The food here is so good but the service is so slow. This place is huge so it's great for big parties. The portions are big and reasonably priced. The menu is simple with combos and some alternate options. My family of 8 usually gets the matador combo and the jalea with a couple pitchers of sangria to wash it all down. They also have a patio area that's beautiful. I took off a star because even though the food is delicious, I often felt like I had to fight for the attention of the waitstaff. One of my favorite restaurants and the best Peruvian food in NYC! I have been dining at this restaurant for over a decade, way before they expanded. I'm so happy they have locations throughout the city and expanded their menu beyond just chicken combos. They also have the best sangria & Peruvian green sauce. Given many painful experiences in the past here (purely from overeating, not because anything was wrong with the food), I kept it simple for a brunch with my wife. Got a whole chicken and a side of rice and beans. The matador combo is good but a lot of food, and tostones are so hit-or-miss (usually a miss) anywhere for me. The chicken came out in just a few minutes as did the rice and beans. Servers were really nice. Sangria was strong too. The ambience here is what I love most about this location. I actually live a lot closer to the original on Woodhaven Blvd but the seating is limited there. And the ones in the city look nice but a little too fancy. This place has live music sometimes. And the walls with the masks add a nice cultural touch. The inside is also quite large and there's a party room downstairs as well. Great location, great food, great service. Eat well! read more

I ordered the shrimp with yellow rice, avocado slices, sweet plantains, baked chicken and white sangria. Pio Pio, where do I begin. The first Pio Pio is located on Woodhaven blvd. It has about 4 tables, I've been going there since he opened. I would eat there about 3 or 4 times a week. The chicken is so moist and cooked thoroughly, we always got the matador combo, it's a whole chicken, with Rice and beans, sache papa's, Maduro, and allvacado salad. You will definitely leave dull. They have a great sangria, as well as beer and cocktails. I've been to every location, bothe in queens and the one in the bronx. The quality, and taste of food is the same in all locations. I crave it feom time to time, gotta have it and the mustard sauce is amazing with the chicken. We even take out catered orders for party's. I've been a customer of Pio Pio for about 30yrs now. First time trying Peruvian food and I will say I am not disappointed! This place is HUGE and has plenty of seating available. I arrived with my family (party of 4) on a Saturday around 7pm and we were seated immediately. (Parking is horrible in the area that time of night) You could tell this was a very popular spot amongst the locals - many people came for their birthday since the waiters and waitresses would start clapping and singing multiple times throughout the night. It was a little on the noisier side since it was so busy and everyone was sitting relatively close to each other. We ordered the matador combo, a seafood fried rice platter, the soup of the day, and a couple drinks. This was more than enough food to go around! The matador combo comes with 2 roasted chickens, hot dog and fries platter, rice and beans, maduros (plantains), and an avocado salad. The seafood fried rice platter also came with a whole side of maduros as well. The soup of the day was chicken rice soup, which was actually pretty hearty for a cold Fall day. Portion sizes were gigantic, and prices were pretty fair. Overall, I would recommend Pio Pio if you're feeling some Peruvian food - it would be great for larger parties as well. read more

This was my first time having Peruvian food in New York and I have to say that I was mostly a fan. What I am taking points for is that the service was really inattentive even though the restaurant was not very busy otherwise it would easily be a 3.5 star review which would automatically be rounded up to four stars. We started with this avocado dip that I think they called a "ceviche" with shrimp on top. I really liked it except there was something like corn meal in it and I found it to be a textural conundrum. The empanadas were delicious especially the crust. I could eat those every single day. The plantains that I had were not the type that I am accustomed to as they were neither crispy nor soft on the inside. Instead it tasted like they had been sitting outside for a while and that they had been forgotten and reheated. Extremely dry texture and I had a hard time just finishing the one that I got. The rice and the chicken were definitely the favorite part of my meal. The chicken skin is to die for, tbh. It's perfectly crispy and seasoned. There is not anything that I would change about that seasoning or the method they use to cook. The rice reminded me a bit of Mambo in Houston but better. I absolutely LOVED the bean sprouts in it. Everyone at the table loved the french fries but since I am not really much into french fries, I'd skip them and order more empanadas. read more

The ambiance is loud so expect that it's just a very loud place. I wish it was a little quieter you have to speak loudly to hear the other person I didn't give it 5 stars because the rice was undercooked a lot. But the flavors were good ! I went to Pio Pio for brunch a couple of weeks ago and my family and I had a wonderful experience. Considering how busy they were for brunch, we were seated quickly and very comfortably. It's was a beautiful day so we were able to snag a table in their back yard. Such a beautiful area to dine. We were greeted by our waiter just at the right time. With ice water at hand, he was so kind and caring, asking if we needed any extra for our child (infant) Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. With several larger parties in attendance our party of three was never neglected by our pleasant waiter Pablo. Of course we went with the recommended Matador Combo ($39): 1 whole mama juanita's rotisserie chicken, yellow rice, red beans, tostones, salchipapa & avocado salad served family style. We subbed the salchipapa for more rice and switched the tostones for maduros. Happy we did because the rice portions were really small for a family style combo. In addition orders were placed for chicken empanadas (4/$16) to start and a pitcher of red sangria ($36). The food was very good with a few personally preferences. I didn't particularly care for the olives in the empanadas, the sangria pitchers were on the smaller side and the ice could be lighter. The chicken was tasty but slightly fatty and the avocado salad and maduros were on point. I usually opt for white sangria (red is not my thing), so at the end of the meal I ordered 1/2 pitcher ($18) of white (very small carafe). I must say that I really enjoyed the red and in-fact it was better then the white. I would return if planning a night out in Queens again however parking will weigh heavily on my decision when deciding if it will be Pio Pio or another. Pio Pio has always been my go to spot when I crave for their chicken. I'm not sure if it was the pandemic or how they were maintaining their chicken but it literally melted. 2 things comes to mind. It's old or it's been cooking and reheated for days. They use to have it perfectly cooked where the white meat was juicy and the dark meat is tender and soft at the same time. However, they asked for my name and indicated they would help get us a table when we showed up as it was Mother's Day and we had a fairly large group of 6 people. Pio Pio is very much alive and thriving even with COVID raging. On a Friday night, all tables were filled by 6pm and the space is spacious enough to where we were seated without a wait. There is more than enough space between tables to where it's tempting for me to get up and dance to their music! We ordered a Camarones Cuzco and lomo saltado (my favorite!). Both were amazing and I highly recommend. Although I will say, a tiny bit more rice would have been nice. We finished the rice before the meat! Camarones Cuzco is creamy and filling. The meat for the lomo was also super soft. Their famous green sauce is given in to go packets because of COVID. You can request mayo and ketchup on the side if you like to mix it. They're super generous with condiments, limes, etc. if you request it. Max per party is 4 people. I'd say this is a great place for date night if you want a large, bustling place to "get lost" in, as opposed to a quiet place where everyone can near your conversation lol. Also a great place for friends night/family. We ordered two whole chicken (one combo that comes with avocado salad and rice beans and one separate whole chicken, a Arroz Chaufa, a Ceviche Mixto and a Caesar salad. Waited more than one hour while drinking our sangria but no one came to ask us if we were ready, if we wanted to order, or if someone took care of us already. They were not even busy. Only 8 tables in the whole restaurant. They were looking at us, and nothing. All of the servers were standing up looking at each other and not doing nothing.
