For sure this is one of the more unique Chicago breweries. It doesn't have a taproom, only to go bottles and cans. Pipeworks isn't a gathering place like many breweries that have a taproom. Just a place to grab a few. The beers can be found in many bars but get a few of the less common ones on site. Beware this is just a place to pick up a few beers to have later. It has a room to have a few samples but it's not open as much. The beer is most often sold in four packs. It's about $12, which is a pretty good deal for a few microbrewery beers. Last time I picked up a few packs. Because the sampling room isn't open anymore I just bought it and left. The first was A Foolish Wit. It's a Belgian style wit ale. There were notes of amchoor powder, coriander, orange peel, and sumac. One pack of course wasn't enough. The other one was the Ninja Vs. Unicorn. It's their double IPA. This one was pretty strong. Be careful. This is stronger than it looks. Can be quite an adventure to get here. It's off Pulaski on McLean. This isn't far from Orkenoy and the 606 bike trail. read more

Don't get a chance to go down to the city very often. Since I was in the neighborhood, I decided to make a trip to this brewery and stock up. Got an assortment of their beers which include Ninja vs Unicorn, Paper Pilot, Infinite Citra, Paper Pilot and few others. You actually go The Dojo and select your beers of choice. This is not like other microbreweries where you grab a table to sit and drink. I had my wife fooled as she thought we would spend some time here. Another great Chicago brewery! Steve and I delved into one of their beers here, the Fluffo Sando and was highly impressed with this stout! All sorts of complexity in flavor with this beer which made it such a fun one to drink. What are some of the ingredients? Caocao nibs, peanut butter, vanilla, lactose and marshmallow. All these things gives this beer a S'mores-eque kind of flavor with a nutty influence. So very fun to drink and would love to explore more beers from this brewery which I'm sure are wonderful! read more

Visited this beauty today. Honestly one of my favorite breweries in the Chicago land. Vast creative selection and tantalizing flavor combinations. The "Hey man there's a beverage here" is a white russian imperial milk stout and it is one of my favorite brews. After introducing it to my friend he went to binnys the next day to buy out the rest of their stock. Their beers are mostly sold in bombers and are always in rotation. So if you find something you like it would be best to buy a couple because it might be awhile before they brew/release more. Up until last week, Pipeworks was strictly about brewing from this facility but now...they have opened The Dojo! This is strictly a bottle shop though they offer 1 oz samples of their brews. It is not a tap room by any means and is simply for purchasing their bombers & cans. Important to understand that before visiting the brewery. The Dojo opened on December 29, 2016 and I stopped in today (day 2), just in time to pick things up for the new year. I imagine they will have rotating things for sampling and rotating bottles in the shop with some staples like Ninja Vs Unicorn or at least some variant of that. They also sell some cool Pipeworks merchandise like sweatshirts, t-shirts, barware...I am going to pick up a $5 pint glass next time I'm in. Their beer is sold both in bombers and some 4 pack cans with a really good selection to choose from. Prices are on par with Binny's but Pipeworks prices shown are including the tax which is a respectable savings over the liq chain. And Pipeworks' sour beer bombers were significantly cheaper than Binny's, they were $6 inclusive of all tax! They only take credit/debit cards, but really who carries cash anymore? All that being said, I walked away with 2 Cranberry Berliner (a steal at $6 each), Mango Berliner ($6), Holloway ($6), Mud Monster ($9) and Barrel Aged Jones Dog Fall 2016 ($16). I'm so happy with all my purchases, even drinking one sour while I type this up. Guys in the shop are all well informed and friendly, super chill vibe and the Brewery Cat was being wheeled around in a wagon like royalty as 80s songs blasted. Loved seeing the inside of one of my favorite breweries in Chi City! Can you guys please open a tasting room!? I'll love you fo' life! If you love Pipeworks beer as much as I do, you're going to flip over their bottle shop. Honestly you can never get bored with Pipeworks because their beers are constantly changing with a few staples that are so incredibly delicious. They list most of their offerings at the Dojo on their site but be prepared, they have more for sale once you get there in person! I haven't been here but I have tried many of there beers, and damn I must say with most breweries there's only maybe 1-2 beers that i think are a hit, but every single beer I have had so far from Pipeworks is good as hell. They give FREE beer samples of usually at least 8 to 10 different beers! Its a small pour, but its enough to help you decide what to buy if you are unfamiliar with their beer. For that reason alone they get 5 stars. I have been to several other breweries that sell their beer and many of them don't have samples, or if they do its 1 or 2 beers, and often you have to pay. F that noise. The guys behind the counter are always friendly and the shop sells sweet shwag. Plenty of parking outside in the lot. I honestly can't think of anything they do wrong. Do you know the hunt we've been on for this beer? Seriously. We've called every place that supposedly has it in stock and it sells out within minutes, hours, etc. Went to a bar in Chicago that was supposed to have it. Asked for it at the bar and she LAUGHED AT ME!! She said come on now, we sold out of that in an hour. Pipeworks is creating a crazy demand and aren't able to brew fast enough to keep up with it. We finally found a bottle of Ninja vs Unicorn at our local liquor store. They only had two bottles left when we called this afternoon. My husband begged the guy to save a bottle as we've started a state wide search and almost put out an APB. He said he'd hold it for us. We were starting to think that it was easier to find a real unicorn than the Ninja vs Unicorn beer. One sip and my life was changed. Okay not quite, but this shiz is pretty good. It's probably the smoothest beer ever, and I believe that non-beer lovers would even enjoy it. I wish they would open their tap room or that people would stop buying it so we could actually obtain it easily. This IS one of those things that I would drive state-wide to get. "Great" doesn't even begin to describe the sheer deliciousness of this beer. read more

