"Express" is clearly just a title. This place could be called Asian Depressed. Currently standing in line waiting for an order - 2 meals mind you - and it's been over an hour. It has been fun to meet other miserable people also waiting for their food. I love that this place is quick to take your money and then all they all disappear. Our first round was turned out after 30 minutes of waiting only to get home and find half of it missing and soup spilled all over what was provided. The call back was met with attitude, apparently the order taker is too important to be bothered. I didn't realize answering the phone for fried rice was life or death. We wait the 20 minutes we're told and show up only to wait even longer. Utterly ridiculous. Unless you have time to kill, don't bother going to this grease pit. read more

I ordered an appetizer that I did not receive. I assumed the waitress didn't add it to my bill and after she processed my credit card I saw that she DID charge me. I went up to the counter to make the hostess aware of the issue and she ran my card AGAIN for $4 less, charging my card for almost $90 on a $36 meal. She said the first charge would drop off and that they can't just refund the $4 (because that makes too much sense). Four days later and lone behold, my card is charged for the original amount - not the corrected amount - including a tip that was clearly NOT DESERVED. My meal was also not good, I couldn't even eat it because there were so many red pepper flakes in it - and it was not listed on the menu as hot. Super unhappy. read more

I had the sesame chicken. It came with an egg roll and fried rice. Everything was absolutely delicious. Crispy egg roll with tons of flavor. The chicken had just enough breading. A little too much sauce for my liking but was still good. I could just sit and eat their fried rice for days. Good service as well. read more

Extremely disappointing. I ordered Mongolian Beef with white rice what came out was a salty concoction of mainly onions and half a dozen small slices of meat. When I say salty it was like they emptied a salt shaker in it. I am sorry but I DO NOT like when they use plain white onions to make this dish because it gives the dish a nasty look like you're about to eat a plate of worms. This place is a big miss. read more

*First of all this review is not about the food, the food is generally excellent, but about an experience I had recently. I went to Pi's Asian Express and the lady there was on the phone at the desk taking an order, she looked like she might be the owner. I went to the counter right in front of her and waited for her to finish. After I came in and was waiting to speak to her, another gentleman came in, a Caucasian man, and stood to the side of the counter. In my head I thought, "I bet she will talk to him first when she gets off the phone". Sure enough, she turned to him and asked him how she could help him and to his credit he immediately told her that I was there first. She then turned to me and I politely or not so politely reminded her that yes, I was there first. If I had been the one off to the side I would have given her the benefit of the doubt, but come on, how do you have someone standing directly in front of you, looking you in the eye and make that mistake? I will generally brush things off and give people the benefit of the doubt but when something is as obvious as this I feel I have no choice but to call the person out. To her credit she was very nice and pleasant after she realized what she had done and it was probably her subconscious acting out, but it should never happen. The point of this review is to make sure nothing like this ever happens again to anyone, it is insulting. read more

When I lived in Michigan, I really appreciated that Pi's offered vegetarian options. However, the wait time is ridiculously long, even for takeout. I LOVE Asian Express! I miss the good asian food of Midland more than anything and everytime I'm back I stop in here! For those who are all in the mood for something different, Asian Express is the perfect stop for take out or dining in. I always order Hibachi Steak and Chicken with Spring Rolls or Crabmeat and Cheese for an appetizer. SO GOOD!! It's a cheap alternative to Genji's for the japanese food, and for chinese it's about the same as Pi's (without the buffet.) I can't recall a time I've really had terrible service. I've always had pretty average service. Nothing memorable, but then again if that was a concerning factor I would just order out! read more

Passing through town, this place was pretty good. I had the steamed shrimp dumplings & the Pho soup (menu calls it Thai noodle soup). They were both flavorful & tastey. Though I did not try any of the more traditional Chinese food, if I find myself in Midland again I would eat here again. Service was ok. One if my favorite places - I have been going here for years! Princess chicken is my favorite dish here. I have tried many things and am never disappointed! Amazing Chinese diner concept. The atmosphere inside, and the dining room is very classy. The food is very diverse, from Chinese, to Japanese, to Thai/Vietnamese. I can't understand why some people aren't impressed, this is better than anything else in the area...by leagues. I've never been anywhere like this, even in bigger cities. It was a complete surprise. The price is very reasonable, almost criminally undervalued for what you get. It should be franchised. It blows Pei Wei away, and that's located in Detroit. read more

