0 stars... I booked for gel x (first time doing gel x). I was told when I got there I had to $40 to have my dip soaked off. Prior to starting the services I asked will I be charged to take the gel off my toes and Aniya told me no because I was getting a gel pedicure. When I was finished I was charged $10 to remove the gel off my toe. The gel x on my nails was caked up with way too much product. When I complained Aniya said if you don't like it you can talk to my boss and stopped answering all my questions. Her boss Dana tried explaining but then had the salon manager come fully explain it. The salon manager first said that's how all gel x is. Then when I showed pictures of others that's gel x and doesn't look like that she said it was because Aniya isn't experienced and used too much product but there's nothing they can do for me. My natural nails were showing on the sides of every nail and it looked like my 3 year old applied pressed on nails on my hands. I also wasn't able to get my nails painted the way I wanted because Aniya had another customer and my soak off took too long. I have pictures to show proof of how they looked. read more

Not worth it. I went and it took a while to start my nails to begin with. I know it was my first time but it wasn't too welcoming and the other person waiting was also annoyed and told me she was waiting for 30 minute from her appointment start. There wasn't any talking with the nail tech. She had an attitude when I didn't like the design she did and she had to clear it. When it got to my pedicure, the same thing and the person got a little rough with the design on my toes- very simple thin french... the big problem with the french on my toes was that she rounded my toe nails instead of making them square and it just didn't look good. My appointment was on a Thursday evening and by Saturday morning, my nails were lifting- even though it was slight, they were still lifting within 2 days and they shouldn't have been at all, and my nails typically last a month with GelX. I contacted the shop and I went in for my nails to be redone because they don't offer refunds, from that, my nails lifted again and I went in person for the owner to see the nails in person. The energy wasn't friendly and I felt like a bother due to not being greeted while coming back... The owner cleaned up the nails but I wasn't able to stay due to having an appointment and I made an appointment to go back but ultimately decided it wasn't worth going back AGAIN for a 3rd time. I definitely would have preferred the nails be removed and having a refund. people who know nails know that you can't just take gelx or acrylic or off and on without causing damage and I didn't want any more damage to my nail beds. When taking them off the first time, my nail bed on my thumb was burned because one part of the gelx wouldn't come off the person had to continue to drill in the same spot... It felt like a clique-y place the first time I went in but I needed my nails done and paid my deposit. I spent $165 with a $10 tip and waisted my money... update to 3 weeks later, of course my nails didn't last and all are lifting from the bottom. One nail has lifted so bad that I jammed it and ended up breaking my natural nail underneath and it was a pain to take off but I did it at home and am allowing it to heal. read more

The day of my appointment she was running 2 hours behind schedule. I ended up rescheduling to the next day... I asked for a design from the Instagram page, I assumed she could do the design since she told me she specializes in designs. Additionally, she agreed she could do it. My nails were uneven in length and not nearly as expected. I had to go back to get the design fixed. Still not pleased with the work. Two days later, my foundation stained my nails. I scheduled an appt with Pink & Pretty May 4th for May 28th at 7AM- Graduation Day. May 27th at 11:08PM, I receive the following text message: Hello Doll! We see you have booked an early appointment. It is an $100 flat rate for early and later appointments. Do you wish to keep or cancel this appointment? -Pink&Pretty There was no indication of this in my booking, confirmation emails, nor reminder emails. When I confronted this, the response was it's on Instagram and the website. I am nearly 100% sure that was NOT the case May 4th and yet still, no indication in any email. I can't believe Instagram was even named as an legitimate place to hold me accountable to their polices. And the fact the text message ended with "Do you wish to keep or cancel this appointment?" Was already an indicator to me that they knew I had no clue. To inform a consumer the night before an appt- less than 8 hours prior- of a major change in cost of services is purely unacceptable, unprofessional, inconsiderate, and downright rude. I informed them this was my graduation day, and there was no regard. No apologies for the inconvenience and lapse in communication. I simply received an email stating the appointment was canceled. Pink & Pretty, shame on you. Shame on your unprofessionalism and shame on you for the immense inconvenience you have caused someone on the day of one of their greatest achievements in life. read more

