I've been for lunch twice in the past 2 weeks and have had great food both times! Love the falafel - super crunchy and flavorful - and the burekas. People I've been with have really enjoyed their gyro and chicken as well, but I don't eat meat so I can't speak to it personally. Staff are very friendly and offer their recommendations off the menu. I got baklava- very good and fresh, sweet and sticky to a perfection, napoleon- light and creamy, my kids thought it was the best, honey cake- my personal favorite! This place was a delightful find! I didn't love getting my food on styrofoam plates, and the ambiance was what you'd expect in an outdated strip mall, the food nore than made up for it! The tuna salad pita sandwich, the falafel platter, and the beef pita sandwich were all great, according to our party members. My falafal was perfectly seasoned and fried, and they were not even a bit too oily. We also got a large, tasty piece of baklava for $5, which we cut and split among the three of us. Even though we walked in less than 15 minutes before closing, he still gave us the option to dine in or take it to go. He recommended the falafel platter and said it was a popular favorite. So we decided to give it a try. The falafel here is one of the best i have had in St. Louis. It is made fresh packed with a lot of flavor, crunchiness and tastes delicious. Finally tried this place for the first time. Got the falafel platter. It came with 5 pieces of falafel, tomato salad, pita, hummus, tahini sauce and a pickle. All I can say is WOW! This small, casual spot offers fast Mediterranean food cooked to order. I had the falafel platter which came with five small falafels, no more than two tablespoons of hummus spread out to look like more than it was, a pickle spear, a very small side of vegetable salad, and one wheat pita bread- for $10. The falafel was slightly spicy, the hummus was good, and the spinach and chicken burrekas were delicious! Unfortunately, the amount of food for the price is disappointing. The total bill (with some chips added) came to just under $20 and I left wishing I had more hummus and side salad. Essentially the platter was appetizer portions, if that. Also, when I go for Mediterranean food I look for a plate with hummus, tabbouleh, and baba ghanoush- a bit of everything but Pita Plus does not offer any such platter and all has to be ordered separately. Current prices will keep me at bay, as will their environmentally-unfriendly use of styrofoam plates and cups and plastic eating utensils. Here we go again with STL having gem restaurants in random strip malls. My dad took me here for a falafel. It was insane. The pita was so fresh. The falafels were hot off the grill. It had all the fixings like lettuce and tomato. On the table were a couple of different homemade sauces you could use to add to the pita. I ordered hummus to go and it was soooo creamy! This place gets 5 stars because it consistenly delivers one of the most delicious and satisfying food experiences I've ever had. I only ever get one thing here. Everything else is probably great, but once you find perfection, there's no reason to stray. Step 1: Order the gyro sandwich. It's just a pita pocket (white or wheat) stuffed with quality gyro meat, fresh cucumber, red onion, and a tomato slice. Cost is around $6.50. Wait time is about 3 minutes. Step 2: From the small freezer, get a container of the tzatziki (white) sauce and the hot (red) sauce. These are both made fresh by the restaurant. YOU MUST GET BOTH OF THESE SAUCES FOR THE PROPER EXPERIENCE. DO NOT DISOBEY ME. I AM F*CKING SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. Step 3: Apply the tzatziki and the hot sauce to the top of your sandwich. The hot sauce is quite spicy so go easy on it at first. Use a pita chip (comes with the sandwich) to blend the sauces together and spread them on the meat. Step 4: Take your first bite. Close your eyes and listen to the angels sing as you chew. Don't forget to breathe. Step 5: Try to compose yourself and enjoy the rest of your gyro sandwich, re-applying both sauces as necessary. Appreciate the wonderful compact shape of the sandwich which makes it easy to eat without getting your hands dirty or having stuff fall out. If there is one thing I keep on trying and constantly dislike or rather find bland in most places is falafel. I think there is a very thin line between cooking a falafel totally tasteless and flavorful and these guys have got it right. I have moved out of St.Louis a few years ago and I remember Pita Plus very often even now, especially their flavorful falafel and red and white sauces. That red sauce literally makes me drool. One chicken and regular gyro with a side of falafel, please! The