We went here because the original restaurant we wanted to try was closed. Had decent reviews on Google so we decided to try. Worst decision. We ordered sweet tea for our daughter, she got unsweetened. We ordered the $75 Captain's Feast which comes with oysters, asked for them raw on the side and added an additional half dozen oysters. After 20 minutes 5 oysters are brought to the table and we are told that they are out of oysters. We understand and ask to have the other half dozen removed from the check. The first one we tried tasted absolutely foul. We sent them back and had them removed from the check. 30 minutes later the seafood boil came out on a tiny plate and was no way 4 lbs of seafood as advertised and before they brought the food to the table they threw raw oysters out of the shell into the bag with the steamed food, they were still cold when we started eating, just random oysters floating around in watery soup, absolutely disgusting. We begin eating and realize there is no corn potatoes or sausage included. It took another 20 minutes for our server to return to inform her that items were missing. In her defense she did say it was her first day, but that this was the second time today that the kitchen staff has sent her food out without all of the included items. We were nearly done eating at this point so we asked to have the corn potatoes and sausage put in a Togo box to take home. Included the photo of what was brought to our table for 3 people to share with a 75$ meal. Three potatoes, one corn, and cold sausage. I saw 3 or 4 different servers doing laps around the restaurant but our drinks were only filled once because I asked, extra plates were not brought and no one came to apologize about the oysters or forgetting half of our meal except for our server who was waiting the entire pirate's cove side alone. At the end of the meal I got up to wash my hands in the restroom and walked by a table with an identical order to ours served on a large metal platter, corn sausage and potatoes included and much more food than what we received (also it wasn't swimming in water). I can understand being a new employee and I am not a super picky eater but it was just extremely disappointing to spend basically an entire day's paycheck on what was supposed to be a family dinner and not be able to enjoy it. At the end we didn't even want to complain anymore, everything brought to the table was wrong in some way. I hope that this review saves someone else from having to experience the same thing as us. Pretty cool place with a lot of seating. They have a bar counter made completely into a long fish aquarium! Service was friendly though very slow for a Saturday afternoon. They were completely out of lobster and oysters unfortunately. We did opt for the seafood nachos (which were pretty good with the fried pita corners) and the mozzarella cheeseburger with mozzarella cheese sticks AND then even more mozzarella! We stopped in here for the first time. We wanted to check it out. I didn't realize it was a sports bar and it was crowded and very noisy with all of the TVs showing a game. We both chose the seafood combo of fried shrimp and scallops. My wife Kathey chose the red potatoes and a salad for her sides while I went with the fries and some coleslaw. I come here often. I mostly get their alligator bites and beer. But I have had their steak and raw oysters. I don't ever have a problem with service here. The ladies are attractive and nice. Nope, just nope. As New Bern résidents we hadn't tried PC. First the good-- good beer selection. And none of this was our waitress's fault. The food was awful. My shrimp po boy was frozen battered shrimp dropped in the fryer. Which makes me wonder why it took 10+ minutes to come out AFTER my husband was served his cold fries and lousy burger. His burger was supposed to be a marvelous creation with cheese mixed in with the meat. Uh--nope. He bit into it and got a mouthful of salt and pepper. The meat wasn't even mixed. Never again! I loved the dress up (both staff and decorations) for the season. Our waitress was attentive and cordial. Our food was kinda meh. The best dish was the seafood nachos. The crab and seafood chowder was kinda bland but passable. Crab cake sandwich was fun with the legs sticking out making for an authentic experience, but the rest of it was just a leaf of lettuce, a sliced tomato, and white bread thrown in a toaster. Cajun linguine was terrible. Not Cajun at all, just a garlic sauce and a little black pepper. Way overpriced ($24). The hubs and I came for a drink and a couple of appetizers. The drinks were great.we had the fried green beans which were fresh and not greasy. The clam chowder we ordered tasted okay but the texture was a bit mushy ( like the potatoes broke down inside the chowder due to overcooking) . Finally, we ordered the crab cakes and while they did have a pleasant taste, they were incredibly overcooked. The corn that was served as a side was also delicious but a bit overcooked. My daughter wanted to come here. She lives in New Bern and has yet to come. We went in and she wanted to sot at the bar. The bar is so cool, its a huge fish-tank. I tried a few of their local beers who's names i forget but they were house beers and very good. For dinner, we started with the alligator bites which were fried perfectly amd served with a nice dipping sauce. We then split the Whydah Galley steampot which was oysters, shrimp, clams, mussels, snow crab and king crab for $60 plus they charge you $5 to share a plate. Went to The Pirates Cove for lunch in January while on vacation and had a great experience. Dated, but cool decor. We got the crab dip with pita chips, which was delicious, and po-boys. They were also delicious. However, our choices were a bit narrowed as it was the 2nd and the New Year had wiped them out. Not a big deal and totally understandable. We went back a couple of days later for dinner & were pretty much able to have whatever we wanted as they were able to restock quickly. We got the "Buried Treasure" steam pot. It was absolutely huge, and another order of King Crab legs. Wonderful. We're back for another week & went this evening because, after a long day, sometimes you want to go where you don't have to guess. Both my husband & I were extremely disappointed. There were, yet again, things on the menu that were not available. Not even the fresh stuff. Simple things like coconut shrimp and even alfredo sauce. How do you run out of alfredo sauce? Because it's not fresh. Anyone can go to the to the store & get alfredo sauce. A restaurant should be making it fresh. It's quite simple to make. We started with the little necks. They were teeny tiny, and had no flavor. And the butter tasted as if it had been sitting in the refrigerator with leftovers. My husband stuck with the po-boy, which he said was good, but the collard greens had no taste. I asked for Shrimp Scampi. What I got was overcooked angel hair pasta that was swimming in melted butter. No garlic, no parmesan, no wine, no flavor. And no bread. I asked and was offered crackers even though they clearly had bread. Unless they used the last bit for my husband's sandwich. The beer was good, and waitresses were helpful and on time, both times. Maybe they could apply to that show, Restaurant Makeover (not trying to be mean. The place could be really cool). Until then, the bad outweighs the good, and we will not be back. read more

