How this place isnt 1000 stars is beyond me......favorite place ever! Love the staff, love the food

I have mixed reviews of this restaurant. I personally was excited to check out the sushi however my teens were less than thrilled. Service was typical of a small cafe with a few employees. We made a reservation as all the previous reviews I had read said that it it required. Our reservation was for the Thursday all-you-can-eat night. We thought it would have been packed but it wasn't. Sushi made onsite. Appetizer was a mixed plate of edamame, noodles, salad and a chicken skewer. We tried 6 different kinds. The spicy shrimp and California roll were easy favorites. Kids were not big fans of any of them. Maybe when they're older. We will see! read more

Rarely do I make a complaint but tonight's experience Fusion 1 Cafe... which use to be one of our favorite restaurants, was inexcusable. We waited almost 90 minutes to receive two appetizers and a single beer. There was zero communication about what was happening. We spoke to the server and she advised that Sandy was supposed to come tell us what was going on. Apparently, they prioritized those who had reservations and take out! What?! Funny thing is we were the only ones there when we ordered. The other table was already eating. When we questioned it and Sandy did come over she was arrogant and rude. When we expressed how disappointing that no one came to talk to us after so much time went by. She got angry and extremely mouthy. We canceled the order at this point. When we said it wasn't a good business practice she said we didn't need to come back and to fk off as she walked away flipping us off but only after charging us for what did show up. My son was sitting there for all of it. Such a professional. NOT! Well played and congratulations! I will drive to Midland before ever giving you another penny. Keep your food, your piss poor attitude and may karma find you. I hope people will spend their hard earned money someplace else and not with a business owner like this. PS the sushi chef is normally the greatest thing about this place, but even he can't fix what happened tonight. I don't and won't recommend this place ever again. read more

Courtesy and Service. Went for dinner, got seated and after 1:30 still did not have main course. After asking, we found out that because we didn't have a reservation others were getting food before us. This was never explained to us when seating us. The owner Sandy came over and was very rude, never apologized for not communicating, additionally charged us for what was provided and was happy to get us out. Advised us not to come back. I have never been anywhere where I was treated this badly for something they did. I never post reviews for anything, but I really felt disrespected and felt the need to post this review. read more

After seeing all of the amazing dishes posted on social media, I was very excited to try out this place. We made reservations for an early dinner and four of us went. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty. We received very slow service, unknowledgeable staff, and mediocre sushi - at best. All the sushi rolls taste the same, regardless of whether they are california rolls, spicy eel, etc, and all have an extremely thick layer of rice on the outside with hardly anything on the inside. There was absolutely nothing fancy about any of the rolls that we got. Nothing like the amazing presentation that you see online. Our service was extremely slow - with MUCH time spent just sitting and waiting - for drinks, food, sauce, refills, the bill, etc. To top it all off, the response that I received after bringing it to the attention of the owner was extremely rude. I wrote to them personally to try and avoid bashing their business, but when he responded with bigotry and arrogance, I have no choice but to warn others. read more

We got there a few minutes before our reservation got sat right away, took 15 minutes before we got drinks and another 15 minutes before we got miso soup and appetizers. When we finally got our sushi it was way to much rice and rice vinegar in the rice, barely any fish in the sushi, it wasn't any better than Meijer sushi to be honest, waste of money in my mind. read more

We stopped in the day after Valentine's Day to get a couple of sushi rolls to go and they refused to make us anything because they wanted to only take care of people in the restaurant. I understand being busy on Valentine's Day, but the restaurant was slow and we weren't asking for a lot. We were staying the night in a nearby bed and breakfast for my husband's birthday and wanted to grab something to enjoy in our suite. They said we could come back and they would maybe have more rice for us, but couldn't guarantee it. I will never come back here again after this. Update: On a side note, the person at the door could be heard talking to another server near the sushi prep area while we waited to see if we could get food saying, "They onnnlly wanted two rolls," in a snide tone. We would have tipped as well as if we were eating in and been repeat customers, but after seeing how you treat to go customers I'll pass. If you go to their Facebook page and look at how they respond to reviews it's disgusting. I'm glad I didn't give them my money after seeing how they talk to customers. Gordon Ramsey would have fun with this restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares. They act like they're an elite, big city sushi restaurant, but I've been to those and this is not one of them. read more

