I want to talk about the service and how Devon is terribly seeming disappointed in his non deserving of good American Tips or if he has a guy up his butt because he doesn't offer any ANY ANY ANY ANY customer service and as a Customer Service Supervisor, I want "Devon" to still understand I'm still never tipping you for no salutations. Devon, you act like a child when you work. Too flamboyant and 20% of people would come back, if he was gone, for good. If Devon gets upset at this truth, let him know, tipping isn't obligatory and it's based off gratitude and gratuity of the service provided. Shit service with Devon, every time. Hi buddy, it's time to be a better host. 5 stars for the bar and other employees and Devon stands out like a sore thumb. Terrible quality of a bartender. This is such a fun place to stop by and or hang out. They have a full bar downstairs with seating and food. Some of the food is a little pricey but the portions are huge I find it quite worth it. They often have performers, trivia nights and djs downstairs. There is also a club and small bar upstairs via stairs outside and inside, for bigger events with lighting and awesome edm performers. Everyone here is great and an overall friendly atmosphere! Would recommend! read more

So happy this place is back open and super impressed with the remodel. It's beautiful in there now! This place is realty great if you want a local pub feel without all the pretentious vibes you'll get from a lot of these bars on main street. Murphy's is a great place to go have a drink and just relax. After the most recent remodel the place is really nice and really well done. Worth a visit. The bartenders were all really nice women that made nice drinks. The well vodka is Reyka as well so that's a nice well. This place is worth a shot. read more

We used to come here when it was Murphy's, our favorite dirty dive bar. We were so surprised when we walked by and saw it was a totally new bar so we decided to try it out! The floor was new, no more green carpet which was wonderful. The bathrooms were nice too. The bartender told us that upstairs became a club at 9pm so we decided to check it out. Pretty small but had cute decor and the DJ was playing great songs! Not the place to go if you're looking for a vegas club but we had fun. We will be back! read more

I was in SLC on a business trip and decided to stop here for some food and it was delicious! The servers are not overbearing and I loved that lol they only really spoke to me when it was necessary and I enjoyed the peacefulness. The food was good! I got the nachos and a drink to pair and I was very full afterwards. This place was only a 2-3 minute walk from the Marriott where I was staying and I'm glad I got to try it while in Utah. We actually went to this place twice on Sunday and love the ambience and feel of the place. The staff they were great to include the owner. Sunday they were hit with quite a big rush because there was a Mamosa run going on between several of the bars that was not communicated to them. The bar ran out of champagne, but the owner hustled and came up with alternative solutions to take care of customers. We really enjoyed spending time there. When she ordered it was short answers like yep and no eye contact. After having to be tracked down for service multiple times we had to leave as we had a show to attend at Eccles Theater across the street. My friend never got her food. not sure the order was ever put in. Over 45min for a chicken wrap And others were being served food. Total BS! My husband and I came here on Valentine's Day. Service was great. Prices are good and reasonable. I did like the updated feel. However, I felt like for an Irish pub, there should have been a bit more decor and warmth throughout. Walls were bare. A little more eclectic feel would be easy to bring out here. The lights are way too bright, where I sat (a booth) the bright bulbs were right in my eyes. It Really is a beautiful place to swing in for a drink though, and I will return. read more

Murphy's Bar and Grill is s stone's throw from downtown Salt Lake City's "tourist central" and a welcome oasis of alcohol. Because of the steps that lead down to it's front door, it bills itself as a "Step down in Social Clubs," something that couldn't be further from the truth. Because of Utah's draconian liquor laws, Murphy's is also a drinking establishment that requires a $4.00 membership fee upon entry. But that's alright with me, since only one person has to pay the toll--even if you descend the steps with a large group. They card everyone, following the letter of the law. "ANOTHER Texan!" announces the guy checking IDs at the door, as he peruses my driver's license. No doubt there's a herd of expatriate cowboys out here looking for a place that they can throw back a couple of shots of Jack Daniels and forget how much they miss the Lone Star State ... Word ran around the room faster than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs and a few minutes later, a guy two-steps up to our table and introduces himself, flashing a grin bigger than the smirk on a Texas Jackalope (a mythical, horned, giant rabbit creature of Texas lore). It's as if we just traveled to Alpha Centuari and met up the only other human inhabitant. This guy is ecstatic. "I'm from Texas, too," he explains, lifting his shirt sleeve up above his shoulder to reveal a big tattoo of a horned cow skull with the town name of Shiner, Texas emblazoned below it. "Yup!" "Yessir." "Mmm Hmm." We all nod in approval and swig Texas-sized gulps from our glasses of hootch. You know, Shiner is where they make the world famous Shiner Bock beer, a dark German/Czech-style beer that's like Kool-Aid for many a Texan. But beer and cocktails isn't the whole rodeo here. Making new friends is what Murphy's is all about. It's a place where you're bound to meet anyone. People come there to have a good time and to break free from the constraints of the town's tea-totaling mores. It's a great place to let your hair down, too--even if you happen to have braids as long as Willie Nelson. This place saved me. I went for a quick bite after getting off a plane on a Sunday afternoon and checking into hotel, and lo and behold, nothing's open in SLC. I stumbled into this lonely open place walking down Main Street and they had a nice turkey swiss avocado sandwich that really hit the spot. Another hit was a local bottled IPA on the beer menu, Hop Rising from nearby Squatter's Brewery, that was $5.5 for 9.0% alcohol content. What a deal and yay!, what a nice late lunch that was. read more

Really nice bartenders who were observant, fast , and very customer service oriented. This place has dart boards which is a fun part of this particular bar. They had shuffle board and super loud country music playing. Also, my friend and I noticed they had carpet, not something found in a lot of bars. We didn't come for dinner, rather we took the night shift. We left a little after 1 and were really the ones who closed it down. Great bar, would definitely recommend coming in for at least one drink!!! read more

