I wish that the restaurant was better. Ordered a schwarma , French fries and a soda. The schwarma was taken out of the fridge and heated in a skillet. There was a schwarma spinner grill, but NO meat on it. Hummus was added. Good pita bread. Basic fixings bar. Fries looked like home cut fries, but nothing special. Ketchup packets were not great to use. Needs a ketchup squirter I've eaten better, and hope that this food improves. Also, I was advised by a frum friend, that Kosher meat restaurants need on-site supervision, not just occasional. I am glad to see that the hours have been cut to observe Shabbos. Ok so first off, I haven't tried this place, but since my husband doesn't use the computer that much, I will write one for him. HE LOVES THIS PLACE! He is taking me here for the first time tonight. He says it's one of the best places to eat a falafel in Philly and we've traveled to israel and eaten many authentic falafels. The owner is wonderful and warm to every customer. Keep it goin'! EDIT: I finally went to Pita Pocket instead listening to my husband tell me how awesome it is, I can tell you! WOW! Their shwarma is amazing and I can't wait to visit again! You know how you drive past a place and wonder what it's like inside. This was the place. Everytime it would just stir up thoughts of 'one day I'll try it out'. And, so it was this day I discovered a gem! I tried the falafel there. It was absolutely delicious! I had the nerve to drive home as I was eating this thing! I kept saying to myself 'this is Heaven! this is Heaven!', like I have Tourette's. It was so fresh and seasoned so right! The bread was on point, they must make it fresh! This has to be the best falafel I have ever tasted. I haven't had Mamoun's (NYC) in a long time, but I think this has to be better. They have a bar where you can take pickled items which was also very fresh so to compliment your entree. This is by far the best falafel I've ever had, plus it's gluten free! I've passed by Pita Pocket numerous times but never had the chance to stop in. Didn't realize what I was missing out on in the Northeast! Going in for the first time today, I was given a plate to sample what was on the menu. Everything was amazing! It made it extremely difficult to decide what I wanted. I ended up getting a falafel with hummus on pita and added random selections from the salad bar. A friend recommended Pita Pocket, even though he's generally a meat-lover. My wife wanted to go somewhere for my birthday, but we had time constraints, and I picked Pita Pocket. My wife wanted meat, and knew from these reviews and the website that chicken was available (as schwarma, meat ground and spiced and cooked on a spit), and asked for a schwarma sandwich to get chicken. Ron (the owner) explained that they only got meat when they could get it of the quality they wanted, and they had no chicken today, but only lamb. Even better! Her sandwich was enormous, rich in flavor (with hummus and a tzatziki-like dressing). I had the falafel platter, and found it excellent: lots of hummus (with ollives for garnish), unbelievably fresh and soft warm pita, and tasty crispy falafel. For salad, there's a self-serve garnish/salad bar. (More than one serving of the excellent vegetable offerings would have left little room for the falafel platter.) We had stopped by once before, and left because the "Vegetarian" sign put my wife off. I'm sorry we did, and happy that we went back: I now want to try their sandwiches/platters, one-by-one, just to get the different flavors. (Sabich, for instance, is a pita with hummus, hard-boiled egg, and (marinated?) eggplant: that'll be my next meal there.) read more

I've driven past this place many times but for some reason felt like it might be kinda sketchy. Well, we went today, and boy was I wrong. My family and I were greeted by Adel the chef as we walked in. I immediately had a sense that this guy knew what he was doing. The menu was simple, but complete. Falafel was homemade and fresh. Side/salad bar and lots of fresh extras like picked radish and hibiscus sangria. Long story short, I'm super glad I stopped in there today. I had a major hankering for some fresh falafel and Adel made my day. Kids also chowed on the fresh humus, babaganoush, pita and olives. This place is almost 5 stars. This place is absolutely amazing. The owners are both incredibly friendly, talkative, and generous. I had the Chicken Shwarma which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in ages. The Falafel was cooked and seasoned well. The baba ghanoush sandwich was also very good. You get free "salad" (Mediterranean style) with your meal, all you can eat, and it's delicious too. Great place for chicken shawarma. Although the chicken can get a little dry, lathered in enough tahini sauce and red chili paste, accompanied with the multitude of options from the pickled add-ons and salad bar, it's just really really good. It can quickly get "messy" but that's going to be the least of your concerns. You'll likely have to explain to others why you didn't get enough to share. And I have to agree with those who laud their falafel. It really is fantastic. Not dry, like many places I've had in the city. Try it and you'll taste the difference. read more

It didn't taste greasy and had a subtle pop of the herb mixture. However, maybe because I went during a quiet time, I was only given about 4 toppings at the salad bar rather than the large variety of what others posted. The pita here is the best!! Ditto the baba ganoush -- best in the area. The hummus, eggplant, falafel, and chicken shawarma are similarly delicious. I thought that this place was awesome before I even ate any of their food! That was because I read that the owner is Jewish and the chef is Egyptian Muslim. Way to work together for the good of my taste buds. No matter what your dietary restriction is - kosher, halal, vegetarian, gluten-free - they've got you covered at Pita Pocket. And the food is tasty - the salad, fuul (Egyptian fava bean stew), chicken shawarma, and baklava were all delicious. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes authentic Middle Eastern food. I am taking some extra time to write for my appreciation of a great meal on a tough day. I traveled up to Philadelphia for a funeral from the DC area. I knew ahead of time that we would be in need of some kosher food after the funeral, since my Rabbi was with me and Philly Cheese steaks were not going to work.. The Cemetery was Har Nebo, very close by. So the day before, I used Google Maps to search for Kosher Restaurants near the cemetery. Pita Pocket came up as only 2.5 miles away. I looked at the reviews and knew I had the right place. We had the best Shwarma since Israel. Everything was fresh fresh fresh. And the atmosphere was warm and the Chef was very engaging and interesting. Ok, it was a little pricey, but all I know is that it was truly a meal of comfort and my wife and I were grateful to be able to share a wonderful meal with our Rabbi. read more

Super-unexpected. The falafel was nice and crunchy but good and soft on the inside. When handed the humus and tahina filled pita you are directed to the salatim bar to fill-up with whatever you would like. The salads are fresh, the falafel are good. The decor inside and out has MUCH to be desired. But, based on food: this place is great. There is a schwarma spit in the corner waiting to be plugged in. Their pita and humus also taste homemade and not like other places. Also, the Customer service was absolutely excellent. I need some dead animals in my food, dont hate me, its just the way I am. And the chicken Sharma sandwich hits the spot. The salty savoriness of the chicken combined with the creamy mellowness of the what I think is hummus really makes this sandwich work. We got the chicken shawarma platter with falafels and lentil soup. The platter comes with hummus, pita bread and a cucumber salad. There is also a sort of salad bar with pickled veggies, sauerkraut, pickles and rice you can choose from too that comes with your meal. Everything was tasty! Man has this place gone downhill. It used to be good. Went in a few weeks ago expecting to see a giant rotating skewer of chicken shawarma and instead what I saw was the meat come out of a ziplock bag and put in a sauté pan. Finally I found a great falafel place in the Northeast. This place rivals Mamas in downtown philadelphia. The Falafel Pita was fantastic, falafels were tasty, hummus was great. I filled my pita with cabbage, tomatoes and cucumber and spicy sauce from the salad bar. Picked up some picked cauliflower, carrots. So good. My girlfriend got the chicken shawarma which was absolutely amazing. I wish they offered lamb shawarma, i would have gotten that.
