Pretty cool place with a lot of seating. They have a bar counter made completely into a long fish aquarium! Service was friendly though very slow for a Saturday afternoon. They were completely out of lobster and oysters unfortunately. We did opt for the seafood nachos (which were pretty good with the fried pita corners) and the mozzarella cheeseburger with mozzarella cheese sticks AND then even more mozzarella! For some average all- American bar/diner food, this is pretty good.

We stopped in here for the first time. We wanted to check it out. I didn't realize it was a sports bar and it was crowded and very noisy with all of the TVs showing a game. We both chose the seafood combo of fried shrimp and scallops. My wife Kathey chose the red potatoes and a salad for her sides while I went with the fries and some coleslaw. The food was ok as was the service considering how busy it was. Not sure if we will return but for sure it won't be on a Sunday game day.

I come here often. I mostly get their alligator bites and beer. But I have had their steak and raw oysters. I don't ever have a problem with service here. The ladies are attractive and nice. The place always smells clean. The only complaint is the extreme prices of their steaks. I will continue coming here though!

I loved the dress up (both staff and decorations) for the season. Our waitress was attentive and cordial. Our food was kinda meh. The best dish was the seafood nachos. The crab and seafood chowder was kinda bland but passable. Crab cake sandwich was fun with the legs sticking out making for an authentic experience, but the rest of it was just a leaf of lettuce, a sliced tomato, and white bread thrown in a toaster. Cajun linguine was terrible. Not Cajun at all, just a garlic sauce and a little black pepper. Way overpriced ($24). Seafood Nachos - 4 / 5 Chowder - 3.5 / 5 Crab Cake Sandwich - 3.25 / 5 "Cajun" Linguine with shrimp - 1.75 / 5 Decorations and service - 4 / 5 Tap Selection - 3.75 / 5 Overall - 3.25 / 5

The hubs and I came for a drink and a couple of appetizers. The drinks were great.we had the fried green beans which were fresh and not greasy. The clam chowder we ordered tasted okay but the texture was a bit mushy ( like the potatoes broke down inside the chowder due to overcooking) . Finally, we ordered the crab cakes and while they did have a pleasant taste, they were incredibly overcooked. The corn that was served as a side was also delicious but a bit overcooked. We will be back and try some more of their food. *end note The bar, which doubles as a fishtank is fun and the crabby salt shakers are a fun addition.

My daughter wanted to come here. She lives in New Bern and has yet to come. We went in and she wanted to sot at the bar. The bar is so cool, its a huge fish-tank. I tried a few of their local beers who's names i forget but they were house beers and very good. For dinner, we started with the alligator bites which were fried perfectly amd served with a nice dipping sauce. We then split the Whydah Galley steampot which was oysters, shrimp, clams, mussels, snow crab and king crab for $60 plus they charge you $5 to share a plate. Everything was outstanding Except, the shrimp weren't clean there are so many that you are cleaning shrimp poop for some time. Other than that, this was a great time

Wanted to try a different restaurant but for the second time they were packed at 515 so I went down.the street to here. Again the service was pleasant and the martini was good. The oysters (were blah but one was off. I had high hopes for the red snapper plain but hopefully cooked well but it was like eating chalk. Mac and cheese was good kinda like Panera the collards were ok too. Two things 1) the app and dinner came at the same time 2) something probably an oyster made me run to my hotel to use the loo.

Sat at the bar and nobody ever came to check on us, but the bartender on the other side (at Black Beard's) was awesome!

The place has some very good food. We were seated right away and the service and the grilled seafood the best.

One half feels historic and the other half feels modern with the artwork, mirrors, and finishes. The lighting is dim but you can still read the menu. It wasn't busy while I was there but quiet enough I couldn't hear other conversations. Initially the host wanted to seat me at the bar but when I declined, gave me a seat near the open kitchen. My waitress was friendly and helped me select the strawberry blonde to go with the strawberry salad. This was smaller than expected and just one or two strawberries. There was a little too much dressing for my taste as I forgot to order it on the side. I did like how the flavors came together. I also had the chocolate torte which was rich and decadent. I left here a little squeamish from what I witnessed. After all, I was seated at a booth table with a full view of the open kitchen. I noticed the food runner repeatedly touching his nose then the plates of food. I watched him reset a table and was touching the silverware by the tines, the part that goes in your mouth, rather than the handles. I'm not sure if the hands had been washed when he added by hand garnish to my dessert. I immediately removed the garnish but should have returned the dish to get it remade. Also, a table of six was seated then left a few minutes later and the glasses and silverware were not replaced while I was there, leaving me to assume they were not replaced for the next guests. I also noticed the restaurant had many cameras, so these hygiene lapses were likely recorded. For an upscale spot, these hygiene issues were disappointing. I truly enjoyed the flavors and the atmosphere, and I would be happy to return in the future if I could be confident that basic hygiene and service protocols were being strictly followed. I'd particularly love to come back and try the strawberry cake next time.