The best sushi in Bay City. Service was fine, so no complaints there. Great location. Good mix of beers and wines, and a variety of daily specials worth checking out. We had the seared tuna, the meso soup, the Asian noodle salad and a crunchy crab and tuna roll. Everything was freshly prepared, well-presented, and of an adequate portion size. This place shouldn't be in business. I don't know if their problem is laziness or incompetence or a combination of both. They have the weirdest hours and are basically only open when they feel like it. Maybe if the sushi was half way decent I could see having reservations but when you walk in and there's no one there but they won't seat you because you don't have a reservation, forget it. Save your money. Any place that serves all you can eat sushi clearly prioritizes quantity over quality. read more

Called for reservations was left on hold for 50 min (because I wanted to see how long the left me after 10 mins went by). All the ti.e I could hear them talking and laughing in background. I finally hung up drove 20 minutes to town now closed so messaged them, telling them how the left me. I have wanted to eat here for over a year but have been unable. Their response is phone and Internet wasn't working. When I said I could hear them their response was " Oh Well!!!" If that is how they feel about customers not getting my business and shouldn't get anyones. read more

Service was great, but I am only commenting on the sushi. The rolls are OK, but they all pretty much tasted the same, except the unagi roll - which really wasn't very good. If I go again, I will NOT do the all-you-can-eat. I will need to try the "fancier" rolls apparently. The salad and the miso soup were very delicious, and we had the salmon carpaccio which was super fresh, albeit a special order item and not on the menu any longer. I do not feel they are that unique, so their claim of having unique hours is not genuine when they didn't seem to have anything but tuna and salmon as the sushi/sashimi picks. Serving maguro is great, but what kind? There are seven different types. I want hamachi, hirame, ohyou, suzuki, etc. to choose from for sashimi or nigiri. The sake was ridiculously priced, but that might be because we are in Michigan. I paid $35 for what would have easily been (if not less) than $10 somewhere else. I was super excited for my date night with my husband and no doubt we had a terrific night, but this will not be a restaurant we go to in the near future. read more

The rolls here are about 1/2 the size I'm used to seeing when I go to a real sushi place. They charge $10 for shrimp tempura roll here and they are like $5 in Novi. Did not see an option for seaweed on the outside of the roll or fish eggs or low sodium soy sauce. I wasn't offered any free hot tea and that's normal anywhere else. Also no scallop rolls which are one of my favorites. Not really sure why it takes forever for them to make the rolls.... I'm used to seeing 4 rolls made in like 2 minutes or less. This guy puts on his chalk board that he isn't fast food. I never really considered any other sushi place fast food but thanks for pointing that out. If you're in a hurry to catch a movie in 30 minutes, this isn't the place to go for that because it will take that long just to get drinks. For 2 people it's going to cost about $45 w/tip. read more

Five star in tri city area. This tiny restaurant in bay city doesn't open every day, but they are known for their all you can eat sushi. Their sushi is simple but very good. Even the vegetarian rolls are very special. The all you can eat sushi also comes with miso soup and a noodle salad. I should emphasize their miso soup is much more authentic than other japanese / asian restaurant in midland-saginaw-bay city (eg, genji in midland, hello sushi in saginaw). I will say they have the best sushi and miso soup in the tri-city area. Make sure you make a reservation for sushi. Fusion one also has a very good banana foster dessert. Food was good. Wait staff was rude, busy Thursday night and only two waitresses on site. Went for all you can eat sushi, but they don't tell you about the automatic 20% gratituty in the ad. Can't divy up your bill when it comes to the end of the night, so don't plan on coming with a bunch of people to pay separately. Waited 45 mins for soup and salad. Probably never going back. The 20% guaranteed gratituty gives the waitresses a reason to be lazy imho. read more

