Ordered lunch take out yesterday.. Went to pick up no internet so they didn't have the order completed. I pulled up the order on my phone and she wrote it down.. After I received my order and opened at home . My tofu and veggie curry with fried rice and veggie dumplings had no tofu, no fried rice and meat in the dumplings. I am so done with this place.. I'm trying to figure out why it has taken me so long to try this restaurant? The place I was going to prior has either gone under new management or just decided to make changes which have unfortunately affected their level of service and quality of food. But onto this great place. I decided to play it safe and try out their lunch specials. Being indecisive, I opted for the Thai fried rice and the drunken noodles. They have several protein options along with a vegetable option, and they have a scale of 1 to 5 for heat level. What I like about their lunch special is you have an option for soup with two dumplings or spring rolls. If you decide to leave the soup out, you can get four spring rolls or four dumplings instead of the two. The portion size along with the extras was perfect. I was able to enjoy one today and I'm saving the other for tomorrow. I enjoyed all of the flavors that stand out in Thai food: ginger, chilies, garlic, and basil. Picked this place as I have been before and had a great experience. Not sure if it has changed hands, or server was having an off night...but went with 3 girlfriends on a weekday last week. We had a reservation, and we hadn't seen each other in over 2 years so we were excited to catch up. When I arrived I walked in and mentioned the reservation and she pointed to a table instead of walking me to it. After we were seated the service got worse. She was short, impolite and sometimes rude. It felt we were inconveniencing her by being there. Two of my friends said their food was overly salty. She came when we were done with meals and said "ready to pay?" And we asked about a dessert menu. She said "we have 2 desserts, fried banana and mango sticky rice" and said it in a way she hoped we wouldn't order it. One of my friends ordered the banana. While the dessert was still on the table and barely touched, she brought the bill, and we weren't yet ready to leave so we were chatting. A few minutes later she brought the scanning device to pay so we thought, ok we better pay. We did, and tipped well in spite of everything. As we were wrapping up our conversation she came back to our table at 8:45 and said "just so you know we close in 15 minutes". Incredibly rude. When you order something with beef, it would be nice to get more than 6 little pieces that couldn't have been more than 3 ounces in the whole dish. Pad Thai was bland AF. Enroute to Cambridge, MA, Exit 59 off the Merritt Parkway is our mid-point for travel. We've been stopping off this exit for years, but hadn't discovered Thai Stories until our recent travel this past week. The food was very good. They offer a lunch menu, which consists of a main along with choice of soup (Tom yum or Coconut) and appetizer (spring roll, dumplings or salad). The lunch specials are priced between $10-14. A bit on the higher side for a lunch special. The chicken entrees were priced in the same range. Since, I wasn't in the mood for apps and soup, I went for an entree portion. And we also ordered two lunch specials. The entree portion contains about twice as much food as the lunch special. I loved the interior. I'm huge into photography and absolutely loved all the real life photographs adorning the walls of elephants, children,monks and other visuals that transport you to Thailand. From the old exterior of this strip mall, you would never know what lies behind the front door. Looking forward to my next Cambridge trip and lunch at Thai Stories. read more

Stopped in Thai Stories for an early dinner after a Southern CT football game. Noticed right away how clean and nicely decorated it was. The staff was attentive but not overly so, which is good. Nothing worse than someone standing by your table or interrupting every other minute. There were 6 of us we ordered one appetizer which came out relatively quick, and the entrees after app plates were removed. Everyone loved their entrees. I showed the waitstaff the menu Item I ordered and they had no response, they clearly told the kitchen to make the wrong soup they had no solutions. We had the Thai sampler, pad Thai, and rice noodle soup. I would rate these (out of 5) , 3.8, 3.4, and 4 (per my daughter) , respectively. I would give them around a 3.5. The food was good, but I've had somewhat better. The waitstaff were ok, not bad. It may have been bc we were there at the end of the night and people were tired. Definitely a swing and a miss. I really wanted to like this place because it's close to home and so many people said good things about it. I honestly can't give this place a good review in any category. My problems started when I tried to make a reservation. Their online reservation system only accepts reservations for 5-10 people so I had to call. It took nearly 10 minutes, first because I was asked to hold while she tended to a customer. Every time she returned to me, and I started to speak, she then told me just a minute and continued with the customer who was in front of her. When she finally focused on me, there was a huge language barrier. I repeatedly told her the date and time and number of guests but she kept asking me again and again. I finally got through to her and asked her to repeat it because, by that point, I just didn't trust that she had gotten it right. Thankfully she did, since it was my friend's birthday and I was taking her to lunch to celebrate. When we arrived, the place was full, which I took to be a good sign. We got the last table and looked at the menu. Lots of good choices, for the most part, but limited vegetarian options. The lunch special was out because the soups both contained meat and/or fish. We decided to split a papaya salad and order 2 entrees. This was also not feasible. While not listed on the menu, we were informed that the salad contained fish sauce. I am not a Thai cook, so I can't explain why papaya salad needs fish sauce, but I can tell you that we couldn't get it without it. We decided to skip straight to the entree. My meal was solidly disappointing. I should have known better when I ordered and she smiled and said "healthy." I ordered the param special and received a dish with some steamed vegetables, and 4 triangles of uncooked, room temperature, tofu, with peanut sauce and white rice on the side. I had to ask for a second dish to plate the rice and vegetables