We are local, and eat at this restaurant frequently. It is convenient and the food is good. Normally, the staff is friendly and efficient. However, one rude waitress can spoil an otherwise good experience. It's a tough job, and anyone can have a bad day. When it happens on several occasions over a period of time, this person needs to find another profession. Last night, after being rude to one of our guests, she came to our table with a "confrontation/apology" that insulted the whole table! She told us that she was the wife of "one of the part owners." That must be why she still works there. As far as we are concerned, it was the 'last straw'. If we return to the Pit Stop and she is there, we will get back in the car and drive to Hillsville or Mt. Wow, the name, location and appearance are very deceiving. This place should be named Must Stop. Visited early on a Sunday afternoon. About 4 tables occupied at the time. We ordered a calzone and a Stromboli. The food was delivered quickly. Wife ordered the Stromboli and specifically requested green peppers be added. It appeared as though they gave her a double portion of onions and NO green peppers. I requested a couple of additional toppings on my calzone which were added, albeit sparingly. Those issues aside, the flavor was wonderful. Both items were baked to perfection. A table next to us had ordered pizzas that looked loaded, and tempting. We recommend this restaurant, but I would expect it to be very busy during mealtimes. read more

Just 5 minutes from the highway a good place to eat with outdoor sitting. We ordered Greek calzone and chicken sandwich , must say good portion for both. The chicken sandwich had options for fries , onion rings. I enjoyed the onion rings which were really crispy. We sat outside but happened to notice the interiors and have several hung number plates and made the inside look different and good. I love pit stop and the family that own it are good people. and that is why I wish I could leave a better review. today I decided to dine in with my boyfriend it was decently busy but nothing too bad. we sat ourselves and ordered mozzarella sticks with extra ranch and a 10" 4 cheese pizza. we were very confused on which one of these young ladies were our server since they were switching back and forth taking care of us one of the waitresses had a table of her friends that she would sit with in-between running food etc. they were very loud and we found it slightly disrupting. whenever she brought our food she practically threw it down on the table and walked away back to the table with her friends i didn't get the chance to ask the the ranch I didn't get after a few minutes of awkward eye contact with both servers I walked to the bar and asked for it. the mozzarella sticks were amazing as always and the cheese was nice and melted on both the pizza and the mozzarella sticks and the homemade ranch is one of the whole reasons I choose pitstop The food has always been amazing in my opinion but this place needs better and friendlier help. read more

Great pizza with the best crust. We usually order the Pitstop Pizza with Sausage, Pepperoni and Mushrooms. Sometimes we will order a Greek Salad. The service is fine but a couple waitresses are inexperienced. We have to ask for plates. Then they don't bring utensils or napkins. But their attitude is good. read more

I recently visited this one of a kind restaurant during my travels to the Virginia mountains. The food was great!! Everything is made to order. My family and I ordered a vegetable calzone, fried mushrooms, lasagne, garlic knots with cheese, grilled shrimp over rice and vegetables, and side salads. All was delicious!! !Nothing was disappointing! The customer service provided by Kristina and Lauren was very welcoming, professional, and friendly! I didn't get to meet the manager Beth personally at the time but I did get a glimpse at her while she was eagerly working in the back getting orders out. Been here many times. More then half orders have been wrong but let it ride. Today will be my last visit. Ordered through slice, which is the only way to order, without calling in. Arrived for my order, told three people my name and waited. It was an hour from order being placed just to find out it wasn't ready. Asked for refund but was told I needed to call slice. No refund was given. Apologies do not help this matter. I am waiting almost an hour and a half later for my food. read more

Great place with an expansive menu despite what someone driving by would imagine. His meat calzone was a generous portion and had a great bake. My fettuccine with Alfredo and ham was cooked perfectly, quite flavorful and came with a fresh side salad and garlic bread. They were busy but we spent the time driving the surrounding hills. We were passing through, were hungry and this place had good reviews and was close to freeway. We walked in and there was nobody else dining in, but a few were waiting for take out. Hmmm...bad sign? The waitress was friendly and said she was by herself but would be right over. We decided to stay and we ordered calzones. He ordered his exactly as it was on the menu but I asked if I could eliminate a few items from mine and was told of course. When our order came my calzone had only the three items I didn't want. I hunted down the waitress and told her the problem, but said I didn't want to wait another half hour for a new one and we would just share the one. She came back a minute later apologizing again and said they could have a new one ready in 5 minutes. I thanked her and agreed...but wish I wouldn't have. The 2nd one was loaded with green pepper which was one of the items I didn't want and the sausage, at least I think it was sausage??? was grayish and tasted funky. She never asked how it was and I didn't bother telling her that one was also wrong. Maybe it was an off night? Based on this one experience I can't recommend this place. read more

Tried to find a decent restaurant that actually lives up to NY style pizza and subs like my family is used to after moving to this area. They seemed to have a nice little restaurant and friendly staff, but unfortunately we were sadly disappointed to find yet again another restaurant that we were not too impressed with their food. Pizza was very bland and the crust tasted like store bought pizza dough. Overall everything lacked in flavor. Hubby and I stopped in for breakfast. The menu offers turkey bacon and turkey sausage. Unfortunately there are not pork alternatives available. Seems odd considering this is Southern Virginia. Hubby ordered pancakes. They were very large (think plate sized) but were doughy and lacked flavor. He received a condiment cup of syrup for two pancakes. He reported the coffee was weak and lukewarm. I ordered a classic omelette with hash browns and the biscuit with gravy. The omelette was good - not great- but good. Full of veggies, ham and cheese. The hash browns were lukewarm and I don't think they were 100% done - limp and white. The biscuit with gravy - well it was lukewarm as well. The interesting part is when we arrived there was one other couple who had finished their breakfast and was chatting up the waitress. We waited a good amount of time to receive the food -certainly longer than I would think considering the cook was only cooking two meals. We both left most of the food uneaten (other than my omelette). I'm pretty sure we won't be going back for breakfast. The waitress was pleasant enough but not overly attentive. read more

The food was great! We weren't expecting much at this renovated gas station but we were pleasantly surprised by the flavors of the Italian food here. The marinara sauce was a dark, rich red with great flavor. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The location is just off both I-77 and BRP.
