Every real man loves to sweat. and that's why I love jimjilbangs. Normally, I go to Beach Spa. But I wanted to try something new. So I came to Pioneer because it's closer to my house. Beach Spa is luxurious. Pioneer Spa is functional. Yeah - you have you different tubs and sweat rooms. There's also a big co-ed area where you can socialize and what-not. However, the individual men and women saunas are not as big and nice. It's basically a locker room inside a gym. Showers, steam room, heat room, etc. They have overpriced Korean food for sale as well. Why buy food there when there are decent restaurants just outside in the same building? Now that Beach Spa is back to it's $15 fee, I'll save myself the drive and just go to Pioneer. You can buy a 10 pack for $120 = $12/per admission. Which is not bad. I like how the rooms have names on them as well as the temperature of the room. Very helpful. read more

$15 entrance fee for adults. You are given a bracelet-- with a number on it that is your designated shoe locker & clothes locker--, a disposable toothbrush, a small towel & a large bath towel, and sauna clothes for the sauna area (orange for men, pink for ladies, and green for kids). I've been here twice now with the family, and we all enjoy it! There are 4 hot rooms-- jade/gem, germanium clay, himalayan salt, and coral--, an ice room (basically a super air-conditioned room), and an oxygen room, which is just room temperature, but quite peaceful to lie down in. There is just a main lounge area in which people just lie down/ sit/ sleep/ read the plenty of Korean comic books that are available on several bookshelves/ watch TV. There's also a little nook in which there are two desktop computers for you to go on if you want. Also, free wifi. There's a little restaurant inside the main lounge area which you pay for food with your bracelet (you pay at the end when you turn in your bracelet back to the front desk). There's a variety of menu items-- from snacks like corndogs ($3) to actual Korean meals. Their patbingsu is yummy, and almost everybody gets it because I mean.. When you're at a Korean sauna, patbingsu is just calling your name, saying your sauna experience just isn't complete without it. So this was kind of a cultural shock for me, but when you get into the locker room, you may see lots of naked people. When you go in to take a shower in the shower room, they don't have individual stalls, but is rather like a traditional Korean public baths where it's totalllly fine to see each other naked. Seriously, it's super no big deal in there. Shampoo, conditioner, soaps, bath towels are all provided, so no need to bring your own! And okay, speaking as someone who REALLY didn't want to see naked grandmothers and other women or get naked herself, I would still highly recommend doing so.. Because after you sweat a whole bunch in the sauna rooms, you just don't want to be gross and NOT take a shower, you know? Anyway, I thought it was a nice experience! I love that this place is so close to home. It's a nice place to come hangout with some friends and just relax after a long day. I've only been to Beach Spa, so in comparison to that the men's sauna is a little bit smaller (only has one hot spa and one cold dip tub) and has one wet and one dry sauna. The coed area is bigger than Beach, and If i remember correctly, 4 hot rooms and a ice room. Music is played in each room. Very relaxing. Price is 15 Usually, and during Fri and Sat when it's open 24 hours, the price goes up to 20 if you want to spend the night/stay after 12. The massage chairs in the co-ed room are amazing after a nice sit in the sauna. read more

SO FUN This spa isn't overcrowded and an ample space where you can get comfortable to relax. It's fun to go here with your friends when you have nothing to do because they have so much to do! First time here. It definitely is different if this is not what you are used to. But when you go to places like this, you are going because you want to experience something new and different, and you can't grade it based on what you feel it should be because it is not meant for you. As it says on the sign, its an Asian Style Bath House. If that is what you want to experience, then you are at the right place. I have been to super luxurious spa's all over, and if thats what I wanted I would have just gone there. I wanted to experience something new and unique. Getting to whats important, cleanliness. The place is very clean. Inhibitions be damned though, if your not comfortable being completely naked in front of other people of the same sex, don't go. Only reason for 2 stars... It's clean, large, plenty of saunas, can eat there (although not really good food), all amenities given so just bring your face products and hair brush. Downfalls: crowded on weekends, no space to lay down in common area, have to wait for showers, rude owner! My kid is old enough to go. He was walking towards the women's locker room not realizing that's the women's locker. The owner yelled at him, "Hey! Hey! Stop right there! If you're going to run, then you need to leave." Run??? There's no room to run in the lobby. I was going to yell back at him but I had an appointment and didn't want him to mess with my massage (which I really needed after a long work week). After getting dressed to go to the common area, all I could think about was the owner yelling at my kid. It ended up ruining the whole experience. Beware: although they give u clothes for the common area, you will need to be naked for the shower area and locker room. It's really an Asian bath house so be ready to see lots of naked bodies. Very disappointed. This spa has been a regular place for me to relax. After traveling I decided to treat myself to a scrub (my regular) but I added a massage. The total cost was $100.00. Upon leave it tip $10.00. The lady and man at the counter said I should tip 20%. My response was that I just spend a $100.00 and I think you should be thanking me instead of asking for more. Who ever said I had to tip and how can they tell me it has to be 20%. I tip what I want. The service industries have gotten out of hand with their mandatory tip crap. read more

