I reserved online for four kayaks on a summer Saturday. I had some experience kayaking, but my guests did not. Pinky's made it so easy to reserve, communicate when we had to make a schedule change, and help my guests feel at ease on the water! They handle the kayak transportation, life jackets, quick paddling instructions, and even provided dry bags and bottle of water! The two people who run this local business are friendly common sense people, who will work with you to make the trip a good one. The price is well worth the trip! I'll just start by saying Pinky's is awesome. That's my review in a nutshell. Now for the longer version: We rented kayaks less than 24 hours in advance and they were so accommodating. Great communication too. We showed up at Bay Area Park at our designated time (we had decided on 2pm). The boats were waiting and ready on the dock along with paddles and life jackets. We were offered a dry bag, but we brought our own. We were also given two bottles of water for the trip and loaned a map of the Bayou. We accidentally brought home the map. I need to return that to them. Anyway.... With a very easy launch, we were on the water and paddling. The bayou was low that day but there were no issues. Did you know there are bald eagles out there? We saw alligators but they kept their distance and so did we. However, we did stop to watch when two alligators got in a fight! Tails were in the air, big splashes... It was crazy. I've never seen anything like it and we got a front row seat. Absolutely amazing, y'all! I loved seeing all of the different birds. The osprey were so cool. And there were fish jumping out of the water near our boats. Just a surreal experience. Y'all gotta try Pinky's. Prices are reasonable and they're just super nice people. The experience on the bayou was so incredible, we're already planning to get back out there as soon as the weather clears up. read more

What a fun way to spend a Saturday morning with four hours to spare, the cost was $45 and the host is a local with knowledgeable experience of Armand Bayou. You don't have to be skilled to kayak, but definitely not afraid of water too. The views were incredibe. I saw blue herons, fishes, and beautiful water foliage. There were two paths that my sibling and I chose; one headed to Clear Lake park (more challenging route) and the route headed towards the Slough. We chose towards the Slough; we only saw one other individuals in a two person tandem kayak. It was fun having separate kayaks to maneuver through the deep waters. I gained some arm strength. The weather was perfect and there wasn't any mosquitoes. I recommend to bring water and snacks. The host provided us with a dry bag. It wasn't optional to wear a life jacket. I started off with one and could barely move my arms to paddle. This was a very peaceful ride! read more

Water Water Everywhere! So if you're looking for some fun in the sun on the water and you don't own your own - this is the place to go. I've rented a few times from them now. Their website tells you everything you need to know. The owner is cool. Weather you doing a single float or a group - they will take care of your needs. Bonus is there are some great places to grab food, drinks, and desserts after you paddle. They also have paddleboards and jet skis if that's your style. Super easy to check in and get on the water. People were nice and attentive, placing a water bottle and vest on your board before heading out. Rental was $25 for one hour. The lake is gorgeous - you'll have fun just SUPing by the beautiful mansions along the water. They also gave us a punch card; for every 5 rentals, you get the 6th one free. I woke up last Friday morning and decided I wanted to try stand up paddleboarding. After browsing Yelp for a bit I settled on Pinky's. The location is a little shed in the back of a parking lot. When driving there you may say to yourself, "It can't be back here!" It is. I decided that one hour would be plenty, so I paid the man for my wife and I. Its $25 for the first hour, so $50 later I was ready to try SUP for the first time. The guy getting us set up gave me some pointers and then helped me onto my board. I balanced on my knees and paddled into Lake Taylor. Pretty soon I was tired of knee-paddling, and I was ready to try standing up my first time. I was nervous! Now I have never been accused of being athletic, and I am about 200lbs, but I was able to stand up pretty easily. Keeping my balance was a constant battle, and my legs were shaking a lot. I never fell in the water the entire time. After our hour was up, we paddled back to the dock and said out goodbyes. I was no long a SUP rookie. By the way my legs were sore later that day from an hour of balancing. If you are looking to get out on the water this is a great place to go. They also offer kayaks rentals and even SUP yoga. I took a small group in June. It was blazing hot and they made sure we had cold water, even bringing some to is when we paddled by again. They took their time explaining to us how to use the equipment and recommending routes. I'll go back with a larger group when it cools off! read more

I came here a few weeks ago with my dad and had a great time. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The owner seemed really passionate about the ecology of the area which was pretty cool. We paddled from marker 19 to 25 and back at the suggestion of the owner since the wind was picking up and the water was choppy. It didn't take the projected three hours, but it was still a really fun time. The bayou was gorgeous and we saw quite a bit of wildlife. Tips: -Expect to get wet- water will run off your paddle and into the kayak, so you're going to be sitting in a little bit of water. Wear a bathing suit and appropriate footwear. -Bring a ziplock if you want to bring your phone or a camera (which is recommended since you'll have some nice photos to take home if you do!) -Be realistic about your experience/abilities. Me and my dad both have a lot of boating experience, so we actually could have handled the choppy water or a longer tour. If you're not experienced, you probably don't want to be paddling for more than 3 hours or through rougher water. -BRING WATER! read more

