The first time I called about getting a body scrub, a guy said that the price is $45, day pass included. And so I postponed my planned trip to this place, as there is a better spa that offers it at a lower price. After a month or so, I called again to make sure that I was given the right info the first time I called, the gal said $40, day pass included. And so I came here on my day off from work. The location is not that luxurious. The parking is limited. Oh and wait, did it say, 1 hour parking only? Yes. And was like, how am I going to get a rest and relaxation if the parking is only valid up to 1 hour huh? I entered the building, a sort of mini mall and the spa is located on the right. Upon entering this little Asian gal asked me if it was my first time at Pioneer, and I said yes. She explained me everything, saunas, services, and prices. Oh, I asked her about the 1 hour parking, she said it's okay, she meant, not really a 1 hour parking. And so I opted for the body scrub, and she gave me a pair of short and shirt, orange color, btw, and a locker key. Upon entering, you'll see mini lockers for shoes and the larger ones for your belongings, look for the number that corresponds your key number. You'll see that signs in English are everywhere, so you don't need to worry about the what, which, where, and how. You are expected to disrobe before entering the wet area. The wet area is small, though, it looks clean. You'll see the following; 6 standing shower stations, with glass dividers. 6 sitting shower stations. A tiny cold Jacuzzi A medium sized hot pool Steam sauna Dry sauna 1 scrub station In the men's area, it has a sleeping room, basically a dark room. Also, it has a lounge room, with 4 recliners and two large sofas, somewhat dark, with a Korean channel on. The coed area is so large, so clean, and so organized. It has many sauna rooms; -Oxygen Room -Gem stone room -Salt room -Clay room -Ice room The scrub is the second best scrub I've gotten ever. It was harsh, rough, and hard- I loved it. Note that scrub for men are only done by a man. So what!, right? The guy is good at scrubbing, he really scrub you everywhere. My 40 dollars was so worth it. I just wished they have a warm pool, more reclining chairs in the wet area, salt to apply in the steam sauna, a bigger cold pool and hot pool. Nevertheless, the place is recommendable. If you like being disrespected and like horrible service, this is the place for you. I wish there was a negative star option so that it gets the correct number of negative stars that they deserve (-5 stars). Not only were we disrespected from the entrance as we are paying, the store owner managed to piss everyone off by saying some rude comment to the customer. I am not happy with the service or the owners attitude towards customers who came to have a relaxing family time. I am no longer coming here and I'm going to make sure that everyone that I know are aware of this issue and take their business elsewhere. read more

Came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend after calling in for an appointment and asked if they did couple massages. I was told they did couples massages and body scrubs. When I arrive the gentleman at the front was arguing with another customer in a language I didn't understand. Then was rude to me, made me feel un welcomed and laughed and said they didn't do couples massages, wish that would have been clear when I called, wouldn't have drove down there. For a $15 admission fee, it's one of the cheaper Sauna/spa's I've been in both OC or LA area. The actual bath area isn't as big compared to the other ones but I really liked the different temperature room's that is co-ed and the wide open space where you can drink and eat food. You can relax inside the Coral Room, Himalayan Salt Room or Clay Room. Sitting in these 100+ temperature rooms are suppose to release bad toxins and circulate better blood flow in your body. Great place to come and chill for couple hours to relax. Highly recommended. For all Non-Koreans....you can't wear anything when going into the bath area. They give you a shirt and pants to wear for the Co-ed Sauna rooms. Enjoy! read more

I am a fan. And I'll tell you why, it's clean, it's not that big but that's okay because it gets the job done. It is definitely very small, but there are also coed areas, so I guess they make up for that in size and offerings. You literally can see all the rooms offered in one turn of your head. Off the locker room in a hallway towards the coed area is a dark sleeping room. there's a ceiling fan on a timer if you desire, a ton of floor mats and headrest cushions. Back in the locker room area , off to the side is a tv lounge with about 8 reclining chairs and a random korean news station on. I'm giving this place 4 stars because of the cleanliness and the atmosphere. It is a bit on the small side but it is cozy and nice. It can be a bit expensive - especially since I sometimes only pay the entrance fee to pay the additional for the body scrub. However, that is the rule and so I must abide. It's great that there is a place nearby and the place is always kept clean and tidy. There is a shared space for genders for the sauna rooms and it is also clean. That is the most important thing in my opinion for these types of places. read more