3/6/2020: Got here at 2:30pm with only two people ahead of me and four (4) nail techs working (all busy). Lily was my tech. Asked her for oval nails but ended up with almond nails (but whatever... nbd). She started doing my acrylics at 3:15pm and ditched me to do a pedicure for someone who walked in at 3pm. At 4:20pm I was still sitting there with "prepped" nails (ie. buffed w/ glues tips and unshaped) and asked to move out of my seat to give the lady who got a pedicure a gel manicure too. Lily was sweet and apologized then redirected me to her "boss", Dana. FYI... Dana is supposed to be the best nail tech there. Though she's like a less skillful Karen Pham (look her up... she's actually good) Dana completed my nails with air bubbles in them, poorly filed and poorly done ombré. I was charged $70 (and I tipped because I'm not that kind of person) for something mediocre that I could've had done elsewhere. I'll just go back to Couture nails in Harvard Square instead because they only charge about $60 for the same service and do a better overall job. Even though I have my own quips about that place too. I'd only come back if I wanted to waste 3+ hours of my time at a nail salon only to walk out with an overpriced/mediocre/rushed product. Do what you will with your time but this unfortunately doesn't work for me. Unless you're one of their favorites (yes, I noticed favoritism) you may not get what you're expecting. It's too bad because it's a black owned business near my home, which I would've loved to support on an ongoing basis. Only giving them 2 stars because there is potential for this business to be great with improvements. If I ever came back and got better service I might consider changing this review- not likely. read more

