Maybe it was the heatwave.. or maybe I was just off for a late dinner before bedtime. But this is the story of the "Root beer army" (so to speak). Pironne's is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, so I was kinda expecting... I dunno... something extra when I walked in the door (I think I'm going to have to find a dinner companion for these jaunts, just to go with so people don't look at me like I'm weird (which yes, I'm taking a point off for). Walked in and the sign warned me they're short-handed, so I expect a little time between stuff. Anyway, I'm by myself and the kid at the wait station kinda makes it known (Just "One"? Okay.) You could tell he didn't want to be there that night, but honestly, I'm not sure anyone did (as it was still roasting outside and this place is cooled by fans about 15 feet in the air... it was hot and stuffy inside (despite it being a non-busy night). Come on guys, I know we're wanting to be an Italian restaurant, but it's still America: Air conditioning please! Waitress is quick over to the table. No sweet tea in the restaurant, unsweet only (And this foodie is having a sad day at this restaurant to start.). Okay, Root beer it is.. (She quickly brings one over and so I ask her (as I do EVERY restaurant), what do you recommend? "Pizza is our specialty." I get that... but which pizza? You've only got 5 on the menu and a do-it-yourself pizza. it shouldn't be that hard to have a favorite. But that's all I get out of her. Okay, well, just for that. I'll start with the appetizer sampler. Fortunately, this was a quick serve, because remember I mentioned a heat wave? Root Beer one... gone! (remember the heat wave?) Unfortunately it takes a little while for Sampler plates, so by the time the plate arrives.. Root beer two.. gone.. but at least the other waitress is there for the save.. Perfect timing! So, they give me two plates (two, again! Sheesh. I'm by myself for this excursion!) for the appetizer (can i say, Mushrooms should NEVER look this small when they're deep fried!), it's called "BATTER UP!" and two different sauces (marinara and then tomato/meat sauce), even though I'm here solo. (See what I mean about a dining companion, even restaurants don't know what to do for solo men). Now amidst all my complainy-ing to myself... I gotta say the sampler's not bad and the Tomato/meat sauce is pretty darn good (made everything on the sampler plate better than just "breaded Italian food" (so I'm giving a HAPPY point here). But the heat wave still going on, but at least a different waitress sees I'm needing Root Beer #3! But now we have to take a point away. I'm still working through the appetizers but I set them to the side "AWAY" from the main floor.. so if you have to get over them you have to go through my eating, when introductory staff guy comes over and starts to pick up one of the bowls I've still got sauce in and food on my plate. (Do you really want me out THAT Bad?), but I was nice and motioned to him not yet.. so i didn't make him feel too bad, I think (I can be a nice old man at times :P).. And the waitress is back to take my order and Root Beer #4, and we'll do a "pizza" and since she didn't pick, Supreme. At this time I would point out all their specialty pizzas were about the same price (by size) and "DIY" came out to like $2 more if you added the same number of toppings. SO we're watching the root beer slowly disappear again. cause this was the step that took a while (getting the pizza), but here's where I'm going to be nice, because this pizza was... actually good. Not sure if it was the sausage or what, but it did salvage the meal. Oh and there was a rootbeer #5 somewhere during the Pizza eating time, that I kinda of lost track of. So on to the report card! Food: 3/5 (again, whatever meat on the pizza was used and the appetizer meat/tomato sauce saved it from being ordinary) Cost:; Again, probably more than i was expecting, but this time i will say it was due in part to higher than expected pricing for pizzas. Again if it had been with a friend, splitting costs, not so bad, but for a dinner of 1.. Little more expensive than i'd hoped. Service: Even though the kid obviously didn't want to be there and the staff was stretched thin, so mot the best night of service (2/5) Ambience: This is the United States, lack of a/c kinda just ruined most of the evening IMO (and the single runs of luck I'm having).. 2/5) But hey I probably my root-beer quota for the day.. so no winners/no losers this time around. So in my esteemed morale of the story: Make sure you're with a friend to split the costs, and in the end, a solid pizza that isn't enough to take the restaurant to 4*, but a decent 3-star Oh yeah and remember if you're going in the heatwave.. dress cool! This place is clearly all about the pizza but I walked into the Carry Out area where you can see customers sitting in to enjoy the spaghetti and cheesecake as well. They have quite the operation with parking spots in their already large lot designated for carry out customers as well closer to the door. I opted to walk in from further away. Two ladies man the window ready to take orders or coordinate orders like mine that were called in. I walked in 20 minutes after placing my order but at peak hour they told me 15 more so I read a book until called to grab my fresh hot pie. I absconded with my prize to my hotel. I love St Louis style pizza. You can't find Provel anywhere near where I live in the PNW. This one has a really nice thin crust with plenty of mushrooms. I thought their sauce was a little on the sweet side. Not my favorite so far. I also came back with my coworker because he wanted a taste of St. Louis on his short stay, but he wasn't impressed either. I picked up some mushroom spaghetti on my next stop but that was also far too sweet and just okay. Sadly, for some reason pizza places seem to be closed on Sundays and Mondays which are the main days I'm in town this week for work, so I guess it's this place or Imo's this time, but I'll plan to go during Faraci's open hours next time. read more

