I ordered from the South Elgin location: The price tag is higher here- through Door Dash, it was $2.00 more than on menu, and this was a rare splurge meal so I get a little extra cranky when disappointed, but here it is: It tasted decent to me, not better than other places I've been that charge less, and honestly I like Naf Naf better ‍‍ Lame taste buds?? I dunno. The amount of chicken they gave was decent - they didn't skimp, and it was pretty tender. This location doesn't accept special instructions through Door Dash, so I couldn't ask for more tahini sauce and there wasn't enough for me. If you order this, it's 3.50 extra for pita and hummus (they did put in a pita anyway though) - overall a pricey meal that I didn't find especially tasty - not bad - just not worth it to me. Also, the picture is not their food, you get plain basmati rice but not the tasty yellow version as pictured. Wrote a positive review over 5 years ago, but today went back for a quick bite to bring home. As a former restaurant owner myself I noticed it was stinky and quite warm inside. Waited awhile to order my food, only one lady making food while several people were waiting for theirs. Ordered the mixed shawarma, hummus and pita with some extra garlic sauces. Food was ok and the hummus was very oily. The garlic sauce was very much watered down. The rice was very good. I may go back or I may not!! read more

I was very excited when I was driving by and saw this place. I've been living here for a while so I'm surprised I missed it. I was excited to to get homemade lentil soup. The soup was actually what caused me to go there! Unfortunately, when I arrived they said they no longer have soup on the menu. I was disappointed but I figured I would try something else. Their cash register and phone Base looked really dirty! So I almost left. They should really clean that! I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, regular fries and hummus. I was really let down by the hummus which I ate first. I feel like it lacked flavor and it was something that special you're looking for. The fries were perfect. Homemade real potatoes which I loved. Some things they do well. Some are pretty sorry. The best thing on the menu is the Falafel. It's really quite good. The Spicy Chili Chicken is also quite tasty. Then things go downhill. Not keen on their Shawarma. It's dry and flavorless. I threw away the side of hummus after one spoonful. Adequate texture, unpleasant to the taste. The owner / manager older Women with a head cover took the order and it took the cook 10min to start the order because he was busy making rice... I asked for a side of Tahini and Hot Sauce... didn't get any. Owner was eating behind the counter very unprofessional and unsanitary! Place is dirty and a good safety inspector should pay them a visit. We I got home the Falafel we not cooked all the way because the cook was rushing... They've an ad outside advertising about a $7.95 lunch. When I checked inside, it's for a veggie option only. The rest of the option is more than $7.95. I ordered the combo lunch. My wife opted for the steak shawarma wrap. Flavor's good on both meals. Would I go again? Sure. I discovered Maz Mez Middle Eastern Grill when I worked in Schaumburg, IL. It's where I go for a similar meal I get from Pita BBQ. If you're in Elk Grove Village, try Maz Mez. I wish Maz Mez is closer to Gilberts but it isn't. Another place I'd go to because it's good and closer is Larsa's Kitchen located in Elgin. 4 stars or 3 stars? You decide for yourself. read more