First time at a Korean Spa ever. Experience: - pretty welcoming, if small. - all amenities worked, however the cold tub is in desperate need of a thorough cleaning - lounge clothes are comfy - service is prompt - I got the $75 service which included the body scrub, cucumber mask, shampoo and massage with milk and oil. Overall, good value but the massage isn't worth it to me since they're basically rubbing you the same way they would with the scrub just without gloves. Also, it's on the same table as the scrub down so not very relaxing. - Susan is super thorough and doesn't bother with needless chit chat; do not go if you have open wounds or injuries. Lots of moving around I. A slippery area. Tips: - bring your own masks, toiletries, hair towel etc if you're not going to pay for a scrub - ask for an extra towel or bring your own, they are not full sized - be of the mindset that no one cares that you're naked, they're naked or nudity in general. However, remove said mindset prior to going to the coed area - schedule a treatment AFTER you've used all the facilities - I kept slipping off stuff since I was basically a well moisturized baby seal afterwards. I ended up not using anything in the coed room. -sushi place next door is pretty dope. TLDR; Go if you like being scrubbed like a baby piglet show enjoys watching your own dead skin melt away from your body and want the whole spa experience without paying a crap ton of money. I've been to many bath houses in Asia, and Pioneer Spa is certainly not nearly as fancy. It's pretty small, a lot smaller than Irvine spa (which I previously thought was small and minimal), but it gets the job done. The lady that did my scrub and massage was amazing, I think it was one of the best I've received. For those of you that have not gotten this service at a Korean (Asian) spa before, make sure you try it. For $75 dollars (admission included), you get: 1. Body scrubbed twice (semi-dry & very soapy) 2. Deep tissue massage for upper and lower body 3. Oil rub for upper and lower body 4. Face cleaning and real cucumber mask 5. They also wash and condition your hair while you are lying on the table 6. Head and shoulder massage 7. Finish off by a whole body milk rub 80 minutes total I was in a rush so I did not check out all the sauna rooms and common areas, I will be back for sure to check those out. Although it is annoy to have a sign to require 20% tip, the lady did my scrub deserved more than that, so I had no problem with the tipping minimum read more

This place isn't a luxury state of the art spa you may see more often now everywhere. It's a hole in the wall, authentic and original old school saunas from Korea. For those who can admire and appreciate.. I'm glad to see some still around. I'd drive atw 20mins to come here although we have closer spas nearby. Front guy whose the owner is very customer oriented and super nice accommodating! This place needs more recognition. Clean and has a variety of rooms to enjoy. Tub is small however does the job. I love coming to these types of spas. I have to say this one is much smaller than others I have been to, but it did the job for me during this pandemic. They were clean and very nice. It was nice because they are taking appointment only for spa use so it is very limited to the people in the spa. I am so greatful they were open. Pioneer Spa takes the crown for the best Korean Spa in the area. The place is huge and offers at 6 rooms: coral sauna, clay sauna, gem sauna, salt sauna, cold and oxygen. They also have a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and cold bath in the locker room. They have heated floors, plenty of spaces to lounge around, many other rooms for relaxing, massage chairs, in house dining, and all the necessary amenities. They allow you to stay here practically the whole day and night. Well worth only $15. By far my favorite Korean Spa for spaciousness, amenities and convenience. read more

Love a good Korean bathhouse! 1st time here and I had an amazing experience. The owner checked us in, gave us a run down of the place. We had the scrub and wet massage & it was soooooo worth it. I feel so clean and silky soft! I was weary based on some of the negative reviews, but it sounds like the owner got ahold of the situation on the men's side. The women's side was great. If you've ever had body scrub and oil message at Korean Spa, you know how good it is. I usually go to the Riviera Spa in Torrance but I decided to try Pioneer Spa because of a friend's recommendation. It was so much better and even cheaper than Riviera. I highly recommend a lady name Tina there. She's like 5 feet tall but so skilled and strong! Her oil and milk massage is excellent! It's a combination of shiatsu and sports massage so it can be a little painful but so beneficial to your muscle and very good for you. I would've given 5 stars for my visit but the facility is not up to my taste but the service is definitely thumbs up! read more