I had a taste for pizza and I came here on my son request. Private parking lot. Dine in option available but I chose carry out for this purchase. Staff were friendly. Online ordering was our method. We ordered a meat pizza . Pretty pricey . In my opinion it was just ok, it was over seasoned and kinda dry. My son loved it . So I will say this is a neutral review. Pirrone's has been my favorite pizza forever. I grew up in Florissant and that was the staple as a kid.

We placed a to-go order but arrived earlier than expected and asked if we could sit and eat inside. The restaurant area was not busy, it was 7:30 pm, and the place looked so cute and cozy decorated for Christmas. The host seemed confused, left to check, and came back saying it was fine but we would need to pick up our pizza from the takeout window. We were seated and given silverware, but after that no one checked on us at all. It was as if we weren't there The restaurant wasn't busy--only 2 2-topa small tables and one larger group that left as we went to sit down --yet the two servers nor the host on duty stopped at our table, offered drinks, plates, or even made eye contact. Other tables received normal service while we were completely ignored. We eventually asked the sweet employee at the pickup window for water and napkins, and she was the only person who helped us the entire time. Thankfully the food was good but the service was extremely disappointing; aside from the carryout window staff. I have been to this location many times over the years and a handful of times at the St. Peters location. I expected a lot better from this family-owned pizzeria. This felt like an avoidable customer-service miss. read more

Delicious, well-made, quality ingredients, a casual, comfortable setting, and the management is top-notch.

We have been wanting to try this pizza place for a while but Imperial to Florissant isn't exactly close. However, Sunday we decided let's just go. We arrived right around noon when they opened and were greeted kindly and seated immediately. They had a note posted that they were short staffed, but our service was prompt and great. We ordered a salad with the house dressing. I didn't love the dressing. It wasn't bad, but I like a little more vinegar and flavor to my italian style dressing. This was very oil forward. The cannelloni bites and fried cauliflower were delish. The meat sauce is so good. We opted for their supreme pizza but changed it up a bit- no sausage or bacon, added hamburger and green pepper. The crust was so thin and crispy. The toppings were loaded with a perfect amount of sauce and cheese. We also got an order of baked lasagna to go. Even later that night it was tasty, however, I wish they wouldn't have put it in a stroganoff container. The baked cheese stuck to the container and partially melted it. I would drive from imperial to Florissant again for their food and service. We greatly enjoyed it. read more

We're staying at a hotel to catch a flight home, got hungry, wanted pizza so looked up pizza places around me. Pirrone's had 4.5 stars so we decided to try it out. We made our own pizza, medium and large are the 2 choices. Medium has 12 slices and large 16. The pizza is flat pan and sausage handmade. We had sausage, green peppers, pineapple and onion. My fam loved it, I couldn't get into the American and mozzarella cheese on the pizza but it was still ok, just different. I also ordered a small salad, tossed. Had no idea what they meant but they add the vinaigrette and toss (mix) the salad vice having dressing on the side. I opened it up and it was full of the mozzarella that wasn't in the pizza. It was also huge! Taste really good with just cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Finally I decided to go for it and got the key lime pie, delicious! The total came to $41 but I asked if they had military discount, showed my ID and they gave us a 50% discount. So glad I went for that key lime pie I took a few shots of the seated area, we did take out. It was cozy but I can't say how the service would be. I would go back if I lived here. read more

I've been coming to Pirrone's since the 80's and have always had the pizza and salad and couldn't wait for my next visit. This time I decided to try some pasta and I was so disappointed! I ordered the pasta con broccoli. It was dry and bland. I asked the waitress for some extra sauce and she explained to me that it would be "a lot" of extra sauce and wanted to know if I was okay with that. Ummm...yes? Anyway, she brought back a small bowl of sauce, (not a lot). It still wasn't enough to completely cover the pasta. I was sad that I didn't get the pizza. I'll be back but I'll stick to pizza and salad from now on. read more

