3/28/26. 2.5 stars. Visiting this OG place was a bit of a let down. The chicken breast ($7.50) was juicy and I really enjoyed the green sauce. The pisco sour ($15) was made as req w/o simple syrup but not worth the price. Now, the chaufa with chicken/shrimp ($28) was bland and the huge chicken pieces were bone dry. We also had the lomo saltado ($36) and that was also disappointing. The steak was tender but there was zero seasoning/taste. It was taken off of the bill but I don't see myself ever returning.
Came here this afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner and we shared the Matador Combo, which was more than enough for the 3 of us; and they didn't disappoint either, the food IS DELICIOUS and we washed it down with their famous red sangria! If you haven't gone, make your way!!!
This was my first time ever having a chicken empanada at this particular location and style! Here in New York. I forget which cultural background my boyfriend took me to for empanadas, but I've only had the Argentinian style made by my friend at her house. I've never had a chicken empanada that had olives and raisins inside it's mixture, but honestly, the sweet and sourness of both fruits gave the chicken a very good flavor, and I loved mixing the kind of mustardy zingy sauce with the green sauce that had some spice or heat!! We ordered takeout so the two chicken empanadas were made perfectly on time and after our 20 minute drive home, they were actually still warm and I liked the texture of the bread as well! It was light and had a almost MASA crispiness to it. I'm not too sure what it was made out of, but it gave a different texture to the dough portion of the empanada itself, which I was also impressed with! I can't wait to go back to New York and get more!! I would also say this particular area had so many different Latin cultures. I was very impressed!! I'm from the Bay Area of California and predominantly we have Mexican and Tex-Mex food here but not too many other Latin cultures. Kind of sad since the Bay Area is a melting pot of cultures itself predominantly Mexican food outweighs all the other Latin cultures here. I really appreciated all the different cultural Latin foods in this particular area of New York!!
First time trying this and we got it for take out. Overall, pretty good. The chicken is good but it definitely needs the sauces (the green is the best). The rice is really really good as well. The restaurant doesn't skimp out on the portions either, they piled on the plantains and we got 3 pretty big pieces of chicken. Would order again and recommend.
Boy I haven't been here in ages! We had an event here on Sunday for my mom's best friend's church and it was perfect. Honestly it worked out so well I might consider having my baby's first birthday here. The event was held at their private hall next to their restaurant. For $25 we got a 1/4 chicken, salad, French fries and fried rice. The meal came with a glass of sangria or an Inca cola. The chicken was good; well seasoned and juicy. The rice was good and the fries weren't frozen. It was a good size plate for $25. The service was good, we even had a pisco sour at $15 a glass. It had enough liquor that you didn't need another glass. I am definitely thinking about having my baby's birthday here. I am glad it worked out and the music was top notch. See you soon Pio Pio!

I have been coming here for many years and have had mixed experiences. Their food has been good at times and a miss at others. My go to would usually be their whole chicken with order of maduros, salad and a glass of sangria. My aunt threw her husbands 50 birthday party in their private room and it was actually a great experience. The private room has its own bathroom which is great and convenient. The party room is very spacious and could easily hold 50 people or more. The service was great that night and the food was absolutely delicious. The jalea was well cooked and seasoned. Their whole chicken was juicy, their rice and beans were delicious and their salad was fresh. The only complaint I have is their sangria used to be much better; it was extremely sweet and very expensive for the jar.
My friend and her family have been going here for years. I loved the empanada de pollo because it was very flakey and fresh! The sangria was probably the best I ever had to be honest. The arroz chaufa can be made with chicken or with chicken and shrimp. I opted for chicken only. The food is big portions so be prepared to have leftovers or share. The space a very large and the bathrooms are very clean. The music is a nice volume and they have nice tunes. The service is excellent! Highly recommend. It is a bit on the pricy side, but it is 100% worth it.
Been here numerous times. Always delicious! They are very attentive and accommodating. We ordered empanadas and salchi papa to start. So good! We split the rotisserie chicken & lomo salta do for lunch. Such big portions & delicious. I love their salad! Can't wait to go back.

We always pop in here when in the area. Large, spacious and tasty. We arrived Saturday evening around 7:30 and were pleasantly surprised to only wait about 5 minutes for our party of 7. We ordered two Matador Combos. Each combo includes a whole roasted chicken, salchipapas (fries and sliced hot dogs-sounds odd but oh-so yummy!) plantains (either tostones or maduros), delicious abundant salad and rice and beans. They aren't known for their rice and beans but all else is amazing! Best chicken around and the green sauce is one of a kind! Sangria and chicha moradas are a must!