Living in New Bern, we finally got around to trying Pirates Cove yesterday. We sat at the bar which is a flat fish tank and adds a dimension of entertainment to the meal. We almost always try a new-to-us place with lunch first and based on our meals, we will definitely return to Pirate's Cove for dinner. My wife had the fish tacos with snapper and rated them 4.5 out of 5. Also, the fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned with rosemary. I tried their peel and eat shrimp in order to compare them to those of a nearby favorite eatery. I rate them a perfect 5. The service was very good and our server, Marielle, was friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel welcome and added to the positive experience. read more

We've been here pretty regularly since moving here last year and always enjoyed the food and our favorite Bartender, Shelby. However, over the last few months, we haven't seen Shelby, and the current team in there is less friendly, less concerned about customer service and last night my Cajun linguine was like paste. Yuck. Also had to wait way to long for beverage refills, our food order and to get served in the first place. And as usual, this side of the establishment was not busy. Four servers standing at the end of the bar talking. VERY disappointed last night! Not sure we'll be going in again, even through it was always a good place to just pop in. read more

I went to Pirate's Cove tonight for the first time. I had been wanting to try their oysters rockefeller. We got there a little after 9:00 and it was Friday night. When i went to order the waitress informed us we could only get fried food since it was after 9. mind you, they don't even have any fried on their menu besides the captain's platter. The said we could order from Blackbeard's menu so we got some wings and fries. The food came up and sat on the counter for a good 6 minutes before anyone brought it out to us. Nevermind there were FIVE WAITRESSES standing right their just shooting the breeze. It wasn't even hot anymore! When we looked at the bill we saw that they charge a 3% fee for not paying cash. All I know is it was a total disappointment and I won't be going back. I'll take the waitrese recommendation and go to Captain Ratty's for the oyster. read more

I've been going here off and on since it opened. It shares a kitchen with Blackbeards next door. I have no real problem with food or service. Last time I was there I started with their chowder. It was standard but the portion was tiny in a small bowl. The crackers were stale. A glass of house wine is 8 bucks and is half of a small glass full. The day I went they were out of many items due to the previous day's weather from Idalia. I ended up with fish and chips. The fish was way over cooked but plentiful. Lots of fries if that's your thing. My small cup of soup, the wine and fish came to $28. Imagine! I'll go back because their raw oysters are usually good. I know the cost of doing business has gone up however this place overcharges for the quality and quantity aspects. It's a so so joint with competent servers usually but none last long. New Place in my lovely little town. New in the sense it is a new business but is owned by the same people that own Black Beards and Tripple Play. I will say the menus are vastly different and the food we had today was very good minus one small dingy. My partner in crime shared a 2 option Captains Platter that was more than enough to share. We got the coconut shrimp and fried shrimp. Fried shrimp had great flavor and the cocktail sauce provided had a nice kick. The coconut shrimp is where the ding comes in. May have been slightly undercooked. However, it still had good flavor and good size. We opted for the red potatoes and collards. My wife being a collard connoisseur compared them to the pig on Simmons. those in the know, know what that means, very good. Potatoes were steamed and basted in what tasted like butter and rosemary, again, very good. Staff was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere was pretty cool for the theme.
