This place is great. Been looking for a new sushi place with an emphasis on wanting somewhere that's takeout. I don't know why, but when I get takeout from my usual dine-in sushi place, it loses something when I eat it at home, out of a plastic container. So I wanted somewhere I knew as takeout only. I've been getting manicures lately at the nail salon two doors down, and Pisces kept catching my eye. They're not open on Fridays or Saturdays, so I kept missing them (Friday is my usual manicure day). Last night I didn't feel like cooking so we went and got four rolls - California, Spicy Tuna Crunchy, Salmon, and Spicy Scallop. This cost us $34.90 (mid-reasonable IMO). The rolls were good-sized. The Spicy Tuna Crunchy was out of this world delicious. I also loved the Spicy Scallop. Sara was extremely nice and friendly, and I felt happy to be supporting her small business finally after wanting to go there for such a long time. read more

I was looking for sushi close to El Segundo and yelped this place. Went for lunch on Memorial Day and parking sucked. So badly. But what do you expect if you're going by the beach on a holiday in Manhattan Beach? The food here was SO good. Their fish tasted super fresh. My friend ordered the unagi sushi and it was definitely the biggest piece of unagi I've ever seen on a nigiri (apparently it was bomb as well). The rolls were very good as well. It's mostly a takeout place and the shop is really small and cute. They do have a couple of small bars though, if you want to eat there (which I did). The service was super friendly. My trip to pisces sushi started off awkwardly. We came into order take out (note: I had called and tried to order the night before to no avail...turns out they are closed friday and saturday) We were told our sushi would be ready in 15 minutes but that we had to wait outside because the two open seats were "reserved for other customers..." O....K..... Maybe I am bitter because it was a particularly chilly night. Also the phantom "other customers" didn't show up in the 20 minutes we sat outside. So we finally got our sushi and took it home. So here's what we had: Miso Soup: The miso soup was really good. Filled with onions, tofu seaweed. YUM Crunchy spicy tuna roll: Was everything yelpers had led me to expect. Delicious! Cruncy spicy tempura: Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. Albacore roll: My fiance added this one at the last minute. Ending up being the one we fought over for the last piece. It had a yummy spicy sauce on it. So good! Overall will definitely be back here but will call to order first. If you want some GREAT sushi, go to Pisces Sushi. This is a little joint, no room to really sit, but if you call ahead of time and order the Spicy Crunchy tuna roll, you will be very pleased. I have not tried anything else, I am hooked on this cruncy roll, it's so A-B-C-Delicious!!! It's not far from the hizzy, so its worth the little drive. Best sushi in town. This is literally the best most freshest sushi in town! Now hear me out folks, this is a one man shop literally a "couple" most nicest people in the world. The wife takes the orders and the husband makes the sushi, so if you don't get served right away or acknowledged just know they are working hard in the back either for your food or someone else's! Small hole on the wall located on Highlander. Easy to miss so keep your eyes open for the small sign. When you walk in, to the left is the kitchen window partially blocked by boxes of what I assume to be ingredients used in the sushi. To the right there a bar like table that seats about 3 people and a register where you place your order. This place is a hidden gem and a true whole in the wall but expect nothing less than amazing sushi. My first time there I tried the spicy tuna crunchy roll and the shrimp tempura crunchy roll. We grabbed it to go and headed out to Manhattan beach Pepe to enjoy linner with the sound of crash waves. While the view was great, I wish I stayed at the cramped restaurant in order to buy more. Both rolls were amazing and you can easily taste how fresh everything is. The spicy Tuna isn't overbearing with spicy but has the perfect amount of kick. The tempura was fried and rolled into perfection. Both rolls are roughly 10 dollars but I would have to say that it was worthy every penny. read more

I'm still baffled by Pisces Sushi. As the other reviews explain, the place is more of a store front, and most of their business comes through take out. There are only four chairs in the restaurant, but my fiance and I were able to grab two of them. BUT, the sushi is sooo- good. And we were pleasantly surprised when they said they serve saki and Sapporo. Sara runs the front, and is a sweetheart; however, I have to give the place 4 stars because she is a bit overwhelmed and we ended up waited 20 minutes for our drinks. All in all, I would absolutely recommend this place for take-out sushi. The fish is fantastic quality and they have the BEST miso soup we have EVER had. The miso soup gets 6 stars. read more