Place is a descent size, and has separate facility for men and woman. There is a section that's coed and must have clothing to wear (they provide). Wow I can't say enough good things about this place! Supppper clean, many different sauna rooms, semi private jacuzzis and friendly staff. I got a scrub and a massage and let me tell you it was the best treatment I've ever had and I get it done a lot. It was even better than the ones I've gotten in Seoul! I was very disappointed by the service that I received going to this establishment. The older man when I arrived was blatantly racist towards my friend and myself. I had been going to this establishment long before covid started. I recently went back and just shocked by the poor customer service. My friend and myself entered the lobby to pay for entrance the older man behind counter proceeded to ignore us while on the phone speaking in korean for a good 10 minutes while he proceeded to ignore us. This should have been the first sign to leave. We paid and he proceeded to wave at my face very rudely to a card on the counter which stated don't have sex with guys in the spa....I was like WTF????? I came to relax in a spa not have sex with patrons. Very rude insinuations by this man. I asked for a uniform and then was met with a rude finger in my face saying that I knew nothing about going to a spa and I never had been so humiliated....fyi im half korean.... its not my first trip to a korean spa. The minute I told him I was korean his whole demeanor changed. Highly disappointed korean or not.... his actions no matter who a customer is are rude and inappropriate and border on racist behavior. This is pretty much my home spa now. Unfortunately, they don't do overnight stays anymore. On Friday and Saturday nights they stay open until 1am. The end of an era. Still it's a great place. I recommend it highly. Buy a book of tickets so you can make an excuse for a spontaneous spa date. The staff all speak English so it's probably the only spa in this local area where non Korean speakers will feel totally comfortable with ordering food and services. Beach Spa is the next closest jjimjilbang and from my experiences, ordering food there in the past could be a bit difficult with the older Korean ladies. Otherwise you're either heading to Torrance or Fullerton. Pioneer Spa is a very predictable and assuring spa. Same people, same experiences every time. Which is a good thing when you want to relax and get away. read more

Nicely sized and pretty clean, and hygiene is very important to me. It is $15 for admission, NOT including scrub or massage. A digital bracelet that allows access to your designated locker is provided, so you don't have to worry about your own lock or key. You do have to go full nude in the shower area, also where the hot tubs and saunas are, but nobody is looking at you, and you're all nude together anyways. As a non-Korean person, I managed just fine, which is what some people seemed to worry about regarding language barriers. There are signs written in Korean and English and the workers there do speak good enough English to communicate. In the co-ed area, there are rooms regulated at different temperatures to meet their individual purposes' needs. All of them are above 100 degrees except for the ice room, which is what I like to save for last to cool down. I cannot tolerate heat under normal circumstances, but here, it is very soothing and my muscles become less tense. I always leave feeling soft, chill and relaxed. It is a nice place to come once a month or so, just to shake off some stress. read more

I CANNOT believe that just happened... I've been coming here consistently for a year now and have been sending all my friends here as well. NO MORE. Tonight I was all done with my spa night and beginning the last stage of relaxation, doing my hair. I blew dry my hair and proceeded to flat iron it (as I do there often). The scrub person, SUNNY who usually sits near the vanity by a small fan, walked by and shook her head repeatedly while shouting something at me. I told her nicely I didn't understand, and a younger patron translated what she said. "YOU BURN HAIR, YOU BURN HAIR! BAD FOR YOU BAD FOR YOU BAD FOR YOU!" Because of the language barrier, I didn't stop flat ironing yet (as despite the MANY rules listed everywhere ... one of which being "you may NOT wear a bathing suit" (?) I never saw a sign that says "you may NOT flat iron your hair".* She continued to say what she said earlier and turned the small fan onto me. Are you freaking kidding me???????? I was utterly embarrassed. And naked. I finally got the hint and asked her if I needed to do it at home and she nodded yes (assuming she knew what I was saying). I let the front desk person know and she was nice enough to let me know when I could tell the owner/manager as I was asking for a refund on my $100 (for 10 visits) tickets, to which I have $80 left. I refuse to set foot there ever again as it was super mortifying--and I don't embarrass easily. To add insult to (not really) injury, I left there hair half done and half frizzled. I am so upset about this specifically because of this uber rude thing that happened to me, but also because I really did promote this place to everyone I know. Sadly, now I will also be telling everybody about this place and how mortifying young women in the nude is their predilection. *BTW the front desk clerk told me there was no rule about using a flat iron and I shouldn't worry about her because she does that kind of stuff sometimes. read more

