Sampler platter ($15)- 4 falafel, hummus, babaganoush, slice eggplant, stuffed grape leaf, Tabuli, fuul. Takeout.
    Jessica S.

Surprised at all the 5 star reviews. Falafels were pretty good, but they weren't hot (could be time cooking my chicken schwarma). Chicken was seasoned well and moist; they didn't have meat the first time I went - I read in another review that he only gets it if it's quality - probably kosher/halal standards. Everything else - meh. Owner was nice. 1) Sampler platter ($15), which includes 4 falafel, hummus, babganoush, a slice of eggplant, stuffed grape leaf, tabuli and fuul (pita and salad on side). I got it to go and everything kind of mushed together. Again, falafel good taste but not hot. Hummus and baba very plain. Slice of eggplant cold and not for me. Stuffed grape leaf not for me. The rest not for me. 2) Chicken schwarma platter ($15), which includes hummus (pita and salad on side). I wanted a sandwich but I think he was confused when I was asking if I should still get sampler platter. 3) Hibiscus Tea ($3.50, no sugar, no caffeine) - on menu says recommended by "Dr. Oz"... I do like the option of having no sugar/no caffeine drinks, but I think you may have to add something to this one, even though I drank it plain. It's in the refrigerator so it doesn't have ice cubes if you're looking for a nice refreshing drink. There's also pink lemonade along with bottled waters and sodas. 4) Baklava ($4) - average. They also have Kataifa and Halva (which I didn't see out, but didn't ask for). Total: $40; feel like I could've gotten a better meal for the money. *The "salads" included are ones you make from the "salad bar" - which consists of lots of fermented veggies such as sauerkraut, pickled carrots/cauliflower/peppers, red chili, olives, pickled cucumber *Pitas to go are not warmed up, so maybe ask them to if you want it warm when ordering take out. I had gone here because I had a craving for hummus/baba and was too lazy to make my own, plus I thought it'd be cool to bring to a BBQ, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I may be spoiled having lived in LA (which has good Mediterranean) and Austin, which has the best babaganoush I've ever tasted. I feel sad for the scene here if ppl really call this the best in the city; another place called Judah Mediterranean Grill nearby looks good and ppl say they have amazing hummus so that will be on my next to try list.

First time ordering, the shawarma platter barely had any chicken in it and cost me nearly $20, fries were burnt. The falafel seems to be there specialty and was the only this actually fully loaded. And I got an attitude over the phone for ordering thru grub hub. I thought during quarantine people would be happy to get business. Guess I was wrong.

This place was amazing. My wife and I stopped in on our lunch break, and I must say we was not disappointed. The food was amazing and gentleman cooking the food was amazing, we felt like family in the short period of time we was there. My wife doesn't usually eat falafel, but that has since changed. Everything that touched our lips was great. Definitely recommend and we will definitely make this our weekly lunch stop going forward.

Like John R., I also thought this place might be a little sketchy, but found out I was wrong wrong wrong. First I used to the number on this yelp page to call and no one answered (sketchy, the answering machine sounded like I had dialed someone's cellphone and I thought I had for a moment, but rest assured it is the correct number), so I decided to just walk in and try it. I got the falafel sandwich for $6.25, and a side order of fries ($2). The fries were definitely homemade and hand cut, but very potatoey and dense. I'm a fan, but could see how others might not be. Everything was made to order and took less than 10 mins total to make. Once the falafel were done frying, he slathered a pita pocket with hummus and handed it to me to fill up with veggies at the "salad bar" (see picture). There were a lot of choices to top it with. many pickled varieties, cabbage, a tomato and onion chop, green olives, roasted red peppers, etc. it was hard to choose what to stuff my already stuffed pita with! There are also convenient little plastic containers to put the toppings in to go. The bread of the pita was good, and the falafel was yummy. Adel is very friendly and has a lot of offer at his little dive here in Elkins Park. I'm curious about his virgin hibiscus sangria, and will give that a try next time.

