DO NOT CALL PIONEER DOOR. It is no longer the same Pioneer Door -- the company was bought out by another company called GDI. Again, DO NOT call Pioneer Door expecting the same honest service and fair pricing they were known for before. I used Pioneer Door for over 20 years and always received great service and fair prices. Recently, my garage door broke and I needed help ASAP, so naturally I called Pioneer Door because they had always been my go-to garage company. Instead, a company called GDI showed up. They completely ripped me off. Yes, I should have shopped around more -- that part is my fault -- but the reason I didn't is because I trusted the Pioneer Door name and expected the same fair treatment I had received for decades. The technician convinced me to replace my opener with a LiftMaster 2420L. He told me it was a "$600-700 professional line opener" that I wouldn't find at Lowe's or Home Depot because it was supposedly a contractor-only model with special manufacturer pricing. That turned out to be completely false. After installation, I had trouble setting up MyQ and spent 3 days trying to connect it to Wi-Fi. While researching how to fix it, I discovered the exact same LiftMaster 2420L opener sells for around $350 at Lowe's, Walmart, and other stores. It's also just a basic opener -- nothing "pro line," upgraded, or special about it. So GDI sold me a basic opener for roughly DOUBLE the retail price while misleading me into believing it was some exclusive contractor-only model. I ended up paying $1,300 installed for a LiftMaster 2420L. After calling around afterward, I found out I overpaid by about $500. $1,300 is after me trying to negotiate the cost lower--they originally wanted $1,400 + TAX. Instead, they put 8 new caster wheels on and gave me an extra remote to make me feel better--until I found out how much I got ripped off. To make matters worse, they even installed the safety sensors incorrectly. The green light sensor should be installed on the same side as the wall control so you can easily verify if something is blocking the beam. I had to call them back out a THIRD time just to correct that. What makes this even more frustrating is that I specifically told the technician I was not prepared to spend $1,300 and thought I was only looking at a couple hundred dollars in repairs. He convinced me to replace my existing Marantec opener because he claimed parts from Germany were hard to get and that repairing it would cost more than installing a new opener. That is the ONLY reason I agreed to replace it. I did not upgrade because I wanted some fancy new opener -- I did it because the technician made it sound like replacing it was the most cost-effective option. I trusted the Pioneer Door name and got burned. The two technicians (Josh, Nick) who came out for the installation, helped with MyQ, and reinstalled the sensors also asked me to leave them a 5-star review so they could earn additional compensation. It's pretty wild that after trying to overcharge a customer, they'd still ask for a positive review to make extra money. I understand everyone is trying to earn a living, but it's frustrating to feel ripped off and then be expected to leave a glowing review so they can receive commission. Clearly, the concern for the customer's wallet just isn't there anymore. This isn't the Pioneer Door I've been doing business with for over 20 years. Time to move on to another shop. read more

I was called for my yearly maintenance service and presumed it was the same ownership which had always been excellent. Just like the most recent reviews said, Pioneer has been bought out by another company and they are not transparent about it. My appointment was between 11-1 and at 12:45 I contacted them as I had heard nothing from the technician. He called soon after and said he was in the alley and at like12:58 he showed up and said he wasn't late. He did not know why he was there but then after 5 minutes and a couple of recommendations he was gone-$79 for oiling up my door. I felt scammed. read more

GDI told me that they would have the same trucks and people which was a lie. I never received the text message confirming appointment or the 30 minute text message ahead of the technician showing up as stated. The vehicle was a GDI pick up truck not what they informed me would happen. I went ahead with the estimate, the technician was very knowledgeable; however, the price was double plus what every other company is charging. I asked the technician if they are able to set their price and receive commission on the price above cost and he said no, but obviously that was a lie. Advice to all, be thorough, get a few quotes, verify the product if you purchase one, confirm warranties, look at the box and confirm you are getting a new product and the product you purchase, ask to see their license, trust your gut and don't get scammed. read more

