After all the kick-butt reviews of this place, I just had to give them a try. It's in a strip mall off of Olive. The place is very small on the inside. The bulk of their space is behind closed doors. Which made me realize, they must make most of their items on site. I assume it was the owner who greeted us. He was a small, older, foreign man. His english wasn't all that great but he could get along just fine. He was very welcoming, and proud of his dishes. After I asked him about the size of the gyros, he assured me that one was more than enough to fill me up. He then called to the only other table in the place and asked them aloud how their food was. They were enjoying gyros too... and commented that they drove from Brentwood to eat here. I tried the Chicken Tandoori and a Gyro. The meat in both were very good. Seasoned well... and not dry. They gyro meat seemed fresh. Not the kind spinning on a stick all day. It was juicy, and had some substance to it. Both sandwiches were stuffed inside a pita pocket. Somebody must have taken some time not to break the pita open, the whole in the pocket was small but the sandwich was bursting with ingredients. The pita itself wasn't that great. Something that I could get in a store. Not doughy, or fresh enough for me. The sauces available for your sandwiches are in a stand up cooler. You have to know to grab them from there. Both the tzaziki and hot sauce were good and fresh. Packed with flavor. The place is nice, the food is good, not great. The service is welcoming, and the prices are ok. I'm going to be as clear as I can when I say this because I don't want anyone to ever be confused about this place. Hand's down the best Greek food you will have in St. Louis. Most likely in the entire state. Absolutely the best Gyro you will ever put to your lips. I'm not kidding its like a religious experience each time I'm there. When I lived in Illinois I would drive here once a month just to get my fix. It is one of my favorite places I have ever eaten and I mean favorite places nationwide, not just in St. Louis. I get so excited when I even think about this place I'm like a kid going to toys r us with his parents and they have a platinum credit card and nothing to spend it on but you. Seriously I'm getting so excited thinking about this place right now I want to punch my monitor in the hopes that somehow my punch will travel through the internet and hit you in the face while your reading this so you know how damned good the food is. On a more serious note; the service is amazing. Possibly the friendliest staff you will ever meet. The owner is the one behind the counter most of the time and he's just a big teddy bear. He always has a genuine smile on his face and is more than happy to help you. I'm pretty sure me and him are BFF's given how much time I've spent there. Unlike most tiny eateries like this, they don't try to shove stuff down your throat to make a sale. And that's saying something considering the world we live in these days. He's not trying to compete with the franchise places and is perfectly happy running a tiny little eatery that probably makes more money than places ten times the size. It's as authentic as it gets and you will NEVER forget the great experience of eating one of these gyros. I'm dead serious, unless you hop a plane to Greece, this is the best it's going to get. Frankly I'm not sure what some of the other Yelpers are talking about when they have given this place anything less than a 5 star review. I mean that with the utmost respect though, they might have had a less than orgasmic experience but given how amazing this place is I hope they give it a second chance. It's worth it. I know that I'm Yelp™ obsessed when I'm willing to drive 40 minutes from downtown in what doppler readers everywhere would label "inclement weather" to eat at a place that I read about on the site--I hope that I'm not the only moron that does this, if so, it looks like I just outed myself. Pita+ is pretty cool. The owner was a very rushed, possibly perceived as rude, whaddayawant kind of man, but I didn't mind because it matched the vibe of the place--very Spartan (take that clever word play!). If Orpheus opened a gyro joint in the Eastern block, I'm fairly certain it would look/feel like this. Overall, the food was good--the hummus was really good, the falafel was the best I've ever tasted, and the gyro was solid. The only "problem" I had was the questionable pricing. $7.95 for a gyro the diameter of a softball and a pickle? Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the amount of prep time it takes to make these morsels, but I'd be surprised if its more than a large bowl of pho from Banh Mi So or Kim Son. My boyfriend and I went to Pita + and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was great, but the service was just ok. I asked for a glass of water and was not given one so I went up and bought a soda. I realize they don't make money off of a glass of water, but I refuse to buy bottles of water at a restaurant. It's just not going to happen...it's water for the love of god. I was going to buy a tea or a coffee after my meal, but since I was forced to buy a beverage to wash down my delicious meal I decided against spending more money. I ordered the falafel plate. The falafel was the best I've had in a long time. It was perfectly cooked and perfectly moist. Alongside came hummus and a tomato/cucumber salad with a few olives. I really, really liked the hummus. The salad was a nice fresh addition to the meal and made me feel better about myself for indulging so much with the plate. My boyfriend ordered the gyro sandwich, yum! I kind of wished I had ordered it as well. The meat was moist and not too greasy. The pita was filled perfectly and it was really easy to eat the sandwich which was devoured rather quickly. I did manage to get two bites with the returned favor of a couple bites from my plate. I like deals that are even! We also ordered a Turkish coffee that was pretty tasty. The man who served us seemed surprised that we didn't need sugar with the coffee and offered many sugar options...it was nice but a little overkill since we initially said we didn't want sugar. I appreciate the effort though, but I'm still pissed about the water. I was so happy to have all the tzatziki sauce I could squeeze onto my plate! Nice touch. I really wanted to be able to score this higher. I love that it's a tiny little dive. Nothing fancy, just what appears to be a family owned business where people are chattering in the back in a language I didn't understand. I love that in the heart of suburban chain restaurant-land, this quick lunch spot in a strip mall serves authentic Greek and Middle Eastern food. I was ready to overlook that the food is served on styrofoam disposable plates (think cheap paper plates). I was ready to overlook that the napkins are the kind that come out of a dispenser so thin that I had to use 4 or 5 because when I wiped my fingers they crumbled up like a used kleenex. I was even ready to overlook that when I asked for a cup of water (vs paying for a bottled water), I had 2 ask 2 times and it took someone going to the back, getting me a coffee sized styrofoam cup with 2 ice cubes and finally bringing it to me about 5 minutes after I had my food. I was prepared to overlook all of that. But the food just wasn't anything special. I ordered a gyro on the white bread pita. The meat was a little dry and since you add your own tzatziki sauce, it was hard to get it beyond the top and the bottom part of my sandwich was dry. When I added more halfway down, the pita fell part and I was left with a wet mess without a fork in sight. While I did finish my food and it was fine, I wouldn't order it again. And looking at the menu, I would probably try someplace else other than going back again and giving it another shot. read more

There's a little guy out front and a woman in back cooking. I told him I was there because of the reviews on Yelp. He gave me a funny look and pointed at my newspaper. I said no, it's a website. He again looked kind of confused, then said "oh, internet?" and moved his hands in the shape of a circle (the globe, maybe, for worldwide web??). "Yes, Internet" says I...without a hand gesture. I didn't ask if they had wifi, but I think I know what expression he would have had. Super nice guy - I shouldn't make fun. So I had a falafel. I'm pretty sure I had it once before years ago at Al-Tarnoush (not sure it's spelled right - the place off Delmar). I guess that time I was not impressed, since I never considered getting it again until I read these reviews. This time, though, it was fantastic. The owner who works the counter is ridiculously delightful! Though at first seemingly rough around the edges, he is just not a man of many words. But he is a man of some great falafel! The menu is small but well rounded, including gyros, falafel, burekas and more. Their middle eastern salad was excellent - as well as their hummus and tzatziki sauce. The restaurant is very small, only a few tables, so take-out might be easier if there are already groups eating. There is a small fridge where you can choose from fresh hummus and other dips to purchase and take home - and they sell their fresh pitas by the bag! I went back to find the place STILL empty, but open. The man wasn't standing behind the counter, the chill-case was empty, and I think he wanted to go home. No smile, no greeting. Ordered a gyro on wheat pita with feta and the Mid-East Salad -- diced tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, and parsley in olive oil and lemon dressing, served with Kalamata olives (really, there was just one -- with a pit). The man took my order. As he was walking to the back, I said, "That's to-go." He