Our first time trying this restaurant for Sushi, and we found it to be very good. We went when they opened at 11:30 so we were seated and waited on quickly. The waiter was helpful with the menu, answering all our questions. The Asian noodle salad was great and the three sushi rolls we tried were definitely filling as well as tasty. The fusion sauce, similar to Yum Yum, was good, if on the spicy side. Afterwards the waiter told us about the new Chocolatier shop that had opened next door. So we skipped dessert and went for the dArk chocolate covered fruit next door. We will definitely return to both places. read more

This is one of Bay City's gems. Been going here ever since my husband and I stumbled upon this place when we attended the first Tall Ships Festival almost 20 yrs ago. Outstanding dining and service. The food is always flavorful and the presentation is spot on. The owner is super nice as well as the staff. Whenever I've requested something special, they always go out of their way to fulfill it. It reminds me of cafes we've been to in Chicago. Highly recommend!! read more

Presentation was mediocre, the sushi wasn't very good, and fish bones were found in some pieces. The women on the phone was nice, but the owner I delt with was very rude. They only take cash on Tuesdays, refused our gift card, and they're hours are unaccommodating. We have tried on multiple occasions to come in for dinner to only find out they were closed, or done excepting tables for the night 2 hours before they were supposed to close. I ordered lunch from here recently and was mildly disappointed. The miso soup was very good and a large portion, but could have used a little more tofu because there was only one small piece. I ordered the log jam salad without chicken or bacon, and was hoping that there would be at least a moderately large amount veggies to make up for the lack of meat, considering the price of the salad has been raised up towards the $9 range. My hopes were misplaced. The salad had 3 slices of cucumber, 3 small piece of avocado and three medium sized pieces of tomato. There was an adequate amount of gorgonzola cheese and the dressing was tasty, but it was basically a minimal amount of lettuce and veggies underneath. Did not get to actually eat there so this is not based on their food but in their customer service. Called ahead and asked if there was a wait. The worker said no but the tables were full so there would be a short wait. We went there and they asked for our reservation name. I was not told I needed on. The worker made it seem like if we came now and waited we could be seated next. Just like every other restaurant. Then the woman when we got there acted like we were weird for not having a reservation. Rude service and uneducated workers answering the phone. Just went here for the first time for lunch. Since it was buy one roll, get one free, I figured there was minimal investment. The good: for 16 pieces of sushi, $6.00 is a great price! The service was very friendly and welcoming. The flavor of the sushi was fairly fresh and true to what you would expect. The decor is not too bad on the eyes: spring green walls, wood furniture, Japanese decorations, etc. The not-so-good: I tried calling 5 times to place an order because the phone line was busy constantly, yet when I went inside, the place was dead. The sushi was very bare-bones: fish, rice, seaweed, and sauce. I would have liked veggies such as avocado or cucumber, but I suppose since its BOGO, the extras aren't included. Also, it was cash only today, but I hope it isn't like that for dinner! I'll have to try again and update! read more

The only thing this place is a fusion of was bad food and terrible service. My husband and I called for a reservation for the all you can eat sushi because there aren't that many here in Michigan. When we got there it took 40 minutes for us to be seated. Service was impeccably slow. There were like 2 waiters in the entire place and they were rude. I read the reviews prior to coming which pretty much said order as much as you can because when you get there because it'll take them forever to get back to you if you want more food, and so we did. The sushi was nothing special. In fact it was pretty much just rice balls. There is little to no variety in the options. We were so disappointed. There was like one sushi chef, which was some white guy in some Japanese headband who looked like he was stressed out. Save yourself the money and the trip. It's not worth it. read more