If you enjoy a Peruvian food with an American twist, then definitely visit Pio Pio. If you prefer authentic Peruvian food, head elsewhere. Although the food was good, it's not what I was expecting. The decor is nice and service was on point. Unfortunately, the only thing that ruined my experience is that they had a long line of people waiting so the door was left open for an extended period of time which created a cold draft. You can literally never go wrong with Pio Pio. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Their sangria is nice and strong. Their "new" location is large and even has a small amount of outdoor seating. The only issue is parking which is not easy any day or time. read more
I love love love Pio Pio. Every location that I've been to has not failed to satisfy my Peruvian food craving. The ceviche was amazing, the empanadas were so good, the fried calamari was good as well. The lomo Saltado was perfect, delicious, and just amazing. The rotisserie chicken was also really good. You can't go wrong with yummy food. The service wasn't so great though, it was very hard to get the waiter's attention. read more
I cannot say enough things about this place. The food is always always always on point. I recently had my bridal shower there in their party room on the first level. It was spacious and clean. This place is great for groups and families. You can order a big chicken meal and share everything. This feeds the family sir friend group for a reasonable price. The lomo saltado was seasoned well and the fries crispy. The avocado salad had light dressing. My friends enjoyed the kitchen. The beans had a nice flavor not spicy. You can't go wrong with Pio Pio, they have about three locations in the city and a few in Queens. The food is consistent. I ordered the shrimp with yellow rice, avocado slices, sweet plantains, baked chicken and white sangria. The food was very flavorful and well seasoned, you can taste the saffron, fresh garlic and herbs. The secret is definitely in the sauce! The chicken is served with an amazing green Peruvian sauce that is finger-licking good. read more

I came here to celebrate my bestfriends 30th bday on a Friday night & it went great! Their hostess was very understanding with our time changes and we had a great time. The restaurant wasn't packed that night and their customer service was great! The food tasted soo good and their sangria was a hit! Even their live mariachi and music was fun to jam out to. Even though this location doesn't serve steak with basil pasta (my fav meal) & they could have put more French fries inside their lomo dish I would definitely come here again. read more
First time trying Peruvian food and I will say I am not disappointed! This place is HUGE and has plenty of seating available. I arrived with my family (party of 4) on a Saturday around 7pm and we were seated immediately. (Parking is horrible in the area that time of night) You could tell this was a very popular spot amongst the locals - many people came for their birthday since the waiters and waitresses would start clapping and singing multiple times throughout the night. It was a little on the noisier side since it was so busy and everyone was sitting relatively close to each other. We ordered the matador combo, a seafood fried rice platter, the soup of the day, and a couple drinks. This was more than enough food to go around! The matador combo comes with 2 roasted chickens, hot dog and fries platter, rice and beans, maduros (plantains), and an avocado salad. The seafood fried rice platter also came with a whole side of maduros as well. The soup of the day was chicken rice soup, which was actually pretty hearty for a cold Fall day. Portion sizes were gigantic, and prices were pretty fair. Overall, I would recommend Pio Pio if you're feeling some Peruvian food - it would be great for larger parties as well. read more

This was my first time having Peruvian food in New York and I have to say that I was mostly a fan. What I am taking points for is that the service was really inattentive even though the restaurant was not very busy otherwise it would easily be a 3.5 star review which would automatically be rounded up to four stars. We started with this avocado dip that I think they called a "ceviche" with shrimp on top. I really liked it except there was something like corn meal in it and I found it to be a textural conundrum. The empanadas were delicious especially the crust. I could eat those every single day. The plantains that I had were not the type that I am accustomed to as they were neither crispy nor soft on the inside. Instead it tasted like they had been sitting outside for a while and that they had been forgotten and reheated. Extremely dry texture and I had a hard time just finishing the one that I got. The rice and the chicken were definitely the favorite part of my meal. The chicken skin is to die for, tbh. It's perfectly crispy and seasoned. There is not anything that I would change about that seasoning or the method they use to cook. The rice reminded me a bit of Mambo in Houston but better. I absolutely LOVED the bean sprouts in it. Everyone at the table loved the french fries but since I am not really much into french fries, I'd skip them and order more empanadas. read more

First time back since before covid... Went on Friday afternoon around 3pm. Food was good but sangria wasn't the same. Not nearly as tasteful as I remember it. Service was HORRIBLE, so slow. We basically could have left without paying and they would have never noticed!!! That's how bad it was! We were totally ignored! Don't see why I should ever come back to dine in here again. Go somewhere else, this place isn't worth it when you have so many better options in the area. read more
Tried something new after eating the same thing for my entire life. The chaufa blahhhhhhhhhh so not worth it. I'll never give up my chicken rice and beans with green sauce ever again! Tres leches was moist spongy cake. Pretty good Peach sorbet was perfect as well Pio Pio, is PIO PIO. it's delish every time. Simple. MATADOR is the biggest bang for your buck. For $42 you get a whole chicken. Salchipapa. Salad w/ avocado. A side order of rice & beans. And a side order of tostones or maduros. It's all amazing. It's inexpensive. You're almost always quickly seated. But on a busy day, it may take a while before your waiter comes to your table. Still very much worth it in every sense. I went to Pio Pio for brunch a couple of weeks ago and my family and I had a wonderful experience. Considering how busy they were for brunch, we were seated quickly and very comfortably. It's was a beautiful day so we were able to snag a table in their back yard. Such a beautiful area to dine. We were greeted by our waiter just at the right time. With ice water at hand, he was so kind and caring, asking if we needed any extra for our child (infant) Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The fried rice was out of this world. Totally unforgettable. Definitely will be ordering that dish again when I return. What a beautiful brunch. read more

