Part of the food court in the Great Wall market off of Pleasant Hill Drive, this Chinese/Taiwanese place is a delightful treat for people looking for more Chinese/Taiwanese selections. It's also in the supermarket which means you can eat before you shop or shop before you eat - it doesn't matter because you just have to get into the car and drive to one place. We've so far only had the pork chop rice, which was done very well - not overly breaded, fried just right. The one thing with pork chop rice is the sides that come with the dish. Some places give just two side dishes to mix with the rice (see Bento Cafe, Norcross, GA review), and sometimes, the sides could be spicy (see Ming Wa - Los Angeles, CA review), and that's what makes the pork chop rice interesting. Ping's place gave an assortment (5 different items) plus a stewed egg, to compliment the pork chop. Very yummy. They also serve other items that I would go back and try, such as the soy bean milk. The staff is very friendly and can speak both English and Chinese. Even when you speak to them in Chinese, they'll respond in English. read more

Ping's Place is the 2nd store in Great Wall supermarket's food court. ~ Beef noodle soup - one of the best I've ever had in Atlanta. You can choose between 3 diff types of noodle. ~ salt n pepper chicken - similar to the Taiwanese chicken nuggets snack at bubble tea places; the pieces are not bite-size since it's an entree but delicious nonetheless ~ steamed pork bun - pretty decent ~ fried pork chop rice dish - similar to pork katsu; comes with egg & veggies Ping's place has so many items on their menu that I'd love to return and try. I am most definitely a fan. It's the second store from the front located inside Great Wall Supermarket. They only accept cash, so make sure you keep that in mind. Only place near Duluth that I know of with decent Taiwanese food. The beef noodle soup was 6.95 and was made pretty well with the right seasoning. As I always say to my kids ~ "Don't judge a book by its cover". Well, we didn't. After going to Bento Cafe and Kanpai Cafe, we weren't super impressed. After hearing good comments from some of our friends, we finally tried out Ping's Place, or as the World Journal puts it: "Pings Place Too". We also heard that the owner of this food stand used to own Ocean Garden in the Chinatown shopping complex in Doraville. Ping's Place is located in the Great Wall Supermarket on Pleasant Hill. They are the very first stall on your left once you enter the store. When you come on weekends, they are usually the only food stall that has a long line in front of it. So when you see a queue, then you know it's them. We were so satisfied with everything we ordered, or as my wife says, "scrumdillyumpcious". We ordered the pork chop with rice, the stinky tofu, beef noodle soup, and the famous Taiwanese basil chicken nuggets. The portions are more than enough and can easily be a second meal. read more

Having heard of a big Koreatown in Duluth Georgia, we decided that this was a place worth the drive. Of course the plan was to sample Korea food. How did we end up with Taiwanese? We arrived in Atlanta in the evening and had our beaks ready for a well talked about hot spot. Only to find out that said hot spot does not take dogs anymore. WTF! After doing all the research nowhere online mentioned that Atlanta was not dog friendly. In fact, the said hot spot touts that they are extremely dog friendly. I apologize for letting out an F Bomb to the tippy toed "manager" or whoever. The entire patio turned around, oh well. Someone should have thought to change their online bragging. Needless to say, we hoped that Koreatown was not the same. Would you know that the Korean restaurants that we called actually said that it is up to the owners and mangers, if they allowed dogs on their patios or outdoor? One place suggested that I leave my dog in the car and watch him from the patio. Are you for real? So we settled on takeout from Pings Place and a nice picnic at McDaniels Farm Park. Pings Place is located in the food court at Great Wall Supermarket in Duluth, Georgia. I dub this place the Great Wall of China. In Orlando we have big Asian supermarkets, not like this. This place is a least 3 times the size of the largest Asian supermarket in Orlando. It is mind boggling to think that there is so many items here. The meat depart is staffed by all Mexicans, playing Mexican music with a little swing to their step. We can all get along. The food court occupies one side of the supermarket. This is some serious authentic Asian food. Since Pings Place cook fresh Youtiao we decided a Taiwanese breakfast would warm the soul and get us out of the funk of not being able to eat with the dog. Shaobing Youtiao - This crunchy bread like delicacy will always have a soft spot on my palate. Done right, this is really a treat. It is just fried dough. But the preparation that creates this light airy substance is what makes it so special. Shaobing is used a wrapper. This is also tender and flaky. When this duo is soaked in fresh soy milk, the result is simple umami. Shaobing stuffed with beef - Oh my heavens of beef! The meat was well seasoned with flavors of five spice and star anise coming through. A truly delightful little bite. I could easily have a few of these at one sitting. Salty Soy Milk - an acquired taste. Saltiness brings out another dimension in the versatile soy. Congee and Purple Rice Ball - The rice ball is filled with dried minced pork and crushed youtiao. Congee is a very watery rice porridge. Eaten by themselves or together, these are fantastic. How many places do you know that pack your take out, one container in a plastic bag with this card board bottom? I don't know any, except this place. That is a very thoughtful gesture. Since we couldn't quite sit on any restaurant's patio we found McDaniels Farm Park to be a great picnic spot. The Park was an actual working farm that now lends itself for everyone to enjoy. Horrible service. I asked for 6 pieces of soup dumplings, went to the place in 10 mins after I placed the order. The girl that picked up the phone thought I got 6 orders which is alright, mistake happens. But she got mad and tried to make me pay for 6 orders of dumplings. She even refused to cancel the orders. an authentic taiwanese shop in the middle of georgia? i know, i was skeptical, but ended up pleasantly surprised. the stinky tofu was not quite stinky enough, but passable. the beef noodle soup (niou rou mien) was authentic, with QQ knife cut noodles. the broth was savory and deep in flavor, and the beef was reasonably tender. definitely not as good as what we have in california, but a pleasant surprise in the middle of nowhere. if i'm ever stuck in georgia again, will try to make it out here. read more