Nice people and a great business to have in the area. We did one of the self-guided tours and were on the road heading to the location within a few minutes of filling out the disclaimer. The staff took care of setting up the kayaks and dragging them to the water, then gave a quick lesson and we were off. While we did the "2.5 hour" trip from Horsepen, you can go as slowly or as quickly as you'd like. It was a beautiful spring day out, so we took our time and casually floated for awhile through the bayou. In the narrower part of the bayou, we saw a large amount of alligators, which were a lot of fun to kayak by. A few tips: 1. Expect to get wet (especially your butt), so dress accordingly. 2. Bring a ziploc bag. While they have dry bags for you to borrow, it's always good to have double protection for your cell phone. And, you want to bring your cell phone so that you can call them if you have any issues or need an early pickup. 3. They have a spot at the office to leave your car keys so that they don't accidentally puncture your dry bag. 4. Wear old sneakers or other secure shoes (but expect them to get wet!). You use your legs a lot to brace yourself while paddling, and flip flops won't offer good enough support. Overall, this was a great way to spend a nice afternoon and I think it was well worth the rental cost. read more

Friendly staff and a great location (right outside of boons) make it a winner. Took a three hour kayak trip. They set us up and we were on the road to the put in within 10 minutes of showing up. We finished early, not making it back to the shop, but they happily (and quickly) picked us up. Definitely will be coming back to try some of their other routes! read more

Pinky's staff was helpful, fun and very well informed. The equipment was well maintained and clean. The three hour - self-guided tour of Armand Bayou was great . It started off in a tiny creek and ended up in wide expanses of bayou. We saw five species of heron, three species of egrets, black vultures, red slider turtles and multiple species of insects. Very cool natural experience. Absolute silence on the water. The Two for Tuesday deal was great! Saved me $40! read more

Great experience today kayaking Armand Bayou! I did the 3 hour individual trip and had one of the most comfortable kayaks I've ever been provided, a map, and great advice for my adventure. Great place for beginning kayakers to get on the water. Rented 5 kayaks today and took the whole group. Beginners paddled in circles for a little while, got the hang of it and we all had a great relaxing day. Cool breeze on the lake and wonderful Texas sunshine. The staff at Pinky's are excellent. I was a walk up and wanted to rent two single kayaks. The took care of me quickly and got us on the water. While I was there I learned they have nature lovers guided tours that start on Saturdays at 8:30am. Excellent alligator sightings. You can take a tandem kayak or single. They also have paddle boards. I thought they were reasonable priced, had a great map, felt safe the entire time! Overall excellent time I will go back!!! read more

Called to ask about renting a kayak and the guy who answered was completely rude. I asked him about renting a kayak for a couple of hours and he asked if I read their website. I told him no and let him know I'd rented from Pinky's a few years ago and that I'd never had any problems. He said they don't rent after 2p and said you aren't allowed to go anywhere but the specified location and also said you can't fish from their kayaks. I didn't once mention fishing or going to other locations outside of Armand Bayou. I'm an experienced kayaker and wasn't expecting to be given a ration for asking a few simple questions. No worries though. I called Kayak Shack in Kemah and they were more than happy to work with me. I won't be renting from Pinky's again. read more

Love this place! Go paddle boarding in the summer! Charge by the hour, very reasonably priced. Great outside activity on those hot and humid summer days. The staff is super nice and very helpful. I have nothing but great things to say about this place! We got there a little late in the day so the shuttle service that takes you to other parts on Clear Lake wasn't running but Pinky, the owner let us use two kayaks until he closed for 50 bucks. The place is a neat little covered dock Valodo's on Nasa Rd 1. Pinky and the owner is a cool guy. My husband and I went during the summer with our two little brothers, hoping to have a great time. Well, the jet ski were good, but the staff was not so friendly as I see in other reviews. The young men who attended my husband had no manners. He seemed as he did'nt wanted to work. My husband asked if everything was ok, due to his ugly attitude. He said he hurted his back days before. I'm really disappointed the service.. Or more like complete lack of. I wanted to go kayaking today with some friends so we drove the 40 min to Pinky's. We arrived to a big CLOSED sign across the shed. I double checked the website.. Supposed to be open. Then found information buried in their website to call them because they aren't always there during the week but to just call and they'll be there shortly. I called three times, my friend called three times, nothing. While debating what to do another group of ladies showed up and they also tried to call without success. To make matters worse for them they had actually called Pinky's in advance a few days beforehand and told them they were coming Tuesday (today) for kayaks and the staff member assured them that someone would be there. I find it very unprofessional to run a business like this especially when you're charging $25-30 per hour for rented kayaks that looked pretty old, sun damaged, and abused- - our time was wasted and our day was ruined. read more