As most other reviewers have said, this is a smaller Kspa. And it is clean, clean, clean. Front desk check in was super friendly, even asking if I was familiar with the spa customs, making sure I would be comfortable. Very nice. On the men's side, one jacuzzi, and one cold plunge. Steam room, and large dry sauna. One table for scrub, and stand up and sit down showers. TV room with recliners and a sleep/quiet room. The co-ed jim jil bang wasn't too crowded, and I love the ice room, when ever a Kspa has one. Didn't try the food, but it smelled and looked good. Saw a few people using the computers in the corner, but I come to a spa to get away from all that. At $15 it's a great find. read more

Was recommended to go here by a friend. She paid less than me. I paid 100$ for scrub and massage. Scrub was great. But I asked for shiatsu massage and a women with lots of perfume who obviously had no experience started massaging me in a gentle baby like way. I asked for harder and she couldn't do It. So I asked for another person. She brought in Jennifer who did a great job "trying" to satisfy me but It was obviously too hard for her as well. She tried her best. It felt great but very tentative, like she might hurt me and was afraid. Then the massage was over. She never got to my front. I will definitely not go back and would never recommend. I've gotten better for less money in Korea town in Los Angeles. read more

Another ubiquitous Korean spa in Southern California. $15 for all-day access. There are several dry saunas in the co-ed area. The dry saunas are at different temperatures and have different things, such as Himalayan sea salt, clay, and minerals. The floors are heated and you lay down on the hot floors. I found this very soothing to my sore back muscles. The only negative I found was that I either had to listen to bad music or to loud gossip from Korean grandmothers. I just wanted to lie down in peace. The women's side had another dry and wet sauna, two spas (cold water and warm water, which is the same temperature as an American hot tub), an area for showers (standing stall and Korean style sitting), and a sectioned off area where you can get a Korean scrub. There's a small restaurant inside as well, but I didn't check it out. Also there were sitting/lying areas with television playing Korean dramas or the Korean news. I found this to be a perfectly adequate Korean spa. It's clean and has everything you desire in a Korean spa (sauna, spas, and scrubs). It's not as large as Beach spa, and a little more plain, but it does the required job. read more

I came here for the first time with my bf and I had such a good relaxing time. I am definitely coming back here. Entry is $15, give you a wrist band that will keep tap of what food you buy there, different rooms/sauna that can benefit your health and good service. The people there are nice and helpful. At first I was pretty nervous being there because it's like a bathhouse, I was self conscious about my body and I'm not Korean, but l later on I didn't care and I was only thinking 'I don't care I'm here to relax and enjoy myself!' Really unhappy with the service and staff here. I wanted to get my hair washed and get a body massage. I do not like scrubs as I don't like getting wet, so I booked a Swedish Massage, assured that I would not get wet (except for the oil). I was told by the young man at front desk that no service includes the washing of hair, so I went to a hair salon, spent $40 and an hour of my time to get my hair blown out. I come back to Pioneer Spa for my Massage and am actually completely drenched in body milk, the half naked masseuse's BO is in my face, then hosed down with water, and to top it off, my hair gets hosed and washed, which would have been perfect if I had not just gone somewhere else and had a blow dry. The staff did nothing to make things right, even though it was their fault for giving me the wrong information and wasting my time and money. read more

