place. I used to pay well over $20 for my haircuts. And Ping's haircuts have always been less than $20 for me. Ping's customer service is also great. Like I said earlier, I am a super picky client, especially when it comes to my hair. When I first met Ping, I was extremely anxious and micromanage-y and generally unpleasant. As I sweated over every little detail of my haircut, she was so totally cool about it. She took the time to cut my hair an additional quarter of an inch if that's what I wanted. She has always been and continues to be extremely accommodating. Ping is also extremely professional. When I call to schedule a haircut, Ping never gives you any false impressions about her availability. She won't book you into her schedule if she is actually busy. Ping will tell you exactly the days/times that she is free for an appointment. If Ping ever has to cancel an appointment, she will try to let you know as soon as possible. And now that I think about it, she has probably only had to reschedule once or twice in this entire time that I've been with her. And again, by taking up a spot at Sunny's Salon, she is looking to make herself more available to her clients. And if you have to cancel or reschedule, Ping is very understanding. Ultimately, Ping is has always been a friendly and wonderful person. She makes you feel comfortable. Ping is more fluent in Chinese than she is in English, but she can easily carry a conversation to talk to you and ask you about life and family. And speaking of family, even my mom goes to see her now. Indeed, Ping has also become like family. I can not say enough good things about Ping. She is absolutely phenomenal. I've been going to her (followed her through 3 locations) for over a decade. She is absolutely a professional with very good technical skills, experience and expertise. Her prices are so reasonable - and I've had my hair done at a few of the most "exclusive" salons - and they could not compare to her! While 3 to 4 times the cost! I have very difficult hair; super fine but a lot of it and very resistant to - well - anything - color or curl...it is board straight other than my weird cow licks... She is also a wonderfully kind person on top of all of her skill. She is wonderful with color & cuts/styles...updos (and my hair is so very hard to curl, to have the curls stay - she was able to work her magic for a graduation)... She also goes out of her way to ensure you are comfortable & accommodates my special needs due to medical issues. I really can't recommend her any higher - she is the best.