We painted the entire exterior of our house and our metal garage doors. The seals along the house/garage door frame had deteriorated plus the seals on the bottom of the two garage doors had cracked letting water into the garage during rainstorms. I purchased my garage door from Pioneer Door Covina 10-15 years ago. Other than minor maintenance, I had no issues. I called because the main center bracket supporting the main spring fell off on a Saturday. Unfortunately Pioneer door wasn't able to get back to me since it was a Saturday. I did schedule a service call online, but it was more than a week away. By then, the door was stuck. I could not get it open. Fortunately, Pioneer door was able to reschedule me for the following Friday morning, three days earlier than my scheduled appointment.. Sergio called and asked if he could come earlier. I welcomed him eagerly. Sergio arrived and analyzed the situation. He said the door came off the rails. With my assistance and the use of Jack, we were able to get the door open. Sergio recommended replacing the main spring, as it was probably 10 to 15 years old. I went with that service. $595, as readjusting the door and repairs would be a $350 service. I've used Pioneer Doors over the years, seems like our garage door springs last 5-7 years before needed replacement, we use our garage door a lot! In the past, Pioneer has replaced a spring under their 5 year warranty but we had to pay for labor and the other spring since it is recommended to replace both at the same time even if only one is broken. I don't recall there being much of a savings with the warranty. They only cover replacement labor within the first year, but warranty the spring for 5 years. 5 stars for Randy who came out today to replace the springs and was extremely professional and efficient. Prior to his arrival he called me at the appointment window time and told me exactly when he would be arriving. He even found a hinge on my door that needed replacement and checked everything out. Although every service call in the past has not been perfect, (last time the service rep was in a nasty mood-so much so I almost did not call them back), I stick with Pioneer for their reliable service. I recently ordered chamberlain garage motor from Home Depot and also purchased the installation too. The third party that was supposed to call me to set up an appt for installation went MIA. I called several times but couldn't get anyone and I had to escalate a complaint to Home Depot corporate to get my refund. I scheduled an appt with them and was told the technician Spencer will call to verify the appt. Spencer even called me 30 mins before showing up. The job took 2 hrs to do and I was charged $150 . Back in June, I visited Pioneer Door to inquire about getting a jack shaft style garage door opener installed at my home, which I was told was out of stock and would be roughly 4 weeks until they would be available. Fast forward to 11 weeks later and I receive a telephone call from Kim saying they are finally getting stock and I'm at the top of the list. At no time between June and September did I receive a phone call or email with an update on the status with my order, that there were additional delays being experienced, or what my available options were if I was unable to wait longer than the timeframe originally quoted to me. From a customer service prospective, I had a very poor experience here. I opted not to do business with Pioneer Door due to the fact that I would never do that to my own customers. If you are going to leave me hanging for 11 weeks without as much as a single phone call and then try to get my business, that's just not going to happen. I'd suggest making some customer service changes if you plan on continuing to get business from our community. I've been their customer for 20 years when they replaced my old, heavy, wooden garage door. The kind that had huge springs on each side My second door was installed due to a driving error by one of my daughters. Still SMH! My wife's as well as my own car are parked in the garage. Last Wednesday, my wife was going shopping in mid afternoon, but came back in--"Garage door won't open!" So me, the mechanical fool that I am tried to open the door- no luck. As a Vietnam vet, while many faults, panic is not one of them. But panic I did. Last year, my wife received a new kidney, which saved her life. Panic because she had a doctor's appointment the next day. Called Kim at Pioneer Door. Kim, along with her husband and daughter Burgundy are hands on owners. Kim was able to calm my fears and promised to have some one out ASAP. Within minutes I received a text from Spencer, one of their techs. He'd be here within 15 minutes. Upon arrival he got the door open within seconds. I found out later what I did wrong. He pointed out our problem- a broken spring on the right side of the motor arm. As he replaced the springs, it was evident that he knew his business and told me he was a Pioneer employee for over 20 years (I personally spent 26 years with one bank). His long time employment speaks volumes not only as to Spencer's expertise but also to the company's ability to retain such a valuable employee. Before he left, he checked the rest of the door and explained to me how to oil all the various parts, which he did. It has long been my belief that small businesses especially can can grow their company with a loyal customer base by providing amazing service, backed by expertise, stand by their products and work, and come through for you when you need them. To me, Pioneer Door is all of that. Thanks to Kim and Spencer my wife was able to keep her doctor's appointment the next morning and she is doing well. He quoted a price of $450 and when we said we were doing to get another estimate he left and called back to say it would be lowered to $350 was from San Dimas Garage Door So called PIONEER the next day and a service tech, Sergio, came out and looked over things and said we needed a new opener since ours was 10 years old. 2-15-2021 Nate & Nick came as scheduled to remove our old sectional wooden garage door and install our new insulated garage door, with the approved garage door opener. They introduced themselves, and they were wearing their masks in accordance with the guidelines set up because of the Covid virus. We had a great time, as I am a retired Carpenter Working Supervisor, I hung out with them as they did the demolition work and then as they did the new install. The work was done in a craftsmanlike manner, and we just had fun talking smack about anything that popped into our minds. When the install was complete, they loaded everything on their truck, swept up the garage, took pictures of the finished product for the companies records, they took the time to explain the workings of the new garage door opener, and the components of the garage door, and how to care for it, they also recommended a yearly tune up, which I wrote down on my calendar to remind us to do so. Oh forgot, I bought them donuts and hot coffee, I had a wonderful time talking with them and joking and clowning, this for me is great customer service for me. I highly recommend Pioneer Door Inc., my wife a retired Senior Purchasing Agent for the County of Los Angeles, had three vendors come down and give us estimates, they were all competent in this part, however there was something about Pioneer Door Inc. that was different, first they did not charge for the removal of the old door, which the other two did.