I'm SUCH a big fan of Pirrone's. I've had them multiple times with work and it's always a hit. My favorite part is that it is a good change up from Imo's. The dough is fresh, the ingredients are available (IYKYK) and the delivery is quick. As a business, they have marketed to us many times with a free pizza. Granted, I don't work at that place anymore but it has always stuck with me. That's confidence in your product if you bring it in and walk away knowing they'll want more! And we always did. I don't even work there and I'm leaving a review just off the memory of what it did to me, lol. I live in the area now so I've been glad to try them and see that their promotional pizzas are just as good as their customer product. Well established restaurant in the Florissant area with a 2nd location is St.Peter's Mo. They offer lunch specials, daily specials ,carry out and kid friendly.House Salad was delicious, crispy and loaded with cheese and a nice dressing. Pizza was perfect, thin fresh made crust loaded with a flavorful sauce and loaded with cheese, bacon, sausage . Pepperoni onions and mushrooms. Definitely one of the better pizzas offered around here the area in my opinion and worth going back for. read more

Lunch with coworkers--who chose location--and if I wasn't meeting them I would have got up and left because the waitress was absolutely rude for no reason whatsoever. It was my first time there and definitely my last. I work too dang hard to spend my money somewhere I am treated like my existence is bothersome. Just an absolute rude woman who made the entire experience worse. So much cheese on my salad it wasnt edible. Pizza was alright but not worth ignoring the rude waitress. Lesson learne. read more

Been going to Pirrone's for a few years now. When they're on, it's great. When they're not, it's still pretty good. The experience eating in-house is better. The pies are hot with a nice crisp crust. Taking one home can be hit or miss. They're always tasty, that's a big draw, but sometimes the crust is a little soggy. The salads are good and fresh, but nothing special. Lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese. I recommend the house dressing - it's excellent. Toasted Rav's are tasty and comes with a selection of sauces - tomato, cheese, or meat. Tried them all and like them all. Overall, better than average, and I will continue to go back! On a good day they're 5 stars, but overall, probably should be 3.5 stars, but can't justify 4. read more

The following is a copy of the email that I sent to the email listed on the website Friday night. As of 6:30 Monday night, I've heard nothing back. I didn't mention in the email that my dining companion did eat all of the ravioli but wasn't terribly impressed with it. I'm giving it two stars as the salad was very good but the chicken and French fries were awful. We ordered two fried chicken dinners and an order of ravioli to-go Friday night.. The salads/dressings were good as always but the chicken was terrible. We have ordered it many times in the past and enjoyed it very much, but tonight it was flavorless and not very meaty at all. If this is the new standard, we will not order again. I am very disappointed and neither of us that ordered the chicken ate even half of our meal. read more

There food and service is excellent. Been going here for years. This is my only complaint..I ordered there Fettuccine Alfredo and salad. This is one of my faves from there. I order a 1/2 order with salad as I did last time a couple weeks ago. My husband ordered a full order then. His was awsome with lots of sauce. Mine on the other hand had no sauce and dry. Very disappointing. So again I get my same order 1/2 w salad. Get home, open it, oh hell no not again...I mean dry! Why because it's a half order? I don't understand. It's been a couple years since I've had Pirrone's and it definitely is just as good as before! My boyfriend had never been there and it might be his new favorite. My youngest devoured half a pizza and he rarely has more than 2 pieces. We ordered to-go, but the service when picking up was still super helpful and friendly. read more

Very good pizza, some of the best Saint Louis style pizza in Saint Louis. Not too salty, which lets you taste the ingredients instead of the salt. Not runny at all, and the pizza sizes are great. With six diners two of which were young athletic men in their early 20's, two large pizza's were perfect. Service was a bit casual and the inside of the restaurant a bit "run down", but nothing worse than what you would expect from any well established pizzeria. Rest rooms were pretty clean so no issues there. Yum! read more

Growing up in Florissant, I had Pirrone's pizza often. This has become my #1 St Louis style pizza, now that Frankie Tocco's closed and Angelo's Pizzeria sold out to new owners who changed the original recipe. The pizza crust is the BEST thin crust in St Louis. Their crust is homemade and FRESH. Their rival, Imo's uses frozen pizza shells. Awesome pizza and menu. Every dish is excellent. Beside the lunch buffet, my favorite meal is the house salad and lasagna.