The best thing about the bar was the cheap beer and the group of 8 women who came dressed up in Christmas outfits having a good time. I am an idiot and didn't even realize Murphy's served food. I guess when I'm there I'm too busy throwing back Jameson to notice food. This bar is great for groups. They have really long tables and large booths that can accomodate lots of people. For this reason alone, Murphy's is usually a go to spot when we're throwing a party but aren't in the mood to have it at someone's house. In fact, I had my post Wedding reception party at Murphy's. Drinks are cheap, they have a great selection of beers and more importantly SCOTCH AND WHISKEY. I love that I can order a shot of Macallan 12 right after my shot of Canadian Host. They are also one of the few bars I've seen that serve absinthe. While it's definitely not with Wormwood, I like the novelty of even having it available. Love you Murphy's. Thanks for letting my get away with dancing on the bar because it was my wedding night. read more

Hands down one of the BEST Bacon Blue Cheeseburgers I have had in Utah! Murphy's has a new Chef and kitchen staff which take pride in delivering and executing freaking awesome above and beyond dive bar food! I literally teared up when I took a bite! Not only was it a long shitty day, this baby transported me to a life in a warm and cozy blanket, holding my head high and letting me know all will be alright! Perfect balance of bun, meat, seasoning and high quality blue cheese with fresh hot and crispy bacon! Can I get an Amen! If the rest of the menu is this good, definitely will be visiting more often! And this is not just for the food! The bartending and wait staff here are absolutely amazing; courteous and friendly, ready to care for your drink and spirits need! Murphy's used to be my favorite spot to hang out and grab drinks before a night on the town. The atmosphere was fun, divey, and they always had good music playing. I haven't been able to visit since pre-pandemic, so I was very excited to return. First, the remodel was a surprising disappointment. They went for a played out, "Restoration Hardware" motif that sucked the life right out of this once a very charming bar. Second, drinks used to be reasonably priced, and last night paid $9 for a shot of well whiskey... Third, none of the staff was wearing face masks! Preparing food and serving drinks without face masks is a major no-no, especially in Salt Lake City where COVID transmission rates are through the roof. Forth they didn't have any music playing and they got rid of their jukebox and dartboards. It felt like I was in a weird shell of what used to be my favorite bar. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

Step down into Murphys for the classic old Irish pub experience. Nothing fancy going on here, but that is why you want to stop in. Far fewer beer selections than up the street at Beer Hive, but the prices are also cheaper. It seems to mostly be full of locals sharing a pint and conversation. Bartenders are nice. They have a shuffleboard table but it was covered up the night I was there. Not sure if anyone plays it much. While sitting at this bar (underground) it makes me wonder if this place was one of the original drinking club establishments that you had to have a membership at before Utah laws changed. read more

Murphy's averages 3.5 Stars, which is about where I'd rate it too after stopping by for dinner and a drink. It was a Friday evening and I was suprised it wasn't busier with only a couple of tables occupied and a number of empty stools at the bar. I grabbed one for myself and looked over the two page menu, honing in on the Fish & Chips. The two female bartenders, whose name tags displayed, what I believe to be last names instead of first names for some reason, were helpful and busy tending the entire bar and tables. As I waited for my meal and enjoyed a local brew, I started up a conversation with a gentlemen to my left, who I soon found out was actually one of the owners originally from G.B. His accent pretty much confirmed that fact for me immediately. Once the F&C arrived, the convo died down at I dove into the three large pieces of deep-fried cod with a delicious tarter sauce and numerous fries, which I doused with vinegar. In the end I left a few of them on the plate after filling up with a weekend's dose of grease and calories I don't even want to think about now. No worries, I'd do it again. Murphy's is *the* neighborhood bar for downtown. Regulars are colorful, if a touch slow, and beer is beer, right? If you find alcohol not stimulating enough, you can throw some crappy plastic darts with broken tips. The food is pub food, you're not going to go hungry, but don't expect culinary miracles. The bartenders are the real reason to come back. Great interactions with the new and regular customers. Always working hard to keep us supplied with our liquid drug of choice - alcohol! Beer selection is solid between taps and bottles. Don't look for blender drinks or other TGI Friday's shit. Whiskey selection is very good. GREAT place to drop into downtown. And if the metro train is convenient for you....there's no need to drive! Long and narrow inside ...I was there on a Thursday night and it wasn't that crowded, but I imagine it gets a little packed inside on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Plenty of comfortable seating, a long bar with lots of stools...some booths in the back, but mostly "pub tables" for groups of 4-6. We were a group of 12 and they had no problem with us moving two of the tables together to make on big one. The tap-beer selection is a little weak...but they make up for it with a decent line-up of bottled beers from all over. I love Lagunitas IPA (brewed in beautiful Petrauma, CA) and it was in good supply. Good selection of whiskey (and whisky) to satisfy that "shot and a beer" urge. Friendly bartenders, good service,,,,I didn't really order any food, but I stole some of my buddy's nachos ant they were pretty tasty. And the coup de grace which landed this little gem of a pub their fourth star? A nice (although a bit short) shuffleboard table!! I'm moving out of the downtown area in two-weeks.... but I have a feeling that I will find my way back to Murphy's !! read more

I can't even explain in words how much I love this place. DARTS!! REALLY CUTE BARTENDERS THAT I TRY NOT TO SHAMELESSLY FLIRT WITH!! GREAT ATMOSPHERE!!! Everything is such a good price. You honestly can't beat it. And I really like it when I go to a bar and can say "Make me something delicious with fruit" and they don't even judge me. Truly the best kind of bartender.