Geeze Louise... Parking is a B;\#h! Once, you finally find a legal spot you can fit in, hopefully you can remember the location and make the journey back. Can you tell parking was more then a Nightmare? Overall a good experience, it's no secret this place is popular. I was told to give this location a try by some fellow elites and their reviews have been posted singing their praises. (Thanks to Pamela M. and check out the celebrity Mike S.'s review) The atmosphere was lively and the place is busy. It was a Saturday night but we were seated immediately. With several larger parties in attendance our party of three was never neglected by our pleasant waiter Pablo. Of course we went with the recommended Matador Combo ($39): 1 whole mama juanita's rotisserie chicken, yellow rice, red beans, tostones, salchipapa & avocado salad served family style. We subbed the salchipapa for more rice and switched the tostones for maduros. Happy we did because the rice portions were really small for a family style combo. In addition orders were placed for chicken empanadas (4/$16) to start and a pitcher of red sangria ($36). The food was very good with a few personally preferences. I didn't particularly care for the olives in the empanadas, the sangria pitchers were on the smaller side and the ice could be lighter. The chicken was tasty but slightly fatty and the avocado salad and maduros were on point. I usually opt for white sangria (red is not my thing), so at the end of the meal I ordered 1/2 pitcher ($18) of white (very small carafe). I must say that I really enjoyed the red and in-fact it was better then the white. I would return if planning a night out in Queens again however parking will weigh heavily on my decision when deciding if it will be Pio Pio or another. Just A Note: They have a Banquet hall/ event space attached. So if it's your first time it's the glass doors and not the solid wood ones. read more
Enjoyed the meal here. Was a last minute lunch decision and it was a great choice. Came in for lunch it wasn't so busy. Service was attentive and very nice. Very clean looking restaurant and it's so huge. Would suggest for larger groups for sure. The seafood soup was out of this world perfect. So I just got into this soup and so far all that I've had is chewy seafood. But this was was cooked so well. Every piece of seafood that was in there was so tender. As I kept picking around and I kept finding different stuff. Fish, shrimp, calamari, clam, mussel, scallop, etc oh em geeeee. Best seafood soup I've had so far. The half chicken came with French fries and salad. The salad was good. The chicken was just ok. Wish the skin was crispier. read more

Pio Pio is very much alive and thriving even with COVID raging. On a Friday night, all tables were filled by 6pm and the space is spacious enough to where we were seated without a wait. There is more than enough space between tables to where it's tempting for me to get up and dance to their music! We ordered a Camarones Cuzco and lomo saltado (my favorite!). Both were amazing and I highly recommend. Although I will say, a tiny bit more rice would have been nice. We finished the rice before the meat! Camarones Cuzco is creamy and filling. The meat for the lomo was also super soft. Their famous green sauce is given in to go packets because of COVID. You can request mayo and ketchup on the side if you like to mix it. They're super generous with condiments, limes, etc. if you request it. Max per party is 4 people. I'd say this is a great place for date night if you want a large, bustling place to "get lost" in, as opposed to a quiet place where everyone can near your conversation lol. Also a great place for friends night/family. Skip the tres leches, it was a spongecake and instead of milk being SOAKED in, it felt like it was just poured over, and I found myself constantly trying to spoon milk over it to get more favor. read more

Received food cold, French fries soggy. As for service we waited for 20 minutes after being seated for someone to come over. I asked the busboy if he could get the waitstaff. The bathrooms are disgusting I remember when this place was clean and restaurant was neat. I don't know what happened in the last year but it's not what it use to be. I saw the manager and told him he chuckled like I was joking. Never bringing my family back. Good luck I hope management reads this and responds which I doubt just like our server. read more

We recently came here for a family gathering. The interior was beautiful and spacious. We ordered two whole chicken (one combo that comes with avocado salad and rice beans and one separate whole chicken, a Arroz Chaufa, a Ceviche Mixto and a Caesar salad. The chicken was really flavorful but the fried rice was too salty. The avocado salad was delicious. We enjoyed the experience but at the end the service was a little slow. We waited to get the check for quite a while when the tables were not filled. It was a nice meal! read more

don’t know, but their take-out is very efficient!
How much is it to rent the space?
I am not sure as we just made a reservation for our large family versus an event at there restaurant renting a room. I am sure they have someone who can guide you on all the different prices and room choices.
Iam planning a party in one of the party rooms its my first time is for october 22..will love to know other people experience and advice .i want to know if is worth the money (it is a bit pricey)?