I'm a snob about Italian food. BIG TIME. Raised by two northern-Italian grandmothers who, most days from kindergarten to high school when I can home from school, had our dining room chairs were all covered with kitchen towels and drying pasta. Okay. Now you know my heritage. That said, Pirrone's is mostly authentic. Good red sauce (although Nana Lattanzi would NEVER EVER have called flat noodles - call em fettuccine, tagliatelle, tonnarelli - SPAGHETTI. Because they're not). Great ravioli. Solid red sauce though. Homemade Italian sausage is hit or miss: amazing some days and too many anise seeds another and over cooked. But mostly solid. Pizza is kickass, creamy sauce and hot as all get out. I mean top 1% of any pizza I've ever eaten, anywhere in the States. House salad is a massive bowl (and the house oil and vinegar is great). Prices are amazingly reasonable. Based on my love of their food, this place should get a 5-star rating, right?? But I've been in town for three months, eaten here weekly, and the same "Pardon Our Slowness, We're Short Staffed" sign at the door may finally be a dealbreaker for me. Today was nearly 90 minutes from sit down to check. Hire some people. Outside of that: an exceptional place. Love small, well loved Italian joints. But damn. I absolutely love Pironnies! Every time I visit the area from Georgia, this is my go-to spot. Their pizza is the BEST EVER, and I also LOVE their beef ravioli. The location is easy to find, with plenty of parking, and they can accommodate larger parties. The inside is clean and comfortable. Sometimes there is a wait, but it usually isn't too long. The staff have always been friendly. I highly recommend my most favorite pizza spot ever! read more

Ordered quite a few items so I will review them separately. Ordered online and food was ready close to the scheduled time. Friendly staff. Very casual establishment and family friendly. On to the food. I will preface this by saying I am from out of the area so our pizza is a little different than this region of the country. Pizza- 4/5 stars- thin crust, generous amount of toppings. Fried mushrooms- 3/5- just okay nothing memorable. Ravs- 3/5 flavor was okay better than other pizza places in town. Wings- 4/5 good flavor we had them tossed in BBQ. Overall it was WAY better than Imo's to me. read more

Probably our last visit. Took almost ten minutes for the two kids at the hostess stand to figure out where to sit my wife while I parked. Six open table and they couldn't make up their minds. Server fat shamed my wife and I when we told her we didn't want to share our appetizers (just FYI I really don't like your salads). No dressing on the salad even though it was requested (the table next to us had the same issue) the server looked at us like we were idiots when we asked. The toasted ravs were on the cool side of lukewarm. The deluxe pizza have the flavor of salt and that was all. I was able to get two pieces down and took the rest home only to decide to throw it out later. PLEASE tell your bus person to ask before grabbing plates to remove them. My wife was not done with her salad, but after the bus person had his hands all over it we didn't want it back. Just horrid. Not that management cares. read more

I went up to have dinner tonight on 09/12/25, they were busy and had a lot of people sitting and waiting for tables and the one whole side was not open to sit people. There were big parties leaving because they would not sit them. Plus when we were leaving there was still people waiting to be seated and there where tables available but they didn't seat them. read more

I'm still not sure how I feel about St. Louis style pizza - I'm new to the area - but this is the 2nd best I've had, out of 5. It's way better than Imos or Amis. I wish I could give 0 stars, I visited this establishment thinking i was going to have a nice dinner and things went left! After noticing the "bare with us we are short staff" sign, I understood. I waited on the server and she approached and took our order but fair warned us that the appetizer would take some time. We are absolutely fine with that and requested our salad to come first while we wait. The salad came in a timely manner, i requested plastic ware and was told that they don't give it to dine in customers. This was only for carry out who ask for it. I ask could she check if they had one to spare. She walked off and talked to the other staff as I sat waiting. Frustrated with the entire situation I decided to leave. She told me I had to pay for my drinks, that we did not touch. I will never come to this establishment again, so much for the"great service" that others have experienced. read more

In a city known for Pizza and Wings, Pirrone's misses the mark by a mile. Not to mention the service was abysmal. The pizza was okay, at best, and the wings were terrible. Undercooked and brought out in a soup of sauce. If you're in the area and want STL-style pizza, just go across the parking lot to IMO'S. It's a much better option. read more

Everytime I have bought here it's been fantastic. The pizzas are so absolutely delicious. When I am in the area I ALWAYS get a pizza from here. I feel it's the best tasting pizza for 25 miles around. I will drive 30 miles pass many pizza joints to eat here or get takeout. read more
