I don't remember the names of the dishes, but it was all delectable and I found myself eating more and more of my leftovers throughout the day. Even at night I kept eating away. The location was very charming on arrival, and the server was very helpful with recommendations. The ambiance is intimate and charming, great for a catch up with friends or even a date. The sauces and slaw that came with the food were delectable! Especially the sauce for the calamari! Yum!!! I would definitely eat here again on a future trip to New York. Long time fan of Pio Pio. Truly believe it's always a good idea and getting the red sangria is a must. I took a random weekday off and remembered that they have a lunch special. Best deal in town! Quarter of a chicken (they ask if you want dark or white) served with a salad, your choice of side and a drink (soda or water). All for $16?! Delish!!! Came out so quickly! It's been years since I have stop by Pio Pio and in the last three months I had the pleasure to dine here twice. Happy to say both times were just how I remembered. Quick seating and fast service with really good food. I went with my go-to... Empanadas de Pollo: stuffed with shredded juanita's chicken. Always tasty but if I'm honest I can definitely do without the whole olives. Not a fan. Arroz Chaufa: Peruvian style fried rice mixed with chicken, bean sprouts, scallions, & soy sauce. With added shrimp for an additional cost. This dish always hits the spot especially with a heavy drizzle of the green sauce and washed down by a good passion fruit margarita. Pio Pio is where I discovered my love for Lomo Saltado. In my opinion it's one of the best dishes on the menu. It is flavorful, filling and delicious. The service is always pleasant and quick. I've never had to wait to be seated at Pio Pio 6. I also really like the addition of the lunch special, it's a really good price! As far as the atmosphere goes... I don't really feel like there is one. It's a pretty basic set up and doesn't have much character. Compared to the Pio Pio in Hells Kitchen, it's lacking. It's a little run down and but has the potential to be more suave. They have beautiful exposed brick which could assist in a dark, sexy intimate vibe. Their lunch special is totally worth it, for $14.50 you can get a quarter chicken with salad, and choose a side plus a soda. For the side, we opted for fried yucca which was a bad choice. Super dry and hard to eat. Of course had to get the lomo saltado but the filet didn't blow me away. For $32, it was definitely not worth it. I was let down!! read more

This is my second time at Pío Pío and I can say I'm in between about this place because they have the best juiciest chicken but the rice and beans was a big miss for me! The beans taste like they've just opened the can of beans and threw it on the plate it was cold and hard and the rice was still hard and raw. I came here with a small group of friends for a late dinner. The staff were able to set up a table for us right away, which I was grateful about. There was a chill vibe to the place. There wasn't that much I was interested in on the menu, because I had tried the chicken, tostones, rice and many other items. I finally decided on the Jalao dish, which was a plethora of fried seafood, including fish, shrimp, calamari, along with onion rings and yuca fries. This was also served with red onion corn salad. I ordered the small size, but it was a HUGE platter. The seafood was full of flavor, and I especially enjoyed the fish and shrimp. The fish was tender and flaky, while the shrimp was juicy and perfectly cooked. They both had a wonderful crispiness. Calamari was decent, though wasn't crunchy enough and a bit on the chewy side. The yuca fries were quite yummy. Everything tasted even better with the well seasoned, savory green sauce. The salad was a nice fresh element to the meal. Service was just okay. After I placed the order I thought maybe I should have ordered the 1/2. But after I saw the amount of fries I knew it was plenty of food. Unexpectedly, they have above average fries. Thick cut, perfectly salted, and tender. Now let's talk about the star of the show, the green sauce. It comes out before anything else does because it's not to be missed. Perfect accompaniment to the chicken. It's spicy but not overwhelmingly so. It's herby and bright. Delicious. The white sangria is also very good. Especially on a summer night. Refreshing. If I had a Ronco "set it and forget it" rotisserie oven I would have rotisserie chicken every week. But Pio Pio makes it into a nice treat with the green sauce you can't get anywhere else. read more

Considering how hard it is find to find a table on a Friday night without having to wait is a god sent. My friends and I started getting the munchies and we needed a place that serves decent food. After looking at a few places, they all said the wait was 30 minutes plus if we didn't have a reservation. Then jackpot, my friend stumble onto Pio Pio 6 and there was no wait needed. When we got there, the restaurant was packed but with enough empty seats so we got seated right away. We ordered their whole pio chicken with sides and there was so much food that it even gave us enough room for take away. As for service, the waiters were friendly and did not hover over us so the whole dining experience was nice. My only suggestion is that I do wish they had a little more light. I felt like I was sitting in the dark. Some candles would have been a nice touch. Though overall, my experience and tummy were satisfied so would I suggest this place. What a pretentious restaurant! With the white table cloths, one might expect a level of quality befitting their prices. The chicken was indeed very good, delicious in fact but it didn't come with anything so I ordered the fries. Big mistake. They clearly were not even fried - rather they tasted as if they had been sitting around all day and warmed in the oven. Awful! And when I asked for ketchup, they brought a container of ketchup packets like they serve at McDonalds. Really? For a restaurant with white table cloths? My friend ordered the salmon and what wasn't obvious was how the bottom of the salmon was burned. Any decent restaurant would not have served it. The sangria was more sweetener than wine. And our waiter certainly didn't ask how our meal was. I certainly won't be going back. I think they might have a bit of they became a less pretentious and more affordable chicken restaurant with really great sides. Been coming here for 10+ years. The food is always consistent! The service is amazing, very friendly. The place is clean as well. The Mixto ceviche was fresh, quality seafood and even better flavor. Really authentic food. The calamari was ok, needed more flavor than more salt. The tamarind pisco passion was so good! They don't skimp on the alcohol here. We were in the mood for something hearty and we decided to head over to pio pio! I've never had Peruvian chicken, but am always down to try something at least once. The layout of the restaurant is interesting... very open and what you see is what you get! But it's great for people watching, as I found some people in the booths working/eating, complete strangers deciding to spark up conversation with the table next to them, and big reunions happening all around us. It was so much fun being a part of that! The staff are funny and everyone has a bit of character. We ordered a few different things. To start the calamari, the palta rellena, and fried plantains. Calamari wasn't the best i've ever had... i prefer them crispier and with a little more seasoning, but it was good. Same goes for the plantains they weren't ripe enough for me, so they weren't as sweet, but they were still good. I'd opt-out of the palta rellena. It wasn't what we expected lol, and was interesting hahaha. For our mains we all got the Juanita chicken, and a side of rice and beans. That was absolutely delicious, but I thought the quarter piece was very small and i's opt to go one size bigger. And we had a delicious lemon sorbet to top the night off. Will be back! read more

