My Roommate and I visited here mid-January since we are looking to move to the "downtown" area of KC from Olathe, KS. We liked the loft style they offered and the higher up you were the better the view seemed, which was nice. However, for the 2 bed 2 bath version the secondary bathroom didn't have a vanity, just floating sink, which offered minimal storage along with the Washer/Dryer being in there as well, which isn't so great. But we decided we would make it work and applied. We were told that the Application Deposit was refundable if we changed our minds, however we were not told (until later) that it was only refundable for 3 days after we applied. After applying we were sending them our proof of funds, and this is where things took a turn. The leasing agent we were dealing with didn't seem to know or understand much of what you would think her job would require. I was told that I could send in my 401k statement, my most recent tax return, paystubs, or a letter from my employer. When I said I would send them my 2018 tax return I was told that it wouldn't count because it was too long ago (mind you this is mid January 2020 and you can't even file your 2019 tax returns until Jan 27th). Okay so 401k then, I sent her a copy of my account with my name and the balance, but blocked out the account number and the percentages of how much is for what because it was unnecessary information. Well apparently this wasn't good enough either, they wanted more information. When I expressed concerns about giving them more info because they already had my full name, birthday and SSN which could pretty much give you access to my accounts I was told that "we wouldn't do that" (as in steal my identity/money). Which is fine unless they get hacked. But she then proceeded to get frustrated with me and told me that what I sent her could be something I just made up in Word (basically calling me a liar) and that they (Piper lofts) and I quote, "have gone above and beyond for me and been more than accommodating already." Personally, they hadn't done anything for me but give me trouble and frustration. So she ask me to have my broker send her and email verifying that I do in fact have the money I claim to have, so I do. Then she wants to know how much I get monthly from my 401k, if you know what a 401k is you know that you don't get a monthly stipend from them, which is something I would expect a leasing agent to know. I also want to mention that my roommates pay stubs showed that she alone makes enough money monthly to cover the 3x rent required to rent there. Then when it came to having an emotional support animal they wanted to be able to contact my doctor, which I'm pretty sure is a HIPPA violation, as the letter I have from my doctor should be adequate enough. So after having these issues and we express our concerns to one of the other leasing agents about the other one being rude (ie: calling me a liar and claiming to have been going above and beyond for me etc.) I was simply told that she is "sorry to hear that, and it sounds like it was just a simple miscommunication." Pretty sure, it wasn't just that, because it really felt like the agent was getting all up in my ass that I was waiting for them to ask for a colonoscopy or stool sample before we moved in too. SO with all of these issues we decided that if someone is that rude and incompetent while trying to get us to move in, what will it be like once we actually sign the lease. We tell them that we are no longer interested in living there and if we could get back our deposit (with we were told was refundable) and this is where they tell us about the "3 day rule" which was never mentioned. Needless to say, our experience with them was a bad one, so if you're looking here you should be prepared for a full body cavity search. Also, they told us they do apartment checks quarterly or at least bi-annually. So even though they clearly don't trust you, the tenant, you should just trust them. read more