Best I have had in the area. Falafel are legit made to order and it shows because they are phenomenal. Crisp outsides, soft moist insides, and with great flavor. My 11 year old son ate 5 in addition to his chicken kabob sandwich. Husband had chicken shwarma with rice and also ate a couple falafel. He said it was great too! I had baba ganoush and falafel- both amazing. Will Definitely go back! So, one sandwich, one dinner plate, an order of baba ganoush, and 12 falafel (which is 3 orders) and it was $29. No drinks. We have been coming here for years however, recently their food and service are really starting to decline. The last two times our pitas were forgotten from the plates, which honestly make the the dish way less appealing. Managers offered a free drink and a falafel order. The meat has become increasingly dry and hummus is lacking flavor. There falafels are good but I have had better. I'm not saying their food is bad, we have had our fair share of good food however, have been disappointed the last several times. This is a great place for some good Mediterranean type of food! I got the combo platter (comes with chicken shawarma, chicken thigh kebab, beef kebab, and beef shawarma. There's also a falafel, rice, salad, and a pita. Not to mention I got 3 amazing sauces. The food was very flavorful and the meats were tender and not dry. The portion size was pretty hefty! The red spicy sauce is actually pretty spicy so that was a pleasant surprise. The garlic sauce is vey rich and packed with garlic flavor. The cucumber sauce is refreshing and cool. While I would like to give Pita BBQ three and a half stars, I am giving it four because of my 11 year old son. We have had food from Pita BBQ three times; we dined in once and carried out twice. We order the same thing every time, Chicken Shawarma Sandwich for me, Spicy Chili Chicken Sandwich for the hubby, an order of falafel and hummus for the adult female, two kids chicken shawarma meals with rice for the kids and two orders of fries. Every. Single. Time. Annnnddddd.... every single time we have ordered this, they have gotten the order wrong. Every. Single. Time. However, the food is really, really good, so we go back (and it isn't like we live nearby. We are in Algonquin, Pita BBQ is in South Elgin). Second issue: the wait time. For-ev-er. It's an uncomfortable wait time. We place our order and we sit. Well, not "we". If my husband is in the area, he will place and order and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... for our order. Awkwardly long. But, the food is really, really good. So he waits. Last time he was there, he was told he should call it in. However, it's pretty much illegal to call and drive. *insert eyeroll* However, with all that being said... my picky 11 year old asks for Pita BBQ at least five times a week. Was in the area today and thought we'd give this place a try. SO glad we did! VERY friendly owner, explained the different dishes to a noob like me...I ordered the chicken shawarma plate and every single bite was fantastic. My companion ordered the beef kebab plate and I thought the seasonings were amazing on both. The basmati rice, salad, garlic and cucumber sauces were fantastic. The pitas were insanely fresh. Quality of ingredients, friendliness of staff, made-to-order plates and overall experience made Pita BBQ an instant favorite. I can't wait to return and try more selections from their menu! I'm very sad to write this review as I used to like this place but quality has gone way down. I ordered hummus, baba ganoosh, and pita chips. The hummus was clearly spoiled and effervescent, the pita chips smelled and tasted of old grease made me glad I didn't try anything with meat. The owners are nice and I want to see family places make it during these hard times hence two stars; I hope I can have a more positive update soon but I'd be doing a disservice not to point out that hummus which should be a staple of Mediterranean food was old. read more

Very good food and the lunch deal is a steal! A ton of food for cheaper than you could do at Wendy's or McDonalds. I remember going there for a lunch and one of the workers asked if I tried their sauces and I told him that I hadn't. So he threw in 2 of every sauce they offered and told me to let him know which one was my favorite next time I was in. My husband and I have enjoyed Pita BBQ for years. I remember when they had a yummy Sumac salad and purple cabbage slaw on the menu... which I especially appreciated after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes and following a mostly low-carb diet. But then COVID hit. Both items were taken off the menu. I get that. With all of the supply chain issues, labor shortages (Pita BBQ made both in-house) and rising costs of food in general, I fully expected to see cutbacks at all of our favorite go-to restaurants. BUT this time eating here was the last straw for me. Now, I will say that the lady who took my order was super friendly and accommodating, but that in no way can make up for the lack of air conditioning (on a 90 degree day, no less) and overall food quality. I ordered a lunch combination plate that included beef/chicken shawarma, falafel, basmati rice, pita and a tomato, onion & pickle "salad" (if you can even call it that). The cashier accommodated my request to sub rice for hummus. All good. I got my plate of food and the falafel were missing. I went back up to the counter to ask for the missing item and was given two more freshly warmed pitas. I then went back to say that I already had pita and wanted the falafel. The cook nonchalantly laughs and says "he forgot to include them." I could definitely tell that the lady cashier thought I said pita, but when the cook said he forgot the falafel and shrugged it off, I felt like it was a joke to him or that he didn't find it to be a big deal that he shorted me what I paid for. And, when I asked about the AC, I was told that they've spent a LOT of money trying to get it fixed and that the owner (or maybe the owner of the building???) won't spend any more money on it - like they've given up trying to fix an old AC unit. Huh? What restaurant that wants and cares about attracting customers uses this form of logic??? Between this, the gross, greasy quality of my food (this has NEVER been an issue until now) and lack of the obvious air conditioning and on a hot as heck Midwest summer day, I won't be back. It's such a shame too, as this used to be my favorite quick spot for shawarma, falafel and garlic sauce! read more

I have a family of 4 so we ordered the Sultan's feast. It included a very generous serving of 2 shawarmas, 2 kebabs, rice, falafels, hummus, pitas and salad. The shawarmas, kebabs and rice were good. But the pitas were not warm and were a little tough. The hummus was kind of bland and falafels tasted a little dry. The interior is very nice and clean.
