Fridays at the 'Cove' are always fish fry night and still reasonably priced and always great tasting. My wife & I usually split the fish because we dont eat as much anymore (ok so we're old you just wait til it happens to you. Staff is always welcoming & friendly. One of the most friendly neighborhood bars we have ever found. A lot of regulars hang out there, especially on karaoke night, which is when we went, a Saturday. But with that said, everyone was extremely welcoming and warm. And very encouraging regarding the karaoke performances. Really really nice karaoke bar. Brought a group of 11 from Lake Geneva--kids were in a tournament and we were looking for a reasonably priced fish fry. This place came up in a search for fish and being spacious for a group. We get there & there are massive billboard-type Trump signs outside the place. The kids (17 & 18) take one look & tell us " no way". Two are black and one is gay---as one said, "I'm not just uncomfortable--I'm scared". Another said, "For us, it's sort of the opposite of a welcome sign". I felt terrible. Thank god we got in across the street at Lakelawn Lodge for a great meal & view...they accommodated all of us despite it being last min on a Friday. Im assuming the intention of the business IS to communicate they want only certain types of people so i wanted them to know its working. read more

Cozy bar with lots of locals! My husband and I came here the other night after seeing a local horse show and we were sure glad we did. This place is visited by locals that are super sweet and welcoming. We had a blast talking with locals and telling them about our travels. We had an absolute blast! Clearly this bar only wants the few regulars it has I walked in waited to order a drink bartender was busy then she told me it would be a minute that's fine... I go over and play a machine low and behold I hear a regular whining cause I started winning on the machines then the owner proceeds to come over and ask if I need anything by then I decided they don't welcome outsiders so I was gunna cash out and leave even though I've been there many times and spent a lot of $ there the owner told me just so you know if one of my regulars wants that machine you have to get off it they are spending money here you are not......i then had the conversation about how putting money in the machines is patronage to the bar and she said no it's not your not tipping the bartender.....btw I always tip the bartender even though I don't drink or just have a soda also the machines at this bar print a ticket that you take to a atm and it pays you so yea no work for the bartender there so I cashed out threw 2$ on the bar walked out while the bitchy owner screamed thanks for the tip" wow never been so uncomfortable in my life and never ever going there again and I thought this bar was so comfortable and nice atmosphere but that changed big time I do not recommend this place the waterfront down the road is much nicer read more

In a nutshell, this place is average, at best. I'm from Wisconsin and love supper clubs, fish fries, and old fashioneds. I've lived in Delavan for more than 10 years, and have driven by the Pirates Cove hundreds of times. For the first several years, I thought it was permanently closed because the place looks a bit neglected. As newer reviews were being posted about this place having "great" food, I thought it was a hidden gem and perhaps the food would far surpass the building's rough looking exterior. When I walked in, I definitely felt out of place, and everyone seated at the bar turned to look at who was coming through the door. I really wanted to try the fish fry and have old fashioned, so I found a seat and ordered. The drink was fine, as it should be in Wisconsin. The fish was completely forgettable, and there was nothing "great" or unique about it that would warrant a glowing review. The bartenders were nice & the prices were good, but overall my visit was a bust. The most exciting part about the experience was the thought that a fantastic or fun dining experience was hiding inside this unassuming building. It's not. read more

When we moved to Delavan, Pirate's Cove was the first place we tried. It was a happy accident. Their food was excellent, their waitresses (no waiters were ever encountered) were calm and efficient and friendly, and we felt we were at home. Their fish fry is especially recommended, and their potato pancakes are wonderful -- but do ask for sour cream with them, especially if you're Polish like my wife. Their burgers are tasty, and if you happen upon them on Sunday, their chicken dinners are like a home-cooked meal -- if your mother was a good cook who enjoyed making it. This place is such a gem... other places were closed & I didn't see much on Yelp so I didn't stop at first but they were the only place still open near by... I found myself staying longer & truly enjoying the experience. Ambiance has plenty of interesting items to look at. Drinks are very reasonably priced!!! Talking constant HH prices! Owners and customers are very friendly & made me feel like part of the regular crowd. I hear the Friday fish fry is amazing. Down to earth; a local comfy home town secret; hole in the wall. This was the perfect ending to a great night. We stumbled into this great dive bar after attending the PJ 20 show. $3 mixed drinks and free drinks if you kill the bottle or roll a 5 with a dice. The perfect local dive and kitsch heaven. This dark little bar hosts a slew of Hawaiian and nautical themed decorations including a creepy life size pirate corner. Really friendly locals played host to our musical group on Saturday night for Karaoke. Drinks are cheap!!!!! Pitchers were $7 and my Southern Comfort and Coke was only $3. They have "Pirate's Cove Shot Cards." A little yellow card that gets you a free drink after you buy 10. My nice bartender, Kimi, let our group share a card, so we got our free drink really fast. Could feel a little sketch if you weren't with a group, but def. worth a visit in you're in search of local flavor and cheap drinks! read more

