We had not been here in awhile and it's one of my wife's favorite breakfast spots. I was never all that crazy about it because of their breakfast potatoes. If you have read my reviews I judge all breakfast restaurants by their hash browns. I don't know when it happened or what made them change but you now get to choose between the 2 breakfast potatoes or hash browns!!!!!!!! Happy Day, this changes everything for me and warrants a new review. Again it's a really nice place, the seating is really well spaced, I always feel that I have some privacy and personal space. Everyone is always friendly and the service is excellent. This time my wife got the Portabenny which is just what it sounds like 2 portabella mushroom caps as the base of a benedict. It came with some fresh asparagus and my wife really enjoyed it. She also really appreciates the fruit side that you can get, they actually cut fruit themselves and you can choose what you want. I got the southern skillet, poblano peppers, onion, andouille sausage, fried chicken, cheese and turkey sausage gravy. Very good, very large, I only ate half and had breakfast for the next day. I don't get pancakes very often, but I did today and they really have great pancakes. The food is very good, they have a great variety, I really appreciate that they try and bring some uniqueness to their menu, and now that they have hash browns, that may be our new go to spot. read more

Came to SB Cafe in Elgin on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly. I was seated quickly and I ordered a garden skillet with a choice of pancakes. The skillet-less skillet with over medium eggs came out rather fast. I liked the food and everything was enjoyed. Nothing stood out or was over the top. I had plain pancakes so I could evaluate them without being distracted by extra toppings. The pancakes were alright and toppings would probably punch them up. I hate updating a review to make it worse, but my recent visit here wasn't as good as past visits. I ordered the avocado toast, which comes with poached eggs on top and they were cold. Our waitress also acted like she wanted us to leave quickly, bringing the bill before I'd even finished my meal. The place looked clean and the hosts were super friendly, but my food wasn't that enjoyable and I felt stressed thinking the waitress wanted us out, so this wasn't a great visit for me. read more

Menu has a wide range of offerings and the portions for everything are huge! Their beignets were a little tough and doughy so I wouldn't get that next time. Pancakes were very fluffy but also oddly crumbly. I got a pancake sampler that came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of maple bacon, hash browns, and sausage. Had a Sunday breakfast here and it was great- huge Eggs Rancheros with lots of different stuff in it adding to the flavor. They even let me skip the refried beans - yuck- and put sour cream in. The staff was very attentive and friendly. I got seated at a booth and decided to try the special: pot roast and eggs, which came with a side of buttermilk pancakes that I topped with strawberries. To be honest, the food was just okay. The pot roast was a bit dry, even after adding some sauce, which didn't help much. The eggs and potatoes were fine, and the pancakes were good, though I'm not a huge pancake fan. I do love spots like The Original Pancake House, and compared to that, Sweetberry was just average. That said, I'd still recommend Sweetberry Café to Elgin locals--it's a cute date spot with decent food. Bonus points for offering flavored cream! This place is a great choice! We walked in and were greeted very pleasantly -- no wait time at all. We ordered omelets, and the food was hot and delicious. However, we were charged extra for cheese, which is usually included in an omelet. The coffee was very good, and I really liked the idea of having a coffee pot right at the table. We were thanked for dining, which was a nice touch. The restroom was very clean with hot water. Overall, a great experience with friendly service and good food -- just wish the cheese had been included! read more

We tried this place for brunch while in town at the recommendation of family who lives nearby. I was told they recently did a renovation and everything looks fresh and clean. Modern decor and neutral colors but the signage in the front windows is dated and the sign on the front of the building is a bit small and hard to see from the street. Our waitress, Jessica, was outstanding! She was very friendly and attentive to our large group. Despite having other customers she was constantly circling by our table to refill waters and to clear dirty plates. She provided excellent and detailed recommendations of what to try from the menu. The menu has options for everyone from breakfast to lunch and everything in between. Everything comes in large portions! I tried the banana bread French toast and it was great. Three huge slices of banana bread that were served piping hot. The banana bread had great flavor and almost didn't need syrup. I tried some of my sister's Southern skillet and it was also very good. It had lots of fresh ingredients and great flavor but I didn't like the large pieces of poblano pepper in it. Will absolutely be back next time we are in town. read more

I came here on 5/4 to visit one of my girlfriends who lives in South Elgin, and she recommended this place for breakfast. I can see why - there was a short wait for a table on a Sunday morning. Thankfully she lives around the corner and was able to put our name down. The service is friendly, efficiently and accurate. There was a plating issue with my friend's meal, which cause the busser spill one of the sauces onto a customer seated next to us and some of it fell onto my shoe. They were very apologetic and cleaned up right away. They also checked on the both of us. I had the California club with fries. The food was tasty, and the portions are family style where you can share it. One of my favorites is that they make their orange juice freshly in house, and it was one of the highlights of this meal. I'd totally come back when I'm in the area next, and I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for brunch. read more