I have spent the past 10 years jumping from on nail salon to another, never truly finding what I want. When I found Pink & Pretty and looked at their instagram I immediately reached out to schedule an appointment. I started getting my nails done with Arely and was happily surprised at how much time she took in terms of application and shaping my acrylic set. And then when it came to her designs I knew I had found someone who was a true artist! We did some eyeballs and she even encapsulated glitter INTO the acrylic... like what?!?! And then I was also happily surprised that they lasted almost 4 weeks before I needed a fill. When Arely was out on maternity leave I went to Dana (who also is the salon owner) and she also went above my expectations with the nail art she did. I haven't had the pleasure of sitting down to get my nails done by Mari but i've seen the work she's done and it is so detailed and beautiful. Owner Dana pulled a price swap and my nails look horrible! My nail bed is showing as though my acrylic was on for a week and it's ONLY BEEN TWO DAYS SINCE SERVICE! The owner tacked an extra $15 on bill and couldn't justify it when I had already booked the service for extra design work. She claimed my booking said "subject to change." It does NOT. That's a lie and if I show you a photo prior to starting a pre-booked and pre-paid service, you have to ability to ask if I'm okay with a price adjustment. Her customer service is horrible. My nails look horrible. She's a greedy business owner who doesn't care about clients. This is the 3rd time I've gone here. Each time there's been a minor issue but this was too big to ignore. Very excited to support a black owned female business in Boston. I've been searching for a quality nail salon for months but I wanted to keep my money in my community as much as I possibly can. I came across this salon and decided to give it a shot even though I had to wait 1.5 weeks for an appointment from when I originally booked. Today I actually had a very poor experience!! I've been so overly disappointed that it's taken me the day to get over it and write this review. I had a gel manicure and platinum pedicure appointment with Kendra who was entirely way too inexperienced. From the beginning to the end it was obvious! From not knowing how to properly use the thermometer to check my temperature to not providing even a color close to what I asked for to cutting my cuticles so badly that my fingers were sore and sensitive to the excessive acetone she used to clean my hands to even me washing my dishes. I had to also tell her majority of the time to turn the gel lamp on each time she placed my hand under. Not sure why she kept forgetting! My nails were mediocre at best and I wanted to cancel my pedicure but I decided to stay and not make a scene. My platinum pedicure wasn't worth the $60 at all!!! Not only did she cut me badly that I cringed and sank in my chair but I had to actually tell her not to bother cut my cuticles on my left foot. I guess all the flinching and complaining wasn't obvious enough and I was mortified for her. I felt awful that she continued thinking this was how these services should go. The co-owner had to even instruct her midway to add more mask to my entire lower leg and NOT just my foot. She continued to use acetone on my nails as if my cuticles weren't sore. I wanted my sandals on and she couldn't get them on since she had already painted my toes and didn't put my shoes on before that so she told me it's best to wear the disposables for my drying. She still smudged my pinky toe and once again uses acetone to remove it completely. I then had to sit longer all while I was ready to go home! My toes were still smudged and the color on both my hands and feet are uneven. My cuticles even have nail polish in them and my nail shape and smoothness is off. There were just so many wrongs in her technique that I couldn't understand why she wasn't trained properly before being able to provide these services. I've never had anyone use a cuticle cutter the way she did and pull and tug on my cuticles! It was rough and quite frankly unsanitary and hazardous to have open cuts and bleeding happening during this pandemic. I did not tip for perfectly good reason and I don't see myself returning. The worst experience ever! So I discovered this place on yelp & it was right up my alley way being a black owned business & a two min walk from my house, I walked there to check it out, the receptionist/owner came running as I opened the door basically telling me I have to stay outside and talk to her, No biggie I guess it's probably for safety reasons but then she handed me a card & inform me that I have to book online .. In my head am like (am right here so why can't I do it) Came to find out that in order to make an appointment a deposit is required.. I wasn't in a rush to do em anyways so I waited & as soon as they posted that walk ins will resume I called still she told me I had to call the morning of which was the Saturday that I did.......... She said I was all set... So I stroll up there within an hour or so the lady once again saying it's by appointment, I informed her that I had made 1 she ask my name & I told her she had a whole different name but the phone number was there.... She goes oh you are next but we have to call you cause there is no waiting area during this time the wait will be like 25 to 30 mins it was well over an hour before they called... .... Am a make a long story short... She soaked my nails off & did a medium length which turned out nice & light it felt like nothing was on my fingers but I liked it despite the raw edges that I had to buff so I don't cut my skin up.. The total was 111 yep one hundred & eleven dollars I paid 121 with tip & went about my business... Three days later I lost a nail opening the car door.. It wasn't even one of the times where I hit the finger against anything it just snapped I hit up the nail tech & explained she replied the next morning asking when I'll be free I said am free today but if you're booked I will wait until the following week just tell me what works for you anytime before 2pm is good for me she said oh not today honey, I said OK tell me when, she said I will...... She stay posting all types of promo & ish so am like wth I've been walking around with 8 tips as another snapped while I was putting my gym attire on... I posted an emoji on 1 of her post & she hit me up like oh sorry about that can you come today.... I said sure she said 6pm totally ignoring the time spam I gave her... I showed up she fill em even took 1 off as it was on its way too... The replacement was horrible I ask her why they lookin half done she said its so they match up to the previous ones.. I was annoyed & over it so I tell her it's whatever she literally flung these on without a care then told me as I was leaving that I have to pay for the 2 broken nails giving it was only $12.. I've been seeing Arely for my nails and honestly nobody comes close to her execution. She always sees my vision and will add personal touches that make my nails look way better than imagined. Her precision is unmatched and my nails always last at least 4 weeks -- i've never come close to breaking or chipping my nails and my natural nails are still so healthy. I could keep going about how amazing she is and would definitely recommend the salon!! read more

I've always hopped salons because I could never find someone who understood the vision of my nail ideas but that search has ended with Arely. I wanted a western/cowboy themed set that was still subtle enough for my job and she ATE DOWN! She is so detail oriented and even though it was my first time there, she made me feel like I'd known her forever. The conversation throughout the salon was reminiscent of my cousins and aunts' salons growing up. I felt so welcomed by the sense of community amongst staff and regular clients. 100/10. read more

