Full disclosure: this was a DoorDash order. And I don't know why, but on DoorDash, this spot is operating as a ghost kitchen named "Falafel Town." You guys rate well on both platforms, why the smoke and mirrors? You have nothing to hide from! I ordered the grill trio (Mashawai platter), a huge order of seasoned lamb, cubed spicy chicken, and kufta kabab, peppered with delightful seasoned French fries. You can also get basmati rice or fattoush salad, but man, those fries are dynamite. And a huge portion size! Would easily feed two! I also ordered the falafel sandwich, "the works!" This is a great little middle eastern spot in Poughkeepsie! Ambiance isn't much in my opinion but we have gotten take out quite a few times and would head back! The "NY style" platters are the classic halal street cart style and the rice was fresh and well seasoned. The falafel is bombbbb! I always get a Greek salad but the last two times the lettuce wasn't super fresh which left me just a bit disappointed. Stuffed grape leaves also delicious. My husb loved the falalfel wrap and for $10 it's a great filling lunch option. So glad to have this authentic spot in Poughkeepsie. read more

I didn't even realize this place was in the area. I was looking for something new to try and stumbled upon this spot. I browsed through the menu and saw they offered a New York City style meal and was sold. It reminded me my trips to NYC to get chicken/ lamb and rice with white sauce. I ended up placing an order for the NYC plate after all. It tasted a little different than I was expecting but was very tasty. The meat had a lot of really good flavor and the seasonings used were perfect. It was a pleasant surprise. The white sauce was also lighter than I'd expected but was a nice compliment to the meal. The falafels were huge with a crisp exterior and nice fluffy center. I also ordered grape leaves or Dolma. I don't like the way everyone makes them. These were pretty good. The menu is unbelievable with a fantastic selection--food was prepared fast and the prices are very reasonable for what you get! Was craving a gyro and it was about 8 p.m. and this place was listed as open and close so I figured I'd give it a try. $13 for a gyro & fries! Maybe that's a good deal, IDK anymore... What I do know is the fries were soggy and the gyro meat was tough and thick. The pita bread was dry and there was little to no tzatziki sauce either making for a VERY dry eating experience. The people were friendly and that's always nice. I don't know how the rest of the menu is, but based on the gyro, I won't be in to find out. read more

We had the hummus on the side which was PHENOMENAL and a side order of Basmati rice with lentils, which we poured the Arabic salad dressing on and found utterly fantastic!! & Bonus points for homemade hot sauce and creamy tahini! I'd say a 3.5 stars. Ordered a beef schwarma wrap for take out, and I think that it looked and tasted more like a burrito than a wrap. It's grilled on both sides and flattened with tortilla (not pita), there's none of the typical lettuce, tomatoes and red onions that I am use to. The beef was in chunks versus in slices and mixed in with pickled greens. The beef was on the chewier side but the flavors all mixed very well together with the pickled greens. It's a decent spot, but I think I was just expecting more of a pita wrap. read more

I tend to be eager to try new things especially when it comes to food, so when I discovered Falafel Town amidst the sea of ubiquitous pizza, Chinese, and Italian restaurants, I was immediately excited. There are not many Middle Eastern restaurants in the Mid-Hudson Valley, and Hudson Valley in general, so the prospect of new tastes roused my stomach. Even more exciting was the fact that this restaurant appeared to serve Halal food reminiscent to NYC style. I opened the door and was greeted by an incredibly friendly counter clerk and waitstaff. They were eager to help me navigate around Middle Eastern food, and after coming back time and time again, we're on a first name "how's your family?" basis. So why did I decide to keep coming back? Simple; The food quality at this restaurant for the price is nearly unrivalled, and to be quite honest, somewhat unexpected. The smell of fresh vegetables, hummus, and cooking meat permeates the air. At some places, you wonder and hope that the food will be fresh, but when you enter Falafel Town and consistently smell the rich earthy freshness of vegetables and gaminess of meat, you know you're in for something that will teach your stomach a lesson or two; The food is so fresh it's like gastronomic rehab. I should preface now that nearly every dish I'm about to describe is made on the spot from locally sourced and natural ingredients, everyday, including Hummus, Tzatziki, White sauce, etc. Ah yes, the hummus. I never liked hummus until I had hummus made by Falafel Town. Incredibly savoury and silky smooth is the best way to describe it. Chicken and meats are seasoned with an amalgam of fresh herbs and spices, marinated and juicy, put on the grille to order. Falafel is crispy, and probably some of the best Falafel in the Hudson Valley. It's their own recipe. Yellow saffron rice is fresh, hot, and filling. The Baba Ghannoush has the rich smokey taste of freshly roasted eggplant, and the Dolmas are worthy. I grew up eating Dolmas as a child, these are good. The lentil soup with a hint of lemon and black pepper on top is full of flavour and had a rich consistency. Tabbouleh is light and refreshing with a fresh minty flavour in the vegetables that really wakes up your palate. My favourite dish is the M'jadara, which is lentils and rice, served with caramelised onions on top, fresh pita bread, and some pickled vegetables. If you're in the mood for a burger and fries, do not miss the Greek Burger with Feta Fries. Also, come with an empty stomach and be prepared to go to sleep afterwards because it's a decent size. The burger itself is juicy, done right, but the seasoning on the fries with Feta cheese and onions is otherworldly. If you are driving on Route 9 and looking for something new, this is a phenomenal introduction to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. The restaurant itself is tucked in next to a barbershop and deli, and does not face the highway so it's easy to miss, but it's worth the quick swing around at the intersection because it would be a shame if you did. Having another food genre in the Hudson Valley is always good, but when it raises the bar this much, it's in a class of its own. read more

I was a little disappointed in this place. I got the Beef Shawarma, and it really was lacking in flavor. Shawarma in my opinion is very flavorful meat that is well seasoned. It wasn't terrible, but I was expecting something a little bit more. I have had some amazing shawarma before, and this place just does not stand up to some of the other places that I have been. I am going to upgrade Falafel Town to a 5 star stop. Haven't been since the move to the larger (much nicer) space - huge upgrade. Very comfortable and clean. And the menu is larger now too! So we went on a little spree off topic from the namesake falafel, and we were rewarded well for our adventurousness. It's worth mentioning two knockout dishes -- don't miss the hummus and chicken shawarma meal. And even though the name is totally not Mediterranean, the Fiesta Fries are an absolutely delicious spin on poutine. And the service at the place - these people are so nice! If you like Mediterranean, you'd be hard pressed to find better a better flavor/value ratio anywhere around here. Worth the effort to find the place for sure. We ordered the hummus and tabuli to wet our appetites both delicious. I had the Hummus sharma of lamb with warm pita, so good. My friend had the lentil soup and raved about it, and a plate of M"Jadara, caramelizad onions, lentils and rice, quite nice I must say, though I added a bit of salt..I like salty food.
