    Skirt Steak

TLDR: CHURRASCO A LA PARILLA - the meat smelled off and the juice underneath was gray. I don't really post reviews but when things are bad I feel other people should be aware Came here to celebrate my gf's birthday on a Tuesday night. With all the better reviews maybe we just had an off night for cooks in the back, idk We ordered the Patatas Bravas - potato with tomato sauce Albondiguillas Estofadas - meatballs Montaditos de panceta - pork belly over Spanish bread Churrassco a la perilla - skirt steak The potatoes were fine but nothing amazing. The meatballs, I mean taste like they were from IKEA. At the least, they were definitely frozen. The pork belly was just okay nothing special. The skirt steak was the final straw for us. Immediately the presentation wasn't great but when we went to have a bite you can smell it. It smelled like that last bit of ground meat you left in fridge for a week because you forgot about it. The juice underneath didn't have much red to it like you would imagine a steak would, instead it just looked gross and gray. We were immediately done after that. I kindly asked the waiter for the bill but refused to pay for the steak we didn't eat because of how it smelled. He was very polite and didn't argue and without hesitation he gave me the bill without the steak being charged. On one hand I appreciate not making a scene but I was surprised that a manager didn't at least talk to us about our dissatisfaction. It almost felt like it was normal. 2 stars because the ambiance was nice and the waiters did rotate frequently to us to see how things were. Taking the gf to another restaurant tomorrow to make up for this

First we were served a delicious sopa de gallego (broth)I ordered grilled octopus as an appetizer was cooked unevenly the thicker parts had slimy texture and chewy that to me meant it was kinda raw-as a main meal I had the salmon stuffed with crab meat and delicious wine sauce very much enjoyed this dish. What I liked was that we had various waiters attending our needs. For dessert an almond tart taste good. I loved the ambiance perfect lighting-tables were spaced well (not a big space) -didn't hear any music which was surprising

Must start with saying they have excellent service and great ambience. Beautiful decorations and art. We were in for a group dinner. Got to try different dishes, among them octopus was good, liked the rabbit dish a lot too. Sirloin tapas was disappointing, it was overcooked. The flan was soft but little extra sweet.

Delicious and authentic. Came here with a bunch of friends for tapas, and they did not disappoint! We probably tried all of them and each one was so good .. the mini meatballs the croquettes uhg. All of it so delicious. The sangria was also delightful! Def recommend!

First time here. Food was great and very favorable. Dessert to die for, especially the crepes with mousse and walnuts (Filloas Gallegas) and the Serradura (a pudding dish with whip cream and crumbled cookies or graham crackers). To begin the meal was a delicious sopa de gallego (broth with white beans, sausage or ham, and green turnips or something like that) and really good bread rolls. Then we transitioned with appetizers, which included grilled octopus (wish they would have provided a sauce with it for more flavor), fried calamari, and beef empanadas, Maduros, and last but not least, the most flavorful and delicious appetizers of all, Montaditos Panceta (pork belly on a toast with grilled/sautéed onions). For main course we got Paella Valenciana, which was good but a bit soggy; too much water remained in the pan. Wasn't thrilled that they precooked seafood and then added it to the dish - noticeable won't be boiled shrimp that was added. I cook, so I can tell the shrimp was not cooked right he rice the entire time. Now for service, what really pissed me off is when the waiter approached the table and started to speak Spanish. No waiter should assume a customer speaks Spanish. I had to stop him during his introduction. Then came my Diet Coke with no ice, which was flat. He exchanged it for me and brought me another flat one with ice this time. Third attempt had no ice but still the soda was flat. Ambiance was nice, reminded me of Europe, Spain specifically. As for price, not bad. For two and for all the food we ordered, with 20% tip, total was almost $200.

Trio of tapas. Cod croquettes, garlic shrimp in green sauce and fried chorizo. Fantastico.

Always great food, ambience and service. Fantastic stop before a concert across the park.