I've always enjoyed the beer here. Living practically across the street is exciting because we can always stop over for samples or new releases. Their mailing list and Facebook pages are chock full of information about their releases and new brews. The actual brewery is not open for tours but their little bottle shop offers a view of some of the action. They are not allowed to sell beer for consumption in the shop but they can give you samples before you buy and they always have a lot of cold bottles and cans for purchase. Oh, and there are two lovely kitties who hang out in this bottle shop! They are super cute and one of them really loves pets. They both just kind of slink around and lay right on the counter in the way of you trying your samples and making purchases. It is a-dor-able. Honestly, the cats are my favorite part of any visit to Pipeworks. read more

Great beers! I tried their Foolish Wit on draft at Division Ale House, 1942 W Division Street. Has a bad ass handle! They also had "At Her Majesty's Pleasure" in bottle there which was very tasty too. Bartender told me there are not too many places where you can get this stuff but they do their best to keep it stocked. read more

A couple of updates on this promising young microbrewery, which has become a Chicago favorite of mine: 1. For package availability, I noted the other day that Fischman's Liquors at 4776 North Milwaukee carries a large selection of current Pipeworks lines, the most I've seen in one place. 2. I tried another of their products at the Map Room yesterday, Orange Truffle Abduction Imperial Stout: a wonderful, rich high-octane brew. The orange shows up mostly in the nose, with the taste, for me, more reminiscent of chocolate cherries. One 22-ounce bomber of this stuff goes a long way! Still no public tap room, unfortunately; but I'm told that if the roll-up door is open visitors can walk in to say Hi. read more

Normally if I do a review, it's because I've been somewhere. Seeing how Pipeworks isn't open to the public yet, I at least feel fine in reviewing it because they are that awesome. I write this review while sipping (okay, who am I kidding this is going down too fast to consider it sipping) on their killer Citra Ninja. I only note this, because, well, why not? Anyway, Pipeworks has quickly put their stamp as being THE cult brewery in Chicago. Do you like big souts and IPAs? Well, this is where you need to look. Do you also enjoy experimental beers as well? Yup, Pipeworks kills it here too. While not all of their brews will always be hits, I love that they reach for the stars on each go. I will gladly take the major hits that come from them and I constantly look forward to seeing them grow in the neighborhood as well. I love this business model. Pipeworks is a small batch production brewery that bottles and labels by the batch. The batches are tweaked and re-brewed occasionally. Everything is packaged in 22 oz. bottles. Basically, they took the ambitious homebrewer approach and have turned it into a brewery. They need to get the taproom open pronto! I've tried a number of their bottles and have never been disappointed, though I also haven't had any that really blew me away, other than their Imperial Red, 'Blood of the Unicorn'. As I type this, I'm drinking Jones Dog, batch #65. It is a solid, slightly fruity, chocolate and milk stout. Keep it coming, guys! read more

Good people, many of whom have been there from the days of brewing out of an oversized garage. It wasn't exactly easy to find this place. There were no signs anywhere. Thankfully, when we did, we were greeted by Scott and offered some freshly brewed beer (Ninja vs. Unicorn). I finally found an IPA that I can enjoy! They also rescue kittens on the side and have their very own brew kitty who supervises the brewery operations and has his very own beer. We were given bad ass shirts (that I've been wearing as often as I can) and bombers as well. We chatted for several hours with the other brewers and sipped on their delectable beer. All in all, I cannot think of a better brewery experience and everyone needs to drink Pipeworks beer. read more

A Pipeworks yelp review is an oddity not for the fact they are brewery but because they do not have a physical location open to the public to review. Most yelpers have written reviews on the product alone. There brewery sits on a street not from the hustle and bustle of Milwaukee st. I had the privilege to be given a tour of Pipeworks by the founders with some friends from Denmark. And no I did not sneak in, though they do tend to leave their side door open when they are bottling in the summer. It is a small space with a large amount of beer flowing out of it year round. Pipeworks beer ranges from basic styles to oddly crafted styles with hint of the extraordinary. Overall they provide some of the most unique beers on the Chicago brewing scene. I am excited to see how they will expand in the near future. read more

Wow. This is some great beer. They won best new brewery in the WORLD last year for good reason. I have tried most of their beers, and pretty much every one is unique and outstanding. Ninja v. Unicorn, Sam v. Unicorn, Blood of the Unicorn, Simco Ninja, Centennial Ninja (holy hoppy), all great stuff. The one I truly love is called Cash for Golden Ale. I suggest they make that one more often. I'm not a huge fan of stouts or coffee flavored beers, but I hear from those who do that they are also very good. Keep up the good work guys.