Relatively dark and fancy inside, but more than light enough to read menus and have good convo. For one of the most highly talked about restaurants in New Bern, I was hoping for more impressive taste though. My partner and I got the half dozen oyster special, pamlico curry, and the duck pastrami pizza. It came out pretty quick and looked great (they even split our meal without us specifying and without up charge when they confirmed we were sharing), but just tasted decent. For the oysters, I would've preferred their vinaigrette on the side. Also think a classic mignonette is a bit better. The curry takes a creative but underwhelming spin on shrimp and grits. Lastly, the pizza was pretty good but could've used some more duck. To be fair, we may have just not ordered the right foods, but we weren't very impressed by the drinks either. However, based on the service and other great reviews, we will be back to try their other stuff!

We had dinner there again a couple weeks ago and while he didn't get the ribeye he ordered, the ribeye he got was delicious. I got the Chinese-style ribs & slaw special. I almost ordered the duck special but I can make good duck at home. My ribs are hopeless. The server described these ribs as a small plate but I got 9 tasty ribs and the slaw was the perfect acidity to cut the sweet, heavy richness of the ribs. I generally don't care for 5 spice powder; it's usually too cinnamon or too cloves forward but these were perfect. Also, if you've never tried their South African Pudding, do yourself a favor and order it next time. It's like a cold bread pudding a bed of caramel and topped with whipped cream (but last night, it seemed like marshmallow cream). Never a disappointment and glad to have a great steak option in New Bern.

Disappointing Birthday Experience…read more We chose The Chelsea in New Bern to celebrate my wife's birthday. We've been here once before and had no issues, which is why this experience was so frustrating. This visit was below average. The food overall was overly salty, but the biggest issue came when we were packing our food to go. As my wife was about to box up her chicken bruschetta, we noticed a hair stuck between the chicken breasts. We immediately informed the waitress. Instead of allowing us to document the issue, she quickly took the plate away. No replacement entrée was offered. The manager came over and offered a dessert, but since it was my wife's birthday, we already had cake waiting at home. A replacement meal or removal of the entrée from the bill would have made more sense. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale, the way this was handled was disappointing; especially on a special occasion. Cleanliness and proper resolution matter, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark.

This was our first visit, so we were excited to get a water view when seated at our table - it was a bit too blustery to sit outside overlooking the river and massive boats parked alongside the waterfront restaurant. Our server, Brooke, guided us through everything from the cocktail menu to the entrees, effortlessly - she made solid suggestions from the get-go and was a delight to have helping us. Our two-top started off with a classic Persimmons Old Fashioned ($18) cocktail and a pear vodka, habanero and cucumber lime drink called the Bon Voyage ($14). We chose to split the Roasted Beet Salad ($13) as our appetizer and it was certainly large enough for two to share. The spring mix was topped with delicious red and golden beets, flecks of goat cheese and pistachios, as well as a thick fig balsamic. The salad could have easily been a meal topped with an optional protein. The entree menu features most of the coastal classics, including Fish Tacos ($16), a couple of massive burgers and some heavier offerings like Seafood Pasta ($32) and a huge Fried Seafood Platter ($30) We opted for the Tequila Salmon ($32), served over rice pilaf with green beans and a spicy margarita sauce. I ordered the Unicorn Fish ($30), mostly out of curiosity and upon Brooke's suggestion. The latter was an amazingly flakey fish with the taste and texture of grouper. Topped with honey pecans and served over a lemon scallop risotto with asparagus and spinach - certainly the most nicely prepared fish I've had in a very long time. We wrapped up the meal with a couple more cocktails and enjoyed the late afternoon view - the Wake Breaker ($18) drinks feature reposado, bailey's chocolate and a touch of habanero - the perfect end to an amazing meal.

Our server Ridley, came to the table promptly, answered our questions and took our orders. Our drinks came quickly and were always full. The food arrived soon after our orders were placed. The presentation of our meals was terrific. Three diners in our party ordered the Fish Tacos and one got the Fish and Chips. It would be an understatement to say the servings were seriously generous. The fish & chips came 3 large fried fish filets and a heaping of seasoned fries. The taco orders each had 3 full vs mini sized soft tacos overflowing with fish filets...the fish was legit spilling out over both ends of the tacos! The fish was lightly battered, nicely seasoned and fried to perfection. The quantity of the food was so generous, only one of us could finish our meal!! On our way out, we stopped and spoke with the manager Kelsey. She is the spirit behind the "the new and improved" Persimmon's ethos. She took no credit for the changes or improvements and instead placed our exemplary experience squarely at the feet of her employees! It's obvious she's a wonderful, caring leader of the Persimmon's team. Cheers to Kelsey, Ridley and the Persimmon's crew!