My SO and I arrived on a weekday afternoon and it was about half-filled so we were able to get a seat pretty easily. We started off with a half pitcher of sangria which was nice and sweet. A great pair for the rest of the food we were to enjoy. We ordered the Limeno ceviche, Juanita's chicken, and some sides. They were pretty big portions and reasonably priced for NYC. They have lots of shareables which makes it a great place to come with larger parties. The service was great. The waiters were always around to help and make sure our dine-in experience was great. The ambiance was not bad. It wasn't anything special especially in comparison to the Pio Pio more south of this here which is much nicer looking. I came on a Friday night and it was unsurprisingly busy, but the servers kept things moving and kindly seated me after 10 minutes even though my friend was still on her way. We ordered a whole rotisserie chicken with sides of saffron rice and beans, maduros (fried plantains, soft and not crispy like tostones), and avocado slices; we were initially eying the Matador combo but figured it was too much food. The food came quickly and, well, it was still too much food - we definitely could have filled up on just half a chicken and our sides. The chicken was quite big and came quartered, and we each made a meal out of just a quarter. It was so succulent, the skin was seasoned well, and the meat paired wonderfully with the green spicy sauce on every table. I had previously been to the Hell's Kitchen location but found the chicken here even better. The maduros were the standout side, so toasty and sweet (like roasted marshmallows but more appropriate for a dinner table). The rice and beans and avocado (served with a lemony oil) were just as expected, but still helped to round out the meal. My friend and I cleared out the sides but ended up each taking a quarter chicken home, which I am very excited to make soup with. The prices are super reasonable considering that we overordered, and service was great throughout. This is a fun place to come with others and share a table full of chicken and sides - the chicken is super approachable for people of any palate, but the Peruvian sides and appetizers can give the meal a great twist that will satisfy anyone. My family and I frequent Pio Pio 6 a lot over the years. I loooooove their chicken. It's so flavor and juicy. We usually get seated right away and the servers move with such ease and quickly. It's also family friendly which is great because we have kids. So I never feel uncomfortable to dine with the family when we go there. It's a lovely restaurant where everyone is chatting away while eating there's no loud music playing so you don't have to strain to hear. At this visit we got Chaufa which I love just wish they had soy sauce to top the rice with. Great food, first of all. Prices are fair for the quantities, and the ceviche is a very large portion, bigger than any ceviche portion I've seen, and it was delicious. The friend brought me said that the chicken is the best thing they are, and it was very good- the skin was very flavourful. If you order three things for two people, you will have leftovers! This used to be a great place to go for rotisserie chicken, but I visited the Pio Pio 6 location on Amsterdam recently, and my experience was not very good. I ordered the half chicken with rice and beans. While the rice and beans were good, the chicken was served cool rather than hot. I picked at it but didn't eat much of it. It was also unusual that the chicken came out on a plate by itself, while the rice and beans were served separately. Perhaps it was because it was a large piece, but who knows? Additionally, the server didn't check on me, and I had to wave at him a few times to get his attention. I will most likely look for a better place next time. read more

I always love ordering from Pio Pio because I really enjoy eating Peruvian food. I have never dine-in so I am glad I was able to do that. Parking is difficult to find so allow yourself time for that. There is no outdoor seating area but the decor inside is pretty basic and clean. The restaurant is very spacious as well. The wait staff was professional and took our order in a timely matter. I haven't been to pio pio in a while. It was nice to come to this location. As always the food was delicious. For starters I got the chicken empanadas it came with a tomato sauce. I also used the green sauce it was bomb. Then I got a half chicken with saffron rice and beans. The green sauce on the chicken was delicious too. Staff was great and attentive and for a Tuesday the place was pretty busy. People were coming in and out ready for all the delicious Peruvian food. I have been going to Pio Pio (the franchise overall) for a few years now - mostly the one on Northern Boulevard. I came to this one because a group of 10 of us were in the city for a comedy show. Overall, the food is great . We ordered the typical lomo Saltado and their signature rotisserie chicken. The coffee was also excellent. Where this location really lacks is customer service. The waiters don't seem to care and we were neglected quite a few times. I'm hoping this is a one time occurrence because the other locations usually never had this issue. read more
