We got their mixed ceviche to start, which was very onion heavy, but overall the seafood was tender and good. For mains, we tried the lomo saltado, chicken Chop suey, and aji de gallina. While I liked the lomo saltado, the aji de gallina was my favorite - the chicken was incredibly flavorful, and the yellow rice and yuca fries were divine. I really teetered between 3 and 4 stars because I have such an attachment to this place (it's where my husband and I had our first date). I've been coming here for over 10 years, but after visiting twice in the past two weeks and once a few months ago, I've unfortunately been increasingly disappointed. The food and service just aren't what they used to be, while the prices have continued to go up. A few months ago, my paella, which I've ordered many times over the years, tasted off. I didn't say anything then because I figured it was just an off night. But then two weeks ago, my kids and I were served fried wontons that were raw/semi-raw inside. They did take them off the bill, but unfortunately we had each already eaten one before realizing. On our most recent visit last week, we sat for about 10 minutes before we had to get someone's attention to come over to us. We put our apps in and then nobody came back to take our order until the apps were coming out. The girl who brought our drinks had the wrong drinks. My soup was completely forgotten, and my son's food didn't come out with the rest of our meals. He ended up eating some of mine while waiting, and by the time his sides finally came, he didn't even want them anymore. The fried wontons on this visit were absolutely fine though and the food was delicious. I genuinely hate leaving three stars for this because this has been a favorite of mine for so many years, and I have a lot of good memories here. But after several disappointing visits in a row, it's becoming harder to overlook the decline in both quality and service. The servers used to be very attentive and friendly. The Broiled Pork Chops were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, paired with delicious fried rice and a fresh salad. We also ordered the Mixed Ceviche, loaded with fresh fish, squid, and octopus cured in lime juice with onions. It was bright, citrusy, incredibly fresh, and the perfect contrast to the heartier entrées. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and surprisingly quickly, even with the restaurant being busy. A huge shout-out to Carlos, who made an already great meal even better. He was attentive without hovering, knew the menu inside and out, answered every question, and made excellent recommendations. Service like his is one of the reasons this restaurant continues to earn such a loyal following. If you visit, definitely ask for Carlos. It's so interesting in NYC you can find truly any type of restaurant and Flor De Mayo definitely falls in this category. I think its so interesting how Chinese immigrants came to Cuba and incorporated their cuisine with local Cuban food. Came during lunch time to Flor De Mayo and was able to get a table for 3 very easily. - Chupe de Camarón - I saw a lot of people rave about this soup on Google Reviews so I decided to give it a try. At first glance, it looked pretty good and I had expected it to almost have a cajun broil like flavor profile but I felt like the soup lacked a bit of flavor and was a bit watered down - 1/2 Chicken, A La Carte - Becuase I wasn't sure if I was going to get my protein fix from the soup itself, I ordered their rotisserie chicken and I thought it was okay. Although the skin of the chicken had a lot of flavor, the chicken itself didn't really retain that flavor and was a bit dry. Surprisingly was able to walk in (wait was about 15 mins) with a party of 12 on a warm Sunday night. I don't know how they did it, but service was great and drinks were delicious! I was not super impressed by my food, however. I 'built my own dish' which came with a side of white rice. It truthfully didn't have any flavor, but I did eat it cause I paid so I'm gonna eat, y'know? I did try a little of someone else's chicken tenders and those were actually pretty good. From my understanding, they have a couple of locations and I was told that the food is very good. It is very possible that I ordered the wrong thing, but just beware. I've tried similar Peruvian-Chinese restaurants in the city which are very average, but I was pleasantly surprised by Flor de Mayo for its flavors and quality of the food. We tried the mixed ceviche (squid, fish, octopus), 1/2 fried chicken with plantains, and 1/2 rotisserie chicken with fried rice. I would highly recommend all three of these dishes. The ceviche was fresh, simple, and very refreshing; it's a small portion and meant to be shared as an appetizer. Both types of chickens were very flavorful and moist. I don't normally like plantains, but the plantains here were perfectly cooked, lightly fried, and sweet. I have been recommending this place to family and friends and can't wait to go back myself. Service: Service was excellent. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our water was filled constantly without having to ask them. Stopped by Flor de Mayo for lunch and had a mixed start - the maitre d' wasn't the most welcoming, though it may have been an off moment. Once we were seated, the experience completely turned around and service was excellent - attentive and friendly. When I mentioned that I used to come in college, the server seemed very excited. We ordered two lunch specials: fried pork chop and roasted chicken both served with salad and fries and yellow rice, plus tallarin verde with beef. The pork chop was a bit too salty for me, but my friend really enjoyed how crispy it was. The roasted chicken was a standout for me, especially the sauce. Tried Flor de Mayo in Manhattan and I have mixed feelings--but mostly good! Let me start with the food because WOW. I ordered the steak medium and it was absolutely phenomenal. So flavorful, cooked perfectly, and honestly one of the best steaks I've had in a while. I usually never finish my food, but this time? I cleaned my plate That says everything. My friends ordered different dishes and everyone was really happy with their food too. Everything came out fresh, hot, and well-seasoned. Definitely a place that delivers when it comes to the food. Now... the drinks We ordered what they call a "nutcracker," and I'm not even going to sugarcoat it--it was one of the nastiest drinks I've ever had. We ordered the Half chicken with plantains, Lomo saltado & Pepper chicken with fried rice. - The half chicken was delicious - the meat was juicy & fat nicely rendered so the skin was thin and a little crispy, but it was pretty salty, especially in areas like the wings, where its not that meaty. At the time there was no green sauce (!!) but was still overall delish! - The lomo saltado was my favorite of the day - perfectly seasoned and I love when the veggies still have their bite and not overcooked. the fries were still crispy when it came to the table but eventually softened soaking up the sauce. Absolutely delish and would definitely get again - The pepper chicken was not what i expected - the meat was tender but I expected it to be a spicy green pepper but the flavor was of green bell pepper. I can't visit the Upper West Side without stopping by Flor De Mayo -- it's been my go-to for nearly 30 years! Their Pollo a la Brasa is always juicy and flavorful, and I always pair it with the House Special Fried Rice. My food came out in about five minutes, and the service was just as great as always. I stopped by around 2 p.m. on 11/1/25, and it wasn't too crowded. The noise level was low, making it a nice, relaxed lunch. My server, David, was super friendly and attentive. Fun fact -- they serve 7UP! I don't know any other restaurant in the NYC area that does. Most places only have Sprite, but I'm a 7UP fan all the way. And if you didn't know, Flor De Mayo actually created the Nutcracker cocktail (Don Q 151, Southern Comfort, and Disaronno) -- it was even featured in The New York Times! I am amazed at how consistent this place is with the quality of service and food. The amount of people who come here speaks highly of how good the food is. I recommend calling if you plan on coming in a large group because everytime I've come here I've had to wait. The wait is worth it 100%. I came with my friends and as usual we enjoyed our drinks and our food but I will say this isn't the type of place where you sit around and talk without ordering anything. It's super fast pace and they're always trying to get everyone in and out (no rush though) because of how high the demand is. The servers are great. Attentive, helpful and will ask YOU what you want before placing their own opinions on you. I love that although there's a lot of people it's always clean and well organized. I barely know sugar from salt and my more attentive Yelp readers have caught on, realizing that I might spend three sentences on Buzz Bin music to reach a full paragraph. (Don't miss Everclear this fall celebrating the 30th anniversary of Sparkle and Fade). More to the point, there are some secret ingredients in this chicken. Nutmeg maybe? Like I said I'm not a food expert, just someone who wants to write two sentences about every restaurant in America or at least the greater tri-state American. But this is an impressive chicken interiors, not one of those situations where it's all about the skin. The sauce, sort of like pico de gallo, is stellar. It works well with the mixed fried rice. My first two Flor De Mayo trips, from years ago, took place after Beacon concerts. I need to come back more often. read more

My boyfriend and I found this place near central park. The food was pretty great and cheap. My boyfriend had two beers with the half a chicken and i had a martini with thin spaghetti. It all came out to around 60 dollars which we thought was pretty cheap. The waiters are very nice and helpful. And they have good music playing as well. Highly recommend it read more

I would've like to have the menu organized better or rather I would've liked accompanying photos with a few dishes or more of a descriptive breakdown of ingredients etc. for several of the menu items - given we haven't eaten Peruvian food often if ever. I have only had Peruvian twice and hated it the first time. This place made up for what I had the first time. The service was so quick and efficient and everything was brought out rather quickly. I had the Lomo Saltado and it was amazing. They have a huge drink selection and I went for the Mai Tai, perhaps not the best pairing for my meal but the drink itself was so good.
