Wow just about describes the cuisine and desserts prepared and served by Pinx. The food and desserts are second to none. I am a very discerning patron when it comes to dining and my food and will usually comment or complain when my food is not prepared correctly or does not taste good. In the case of Pinx everything that I have tried have been prepared perfectly and tantalizes the taste buds. The lamb is to die for. I wholeheartedly give Pinx five stars and more if I could. I had the Brown Sugar Glazed Lamb Chops that you take home and pop in the oven per the instructions that come in the nice box with a ribbon. The lamb chops were so good, and it was a nice portion. They have catered an event at my place of employment and that was off the hook. Sure wish there was a restaurant that I could drive to and sit down and eat. Maybe there will be one day. I cannot tell you how AWESOME PINX is! Here's why: 1) They catered a backyard party that included some people with food sensitivities. Not only did they go out of their way to make gluten-free versions of their food, but they even set up an entirely different table to make sure everything was separated. 2) The food was spectacular...seriously. I had people for days telling me that the food was the best they've ever had at a catered event. If you enjoy southern food, you won't know how much you like it until you have Pinx! (And I definitely recommend the smothered chicken & short ribs!) Also, bonus: the leftovers were as good, if not better, the next day! 3) Pinx serves the food as part of the price of catering. At first, I didn't like the idea of having servers --- this was a backyard party, and it seemed like it would seem too formal. However, the servers were laid back, relaxed, and actually added to the chillness of the party! What more could you ask for? Not sure where to start- the food, staff, presentation- it was all SO incredible!! My parents wanted a southern themed 25th anniversary party, which meant that they basically just wanted the southern food. So after researching a number of caterers, we decided on Pinx. And I have to say, they exceeded all expectations! First and foremost, the food was outstanding. For the appetizers, we ordered the spicy plantain chips, beef lumpia (I know it's not southern, but my mom is Filipino so this was a must) and the bbq'd bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp were more than a mouthful and the bacon was cooked to perfection. We had guests who don't like seafood chasing down the staff who were serving the passed hor'dourves! The spicy plantains melted in your mouth. The combo of spice with the sprinkled cinnamon and salt blew everybody's taste buds. And the beef lumpia was a hit, both during the party and as late night snacks for folks. For dinner, we had a plethora of options: braised ribs, shrimp n' grits, jambalaya, mac n' cheese, fried chicken, cornbread, salad, veggies. It was all so so so tasty that it's hard to say what my favorite was. All the guests were so impressed with the food and kept saying how good it was and asking who the caterer was or how I found them. I saw people who never have more than one serving, go back three times!! Lastly, the dessert. Presentation of all the individual chocolate mousses and peach cobblers added a touch of class to the entire dessert and coffee table. Secondly (but no less important in my mind) were Pinky and her team. Everyone was friendly and incredibly helpful- one of the most professional groups I've encountered when hosting a party. They were respectful of our home, friendly with all the guests, and beyond accommodating to their surroundings (i.e. they were friendly even to our small dogs who were wandering in and out of the kitchen all night). It ultimately felt like family was helping with our party. And they left my kitchen in better shape that it was when they arrived! As I said to Pinky when I first talked with her about my parents anniversary party- the menu is southern food elevated! But in all honesty, it's so much more. It's the effort put into the food (southern themed or not), the beauty of the presentation, and the warmness of all the staff. I got them for our work lunch (170 employees) and they kept boosting on their "excellent customer service, huge portions, great vegan/veggie option, etc." They definitely fell short of that. Issues: 1. They forgot an entree (several trays) 2. Vegan and veggie options were not good 3. The account rep suddenly left the job without notifying me in advance. I had to find out for myself a few days before the work lunch 3. Food ran out. I continuously told them that each person eats like they're 2 people and I need a lot of portion. PINX was serving up sweet potato waffles ($5) today at the 2014 Eat Real Festival at Oakland's Jack London Square. I remembered the waffles as being super yummy when I tried them a year or two ago at the SF Street Food Fest and was eager to eat one again. While I was also tempted to get an order of the always good maple glazed bacon, I stuck with only the waffle. Maybe I expected too much and maybe my memory was wrong, but the sweet potato waffle was not super yummy this time. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Pinky and her staff were at our wedding reception on 11/4/17. My husband found Pinx while working his route in downtown Oakland. I googled them and we made an appointment. We spent two hours with Pinky, her husband Craig and staff. Our tasting was amazing, but the conversation and hospitality is what really helped us make our decision. We felt like we were amongst family and the food was outstanding. It reminded me of my great grandmother's cooking and was the ultimate comfort food. Communication was so easy and we always received a response right away. Moving on to last Saturday, our guests raved about how good the food was. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp and beef sliders w/blue cheese crumble served during cocktail hour. Dinner consisted of cilantro lime rice, bourbon beef steak tips, colorful veggies, salad and citrus glazed chicken. I only had a few bites, because I was pulled in so many directions as a new bride. Pinx catered a breakfast event for Yelp that I was fortunate enough to attend. Pinx is awesome, I love their brightly colored shirts the staff wears and they were all really friendly. They made maple bacon which was sweet and salty and awesome. They also made red velvet pancakes with a cream cheese frosting that was to DIE for. RIP diet but it was so delicious. Went to the Oakland Food Festival two weeks ago and went straight to Pinx. I had heard what great food they had, but my wife and I had never tasted it. My wife is a foodie and she will tell you if something is ok or great. Well, she loved it. I want to thank Pinx for a great food experience.