I was really looking forward to patronizing this establishment since it is a black owned business but I came away from this experience extremely disappointed. Although I had an appointment for 12pm, the nail tech (Kendra) had another client and told me the wait would be 15min. Thirty minutes later, she was not even close to being done. In the time that I waited, no one apologized or checked on me. I was flabbergasted by the lack of customer service and lack of professionalism. I had another appointment I would've missed had I waited longer so I eventually left. Kendra apologized but seemed unfazed. I've been coming here for a few appointments and I do like the service I've been getting. I've been working with Jaz and she's really sweet. She takes her time and I always feel comfortable while I'm there and satisfied with her work once I leave. I did have some lifting with my nails after about a week but I'll chalk it up to it being an outlier experience. I love how they keep the door locked and don't allow ppl on or just walk ins.. given the pandemic it makes me feel safer with being out and about. They take temps and spray with alcohol then have you wash your hands upon entrance so that's definitely a plus... the owner and her daughter Dana are definitely kind spirits as well... Dana's nail work is AMAZING... and mom is always cleaning up/sanitizing. I'm so happy that i found this BEAUTIFUL Black Owned GEM! I will definitely be back! read more

i was soo excited to see an all black nail salon and in the end that excitement turned out to be dissapointment. My appointment was with someone that just started doing nails, besides being late my nails turned out really horrible! she never asked me from begining to end if i liked my nails? cuz is she did i would of stopped her several times. She also never told me to wash my hands instead brushing off the residue with a brush! i kept quiet because i am not a confrontational person. i wanted to see if the experience would get better and it didnt. my nails are already cracking and one peeled off I have gel so i already know whats underneath is now damaged. they are not even painted to the edges. I should of read the reviews before i booked an appointment. I wont be going back because i'm sure it doesnt get any better than her. Maybe the owner should have someone more experienced monitoring the ones that are not that experienced before leaving them alone on a client. ps i gave a one star for the tootsie rolls in the bowl. read more

I just don't understand why ppl open a Business if they hate their jobs....this morning l woke up and l was super happy to find out that l had nail salon close to my house. I called them to get information how their business works and if l need to make a appointment so that l and be a regular customer. This lady that l wished l could have take her name told me just stop by to the salon and they will take care of me . I went down to the salon exited thinking that l finally find a place that l could go and feel welcomed. I tried open the door and the door was closed. It was a lady waiting outside on line and explain to me that l had to wait till my turn comes . I told her but this is not what they told me.The owner or the lady that works there comes outside told me that she is fully booked. I got disappointed already because l did do my part as new becoming client to call and get the information..... the lady who was in line heard me when l was trying to explain what happened and she told the owner lf it's okay l want to give her my spot since she is new but the owner still didn't want to help me out and understand that it wasn't my mistake for Providing me with the wrong information.l felt so disrespected and honesty to tell you the truth place seemed to be very racist #Awfulexperience Please do respect and provide new costumes with correct information. I booked a "basic gel-x full set" service online on August 5th and paid the $25 deposit. I booked my appointment for Saturday, August 22 (well in advance.) On Friday morning, the day before my appointment, the owner texted me stating the technician I scheduled with was no longer working there and that my appointment needed to be canceled or rescheduled. If I wanted to cancel, she advised me to text her a screenshot of my confirmation e-mail and my choice of mobile payment for my deposit refund (cash app/venmo.) I replied stating I will cancel for now and reschedule at another time. I sent her the screenshot of my confirmation e-mail as requested and said I prefer venmo for my refund. The owner did not reply to my message until two days later stating that I need to become a member on their website in order to cancel my appointment and that I should receive my refund within 5-10 business days. At this point, I was frustrated. Why did I need to become a member to cancel a past appointment? Especially when it was not my fault. I replied to her message stating that I did not create an account at the time of making my appointment therefore I am not a member. In her initial text, she did not inform me that I had to go online to cancel my appointment. She just told me to send a screenshot and that I will receive my refund. I asked her nicely to please venmo me my refund. She said "we will send it to your venmo shortly." Two days went by and I still did not receive my refund. I called the salon and spoke with a receptionist, explained my situation and she sent me my refund right away while we were on the phone. I do not understand why the owner could not have done that in the first place. I will not be rescheduling my appointment. Terrible management. read more
