I LOVE pita pit and rarely get to get it because there's none where I'm from, so I had to grab one before I headed back home.. and unfortunately, that happened to be literally right as she opened the doors at 10 AM. We know the food is great---but when we tried to go today Sunday 3/22, we watched the employee peep around the corner at us and "close" early at 5:15 when they were supposed to be open until 6. The pitas are good but not mixed well. I ended up with a warm, meaty side and a cold, lettuce-y side. The seating downstairs is cramped, but the upstairs seating is roomy and fairly quiet. After 10 more min another emp show up. We asked if they were closed and if they would be fulfilling orders. He mumbled something under his breath. Myself and other customer wait another 5 min then go inside to ask again. Emp stated they would be working on them but gave attitude about how long. Original emp finished the online order she was workin on and packed it up and left. She never spoke to myself or the other customer. Waited until 45 min past when I placed the order. Asked again and said it had been 45 min and none of the food he was preparing was mine. Received a bigger attitude and he said "well now you can wait another 45 minutes". WTF. I ended up leaving. No one is answering the phone so now I have no pita. I managed to connect with one of the owners and received a refund. I normally love going to this place. The pita sandwiches are outstanding, however multiple times I have come here for lunch when the website says they are open, but they are closed. They always seem short staffed and the last couple of times, their soda machine was broken and didn't seem to have any intention of fixing it. Walked in at 10:30 am this morning, with the business opening at 10:00 am. As I entered, I was basically met with three blank stares and then one spoke up to tell me they couldn't help me because "as I could see, they were in the middle of a large catering order." We ordered a Philly cheese steak, a prime rib and a hummus wrap. The Philly cheese steak had melted and uncooked mushrooms/onions in it, making it more of a salad than anything else. I've been looking for a great gyros sandwich in Salem. I've had three before this and the best I've found was from Arby's, which was surprisingly good considering they don't specialize in Greek food. Not totally authentic, but also not bad at all. Pita Pit, though, is my favorite, by far. $8 gets you a very generous serving. Their pita bread is very good and fresh. It has lettuce, tomato, red onion and tzaziki sauce, like most gyros sandwiches, but they also add feta cheese and kalmata olives, which for me was a very nice touch, as I love pretty much any kind of Greek food. read more

Pita Pit rocks. The food is so fresh and so delicious. The options are limitless. The staff are typically super nice and stuff your pita to the hilt. They have a cool reward system. Spend a certain amount and earn a free pita when the time comes. I love the gyro pita. I always get extra meat and just go berserk on the thing! The meat isn't 100% like you are getting it at a Mediterranean/Greek spot, but for being the next go to, it's the next best thing. Roll in and try it sometime. You'll love that you did. I love this place! I was super excited to find one after moving to OR from SC, because they started disappearing from my hometown! This was a huge college hangout/quick meal place for me, and .. not gonna lie, I found it absolutely hilarious that it's on the corner of State and High St. because it was definitely a stoner's paradise. I've honestly never gotten anything other than their gyro pita because it's just the best. Essentially, you choose your meat meal, then if you want a white or wheat pita, and then your veggies/sauces/cheeses (and there are a lot of options). My gyro combo tends to be tzazika, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, feta and BAM, delicioso. They also have a rewards card which is pretty sweet :) read more

