Speaking of Portuguese rolls, they are well made and baked fresh daily. You'll never get an old roll from this place. As a matter of fact, all of their breads are made fresh. There Natas are very over rated and simply put, average at best. Definitely had better. But if your craving a nata, I guess theirs will do. Their staff are a bit rude though. Not the young girls, they're sweet normally. I'm talking bout the older women that own the place. Gotta get that stick outta their asses. Lastly, I'd hate myself for not mentioning this, but Pinhos has perhaps the most underrated donuts you'll ever have. I've heard of this place numerous times but never had the opportunity to go visit....until today....as I took a 15-20 minute detour to get there lol. A former colleague used to ring in the pecan rings and they were definitely delicious. I walked out with 2. I came here mostly for the custard cups, something I haven't had in years. I left with 2 dozen - one to give away to my family. I also walked out with a apple crumb horseshoe. When I got there, there was no line. 2 mins later, a line formed behind me. The folks behind the counters were fast and courteous and moved the line along. I can only imagine the line during the holidays! The custard cup I ate was really delicious. And one was just enough to satiate my sweet tooth. I grew up near another place that has custard cups and they were fine BUT I tend to favor Pinho's more because it has more of that carmelization which is just enough. Also, the dough stays absolutely flakey and light! I heard Sunday's can be a little crowded so the recommendation I got was to go early if on Sundays and be prepared for chaos on a holiday week visit. Dopest bakery I have been to. They have a very wide selection, from(my favorite) freshly baked bread, to cookies, to flan...almost forgot they have amazing coffee cake in family size. It gets really busy during the rush hour times but the line moves pretty quick as they have sufficient staff. There is also a deli area where you can get sandwiches made to order as well as some already prepared on the go meals. Try the semolina and pumpernickel breads then go crazy. read more

When I moved to New Jersey about five years ago, I was very unfamiliar with suburban life. I was used to being able to go to a corner deli and get a good sandwich with some type of mayo packed salad. I missed having that, until I happened upon Pinho. Pinho's is a bakery and a deli/restaurant at the same time. When you walk in, the left side has a seating area and a deli complete with all types of rolls and breads. They serve Boar's Head deli meats (thank goodness) and they have both pre-made salads (such as Macaroni salad) and ones they make in house. The right side is the bakery, which is just a visual assault on your senses. Everything from giant cookies to cannolis to cupcakes that look like Cookie Monster are there to try. Over the years I have had dozens of their baked goods and a bunch of sandwiches, so in general I'll say that their sandwiches are always fresh and tasty and their baked goods are absolutely delicious. Among my personal favorites are their biscottis (mmmm...pistachio biscotti) and an apple wrapped in a pie crust. It's like an apple pie taken to the max. They also have incredible cheesecake! I've always found the service courteous and fast, which is critical on days like Saturday when the lines can get pretty insane. Pinho's is a regular stop for me around town, so I know I'll be back. I came to Pinho's yesterday with my young grandson for lunch. I ordered the fried lemon tilapia with a side of rice and vegetables. It was delicious. My grandson had a cannoli (picky 2 year old eater) which he devoured. The coffee was also very good. I purchased some natas--custard cups--two kinds of cannoli, regular and chocolate dipped and an Elmo cookie haha. Pinho's custard cups are always perfection. The cannoli was the best. I had never had chocolate dipped cannoli before. I've been missing out! Even the following day, the regular cannoli was still just as cripsy and the filling just as creamy as the previous day. I was very pleased with my food and the bakery items. The prices are reasonable too, even with all of the large price increases all around us. Thank you Pinho's! read more

I just went with my sister to pick up a cake and they don't even have proper materials to transport your cake . They give you a box that doesn't even close and your cake is expose to the air . That's unsanitary! The girl took the cake out of the previous box after we complained with no gloves ! And then placed the cake on a chair that people sit in ! That's disgusting !! Then they placed the cake in this random box that is falling apart and air can clearly get through the gaps . And saying well aren't you going to use the cake right now ? This bakery has been around forever and they operate grossly and unprofessionally . i actually found this place by accident. i was looking for a bakery that had something to satisfy my sweet tooth after rummaging around a local asian market. after finding a place to park nearby (as with just about everything new jersey.. it seems parking lots are unheard of), i read the reviews on this place and decided i had nothing to lose. OMG stepping in you could SMELL the calories.. there is/was (due to covid) a deli/sandwich shop immediately to your left that appeared to be a go to favorite with the locals as there was a briskly moving line of people at the register. the bakery itself is to your right and it helps to have an idea already of what you want as the sales girls didnt seem to have the patience for someone like me that was over whelmed with choices. i decided to keep it short and just had the sales girl i was with pick what her go to items were.. not disappointed at all. after paying.. i had to peruse all the other diet killing items on display and i must say.. if i HAD to get a cake for any occasion, this would be my go to place. i can only imagine pre covid days this is someplace you would definitely want to stop in for a breakfast fare/coffee out on the patio.. but for now, in the new normal.. it is someplace you could go for tried and true goodness. read more

My sister brought me here as early as she could so I can check out the many pastry options they had to offer. I don't know why she had me to drive, because the parking confused the crap out of me. I was amazed by the wall full of different rolls. I haven't been to a bakery in my current town that also baked bread. Most bakeries I've been to just make desserts. It took me about 10 minutes to glance over everything and make my selections. I picked up a couple of Portuguese rolls, chocolate brownie cupcake, key lime tarts, character cupcakes, and a cheesecake bar. Even after paying for, I found about 8 more items I wished to try, maybe later so I can update this review, lol. I love how the roll wasn't doughy, taste great with the whipped butter they carry. My key lime tart was amazing! I love tart fruits and this did it for me. I saw they had a deli that sold Boar's Head products. I'll check that out later. Heading out, I saw a small coffee bar right next to the doors. Don't know how I missed it upon entering. Perhaps the overwhelming selection of baked goods distracted me from everything else. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which is cool. We sat outside for a little bit and enjoyed our treats. What I love about this place is the prices. The cupcakes go for about the same, but whole cakes are so much more expensive in the south. $15 for a 10" cake goes for about $60, and that just a basic yellow cake with butter cream icing. read more

The pasteis de natas are literally to die for. These little Portugese custard cups when hot and fresh melt in your mouth and it's the best thing in the world. Sometimes I think I can just live off them. The bakery is famous for this and for good reason. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The other deserts (cream puffs, cannoli a, etc) are fantastic as well but the custard cups are the star of the show. Also came here for lunch, the ingredients are fresh and since it's also a deli, many sandwiches are available. Nothing to rave about. The customer service is where they need to work on. My moms LOVES this place!! I came here for my first time and was impressed by the selection of sweets they had here. The cashier was a young man whom was very helpful and patient with us while we decided what treats we were gonna choose that would probably piss off our dentist later on life lol! We came here during the week day so we didn't have to wait long to choose what we wanted. There was a selection of cheesecakes, cookies, pastries, croissants, and cakes. Everything in here looked good and the service was excellent! There are small tables in here also if you choose to sit and plenty of street parking making it convenient to run in and out to pick up something you may like.