Went in for brunch today. It's 89 degrees outside and the AC isn't even working inside this restaurant. The waiting staff & their service was great! The food, average. The owner Dan, unkind and unpleasant. I won't be supporting your business because of YOU. Remember, it's how you ask, not what you ask! Dan your approach, tone and delivery asking me to have my service animal under the table was condescending, demeaning and rude. Even the neighboring table checked in to see if I was ok because of how you asked. She was clearly marked as a service animal and stayed under the table without a sound. She was standing because I had just sat back down after letting someone pass and was still settling into the seat. She could have also stood to alert me. Your sarcastic comment of "She's trained to do that, isn't she?" was rude and unnecessary. Next time just ask for paperwork identifying her as a service animal! Or simply don't seat folks where it's a tripping hazard! Also, if something like the AC isn't working on a hot day, you should probably apologize for the inconvenience and ask if there's anything else you can do to help make them comfortable. I've owned a restaurant and have never spoke to a customer the way you spoke to me. read more

Sweet Berry Cafe has absolutely delicious dishes, consistently great breakfast items, and offers a good value for the price you pay. Their portions are enough for me to make two meals out of one order. I recently tried a lobster roll, and it was a tasty lobster mix on a perfectly toasted, butter brushed roll. It goes great with a side salad or French fries. For a side, their potato salad tastes homemade and reminds me of summertime barbecue fare. It is seriously one of the best potato salads I've tasted. The service at Sweet Berry is fast and friendly here, too. I can't wait to come back and try other menu items, of course, with a healthy side of potato salad. Pumpkin pancakes are back! These are the best pumpkin pancakes and no other restaurant comes close to how amazing they are here. The Kona coffee as always very delicious and for food everything is delicious. I actually had the southern skillet and was amazed how delicious it is and I only got it because it came with pancakes and I can upgrade to the pumpkin pancakes for an up charge but I usually get the red chilaquiles and the rice is phenomenal. The staff are super friendly. The service is always great even though they are always busy. We never have any issues with service but the waitresses we got wasn't having a great day or something. I forgot her name, she is an older latin lady she wasn't on top of things and a bit rude but it alright. Everyone else here always takes great care of us. read more

This was my #1 go to breakfast restaurant since they opened. Went yesterday for breakfast and today I got lunch. Today, they just lost my business over $1.25 on a $87.00 bill. Bad enough they charge credit card fees but to charge me $1.25 for a slice of cheese versus the few sprinkles of shredded cheese (did not even cover the tuna) they originally put on the sandwhich is a big rip off. The Tuna Florentine is the menu item but I asked to remove the onion, spinach, and tomato and to let me know the price. Waitress never came back with the price before delivering our meal. I stopped into Sweet Berry Cafe when I was out in the suburbs running some errands and I'm so glad that I did. This place is a hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and treated like valued guests. Our server, Dolly, was wonderful and worked efficiently. The food here was great too and the prices were not bad. I really loved the bacon. It was perfectly cooked and super thick without being chewy. The pancakes and omelette also got high marks from the others in my party. Large and comfortable restaurant with friendly service and reasonable prices. I love this restaurant's attempts to put out unique items and slight twists to elevate familiar favorites. It tastes like everything is made from scratch and that there is care put into designing the different flavor combinations. On my visit, I tried a variety of different items (although the portion sizes were so big I had to take most of it home). 2 Eggs, ham, breakfast potatoes - Simple but done well. The eggs were fluffy, the bone in ham came in a generously sized slice, the breakfast potatoes were tender and not overly seasoned and it was decorated with a nice slice of orange. Pumpkin pancakes - Bursting with pumpkin flavor in the batter with caramelized pumpkin to add even more flavor. The candied pecans added a great crunch and sweetness to the dish which was tied together well by the creme anglaise and honey butter. This is probably the fanciest version of this dish that I've tried, but all the extra little details really helped to improve the enjoyment of this dish. Southwest scrambler - I was quite happy with the amount of effort they put into plating this dish. But also equally happy with the thought put into designing it. The base of this dish is hearty potato pancakes, covered with nice fluffy egg, with maple bacon for a nice mix of sweet and savory crunch. Then you add tomatoes for some juiciness and avocado with some creaminess and a nice creamy hollandaise sauce to tie it all together. The combination of all these items balances surprisingly well together. Beignets - Not sure what exactly to think of this dish. If nothing else it's incredibly flavorful with a ton of powdered sugar, hot fried dough, and mixed with a generous amount of caramel and chocolate sauce. Listed as a starter, but I think it's more than enough to fill your stomach. It's quite different from other versions I've tried locally and worth a try at least once. Overall, I wish I had the ability to eat more in one sitting as I'm definitely intrigued by the menu here. It's a bit of a hike from the Wheeling/Arlington Heights area but it is definitely much easier to get to than the city (which would be considerably more expensive for similar food). I'm not as familiar with other breakfast options in the area, but this restaurant definitely stands out against other places I've been to in the suburbs. read more

I had 2 eggs overeasy and meat - 2 maple links, charged me $12.99, then charged me an extra $1.75 for fruit when I didnt want diced cubed potatoes, yet they offered me this option without mentioning the upcharge. This is the kicker though... my daughter asked for an apple juice, the cost was $4.99. The waitress came around later asked if she wanted a refill, then charged another $4.99! For two cups of apple juice they charged us $10. Wow Nonetheless, I won't be going back and yes its because of their prices. Oh I get prices are inflated all over, but this place charges overkill for everyday breakfast items, you can get same good for reasonable, affordable prices.