    Crème brûlée

We came here tonight for dinner, and it is overall a nice experience. We order claims in green sauce , shrimp in garlic sauce , octopus and paella and they are all very good. I would only complain the small portion of octopus, as it's a small tail but cost $24 which I would probably not gonna order this dish again as I didn't really see the value. My favorite dish is clams in green sauce , the clams are super fresh, tender and juicy, they are cooked perfectly and serve in hot green garlicky sauce which is perfect for dipping the bread in. The rest of the dishes we ordered are priced well and very delicious. I usually am not a desert person but I really like the crema Catalana ( crème brûlée) that we ordered. There are three waiters taking care of the dining room and I think they all do excellent job and very efficient. I take 1 star off as they charge 3.5% fee if you paid credit card. I am not a fan of the restaurant letting their customers to absorb the fees.

Might have been just the night we were there. Crowded and chaos behind the bar. Can't decide if the drink master was the manager, owner, bartender or all three. Although the service was a bit slow, the food (Piaya) and appys were very good and nice and hot. Loved to watch the "show" as we ate. We've been here a number of times as it's across from Bergen PAC and will return.

I am such a sucker for tapas and Pintxo y Tapas has been on my list to visit for a while. My SO and I decided to make reservations for an early dinner before going to a show, and we did street parking about a block away. First, the service was spectacular, everyone was so attentive and always made sure our drinks were filled. There are several vegetarian options available on the menu, so I was able to order an appetizer and an incredible paella. Fresh and flavorful, my paella was the best I've had at any tapas restaurant so far. My meal also came with the option of soup, but the server confirmed that I was vegetarian before letting me know that the soup had meat. These little details are so appreciated, so I was really impressed with the staff. The red sangria was quite good, I ended up ordering a mini pitcher for myself. The interior décor was fantastic, offering an intimate and authentic atmosphere, I really couldn't recommend this place more.

One thing I do know is that I definitely didn't get the chicharrón or the pernil. Once we walked in, the host seated us at an open table. The restaurant is pretty spacious, with music playing in the background. I also noticed a DJ booth, so I'm guessing it gets pretty lively at night. I ended up ordering the daily special, the Pernil al Horno ($15), which came with white rice and beans. The pernil was topped with crispy pork skin, which I really appreciated. It was juicy, flavorful, and the crispy skin added the perfect crunch to every bite. My friend ordered the chicharrón, and it was awesome. It wasn't overly fatty, just the right balance of meat, fat, and crispy skin. Every bite had the perfect combination of crunch and flavor. I'll definitely be back for the chicharrón, as a snack or a full meal. If you're a fan of chicharrón, I highly recommend giving this place a try. * Parking on premise * Outdoor dining available

However, every time I visit this place I can clearly say I truly enjoy my meal. You also can get a cold beer for about 6 dollars which is reasonable compared to other places. The issue is they make some things really well and maybe others not so great. I always eat a few things I know they make well. After all you don't order a filet at a fried chicken joint. Today I visited after being disappointed at the Freakin Rican spot on Cedar lane. See that review for details. I went by Elsa's and ordered some Mofongo with their famous Chicharones and it was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and paired with some delicious sauce that was perfect. My wife had oxtails with rice and beans and they were delicious too! We enjoyed a couple of really cold beers each and our bill was only around 60 dollars. The place has a really relaxing atmosphere and the service was good. I had to battle with a couple of knats but it just added to the entertainment, lol! The place could use some remodeling and cleaning but at least they consistently serve me good food at a great price. If you go there just temper your expectations. It reminds me of a roadside eatery in the islands which always serves good food but you have to battle with some bugs. Lmao!