Should be rated higher on here than it is. This place always has a really long wait for a table because they're popular and don't have a lot of tables. From the outside it looks like it would be a fast food kind of place, but it isn't. Service is almost always good and they have a wide variety of menu options from various Asian cuisines, but I really wish they had a Szechwan chicken dish! This is our Asian restaurant of choice when we visit Midland...we just like Pi's Express better than the larger Pi's Restaurant. (Pi's Express, as might be expected from its name, has a shorter menu, and no buffet.) We've tried items from all the Asian cuisines represented here; our favorite things are the fresh rolls, the dumplings, the pho (I think it's called "Thai noodle soup" on the menu) -- my favorite cold-weather menu item -- and the bulgogi. I'm also a fan of the panang curry. The lettuce wraps are also very good most of the time, but occasionally the chicken is a bit on the dry side. (I like the Thai wraps; partner like's the Pi's wraps.) We are less impressed with the Japanese food; the sushi is indistinguishable from that at Meijer's down the street, and the tempura is "meh" -- heavy on the hard root vegetables, in our experience, and not enjoyable eating other than the shrimp. The Chinese dishes are pretty good. While this is, I think, intended to be a business-lunchtime/carryout move-em-in, move-em-out alternative to the larger Pi's, the atmoshere is actually quite nice inside, and if you don't mind the busy-ness around you, you can spend some quality time with family or friends here.(Warning: It does get very crowded at times.) Our experience of the service here is that it's either very good or very bad...on our last visit our waitperson was very attentive and professional, but there have been times when we've been waited on by pretty unskilled/sullen teenagers who weren't interested in customer service, or waitstaff I can only describe as hillbillies -- not the kind of waitpeople you'd expect here, even if it is an "express" restaurant. While searching Yelp for places to try in a new area we found this place. The menu allows for many different choice; from Thai, Korean and Chinese to name a few. The food is good while the spice/heat is missing from the designated dishes that should be hot. The dining area was clean and from what areas I saw of the kitchen it was also very clean. Out of 3 meals, 2 apps and 2 soups we only had an issue with one entrees. When we advised our server there was a hair in the meal she quickly removed the dish and went straight back to the kitchen. She returned very quickly to apologize and had removed our dish from the bill without any prompting or having to press the issue as in most places you must push to have something removed. We will be back to give this place a second chance because there were more positive things than negative. read more

Stopped in for a quick meal before going to a meeting. The service was quick and the food I thought was a fair value. I have been a fan of the full Pi's menu and the Sesame Chicken, Hot Sour soup, and crab meat/cheese was great. The wait staff seemed a little chatty with between themselves, but it didn't seem to hinder the service. I was in and out within 1/2 hour. I ordered the Laap (Thai Chicken Lettuce Wrap), which is a fairly simple dish to prepare, and waited until the rest of my table was nearly finished eating before I finally got served. The excuse I got from the manager was that "the grill was crowded", which was odd since the restaurant wasn't even full. After I said I wouldn't be back, we never saw our waitress or the manager again. How can you destroy fried rice? Ordered takeout of two meals of shrimp fried rice. Rice was mush with no seasoning whatsoever. Asked for extra sweet and sour sauce and was charged for it. Here is the kicker, if I hadn't asked for the extra that she stuck in the bag, I wouldn't have had any for the egg rolls. They gave us what appeared to taste like a southwest type sauce for the egg rolls. That was a first. Have no idea what that sauce was. Best advice.....check your takeout before you leave....no silverware either. In all honesty have eaten there about 8 times and it's been about 50/50 with the quality of the meal. The buffet there is absolutely amazing. They have everything. The kids love the cinnamon and sugar biscuits. The adults can chose from soups, sweet chicken and noodles, spicy chicken and noodles, on and on. Even those kids that are picky eaters love the food. Overall an amazing place. The service there is great. But if you get there on a busy night, it may take a little while before you can actually get a seat. It is totally worth the wait, though. read more

This is a pretty good Asian restaurant. I love the crabmeat cheese and yum yum sauce! The fried rice and hibachi meals are also very good! However, the wait can be a little excessive and the customer service could use some work. I can't believe this restaurant functions in such a tiny building. Tables are practically stacked on top of each other. And the pad Thai is less then authentic. I have been to areas of southeast Asia and this was light years away from what true pad Thai should taste like. I would definitely go back, but it's not my favorite place in town. read more