on. Come to think of it, we had to ask for everything. My friend was horrified and asked if that was what I was expecting. I asked if the tofu could be stir fried or anything could be done with it and I was told "that's the style." I buried it in the other stuff but it was definitely not enjoyable. I decided that I would figure out what to do with it when I got home. We both asked for extra peanut sauce. We got 1 ramekin in the middle of the table and had to ask for another. That's when the server's smile started to fade. When it came time to wrap our leftovers, I asked for plastic containers. She had brought them to the next table (along with cardboard and a small metal container with a plastic lid). We got 2 cardboard containers. I had deliberately asked for plastic because I didn't want to deal with a leaking mess and I had a lot to pack into it. She took away the cardboard and came back with 2 metal containers. That worked for my friend, but it was too small for my meal. I asked, for the third time, for a plastic container. I finally got it. Good thing too because after putting the rice in the bottom, it was a tight fit for the rest. I should tell you that I almost never complain about a place but this place really worked hard to get me to right a negative review. I also tend to overtip. I always start with 20% and work upward for excellent service. Today's tip was closer to 10%. Dining out should not be this much work. Next time I will stick with the places that I know are good. read more

I stumbled onto the place needing a quick bite in an area I didn't know much about. It was a welcome find! It's a warm and inviting space with cute tables and nice atmosphere. And I enjoyed the Thai food. First up was a new dish for me: veggie pancake (kui chai). It was deep fried awesomeness. I was only going to have a few bites but bite after bite was far more delicious (and probably a bit unhealthy) than I could resist. Yum. I then had the drunken lemongrass chicken specialty dish. Wasn't quite sure what was so different, but this was a very good drunken noodle dish with chicken on the side. The noodles weren't too sweet and served hot! The chicken was a little too cooked for my taste but pretty good overall. Service was friendly and efficient with water glasses filled without inquiry (a big plus in my book). The crab ragoons own's are all made with real crab meat inside. And the rice balls and foe soup is out of this world.. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in Woodbridge, Thai Stories doesn't look like much from the outside, but it has very good Thai food. For those who want to dine in, the ambience is warm and comfortable. Their appetizer sample is delicious and an excellent value at $12 with various rolls and chicken satay and several dipping sauces. Their Tom Yum soup is first rate, the best I've hearin the New Haven area. The drunken noodles with ground chicken are also the best I've had in a long time. I do not recommend the drunken noodles specialty, topped with a very dry chicken breast, but everything else we've ordered, from eggplant to hot basil with beef, has been very good indeed. They have recently added some soups to their menu, including Pho and a duck noodle soup that sounds delicious. I am looking forward to trying both. I have eaten at several Thai restaurants in the New Haven area, and this is most definitely up there with the best of them. update: I tried the duck soup, which was good but not great. Ordered the following Spring rolls - v good Vegetable dumplings- v good Thai fried rice - great Drunken noodles - amazing Pad Thai - very disappointing Came with curry rice - amazing The vegetables in every dish were crunchy which means fresh!! I Always want that in any dish. The drunken noodles were incredible along with the Thai fried rice. I was shocked and disappointed at the pad Thai - even smelled strange. I be been to probably 20 Thai restaurants in my life - all have made good to great pad Thai except this one. Really hoping it was a one off occurrence because the kids love pad Thai. I hope they can get it right. There was a sign on the door - they raised prices on October 7th - this is actually a good thing. I don't want the business compromising the quality of ingredients or hiring sub par workers or have them cut corners. Businesses had a real tough time during Covid and the fact that inflation is everywhere is yet another blow, so I'm willing to pay for quality. So I have to say this place was a staple for my family and I! It's on the way home from work and it was very good. A lot has changed since the pandemic a few years ago. We tried a few times since and during. The most recent was about a week ago! The quality of the food has declined and the prices are through the roof. Sadly I will say that we are done and moving on. We spent 134 dollars on the last meal (family of 4) crazy high prices. We had 2 orders of the chicken satay and the chicken was dry dry dry! My wife had the drunken chicken, it was watery and lacked flavor. Not terrible but again not what it used to be. I got the pho, it was almost 20 dollars and they had the audacity to give me a small pint. That was ridiculous and it had a horrible flavor. If you eat pho , you get it. Daughter had fried rice with no vegetables. She said it was not the same flavors. We were very disappointed and unfortunately that was the last chance. It's just lacking the old Thai stories quality. Again for those prices , mind you picking up, not Uber or door dash, and it's ridiculous the amount of money they charge. My first time ordering food from this place. Their lunch deal is a great deal. You get to choose from soup, an appetizer, and a main dish. I went with Tom Yum, Dumplings, and Pad Thai noodles. I am not a big fan of mushrooms so I could only choose that or coconut. I am not a fan of coconut either but I choose the Tom Yum it was spicy which is nice and the shrimps were massive, and delicious. The dumplings were perfect they give you two one shrimp, and one chicken both were great! The main dish was very good. I am not used to eating so much noodles but they packed in the chicken and had some decent shrimp inside, again massive! I took my daughter out to dinner here tonight as a special treat. We were excited to try a new restaurant. We couldn't believe when we walked in that we were seated right away there was only one other family in the restaurant. We ordered vegetable tempura to start and it came with a delicious spicy chili sauce. I like that very much. My daughter ordered a pad Thai for her dinner. She liked it very much and was able to bring half of it home for her lunch for tomorrow.
