Also important was knowing that Southernwood has a local office and that we would be able to find/contact them (if necessary) after the job was completed. Our first experience with Kate, who fielded our call and answered many questions, started the adventure with positivity. Next was our roof inspector and estimator, Geddy Fuller - who was fantastic! He conducted a thorough assessment of the roof/exterior of our home to provide an accurate, competitive quote. He made recommendations when we asked, and was very patient as he guided us through the process. He met our insurance adjuster at the home to answer any questions they had, which helped moved the process along quickly. There were zero high pressure sales tactics, and zero gimmicks - a breath of fresh air! The company was well represented, the paperwork process smooth, and also important to us - the quote was competitive and reasonably priced. We next visited the show room in La Plata, MD which had material samples and colors available for us to review and compare on site. The offices are laid out nicely with many items displayed around the room so you can see the actual colors in person, not just view on a computer screen or in a book. Next was Kirsten, the scheduler, who patiently worked with us to establish a date for install while taking into consideration the weather, our schedule and their schedule. The material arrived on time and the job was completed on the scheduled day! The area was cleaned well afterwards and our property was treated with care. The follow up care we received was also a breath of fresh air - they checked to be sure we were satisfied with the work which included shutters, gutters, fascia board, and other items that helped bring our home up to date, all priced well and of good quality. We received our warranty information to file - and in our case it is transferrable if we decide to sell our home - what a value-added bonus! Overall, our experience with Southernwood Roofing and Siding was very positive; they offer a wide range of quality products for roofing and siding, combined with competitive pricing, and an experienced installation crew. Their expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction are absent. They made an agreement with my ex-wife on some gutters during the roof replacement I authorized. I was not asked nor told about this arrangement. I said several times only what insurance covers. During this entire process Charles harassed my ex-wife for payment checks from the insurance company and then the insurance adjuster to the point that the insurance company detective called me as the uninvolved third party to warm me about Charles toxic behavior towards my ex-wife. In the end all the insurance checks got to Shoreline, despite Charles harassment. His issue was they were sent via USPS and not UPS by the insurance company, something we had no control over. His greed and avarice far outweigh anything I've dealt with in dealing with simple tradesmen. He makes the experience truly exhausting and makes you regret every single moment. CHARLES wrote and picked out 16 photos and told me if I posted that positive review that he would knock off the extra cost $2500 of the gutters if I paid the $2000 my exwife had stiffed them on. I agreed, again foolishly verbal. I left the reviews and paid the invoice sent to $0. Months passed with no issues. 2 days before CHRISTMAS, I get a new invoice with the $2500 on it. I remind him of the verbal and he goes quiet again. Now it's New Year's Eve, both times we spend with our families, and this guy send the invoice again. Literally on the holidays. Despite a verbal agreement that both he AND Matt the owner were on the phone for. I said fine, money is tight and I'll pay the $2500 but you're not getting positive reviews. He writes the positive reviews and sends you photos and tells you to post exactly what he sends you. Charles Owens specifically, and Shoreline Exteriors by extension, do not act in good faith and will harass you, create toxicity, and break verbal agreements with you all in an effort to make a few extra bucks dishonestly.

It wasn't a front line employee, but the actual business owner who says he reviews every estimate before it reaches the client to ensure that it has his seal of approval. When Bob arrived, he was warm and mild mannered...not a pushy salesman, lazy technician, or sketchy contractor trying to pull the wool over your eyes. He took the time to explain his assessment in detail, without being overly technical, but expressed the professionalism one would expect with such a huge investment. When he followed up with us, the report clearly reflected an honest appraisal and his integrity could not be outdone by ANY of the other roofing specialist that we received estimates from (one should always shop around for this very reason). As with anything, you get what you pay for. I would not recommend this company, based on both past and recent experiences. Over 20 years ago,…read morethey did siding and windows on my parents' house. Years later, the windows were letting in drafts. When my parents tried to file a claim, the manufacturer said the issue was with the installation, and when they went back to the contractor, the contractor blamed the window company. My parents were left to eat the cost. Didn't put two and two together until now. Fast forward to 2021, I had them install gutters on my house. In 2023, I called for a roof quote but never moved forward. In 2026, I tried to call them again, but they wouldn't return my call. Upon inspecting my gutters, I discovered major installation issues: the leaf fitters were shoved underneath my shingles, shingles from a previous roof layer were pushed back and the gutters were installed too high. This poor work has caused my fascia board to rot over time. So glad they haven't returned my call. Stay away and don't be naive like me. Needless to say, I've hired someone else for full roof replacement along with fascia board, soffit and gutters.
