5 stars for Chef Abdul Mediterranean Restaurant - a very nice family owned small business in St. Charles. We tried them for the first time today and it was amazing. The waitress was very friendly, and provided us complimentary pita bread and pita chips and a sample of orange/pomegranate juice. The entrees were excellent, the beef kebab was amazing, very tender and fresh, as was the chicken shawarma. The portions are also massive and can easily be split into 2 meals if you wanted to. As an FYI, the dine in area is not very big so if you come during prime lunch time you may not be able to dine in. Overall if you want Mediterranean, I highly recommend Chef Abdul - a great chef and restaurant! read more

I love Falafel and Chicken Shawarma . My favorite Falafel restaurant is a place in San Jose that has been making the best for years! So instead of taking a plane to California I decided to try Chef Abdul in St Charles. This is a fun photo filled family restaurant that has great service. The Falafel with garlic sauce was phenomenal and the Chicken Shawarma was so flavorful. The shawarma plate is huge and can easily be shared. The Chicken is not juicy but that is how I prefer it. Skip the soup. Didn't finish mine. You may substitute a salad for rice for 2 dollars extra which is fair.Salad was great.The Turkish coffee service is fun and delicious. read more

I came here last week on a Tuesday lunch and got the beef kebab sandwich wrap. Food came out pretty quickly, and I was BLOWN AWAY by the first bite. The beef was so tender and so smoky, I was shocked. This might have been the best mediterranean food I've ever had... Not the biggest fan of the ambiance. It's somewhat small too. After spending time in St Charles and Geneva, we headed to Chef Abdul for lunch because it was the closest halal spot. Chef Abdul is a hidden gem. It's cramped inside, and there's a ton of decorations and photos. There are only a few tables, so I'd recommend going at off-peak times; otherwise get takeout. It's kind of a hole in the wall, so they only have paper menus and plastic cutlery, but that's okay. At least there's table service. We ordered a Chef Abdul combo platter and a kufta sandwich. The combo platter was very good overall and included a beef kefta kabob, chicken kefta kabob, 3 falafel, a potato kubba, and a rice kubba. Both kubba were tasty, but the falafel and chicken kefta were mediocre. The platter included tahini sauce, garlic sauce, and hot sauce, all of which were tasty. The kufta sandwich was not at all what I expected. I figured it would be a wrap or in some sort of roll, but it was in a large boat-shaped bun. The kufta was delicious, and the toppings like onion and sumac went well with it. The bread made it a little hard to eat due to size and density. The sandwich also included fries and soup. We had a choice of lentil or spinach soup; we chose the latter and it was very good. The pita chips that came with the soup were also tasty and fun to eat. The family that runs the restaurant is friendly. My son even got a photo with Chef Abdul himself. Service was excellent, and pricing was fair. Excellent restaurant overall. read more

I am part of a group called the "committee of young and distinguished gentlemen" who every month meet for lunch or dinner at a different restaurant in the area. This month's meeting took place at Chef's Abdul in St.Charles. I have to say I have been living in this area for 27 years and never knew this gem existed. We had our food served family style. We started out with Turkish coffee, Tabbouleh (chopped parsley, tomatoes, onions, quinoa, olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar & pomegranate seeds) & two types of hummus. Followed by two types of Falafel. For our main meal we had chicken & beef with Biryani rice with Quinoa (stuffed with onions & beef) We finished off with Arabic hot tea with cardamom & various types of Baklava. Everything was outstanding, service (family run restaurant, with dad, mom & son doing the cooking & the three daughters serving. When we pulled up in the parking lot the first thing we noticed was there nicely decorated van. When we walked inside the restaurant we were greeted right away by the sweetest lady. She sat us and took our order. I made a quick video of the restaurant so you can see how it looks. There are 9 two seater tables and some are pushed together. So 18 people can dine in at a time. Our waitress dropped off a bottle of water and a basket with pita chips while we we waiting for our food. Tiny strip mall gem with fantastic food and great vibes. There's a huge photo of Chef Abdul right when you walk in, and the walls are covered in photos of him with diners. Came here for takeout for a park picnic with our son. My husband got shawarma and I got a falafel sandwich. We also got hummus + tabbouleh. Everything was seriously SO GOOD- my sandwich was the thing falafel dreams are made of. Also, everyone in the restaurant was super friendly with our little son + understanding of kids. Toddlers can be CHAOS when they are out in a new environments and we had already been dragging our kiddo about all day looking for a new car, so it was a relief for me that the staff was so kind. We had a lot of fun looking through all the pictures on the walls while we waited- so cool! Delicious food from a guy who has clearly had a lot of epic adventures in his life. I married into a Balkan family and they said they haven't had better Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. I grew up in France, where there were a lot of varieties of Middle Eastern food, I was thrilled to find them because I haven't had anything in Chicagoland that was as good as Chef Abdul.