falafel was different than most we have tried around the city. Crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Best of all, it was extremely flavorful. Falafel is becoming the a fried food I eat, and I dont even like fried foods! The gyros, however, were okay. Price and size were great for a quick meal but the actual flavors in the gyro meats were not the best.Topping with the tazhiki, tahini, or chili sauce really enhanced the taste! Feel totally ripped off. Ordered what. I thought would be a Greek salad with Tandoori chicken. $14 later I received a salad that had little more lettuce than a hamburger garnish, with a few tomatoes and cucumbers. When I'm craving some traditional cultural food, I do need to drive away from the Burbs of West County. So all the more, I was thrilled find this little authentic joint in Creve Coeur. I swung by Pita+ for lunch and I shared their Falafel platter and Gyro platter with another friend. The Gyro platter was good, but not spectacular. I do like my gyro meat a bit more spiced up and greasy, but it was still good. Now the Falafel platter is worth raving about. Here's a quick 101 on a good falafel sandwich: A good falafel should have crispy shells and tender interiors, not too dry, with a good internal balance of chickpea, parsley. The pita should be chewy and fresh-tasting. And the sauce and toppings should add to the total package. Pita+'s falafel sandwich met all these criteria and went above and beyond! The portion was generous (5 falafels) and the price was right ($7.25) The platter provided fresh & delicious tomato/cucumber salad and adding a side of hummus was an excellent touch! I got to eat a late lunch at Pita Plus today. I have been eating here for at least 23 years that I can remember. It's the best falafel and bourekas in St. Louis. It's always fresh and delicious. The cheese boureka is my favorite. The dough is flaky and the cheese is buttery and creamy. I don't get there very often because of the location but if you enjoy falafel and fresh pita go there now. I was really excited to go here after reading such rave reviews about Pita Plus, but once I got there the hype was quickly over. Let me give you some background info: Pita Plus closes at 6pm. I arrived at 5:40. The owner's wife i assume stared at me and took everyone else's order as i stood right in front of her at the counter and then she went to the back to prepare their food. Now one customer is like I need another sandwich or something and he's like no its too late we're about to close. So i'm standing here thinking what the beep beep....He looks at me and goes, "have ordered already?" I go no!! She never took my order. So then he tells the other guy well since i have to make her gyro I can go ahead and make yours too. I walked out heavily pissed because i've never just been ignored before. There food is good, but not that good that they need to be ignoring customers, because we are in a recession. My pita was tasty, but I don't know if I can go back. I would recommend it if you like great pitas and love being ignored. The pita bread is top knotch but I haven't been to any other places down here so I don't have anything to compare it to. After all the kick-butt reviews of this place, I just had to give them a try. It's in a strip mall off of Olive. The place is very small on the inside. The bulk of their space is behind closed doors. Which made me realize, they must make most of their items on site. I assume it was the owner who greeted us. He was a small, older, foreign man. His english wasn't all that great but he could get along just fine. He was very welcoming, and proud of his dishes. After I asked him about the size of the gyros, he assured me that one was more than enough to fill me up. He then called to the only other table in the place and asked them aloud how their food was. They were enjoying gyros too... and commented that they drove from Brentwood to eat here. I tried the Chicken Tandoori and a Gyro. The meat in both were very good. Seasoned well... and not dry. They gyro meat seemed fresh. Not the kind spinning on a stick all day. It was juicy, and had some substance to it. Both sandwiches were stuffed inside a pita pocket. Somebody must have taken some time not to break the pita open, the whole in the pocket was small but the sandwich was bursting with ingredients. The pita itself wasn't that great. Something that I could get in a store. Not doughy, or fresh enough for me. The sauces available for your sandwiches are in a stand up cooler. You have to know to grab them from there. Both the tzaziki and hot sauce were good and fresh. Packed with flavor. The place is nice, the food is good, not great. The service is welcoming, and the prices are ok.