The owners are super nice and will help you order whatever you want. For my first visit, I ordered the beef noodle soup to go. The beef is tender which I was super pleased by. The noodles are really good as well and the broth was on par. I will probably get it slightly spicy next time but it was well worth the visit. All that for $6.50 (cash only). On a weekend during the meal hours, it will be SUPER PACKED and probably difficult to find a seat, but outside of that, it's well worth a visit. read more

Their food is not 100% Authentic Taiwanese at all. It might be 50% Taiwanese and other 50% Chinese. Just to say that, so people don't think Taiwanese food doesn't taste good. Stinky tofu didn't taste like what we have in Taiwan at all. Good stinky tofu is accompanied by cabbages, the cabbages they offer is bad. Two good dishes there are porkchop over the rice combo and beef noodle soup. Porkchop tastes very good and juicy, it also comes with two different type of vegetable . The porkchop combo is good enough to feed two people :) Beef noodle soup, try to get it on weekend, they offers hand made noodle that is shave by knife. Broth itself is very tasty, tastes like some homemade delicious soup. Beef is also very tender, it is not hard to eat it at all, after it almost melts in the mouth after 30 seconds. Overall the place offers very affordable dishes, these dishes taste pretty good, not great. Came here right after we left Haru Ichiban because we didn't eat much there and needed to buy grocery for the week but ended up eating again. Breakdown of the star: Price = +1 Food = +2 (Pork chop with rice , Beef noodle soup, Pork Feet Noodle, and Salt and pepper chicken was very good) Being Satisfied with taste = +1 Location = -1/2 (Food court of great wall) Service and Cleanness = -1/2 (There is no service and because of this we had no way of know that our salt and pepper chicken was ready since we was to busy eating our other dishes. was pretty skeptical about trying this place out at first. first of all, it's located in a run-down looking, chinese super market. secondly, it looks terrible and cheap. home printed pictures of the food are taped to the wall above the counter and only chinese words and symbols are present. therefore, if you don't read (or speak) a lick of chinese then good luck! and third, no prices listed. luckily, for me.. I was rung up by the owner.. or possibly the owner's wife. she spoke enough English to understand my inquiries and help me read the menu. one thing I wanna mention is, there are absolutely no prices on the pictures. you'll have to request for the paper menu or sometimes it's left out by the register. I did a gamble and just picked beef noodle soup. it was $6. this food court restaurant is CASH ONLY and best of all, NO TAX! maybe tax is included in the price, but she just told me one price with no calculations. and it was the exact price I saw in the print out menu. nothing extra. awesome!!! food was a little above decent (but then again, I only tried one dish). it wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. I've been a fan of Ping's since I discovered this place in the Chinatown food court in Doraville during my college days. Then it disappeared for a while, and then it moved to Duluth! HOW PERFECT! Still cash only though! There are so many great things about this place, but let's start with this...CHEAP PRICES, GREAT PORTIONS. Yeah? Yeah? Things I've tried and recommend: Fried pork chop rice plate/noodles Pogo chicken rice plate/noodles Beef and/or Tendon noodle soup Salt and Pepper Chicken nuggets (with and w/o rice plate) Rice rolls (salty) They are super nice here. Almost anything I ask for them to do, they will do it. Like for instance, traditionally, the pork chop noodle soup comes with the clear broth, but I prefer the beef broth that comes with the beef noodle soup. If I ask for the beef broth, they always happily switch it out for me. Or when I order the rice plates, I don't like my fried meat over the rice and the house special sauce (because the plate is literally overflowing), so I ask them to separate the meat from the plate. That is never a problem for them. And the all time favorite with my friends and I is their salt and pepper chicken. The fried basil is a super nice touch, that a lot of places don't add to their chicken nuggets anymore. And the portion is always super compare to other places. You can either get it a la carte or on a rice plate! Another fav. is the rice roll (with either purple or white sticky rice), I prefer the salty version. And they make it to order, so it's always soft and chewy. It's hard to explain what's inside...just try it. In my opinion, Ping's is the best Taiwanese joint in Atlanta. Drove 40 minutes to get to this place. These guys are very generous with their servings. I wasn't able to finish my Salt Pepper Chicken Bento but it was outstanding. Beef noodle soup is pretty good too. I went on a weekend so they served the knife cut noodles. If anyone is craving Taiwanese, I would say that this is a good place. As a patron of Ocean Garden before it changed owners couple of times, I was pleasantly surprised to find Ping's Place. Foods are as good as I remember. Unlike some restaurants that change chefs all the time, these owner/chef restaurants offer consistent quality. Ping's is part of the food court inside GreatWall Supermarket. I like to pick up something from here everytime I shop for groceries. You can get a HUGE and delicious bento for under $10. Entire family loves going to this place, they have yet to ever say anything beyond "When do we go" and "I want". Last couple of times just go to get 6-7 extra for them because the food is that good and the price that cheap, far cheaper than heating a Viking 5 burner stove!!! If it can even satisfy 14 Taiwanese, Japanese and Koreans family members in to COMPLETE silence, I know of no higher praise than that! I ordered the steamed spinach dumplings and we all enjoyed it. It was hot and fresh and the filling was a good amount. The only thing is that the filling was a little salty for my taste, so the sauce on the side was not needed. Service is good. The best!! A bit weird having to eat inside a supermarket, but who cares when the food is SO SO SO good! We live a bit off from GW, so in actuality, I drive all the way there shop at GW just so I can eat at Ping's. GW better not lose this tenant. Everything is good, no excessive MSG (if any) like a lot of other CHinese places, and the food is consistently good everyday all the time. I think they are closed Mondays now tho :'(.