This is my favorite place in the Southbay for sushi. All their rolls are great, but their other items are good too. The miso is yummy and I would go there for their house green salad (sesame dressing) alone. Their food is definitely a 5 star review, however this is mostly a takeout place as they have seats for approximately 6 people and I have yet to wait less than 10 extra minutes for my order, once I get there, even though I show up late, knowing my order will not be ready. Hands down best use ever, and i Love sushi. The chirashi bowl is a must, sushi is so buttery and I ate it a day later! The seaweed salad is awesome.. The spicy tuna crunchy roll was good the next day and the miso soup is good. Warning: good food equals long wait. The 5 stars is for the sushi alone.. Unfortunately because they are so popular and busy the wait is outrageous. So if you are impatience and in a hurry don't come here.. It's definitely Togo place.. Love this place!!! We only order to go. Sara, the lady who takes the orders, is very polite. She has a heavy accent but tries her best to review the order with you, before hanging up the phone. Sushi is always fresh, good portions and reasonably priced. The only downside is that on a busy night, you order can take up to an hour to be ready for pick up. I believe the place is run by two people, and they have a high demand. We haven't dine in yet, I don't care too much for the seating situation, it's too small and I would feel uncomfortable as most of their customers order for takeout and they are standing there waiting for their orders. Not many restaurants meet the expectation of the rating. But man oh man was the food good. At first glance , it's a really small shop only able to sit about 4 people and two more outside. Most places that are like this are a hole in a wall that can be hit or miss. The food really hit the spot. Best kept sushi secret in the South Bay- prices are extremely reasonable, and the sushi portions are very generous. The fish was very, very fresh, and the rolls were delicious. We had the yellowtail, salmon, spicy crunchy tuna roll (my new favorite), rainbow roll, and salmon special roll, and the total was $35. More than enough food for two people! We did wait about 20 minutes, so would recommend calling ahead for pickup next time. The owner was EXTREMELY friendly and very sweet, can't say enough about this place. Ever since Octopus closed some time back, I've been searching for a sushi joint that serves extremely fresh fish. I've passed by Pisces hundreds of times (usually on our way to Poncho's) and for some reason never stopped in since it always seemed closed. Well, last night I was craving sushi and looked it up on Yelp. The reviews were so positive that I decided to give it a shot. Thank God I did as I was EXTREMELY impressed! Here's what we ordered... Spicey Tuna Crunch Roll - Delicious and filling. Balanced flavoring with lots of kick. Yellow Tuna Sushi - Freshest I've had in years. Albacore Sushi - My favorite of the night. Like butter! Tuna Sushi - Simple and how tuna should taste! Tomago - Rich with a nutmeg finish. Almost like a dessert. The place is small but was perfectly cozy for a cold foggy evening. It seemed like this was more of a takeout type place. Lots of people stepping in and out to grab their food. The staff was SO nice and the food came out in about 10 min. Apparently they just started being open on Friday and Saturday. Smart move. I usually only get Sushi on weekends so this is great. And the prices are totally reasonable! I love this place. Just ate here for the first time and the sushi was DELICIOUS! The yellowtail and salmon are one of my favorites Very, fresh and tasty. We also got the eel roll, which was also very good. The place is tiny with a small counter with bar stools meant more for take out. Had lunch here today. The couple running the place seemed very nice, but we're also running around like crazy. Not sure if it's always like that as this was my first visit, but it did have me waiting for a lot of things and extended my stay. Luckily, I had a long lunch, so I wasn't in a rush. Docked a bit of this. Intimate is an understatement. 4 bar seats inside and a two-top outside. I wouldn't recommend more than a party of 1-2. I order the chirashi bowl. It had your standard fare sashimi: salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, albacore, and (not so standard) some medium toro. Healthy sized but single pieces of each. Fish quality was good. Just don't expect any uni, aji, etc. I also had the miso soup. Other reviewers weren't kidding. TONS of green onions. I'm on the fence whether I liked that fact... and I do like me some onions. Food is a solid 4. Service would have been a 2, but I'll give it a 3 because they're so nice. So 3.5 stars. I'm rounding up to 4 since I have a gut feeling that the service was an anomaly and 3 stars doesn't seem accurate for this spot. read more

Can't say enough about this little hidden treasure! It is a small, family run establishment and everything is made with love and the highest quality ingredients. I cannot get enough of the spicy ramen and yellowtail (sushi, sashimi,roll,you name it), but they have something for everyone. It isn't inexpensive/cheap and they don't have a gimmicky "happy hour" but I don't mind paying when it's high quality and consistently delicious! Tip #1: They get really busy at night so if you get a craving order early because they will stop taking orders. This place is really a "hole in the wall". The restaurant itself can' t fit more than 6 persons at a time and has no air-conditioning. My girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try due to a quick glance at the 5 star rating... Overall not a 5 star establishment. The service is very friendly but it took nearly an 20 minutes to receive our food despite us being the only customers in the restaurant. The spicy crunchy tuna roll was very good, the rainbow roll was warm and disappointing. At best this is a great spot for locals but definitely not a necessary place to check out in Manhattan Beach. The best Japanese restaurants in town! I used to work in Hermosa Beach, and I remember always having to go to Yelp everytime I wanted to eat sushi. Because all the sushi place around that area is not to my satisfactory. Came here on my day off with a friend. We saw the good Yelp review and decided to give it a try. The best decision we ever made! The place didn't look like a sushi restaurant at all. It's a small place. When we walked in, we thought we were in the wrong place. It's always so fresh, served with not just kindness but humility, which goes over the top in terms of customer service and is so respectable.
