The salon is clean and the staff are friendly and meticulous. I've only been there in the day during the week and I've had appointments. It seems like they do not have a walk in culture, which means it's less crowded. In terms of services, they actually soak off the gel/no chip polish with acetone, rather than grinding it off! This is the major reason why I like them because practically every other nail salon grinds it off and then my nails get too thin. They also take their time and make sure that the gel is properly cured, so I've never had a problem with the gel peeling off too early. They don't have the widest selection of colors, but they do such a nice job it doesn't even matter to me. The only thing that I wish was different is that I wish they did NOT have the TVs on with the sound on, but I didn't ask for them to turn it off, so that's on me. Also earbuds exist for a reason. Came once, was an ok experience. Gave them another chance for a no chip mani and pedi. And it was a horrible experience all around!!! The technician cut my toes so short that one started bleeding in addition to just looking hideous. She didn't use a grater, I asked her to please go back and use it. I understand times are tough and tipping is a must! So they have a sheet posted at the front desk with the technicians Venmo info for people like me who never carry any cash. I don't have Venmo so i use zelle and it always works. Yesterday i was annoyed because the woman at the front desk almost fell over trying to look at my phone. Five minutes later she calls me. I came back to Pinky and this time added a basic mani. Total for mani pedi was $40!! Sara was amazing. I will only go back to her. She takes her time and gives the best neck massages. And I hate massages. She had attention to detail and super sweet. Can't wait to go back. The pedi was great too. My toe polish will usually last months but I will force myself to go sooner. I had to bring my tiny tot this time. He's almost four and everyone was kind and smiled at him. He got to sit in a tiny chair for my pedi and a regular chair for my mani. I appreciate the speed on a Friday night for my sake and theirs (can help more customers) so it definitely was not a negative. My tech was pleasant, very precise and gentle. YES! 2 neck/shoulder rubs. NICE! My tech did a great job, the color was put on thin in 2 coats...and it's shiny, blue and now I can lead my life a happy, confident woman. They aren't rude but they aren't going to go out of their way to make you feel special either. At least not for unfamiliar faces. Their regular customers receive much better greetings. Place needs some updating. It's clean but the decor is dated. Needs a refresh. Now on to the service... My nail tech was ok and worked at a steady pace. However, she hurt my toes a bit with the clipping of my cuticles. Everything about this visit was just meh. Not in love but don't hate it. They lost 2 stars for being lackluster and for my nail tech ASKING for a tip at the end. A HUGE turn off. I handed her my card to pay and she immediately said "do you have cash for tip?" I've been coming to Pinky Nail for just over a year now. It's a block away from my house and out of sheer convenience I've put up with the mediocre service but I've hit my final straw. Few things to address here: 1- their customer service is terrible. The manager is a lady who runs around the salon barking orders at the all technicians. They roll their eyes at her and give her bad looks, it's very comfortable. You can tell there is tension within management. Not to mention the turnover rate is through the roof. I once had the manager ask if I had a bad experience because I did not tip 20%... super awkward... Also, they have these punch cards, well you'd think seeing someone's punch card and realizing they have multiple boxes filled out may be IDK A LOYAL CUSTOMER, use some logic and atleast treat those ppl right. 2- there are about 3 technicians that are genuinely nice women, the others are extremely rude. They've started this thing now where they hire women to do your pedicure but they can't paint your nails, so they do all the grunt work and then you sit there for 20 mins until a technician is done with her client to come and paint your nails. Very inefficient... 3- and for my final point, I had a 5:45 appt and didn't leave the salon until closing (8pm). It should never take 2 hours for a pedicure and manicure, there has to be a more effective system than that. In addition, I left with 4/10 of my cuticles bleeding. I know, sounds a little petty, but when you have someone dousing your nails in alcohol, acetone and cuticle glue it gets pretty painful after a while. What was that saying? Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me? That's pretty much how I feel about Pinky Nails on Grand. I gave it two shots and twice I was... well let's say disappointed is an understatement. The first time I went my no chip manicure my super sloppy. After bringing this to the attention of the technician she had another technician "fix" my nails. I'm pretty sure the entire set of nails was peeling and chipping within about 48 hours. It was pretty cheap and I am sometimes rough with my hands so I didn't think too much of it. Although I certainly was not thrilled. Also I got charged if you dollars more than was advertised as a special in the window A second time I got my nails done there I was charged more than what the sign in the window advertised. Upon bring it to the manager's attention they argued with me that I was wrong. I was in a hurry and I didn't feel like causing a scene in the middle of a busy nail salon so I paid and left. Was a repeat customer until today. My absolute biggest pet peeve with nail salons in Chicago happened here so now I'm done. I called this morning and scheduled an appointment for 2:30pm based on THEIR availability. I said, when is your next available appointment and she said "2:30pm". Ok booked. Arrive at 2:18pm with 3 employees working and two ladies sitting in pedi chairs soaking their feet yet to be seen. At this point I know I'm not going to be seen on time. At 2:40pm the husband of one of the employees preps a pedi chair for me and calls me over. Now I know I'm going to soaking my feet for most likely 30 minutes before actually being seen by a technician so I say, what time am I actually getting a pedicure because I have to be somewhere at 4pm and one tech is like uhhhhhh and then the other is like uhhhhhhhhh. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Customer service 101 people!! On time appointments are the key to success!! Just like the "Seinfeld" episode---- you know how to take the appointment, you just don't know how to keep the appointment. I have been here many times, most always a great experience (NOT today) as they include an/about 5 minute foot/leg massage with pedicure and a great arm/hand/neck massage with manicure. They also give you a quick neck massage when they seat you at the drying table. Not today! Marla did my mani-pedi. A rushed, sloppy polish, pedi with almost no callus removal, and maybe a 30 second (if that) pedi massage. The mani even worse with uneven filing and sloppy polish and a 30 second hand arm/massage and no neck massage. She couldn't wait to be done. I found out they were short staffed one tech. If so, instead of giving me a bad experience they should have not taken me as a walk in. As I paid the bill and explained to the lady in charge, who was much friendlier than Marla, why I was only tipping $3 (usually tip $8-$10.) I said the service was sloppy, rushed and not good. This nail salon is now officially terrible. I used to go here consistently for the past 3 years, but over this past year: service started slacking, my favorite nail technician-Sarah, left the salon, their attitudes started getting more and more rude, and finally...yesterday I walked in at 7PM for my pedicure appointment and the woman at the counter said that they are closing and refused to take me. So why did you take my appointment in the first place? And why "claim" to be open till 8PM? Service has become increasingly awful. Pedicures used to last 3 weeks, now I'm lucky if they last 3 days. The nail techs are not very gentle, to the point of me saying, "Please stop hurting me," at least 3 times during the appointment. You can barely breathe in there because the fumes are so overwhelming. No more neck massages after the appointment. Piles of garbage and dust mites in the corners & on the seats. The technicians are rude, service is awful, prices are higher. As previously stated - the place has now officially gone to shit.