said, "I know." Hmmm, a little charm school wouldn't hurt, especially since this meal cost more than $11. The salad was delicious, but quite skimpy for $3.55 and one measly Kalamata olive -- with a pit. The tzatziki and feta were in separate containers. So I built the sandwich, picked it up to take a bite, and everything split through the bottom of the pocket seam. So glad I was home. So I knife-and-forked it. Good taste, plenty of meat, onion, tomato, lettuce and cucumber. The tzatziki and feta were required touches, IMO. And it really was a good thing they were packed separately, 'cause their moisture would have sogged everything up. While the salad lasted less than 5 minutes, the gyro lasted two meals, but I ditched the wheat pita on the repeat. read more

The gyro salad was perfect for me, some people would probably want more meat but i dont like a ton of meat in general so for me it was great. As a foodie, West County often feels like a culinary desert. Riddled with strip malls filled with chain restaurants, it looks like every other suburban cesspool in America. But once in awhile you find an oasis in the form of the mom & pop spot. Pita Plus is a tiny hole in the wall of a place. The staff is curt but efficient. The seating is cozy to put it lightly. But the falafel is no joke. It just might be the best falafel in the whole St. Louis area. I also like that they have an accessible fridge stocked with tzatziki, tahini and red chili sauce bottles that you can help yourself to when dining in. They focus on a dozen or so menu items that they do well. I would definitely recommend this place for that Middle Eastern cuisine fix. read more

I am a huge fan of falafel and cultural food, so I had to try this small place because a friend recommended it to me. It's really hard to find good traditional cultural food in the suburbs. I usually have to drive more than 20 minutes away to get some. I had the falafel sandwich ($6.25) for a small dinner. The falafel came in a pita bread pocket stuffed with chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. The vegetables inside seemed fresh, and the falafel was crispy and delicious. There was a good mix of herbs and chickpeas. Every sandwich on the menu comes with these pita chips which I wasn't too thrilled about, but the sandwich was good. My sister ordered the Falafel Platter ($7.25) the other day, and I would definitely recommend getting the Falafel Platter instead of the Falafel sandwich. The Falafel platter comes with five falafel balls, fresh middle eastern salad (finely-diced tomatoes, cucumber, onions and parsley with Greek olives and dressing), delicious humus, and pita bread. I would never have gone to Pita+ if a friend hadn't recommended/taken me there. It is nondescript and hides in the corner of a strip mall. Also it's name is Pita+!! Come on. How bout some creativity. That said, I give it 5 stars 1. The owners are from the mideast. No whitebread cooks here. 2. They make their own pitas, which are soft and fresh. You can buy a package separately to take home. 3. It's a hole-in-the-wall so there isn't a lot of seating but find a seat and you can get the condiment bottles of yogurt dill sauce and chili sauce out of the refridgerator. Great stuff. 4. I love their gyros. They taste great and are actually pretty healthy. 5. I have not had their falafel but I hear its really good. Only downside to Pita+ is your clothes will smell when you leave. read more

Pita + gives you the feeling that you've stumbled upon a quaint pita shop in some distant country. The owner (at least I think he's the owner) is a nice old man, who makes you feel so very welcome. I ordered the grilled chicken pita, and I must say, it tasted so fresh. From the chicken to the tomatoes, lettuce, onions and the pickle, everything tasted like it had just been picked or prepared. The pita sandwich was pretty tasty despite not having any type of sauce in it. I also tried a bit of their falafel and also a bit of their hummus. I'm not always a giant fan of hummus or falafel (because it's not meat, haha), but it was pretty good! I'd recommend this place for anyone who wants to try some fresh pita entrees. Great family-run place! At first it seemed a little odd that a Greek restaurant would be run by a Russian couple but after the first bite that concern melted away. We had a variety of dishes at the table but my choice was a gyros. The meat had a great flavor and was slightly crisped from rotating on the spit. The pita bread was fresh (they make them in house) and the tzatziki sauce (also made in house) was served in a squeeze bottle such that I was able to portion it out for each and every bite. What stole the show was all of the above plus the addition of lettuce and tomatoes. Generally speaking, I like my gyros pretty simple - meat, sauce, onion and pita are enough. I gave in the owner's insistence that I try it the way he makes it (with lettuce and tomatoes added) and it really worked. My wife have the falafel and I will likely order that next time around. One kid had a salad that she demolished while the other one opted for a rice and gyro meat dish that she loved. Everyone was happy. The food was great. The homemade touches were much appreciated. The couple that runs the place was very nice and interested in making sure that we had a great dinner. What more can you ask for??? read more