Buffet quality food at an elevated price. If your ordering take out, be aware that it will likely be wrong or missing items. They some how manage to consistently get our take out orders wrong. I have addressed this with management concerning my most recent take out order, and they were just downright rude to me! And they were the ones that messed up my order. The place is ok, my mom likes going there for the Bimbim bop which she gets vegetarian since myself and her are vegetarians. I normaly get the teriaki tofu which is alright. She has been friends with the Pi family for even longer. We even had them at our baby shower. After we had our child she wanted to end her leave and asked when she could come back. their response was we are not hiring and treated her like a complete stranger. A birth of a child is supposed to be the most celebrated event of your life. instead we are suffering under great distress and she feels betrayed. this is not a family oriented restaurant and they put on a façade or a mask for the public to see. they have many internal issues beyond this. the customer is not valued here nor is anyone else read more

We love Asian Express. Every time we are in Midland, we make it a point to stop at Asian Express. We can't speak on behalf of Pi's but we can speak on behalf of Gengi's. We order the same thing we order at Gengi's (Shrimp and Chicken or Steak and Shrimp) for half the price!!! Out of all the restaurants in Midland, we would choose Asian Express over all of them! LOVE this place and really missed it when we didn't live in Midland. We moved back a year ago, and have probably gotten takeout about 20 times since we've been back. Haven't eaten in the restaurant, so this is purely the for the takeout. We love the dishes and the service, even though on occasion they will get the order wrong. Not often, but it does happen. I would just like to say I worked for this place for 12 years. Many of which I gave the owner rides to hair appointments, work, etc because she doesn't have a license. I stuck around so long for my customers since they never offered benefits or raises as servers no matter how long you've been with them or how loyal you are. I recently went on maternity leave to have my baby..I left under good conditions and the owner ann pi even attended my baby shower and also came to the hospital when my son was born. .I would occasionally go in to asian express to eat. Since I had a c section, I wasn't quite ready to go back to work yet and I would be ask by ann and other employees including the one doing the schedule when I would be back. They told me take time with the baby its been slow no rush. Well after I was all healed and ready to leave baby so I could return to work, I was sent to pis property management for what I thought was to fill out paperwork for the new accountant. . Their manager (who had always been rude to me) says"what are you doing here? ?"..I said filling out paperwork so I can get back on the schedule. . She replied with "you mean application? And they aren't hiring" I thought it was some kind of joke but she called Ann Pi at Asian express and after she hung up, let me know she could take down my information. . As if I was some person that just walked off the street looking for a job. .I said I think you have my information I worked here 12 years! She said NOPE! I still have yet to get an explanation of why I don't have a job. Why these people that supposedly value their employees didn't even call me or give me any reason why they just left me with my new baby jobless.... this is what kind of people they really are! I would like everyone to know this and think about it when going to any of their establishments. . If they don't care about me they sure don't care about you.. it's whatever is convenient for them and all about the dollar signs apparently. Decided to order take out for dinner tonight two of us got the sesame chicken. This was literally the grossest thing I have ever had, it tasted like rotten recooked chicken (well they called it chicken). Not even sure if that was chicken it was brown and chunky. Please Asian express step up your game and stop serving inedible food. I had to throw it away and waste my money on trash. This place use to be a lot better but for some reason can't even cook sesame chicken and it's an Asian restaurant. Won't be coming here anymore for food absolutely disgusting. read more

I read some good reviews and some bad reviews but I figured I'd give pi's a chance well I couldn't have been more disappointed I went in to see the menu and when asked if I was ready to order I said thanks but I'm still looking Dont worry I'm in no hurry. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with vegetables and fried rice....somehow I got my order in about 4-5 mins now I know it's called pi's Asian express but I know it takes more than that time to cook fried rice let alone my chicken . I decided I wouldn't judge til I tasted it and I only love a mile away so my food was still warm but it all tasted like microwaved leftovers. And the vegetables were clearly microwaved they were nothing but steamed mush. I tried this place because I'm a fan of genjis and I know it's owned by the same owner. Now I know that for the price difference I can't expect the same quality but I've been to Asian buffets with better quality and buffet food is usually pretty low end so that says a lot read more

This is possibly the weirdest Asian restaurant I've ever been to. As an Asian person coming from a metropolitan area with a large Asian population (SF), I don't have any illusions about the quality of ethnic cuisine in the Midland area. This place is unique in its food selection. The menu basically covers the greatest hits of numerous southeast/south Asian countries instead of focusing on one region. We got pad thai and bugolgi during our first visit. The quality of food is nothing to write home about but the flavor is within the range of expectations. It's a bit pricey, but probably a decent place to go if you have specific cravings. read more