My son and I went there on a Friday evening looking for a good fish fry. We found a lot more then that. We both walked in there it was a little later then I prefer to be walking in to a bar with my kid, but the women were out of town so why not. We sat down. Ordered some food and drinks. Everything was great. The service was quick and courteous, the food was hot and tasted great. A few of the guys were a little roudy. But they made up for it. In the end they paid for our dinner so I bought them another round. The next time the women leave us home alone we will be going back for sure. read more

I absolutely LOVED this bar! I went to Delavan for the Wisconsin Food Festival and found myself with about 5 unexpected hours to kill. While driving around I passed this place and noticed the divey outer decor looked like just my kinda place. We went in to the dark and dingy atmosphere feeling like real pirates. Upon entrance our fellow buccaneers harassed us on whether we were bears or packers fans. We passed the first test. Upon ordering two tap beers, we were given a chance at ye olde dice throw. If either landed on a 9, free drinks! No luck. Then we were given the chance at pull tabs, mine said half off! With every drink order, you had the chance at free or half off. Two taps was $3.65 anyways...no discounts needed matey! We ordered steak fries for $2 and broccoli cheddar bites for $5. Both were delicious, and (Tammy?) service was very attentive. I loved the atmosphere, the prices, the kitschy decor, the people...definitely would be my go-to place if I lived closer. read more

I took my 2 sisters out for fish fry and I had herd good things about this place so it was our first time there, we all ordered the breaded fish fry with fries it came with coleslaw and some other slaw noodle salad, that was okay. When the fish came my fries were overly cooked and the fish??? I cannot even pinpoint the taste or texture..it was warm not even hot the fish clearly was not fresh! I thought perhaps they used old oil in frying! I think they were pre fried ahead of time,,No taste, very chewy breading had NO taste and was soggy and greasy it was so bad I had a few bites and I was done! I also enjoy the creepy pirate statue in the corner that whispers to me to backhand the person sitting next to me for fumbling through an obbnoxiously loud bag of Sun Chips. We went for our anniversary. It was overpriced and a little dirty. But after a few drinks we started having a good night. The owner gave us a ride home. The problem came the next day when we went to get our car. Somehow the battery died. (I think I left an interior light on) So when I was trying to get it started a police officer from the town of delavan shows up. He said the owner called them and wants the car removed. A few details to set the parameters around your visit. This is a dive bar. It is not modern, the lighting is dark, the bar is worn, and it is probably mostly unchanged from the 80s. That said, the help is friendly, the food is very good to excellent (bar fare) and the pricing is fair & reasonable. I had a couple cocktails (~$4 each) and an Italian beef sandwich. The sandwich was large, meaty, very flavorful and came prepared with cheese, spices and au jus. Overall, a good variety of bar food - appetizers (fried), burgers and basic sandwiches that is tasty. If you're into local dive type bars with good food, this is a good bet. If you have expectations for a "high class" type place then I would look around. Take a pass on Fish Fry. Was there a couple of weeks ago. Online it says Happy Hour everyday 3p-6p...upon arrival told that it was only Monday-Thursday, not a deal breaker but suspect. Had a few drinks at bar (great Bloody Marys premium price, small Vodka on rocks) ready for fish, to speed things up waiter took order at bar and get us a window table. Thought we were back on track, until people sat after us had been served, finally after about 45 minutes we ask the waiter where our orders were. The response...you have to wait we're very busy (note 1/2 empty picture we uploaded)...until I reminded him that he took our order 45 minutes ago at the bar (insert deer in headlights look), retreated to the kitchen...appears a little while later, no fish, we leave and head to another place, Mojo's in Elkhorn WI. Disappointed, hoping for a great meal, saw good reviews, but we will not be back. read more

Fantastic place. We dropped in on Christmas Eve and the locals were fantastic! So hospitable. We defs will be back again!

My only reason for four stars instead of five is the lack of seating on Friday. We tried the fish fry a few weeks ago for a party of six. We were VERY lucky that the only big table opened up as we got there, or we would have waited quite awhile. Having several choices at the same price was great, and everybody commented on how good the food was. As stated by another poster, getting the three salads was a nice touch. read more