ZERO stars! Stay away at all costs! I completely agree with the other negative reviews but would also like to add this: the service sucks with a capital S! I have not seen attitudes like I saw here anywhere else, and I travel quite a lot in the US and overseas. This chic at the register might as well work at the state prison with all her charms. While the food may at times be passable (and only then if you tell them how to make it every step of the way and make sure they cook the meat - seriously!) however even in Salem you can find much better food at decent prices. If you don't mind undercooked and possibly cross-contaminated food, screw-you customer service, and waiting way too long to get your sandwich, you may not mind eating here. I don't know what it is about Pita Pit but each of my three visits there has resulted in what my friend calls "bubbly guts." Lest you wonder if I ordered the same thing every time, I did not. Three separate occasions (with considerable time in between them) - one result: gastrointestinal distress. Perhaps that is TMI for some people but at least you've been warned. The idea of the place seems good -- Subway meets Americanized Middle Eastern options. Pitas? Hummus? Tazatziki? Falafel? Bring it on! With generous portions to boot! However, the reality is the service is mediocre (a bunch of teenagers with plenty else they'd rather be doing) and the taste is just OK... it's the aftermath that is the real deal-killer. If you don't mind that - or you're looking for bulimia alternatives to preserve your tooth enamel - then, by all means, surrender your body to the Pit. Tried the Pita Pit yesterday with my Partner. We were shopping downtown and got hungry as we were leaving the downtown area so we popped in. I was a little surprised at the decor. As Chuck B. pointed out, it was very garish and a little on the juvenile side. There were two staff behind the counter, both young women who appeared to have much better things to do than work at the Pita Pit. I perused their menu and noticed on the door there was an advertisement for their Gyro, Dagwood and Souvlaki Pita's. I opted for the Souvlaki, and topped it with a Berry smoothie. I sat down at a table that was too small for adults, and waited. My partner remained at the 'fixin' counter. The next thing I know, I am being asked what I want in my pita. "Whatever is supposed to be in a Souvlaki" was my response. I got an eye roll from the gal behind the counter as she said; "It has whatever you want in it." This struck me as odd, because certain named sandwiches have certain ingredients in them...this is why I ordered the Souvlaki in the first place, I didn't want to decide what to put in my meal. After making a few selections of vegies and cheeses, I watched incredulously as the gal flung the ingredients into the pita. The result was that I received a pita that was layered and worked my way through those layers. I think that the Pita Pit is probably more busy on the weekdays as it sits directly across the street from Marion County Courthouse, so perhaps the Saturday staff are not so bright. It will be a while before I go back, because frankly, I wasn't that impressed. read more

It is good food. However the woman who says that she is the manager is a disappointment. She is slow and not willing to help her employees when they are busy. She does not convey that she genuinely appreciates her customers. I have introduced tens of my co-workers to this specific location. My job site ordered lunch for over 100 employees, that was based on my supervisor's suggestion. He had never heard of the place until I bought him a pita. That order would have not been placed unless it was for a patron passing along the word. (in this case, me) Lindsay had mentioned that on her request that I was no longer welcome there. I asked to speak to the owner and she said that he doesn't like to be bothered. I would like to think that an owner would like to receive input from their patrons. I hadn't passed along the word to my supervisor, really, well, because once I drive down the street, Lindsay isn't worth another thought. However, when I do pass it downtown, I do feel what she is doing is wrong. Pita Pit is awesome. The management can be replaced. read more

After reading the reviews for Pita Pit I was a little surprised at all the negative reviews. I have never had a bad experience here. I really like all the different choices of pitas you can get. My favorite is the turkey, bacon, avocado. I always get mine as a salad because of gluten issues. You get a very large portion of food for what you pay. Every time I have been there the veggies have been really fresh and tasty. I would recommend that you get your food to go. They don't have very much seating and if it is busy it gets really loud inside. Some of the employees are really friendly, but others need to work on that. If you are offended or judgmental about people with tattoos and piercings then you probably shouldn't frequent this restaurant. I don't think I have seen an employee there that isn't pierced and tattooed. read more

I absolutely love eating here. When Pita Pit opened in Salem I was so excited! This place has great Pitas with fresh Veggies. The staff is a bit "edgy" I suppose for some, but just like the cartoon veggies on the walls that some feel are "dated" it's all part of the atmosphere of the pit! This isn't subway, this isn't McDonald's, and it certainly isn't a high end place - it's the pita pit. It's delicious food, fast service, and I am in love. I've always had great service, too!