This place is my go to spa with my mom. We try to go every Saturday to release a week's worth of stress. I love the shower stalls because some places don't have them. Hot tub is small and not hot enough, although the cold tub is pretty good. Not too cold. I like both the dry and steam saunas. I tried the body scrub + massage a few times, and I loved it. As for the jimjilbang area, I love all the rooms. The common area is the perfect place to watch tv or play with my phone. The food is too expensive but okay. I love the coffee shaved ice! Yum! This was more like 3 1/2. I liked this place, I stopped by because I was working over in Cerritos. Its in a small strip mall with a tofu house and some other restaurants and things. Hours are until 11:30pm on weekdays. I got the scrub/massage and it was $70. The place has a hot and cold pool, steam room, sauna and jade room in the ladies area. The jimjilbang has a restaurant, clay room, gem room, ice room, oxygen room, salt and coral. Its a nice area but you have to exit the womens locker area to go to it (its like a 20 foot distance through the reception area). my scrub massage was good, the lady was pretty tough, lots of use of elbows. probably the most painful massage i've gotten but its not like i looked like i was complaining and i felt pretty good afterwards. Ive been to korean spas in SF, LA and vegas, and while it isn't going to be as big as like, Imperial or Wi Spa, it had a great variety of saunas and had all the basic amenities. Great local spa. Clean and not too crowded, just like I like it. I come often with my wife and kids and we normally will buy the 10 admissions for $100, which makes it $10 per person. Since we come often throughout the year this is a great deal for locals. They offer various hot and cold rooms, I prefer the hot clay room to get my sweat on and we hangout as a family in the jimjibang, common area where you can order food and read Korean comic books. They offer computers in the jimjibang as well but i wish they had a better wifi connection which is the only thing they need to improve. read more

Went Weds at 4pm .. not to busy except the shower area is so small it gets crowded fast!! $15 entrance!! I've been to a lot of spas in Korea Town. .. this by far has the best spa rooms: oxygen, gem, clay ball, Himalayan salt and Coral plus Ice room to cool down from the hot sauna. All these rooms are in the coed area with an overpriced food counter, tv and mats to relax. They have marble balls in one area to massage the feet next to the pay massage chairs. It was amazing 5 hours. Next time we want to be better prepared eat and nap. The women's wet area was the smallest I've seen. The dry sauna in womens area barely fits 3 people. It's ok. Steam sauna had nice herb but didn't say what. You must adjust the timer out side if you want it hotter. If you want private women sleeping area with tv us dark or lounge chairs.. So jacuzzi, steam, cold plunge.. Steam, scrub then get dressed in the spa outfit they provide and spend most of your day in the co Ed area!! Be careful and drink lots of water, besides dehydration you are detoxing. I am not sensitive enough to feel the gem vibrations but the coral room did activate my digestive system. My friend felt refreshed after the salt room.. Overall amazing day. We were wiped out. read more

I have been going there every year or so for a while to get the scrub! I usually get the scrub then go out into the common room to use the different sauna rooms. I went few days ago. Before my scrub appointment, I went into the hot tub, then into the sauna room. After my scrub was done, I felt stinging on my back. I thought it was just because my skin was sensitive. By the time I got home, I had a rash all over my back!!!!! This has never happened before. The rash is still there, I am using some medicine on it. Since I have never had anything happen before after the scrub, I am assuming that I caught a bug from the hot tub!!! The scrub lady was great! But I am now scared to ever go back or to ever recommend the place to my friends. I have sent them tons of clients! Ahhhhhhhh! read more