I decided to order the viral crispy falafel for myself and a viral crispy chicken shawarma combo for my fiancé from Bishos. I placed my order at 4:06 PM online and walked into the store 20 minutes later. It still wasn't ready so I sat down and enjoyed the lovely ambiance inside. Plenty of seating for customers, an area for photo ops and dates and water for those participating in Ramadan were just some of the perks I noticed. The employees appeared to have been speaking Spanish and they were all friendly with one another. It's clean and airy inside. I definitely want to come back and sit down for a meal. Prices were fair - about $34 for a combo meal (with fries and drink) and my falafel wrap. That includes a service fee and a 10% tip. 15 more minutes had gone by and the woman behind the counter brought my food to me packaged tight inside a brown paper bag. When I arrived at home, that first bite into the viral crispy falafel was unreal. It was so pleasing to hear the crunch, but most importantly, it tasted amazing. The falafel was fresh and so were the other ingredients. My fiancé got the combo with French fries and I can confirm the fries are crispy and seasoned very well. This is my new go-to whenever the taste for falafel hits. Thanks, Bishos!

The food wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. They have a lovely spot and they're definitely going for some sort of modern/fresh urban style that's not being lived up to. I love Asian fusion and my wife said she's tried one of their locations before and that we should try it, but it was a lot of oil and not a lot of flavor other than that. The chicken was kind of rubbery which I saw another review about and I'm surprised people love this spot as much as they do. This is not a bad spot if you want something new to try, it was a fun idea and interesting to try a new take. They don't have any real pictures of their food advertised and they're trying really hard to make it look like a fresh healthy menu, I don't think their meals reflect that. You could tell that the chicken was put in the box first, then the noodles mixed with a couple base veggies, then the cauliflower and blue cheese sauce on top. It didn't feel like a mixed vegetables stir fry the way I imagined. Again I think this could be really fun for people to try as a new spot, but I'm not sure we'll try them again. Their desserts do look great and may be worth us giving them another chance if we ever want to go out for a treat!

I attended RTF's first ever 5 course vegan dinner affair. It was elegantly setup with a piano…read moreplayer, cocktails (zero cocktails as an option) and spoon appetizers as a starter. I was lucky enough to attend an Elite event including RTF beforehand- so I wasn't signing up for this with a completely blind eye. What's nice about RTF being able to have this event is that it might be more accessible to people in the area because it's a one time deal. The meal kit delivery service maybe could be a one time deal too, but I am not sure. I also learned that RTF shines on its own with the meal delivery kit service because they serve fresh food. Purple Carrot, Thistle, and Sakara Life are all frozen (or placed in a refrigerated package) even though accessible nationally. RTF can only deliver in the Philadelphia area and pickup would have to be done in a limited time frame of around ~11-1 on-site on a Monday if not opting for delivery service. Before the meal started, chef Josh introduced his event team. He expressed some personal stories that went into the dishes such as how he created a classier version of hummus on his own from his learnings and desire for hummus. Then something about his mother making the latke. So, he "had to" have a dish based on this and his mother was present at the event. His version of a chef based hummus was creamy with fresh vegetable accessories and it definitely made me like hummus a lot more than your typical grocery store. Third came the risotto dish- my dish was a bit too oily, but fine otherwise. Then, the King Trumpet mushroom platter which replicated a "steak" with the mushroom just being slightly perfectly burnt. At least one of my friends did not like the King Mushroom- they may not be used to pricier things that are a bit different than what they are used to. The cauliflower puree added was essential to make this dish stand out. Lastly, dessert was a lemon black sesame cake with coconut cream and peaches. This was an Internet recipe as Josh is not as big on bakery (if I remember correctly), but the interpretation came out fabulous anyway! It's hard to choose one "best" item as it was a tie between the hummus, King Mushroom dish, and the dessert cake for me. The day ended with optional coffee w brown sugar and a choice of soy milk or oat Milk and a surprise chocolate chip cookies mini gift bag. (All unpictured) When I wanted to speak to Josh as he was in the back area cleaning up, his mother half-jokingly told me that he probably didn't want to hear from her. It looked like his mother pulled him out from whatever he was doing, but he was nice to spend some time with me and hopefully got some good ideas he can implement. We talked about how he had extra ingredients he would not want to waste and I mentioned TooGoodToGo. So, if you see an RTF TooGoodToGo, you heard it here first! Nothing But Love Soulfood Catering uses TooGoodToGo at the Culinary Collective. I learned that there was significant cost to rent the dining area even though rent is already paid to use the kitchen setup of the Culinary Collective. There was cost for the staff and the food is fresh. Many of the ingredients chosen are a higher quality and standard, and people don't always realize this. The availability of various items may not have been known except within a limited time frame.
