I had one of the very best falafels ever at Holyoke Hummus Company. Yes, that is how I'm starting off my review. Believe the hype, even if the surrounding neighborhood doesn't seem the most inviting; the food is worth it. We walked in probably fifteen minutes before their closing time, and still we were treated exceptionally well by the owner, he really made us feel at home. My goal was to try as many items as possible so we got the fries, the Israeli salad, the original falafel sandwich, and the lentil soup which we all sampled off each other, and there really wasn't a single item that we didn't love. The star however was the falafel sandwich. It was incredibly flavorful, full of the Mediterranean spices you'd except from an authentic dish that hasn't been toned down to cater to the american palette, and I loved it; every single bite. I have to add that even though I didn't load a picture of it, I had also ordered the house made chai latte which the owner was kind enough to add almond milk instead of dairy, and that too was really good, I recommend that as well. For me, the cherry on top of this wonderful food experience was that they have games; yes like board/card games. My brother and I relived our youth playing connect four while we waited for our food, and I can't reiterate enough what a wonderful experience this was and I definitely plan to return. read more

Booth seating, a kiddie corner with toys and books, and a bunch of board games to play while you wait! Cute touch! I had never before eaten any falafel or Middle Eastern dish in my nearly 24 years on the Earth and let me just say, this place now allows me to hold high regard to how it tastes! I ordered the falafel sandwich and spilt a plate of latkes with my brother. Both plates were absolutely delicious and I'd happily eat another right now as I write this, though stuffed as can be! When I go back, I'm definitely going to try something else. SO many things looked good on the menu. My daughter had the pita pizza and I snuck a few bites of it....also quite good!! Lastly, my brother enjoyed the falafel plate. Basically everything that was in my sandwich but spread out on a plate! He too had nothing but good things to say about the food. Fresh, delicious and fast food with lots of welcoming features at the restaurant. We stopped for lunch after a morning at the Holyoke children's museum, with a couple of toddlers in tow. Order at the cash register and then enjoy the fun restaurant while you wait just a few minutes for your food to arrive. The dining area is stocked with tons of toys, games, books, and even a little food truck for kids to play on. I also appreciated the gender neutral bathroom (although for such an otherwise family friendly place they may want to invest in adding a wall-mounted changing table - just a suggestion!). We ordered several platters to share - the hummus, beet salad, tabbouleh, Israeli salad, chick pea salad, and grape leaves were all great. I didn't love the deep-fried pita chips - would have preferred fresh pita - but the olive oil and herbs they use to top the hummus were fantastically fresh and flavorful, so that more than made up for it. The real superstar of the meal for me was the "Shtetel Benedict" - a huge potato latke topped with a poached egg, mushrooms and onions that were sautéed with a ton of rosemary, and some light hollandaise sauce. If this is how they ate in the Shtetels I guess we've found the silver lining! Great house made beverages and pastry items too - this is the perfect post-museum stop where you can quickly recharge and enjoy a great meal. There's something for everyone! read more

My wife made the more reasonable choice and got the falafel plate, which is basically a deconstructed sandwich -- Israeli salad, hummus, falafel, pickles, grape leaves, and the most outstanding homemade pita chips you'll ever eat. We've been here many times and love the food. It does tend to be a little inconsistent depending on who is making the food. And I was totally bummed that there were no brussel sprouts available today. Also, the falafel wrap is too light on falafel as they use little ones and they get lost in the wrap. A worthy trek to holyoke if you're not a local. I had this humas from the truck at an event and went looking for the cafe. Falafel is fantastic as is the hummus and salad. Pita soft and perfect with lunch. Was touring my son and his girlfriend into holyoke ( he now lives out west). It baffles me that these guys don't have a permanent brick and mortar location, but they're easy to find every Thursday in Holyoke, and at Farmer's Markets in the summer (check their Facebook page to see where they'll be.)