What a disappointment! Was charged $45 for entrance / scrub which was a high to begin with. The scrub, which was supposed to last 30 min, lasted only 20 at best. AT BEST! Finally, a manager scolded me in the changing area about drying off after I already had done so. I was sweating profusely after steam/sauna so I'm sure I looked a wet but he handled extremely poorly. After so many positive reviews, I would give it another chance for any one of these occurrences, but three strikes and your out! Go elsewhere. read more

On my most recent visit to OC, I went on a four spa, five day tour. One of the places this brought me is Pioneer Spa, the first Korean spa I'd visited in the area for a return visit. Pioneer Spa is solid; it's no frills, and smaller than some spas in the area. With that said, it holds its own in the two components: the unisex, sauna/steam room/pools section, and the co-ed sauna/snack bar section. As far as the unisex section, the big story is the steam room. Simply put, Pioneer Spa has the hottest, most steam producing steam room I've ever been in. Set with a 5 minute timer on the wall, the steam room doesn't appear extraordinary from the outside. If you turn the dial to 5 you will be treated to a singular experience where the room literally disappears in a fog of steam; first the signs go, then the people in the room go, then the door goes, then you think about getting up because it's going to take a few seconds to find the door. On my most recent visit I was steaming in this room for 3 minutes, and a guy came; he sat down in silence for a few minutes. I eventually coughed on the thick steam and he said, "I didn't know there was anyone else in here". It's that steamy, and if you like steam rooms this alone makes it worth it. In terms of the coed section, the stars for me are the variety (unusual rooms like the Coral room and an Oxygen room) kept at ~130 degrees, as we as a great Red Clay room (I prefer rooms with actual red clay balls you can lie down on). With a price point of $15, Pioneer Spa is a pretty solid bet for folks in the area. read more

Every real man loves to sweat. and that's why I love jimjilbangs. Normally, I go to Beach Spa. But I wanted to try something new. So I came to Pioneer because it's closer to my house. Beach Spa is luxurious. Pioneer Spa is functional. Yeah - you have you different tubs and sweat rooms. There's also a big co-ed area where you can socialize and what-not. However, the individual men and women saunas are not as big and nice. It's basically a locker room inside a gym. Showers, steam room, heat room, etc. They have overpriced Korean food for sale as well. Why buy food there when there are decent restaurants just outside in the same building? Now that Beach Spa is back to it's $15 fee, I'll save myself the drive and just go to Pioneer. You can buy a 10 pack for $120 = $12/per admission. Which is not bad. I like how the rooms have names on them as well as the temperature of the room. Very helpful. read more

Super CLEAN...Super nice front guy. I am coming from LA. Entrance fee $15 cheaper than LA- more tgan $20. most I like is that there is no take shoes on. There is shoes locker in front of sauna entrance like Korea. I am living with white American guy so sometime take shoes on in home but I hate that take shoes on spa. Great atmosphere too. I don't like jimjilbang so I just use spa but super clean and people use it clean too. They (Korean Ajumma) know rules and manner. read more

This was my first time going to a Korean spa. I was a little nervous because of the dress code and I don't speak Korean. But I went with some friends who did, so it was just fine. We went on a week day which is a good idea. I heard that it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. I must say, it was really relaxing and everyone there was nice. So first you have to get a digital key bracelet to your locker and they give you two towels and a baggy shirt a shorts to wear in the co-ed room. At this point it is divided between men and women. The next small room is where you put your shoes in your locker. In the next room you have a bigger locker where you remove all your clothes at put your belongings inside(yikes)!! It really wasn't that bad though. Everyone is polite and no one stares at you. Then you go and shower off. Shampoo and conditioner are provided, along with soap, but I would bring my own soap as everyone shares the bars. After you go into the wet sauna, steam up, then go back to shower off again and scrub off the top layer of your skin. After you can jump in the Jacuzzi, or put on the clothing provided and go to the common room. The common room has massage chairs and mats to lay down on the heated ground, and you can also purchase food. Everyone is quiet and TVs on mute. There are several side rooms you can go in at this point to relax. Rooms with heated marble floor, heated salt floor, floor of heated marbles, and a cold room that you go to in between. Really relaxing and gets the circulation going. Next back to the showers, and they provide hairdryers, combs, hair products, and tooth brush for you to use. My skin was as smooth as a baby's butt by the end. I will definitely be going back. read more