So the other day I had a hankering for Falafel. I can't explain it but I was craving the crunchy on the outside soft on the inside goodness of falafel. You gotta love the magical combination of ground chickpeas and fava beans made into a ball and deep fried. OH, I am getting another hankering just thinking about it. Anyway, my friend suggested Pita + I quickly remembered all the good reviews I have seen on Yelp. I remembered people saying that it was small and crowded. And yes, it is small but it is well lite and clean. I was pleasantly surprised. My friend and I both ordered the Falafel platter which comes with 5 fantastic falafel balls, a tasty pita, chopped onions and tomatoes, a few olives, and some really great hummus. Oh, and a limp little piece of lettuce. I would have liked more lettuce and a few more olives (I'm and addict really, I just can't kick the habit.) On the side they offered hot sauce, a cream based tahini sauce and a yogurt sauce. My friend thought they were all tasty. Bottom line, run as fast as you can and purchase 2 orders of the falafel platter. One for now, one for later; that's what I plan on doing next time!! Husband insisted on taking the family here for dinner the other night, even after we discovered that we would arrive 20 minutes before they closed. The Teen's and I were groaning because we expected to encounter service that had had a long day and just wanted to go home. This was not the case. When we arrived, the owner and a friend were seated at one of the tables - when we got there, we were greeted warmly. I noticed the men were speaking Russian, which confused me at a meditteranean place so I asked them about it. The owner is Russian and speaks very little English; his friend is also Russian but worked for A-B as an accountant and speaks fluent English. This may explain some of the comments about the owner in the other reviews... We chatted with his friend while they prepared our food - I recently returned from Ukraine and he was interested in my experiences there. It was a good way to try out my limited Russian as well - I think they got a kick out of it. He gave us a potato burreka to try and it was delicious - even the Teens liked it. I had been craving a falafel for about three weeks now, so I went for a sandwich. It was a generous serving of savoury falafel stuffed into a fluffy warm pita and dressed. The big excitement was when he handed us a bottle of tzatziki to use. We all love the stuff, so he may have regretted that decision but it was great for us to have unlimited tzatziki - so many places charge you for extra. Teens had a greek salad and a gyro plate and both loved their food - husband had a gyro sandwich and enjoyed it as well. All of our food was delicious and on our way out the owner presented us with a bag of pitas to take home! This place is a little tough to find if you don't have your eyes peeled. I actually passed it up and had to turn around, so beware. Anyway, I like Pita +. As others have stated, there is a definite language barrier with the man who works behind the counter. He is REALLY tough to understand, but he seems to process orders just fine, so don't be worried. I ordered a gyro on whole wheat pita. It was pretty good, especially since they give you your own squirt bottle of tzatziki sauce so you can add it on as liberally as you want. Definitely a plus in my book. My only complaint is that the meat was a little on the dry side. I can't really say I was BLOWN AWAY by what I ate, but I see the potential to really find something I love here. I can tell they put a lot of love in their food. Delish! Had an awesome lunch at Pita Plus today. Reasons why this was: - Super quick! Our food was out before I could even sit down (and this place is tiny, so it's not like I had to walk far). - Good amount of food for the money - Very tasty! The pitas are so soft and you get a choice of wheat or white, which I appreciated. The amazingly flavorful and garlicky tzatziki sauce is in bottles on every table, so you never want for it. The gyro meat was well seasoned and had great texture and tenderness. I'm holding back on that last star because, according to Yelp, 5 stars is "as good as it gets." While Pita Plus was very good, I didn't feel that it was as good as The Gyro Company on Gravois. Thus, 4 stars. But 4 very solid stars! Service: You order from the man and you wait. I found it was a bit