THE FOOD ----------------…read more+ Pulpo a La Gallega - Most tender octopus we've everrrrr had! Not even close. The octopus was cut into pieces AND there was a surprisingly very generous portion of it sitting on a small round plate surrounding some potatoes. There was also a slight hint of rock salt to top it off. + Paella Valenciana - Possibly some of the best paella we've ever had! The Spanish rice was soooooo flavorful, moist and delicious. There was a healthy amount of ingredients all around - shrimps, scallops, clams, mussels, calamari, chicken, sausage and a lobster sitting on top. + Surf & Turf - 18oz New York Strip was cooked perfectly medium and the juices were pouring out of it. The lobster was also good too, maybe a tad overcooked, but still was delicious. FYI, it also came with a side of rice and chips. - Churrasco a la Parrilla - Presentation was great with the steak laid neatly on the plate, but the churrasco was off this evening. First, it was medium well instead of the medium that I requested, so that was not good. Second, the flavor of the steak was NOT good at all, which was a bigger knock for us. We suspect that the meat might have been spoiled as it just didn't taste fresh. When we were eating the steak in the restaurant, it wasn't as evident, but still tasted funky. When we tried the leftovers of it the next day, it was very apparent that the steak had gone bad. Wanted to really love this, but, unfortunately, I couldn't ignore that it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. FYI, it also came with a side of rice and chips. + Coconut Flan - Loved this. Basically your typical flan with a coconut twist to it. + Complimentary Bread with Garlic-Herb Olive Oil Dip/Pesto - PHENOMENAL bread and I could eat the dip/pesto allll dayyyy long! The bread came out piping hot and fresh. The dip was something that we had never seen at any restaurant. It was a thick pesto-like dip that had a light olive flavor to it. We just kept eating it and eating it and eating it until our entrees came out. THE SERVICE ------------------- + EXCELLENT waiter service all evening. Our waiter, Eric, was super friendly, informative about the menu items and accommodated any request we had. He was great throughout our meal. + All of the waiters came by to sing Happy Birthday to us as we were celebrating a birthday in our family. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- + Very spacious interior with a lot of tables. The dining area is actually separated into 2 spaces and a large bar sits towards the front. + Decorations are beautiful inside, especially the walk in through the entrance. + There are a few outdoor tables for those warm nights. - No private parking lot, so street parking is your best bet, although there is plenty of street parking right outside since it's a very quiet street. FYI, the racquet club across the street had a sign that said "Additional parking for Sayola Restaurant", but then also had a sign that said the parking was only for the racquet club??? It was confusing, so we just parked on the street, which was fine. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Dined in at 6 PM on an August Saturday evening and, to our surprise, it was fairly quiet inside. There were a few tables dining in and having a good time, but it never came close to reaching capacity. It was definitely way more empty than full.

Ham croquettes and the bao buns with shredded beef were average. For entree I ordered the Rabo Encendido (braised oxtail stew). It came with three pieces of bone with plenty of meat on them, on side of rice and beans. I loved the taste of the oxtail and the stew, was flavorful and meat was tender. I also got to try the seafood paella which lacked flavor, rice was so bland. The chicken & waffle's waffle was good but the fried chicken pieces were so basic. However, that Lula's of Lodi is not open on Sundays, while this one is, hence why I decided to finally go the extra mile (literally) to check this Lula's out. To be honest, I didn't look at much of the menu (although I'm sure much of it is good), EXCEPT for the Daily Specials. Each day, just like the other Lula's, there are different items that you can order for a VERY, VERY reasonable price ($8.50 and up as of Sept. 2023). It's actually quite shocking that you can order an entree of anything in 2023 for just $8.50, but you can here! All of the Daily Specials come with a protein of your choice (depending on what's available that day) + white/yellow rice and pinto beans. When I say protein of your choice, like I said, various days will have a different offering, such as, Shredded Beef/Ropa Vieja, Chicken Stew, Roasted Pork/Pernil, Baked Chicken, 1/2 Chicken, Pork Stew, Ox Tail Stew, Baked Chicken, etc. On our 1st visit to this location, we ordered a few entrees to try - Shredded Beef/Ropa Vieja, Roasted Pork/Pernil, Baked Chicken, 1/2 Chicken and Baked Chicken. To sum it up, everything was good and the portions were HUGGGGE. So much so that we easily split each entree into 2 meals. Yellow, and even the White, rice were tasty. The meats were solid - some on the drier side, but it's to be expected with Pernil and pieces of white meat Baked Chicken. The pinto beans definitely helped with adding some moisture to the meal. Since this location is located within the Bergenfield town, you can only find parking strictly on the street. Also, this location has a few tables that you can dine in on, but just about every customer I saw walk in, walked back out with takeout. Just about all of the employees didn't speak much English here and only one was delegated to help me because they spoke it somewhat, so try to be patient when ordering if you don't speak Spanish. And, one more tidbit is that you can order online via their website, but it's possible that not all of the items that you purchase will be available, so when you show up, they might ask you to order what's available.