When I found this place on Yelp, I was like "Korean Sauna, in Norwalk? Huh???" Growing up in L.A. and having travelled around its different enclaves out of curiosity, it just didn't make sense. When I was in high school, I used to go out of my way with friends to the Norwalk Supersaver $2.00 movie theatre. The moviegoers were heavily Hispanic and Indian. South Asians, but no South Koreans. This spa truly lives up to its name, a pioneer in a very different urban landscape, 20 miles from its homeland. Rating this place was really interesting because it had the extremes of good and bad, with good being the victor, like pouring extra BBQ sauce on low-grade meat to make it taste better. One of the first things I noticed when I stepped in the men's locker was the clear signage for Koreans and non-Koreans. They must've hired a behavioral psychologist because it's very very precise. Also well lit, very clean, very organized. So I was like "Ok the meat looks good so far, now let me take a bite." "What the hell?" That was my reaction when I walked into the wet area in the men's section. While they have most of the standard amenities, it's the size of two living rooms, and the quality of the stone, piping and decor made it look like a public bathhouse. Everything is solidly built. It just looks too homely. At one point I experienced a moment of depression as I was sitting in the shallow three-person warm pool, and then a few more dark moments in the one-person cold pool. Yeah, I've officially become a low-end spa snob. I continued my rotation through the rest of the area, not knowing that the BBQ sauce would begin flowing... After changing into the orange prison scrubs, I checked out the sofa chair/T.V. room, bathroom, peeked into the pitch black sleeping room. Nice, nice, and nice. And then opened the door to the coed area. Wow! What a difference. Beautiful, spacious, warm, clean, and relatively quiet. The entire coed area competes at the same level as the ones in L.A. There's also a café that orders entrees from the restaurant next door, or makes desserts on site. And there's even a gymnastics (uneven bars) competition. Perhaps to keep non-employees out, the entrance/exit between the employee-side of the café to the coed area is locked from the inside, so when I was eating in the dining area, I saw the employee walk over to the side of the café where there's a high bar, grip it with both hands, jump onto it (MOUNT), balance (PIKE) and then jump down (DISMOUNT!). PERFECT TEN!!! I know, I'm easy to entertain. The meat was now drowning in sauce, and tasting a lot better. As the night went by and my emotions settled, the place really grew on me. On the drive home I looked up at the sky and the five stars started to line up in a row. Great price ($15.00!!), gallons of amenities, good food, open late, 24 hours on the weekends for an extra $5.00, clean, functional, peaceful. A little note on the parking situation. At night, the ladies may feel a little uncomfortable parking. The spots in the front of the spa are usually not available and you most likely will end up in the far end of the lot, which is somewhat isolated. There's a brightly lit, unoccupied private security booth accompanied by what appears to be an unoccupied security car, and I've never seen a uniformed guard. Posted on the booth is a grainy picture of some wanted criminal on a beach cruiser. Don't need to bring your Smith & Wesson, but please at least avoid burying your face in your phone as you're walking to your car. Pay attention to your surroundings! read more

Great place to come and relax. It's pretty small, and I wish they didn't leave the lights on super bright. Also, the employees are CONSTANTLY coming into the wet area to hose down the shower area and steam room. On the plus side they keep everything VERY clean, but it makes it difficult to relax with all the noise. Good price, no time limit. I really enjoyed all of the different mineral rooms that the spa has to offer such as the salt room, the Jade room, and the Clay room where you get to lie on thousands of tiny little clay beads. This, on top of the regular spa and sauna water therapy that you would find at any spa. Also, be sure to try the green tea shaved ice. read more

I went here on a Saturday late morning 10am - 11:30am. Paid $20 for 3 hours. My first time here and I enjoyed my time because not many people were in the men's area. This place has six standing showers and six sitting showers. The shower controls were good, from very hot to cold. There is a small cold tub which I didn't try. I spent most of my time in the very hot medium-sized hot tub. I was the only one in this hot tub so it was great. After going back and forth between the standing showers and the hot tub, I tried the sauna which was very hot for me. I was in this sauna for 10 minutes at a time all to my self which was excellent. I also tried the steam room which was also very hot for me but stayed in there for 10 minutes all to my self. So for an hour and a half, I went back and forth between the showers and the hot tub, sauna and steam all to my self so being completely naked with few men around was no big deal. read more

Came here to get our body scrubbed and i felt like a baby's bottom in the end. The ladies do a really good job and I'm doing my best to come here at least once every 3 months. I love that it's near my home and I don't need to drive to LA for the same experience. They don't have as many services, but that's okay for me because I don't use those services anyways. The price is reasonable. $35 for a scrub and $15 for entrance. But, if you spend $70 or more, it's free entrance. I will definitely be back for another scrub. read more