difficult to communicate with the guy- don't know if it was a language barrier/he didn't hear me or he was in a bad mood? Decor: Small, few tables, casual. It's not super decorative, just basic and functional. Food: I've had my fair share of falafel, gyros, etc. and I think Pita + gives some pretty small portions. It's in a pita pocket rather than a flat peice of bread and it isn't filled. That being said, I thought it was a little dry. But, I do enjoy that you get that tube of tzatziki sauce and you can put on as much as you want (mmmm!!) I love this place! Great gyros and humus. The owner is a little short but I find his straight forwardness adds to the charm. It's small inside so I usually get mine to go but occasionally my husband eat in and the guy always talks to us. The baclava is so good but I hate spending $3 for a small piece but I still do it since I love it. This is the kind of small family owned place I love to go to but I'm always afraid that the next time I go they will be closed. The sandwich platters and a la carte items here are both solid. The service is consistently fast, and the items are well priced and reasonably portioned. My favorites are the falafel and the oven-warm pita (plain and whole wheat). The mid-east salad (diced tomatoes, cumber, and onion) is an excellent accompaniment to any of the offerings. They also have filled phyllo dough pockets to accompany the platters. I enjoyed the cheese-filled pocket on a recent visit and liken it to a kicked-up, non-sad Danish. I got the food to go and came home and boy did my family enjoy it. It was 100% worth it! The food was made fresh, not too oily, and tasted great. Oh, Pita +, how I love you! I live right around the corner and would eat here multiple times a week, if I wasn't watching my diet. Tiny store front and workers with a bit of a language barrier are part of the charm. The FOOD is what you come here for! The gyros are delish. It may be the best pita I have ever eaten. Bonus - they sell little bags of pitas to take home and they last for quite a while in the refrigerator. What's the hype about this place? 5 stars means perfect or near perfect in my mind. Granted, the flavor is robust but its not mind blowing when it comes down to the pita. I live near here. If it was great, I'd be coming every day, literally. Pita + is over priced for their product which has a good taste, but not great taste. It has an ok price, not good or great price. The Baklava is very dry, not incredibly sweet tasting. The pitas are a bit dry and hard too. The pita size is fair, but not overly large. The price I can pay for two pitas and baklava can get me a good sit down dinner for two elsewhere. The last time I walked into this tiny little joint was ten years ago, just before moving out of state. By great fortune, my office was moved nearby and this was my lunch nostalgia. This wee place is nothing spectacular to look at, however, the food is delicious. Despite claims of rudeness, which I never experienced a decade ago, I was greeted kindly by an older woman who smiled as she asked me what I would like. She jumped right on my gyro in a fraction of a second after asking for one. The familiar older man walked out and asked if I wanted a Barreka (spelling?). "Umm," I deliberated, "No, I'm okay. Wait. Yes, let me get a spinach. Wait, let me get four (my coworkers are skeptical of my taste in food)." In just a few minutes, I was out and driving back to work. Getting back to my desk, I sliced the extras in half and let my doubting coworkers enjoy. They loved the flavor and raved about them for two days and made me suspect that they are skeptical because they reap the benefits of generosity. As for the gyro, the meat was well cooked and flavored, but there was a slight mismatch between the pita and the filling. I would have preferred to see less pita bread or more of what goes inside, but that was a small complaint. The tzaziki sauce is great, if a little thick. Had the pita been sliced in half and filled with the same quantity, it would have been amazing. All in all, this tiny little hole in the wall is as good as I remember and I have four other people who would agree with one bite of a spinach Barreka. So I was in the area, and Yelp told me that Pita Plus was in the area. After a quick check, I saw many great reviews. Needless to say, I decided to try it out! I'm NOT a fan of falafel. Every other place I've had falafel featured soft, lukewarm, soggy stuff. So I planned on ordering a gyro (my favorite!). However, after reading all of the rave reviews, I thought I'd give falafel one more try. BOY, am I glad I did! The falafel was absolutely delicious. I mean, eyes-rolling-in-the-back-of-the-head delicious. Everything was perfect. The seasoning was great (and there was a little kick to the falafel which I loved!), the veggies were fresh, and the pita bread was the BEST I've ever had.
