I've eaten here a few times. It's gotten better each time. Beans, salsa and other hispanic dishes that mom and abuela used to make. Service is like you are at home eating with family. The area is mostly quiet as well, not too noisy. I'm not in this area often but when I am, I do swing by here and offer friends to try out. read more

Very disappointing experience. To start off when I called I spoke to someone and mid conversation she went silent no response while I can hear background noise. I had to hang up and call again. The service was extremely poor -- the cooks were rude and even made inappropriate gestures in front of customers. The cashier was unprofessional and offered no apology when my order was delayed. Again inappropriate gestures were made right at my face. When I requested a cash refund, she told me to call my bank instead but I told her there's no need when I paid cash but since no receipt was provided she did not remember. The owner was present, and I tried to explain the situation, but his attitude was also dismissive and lacking any apology. This experience took up my entire lunch break. The restaurant wasn't even busy, yet the service was terrible. I do not recommend this place at all. Experiencia muy decepcionante. Pitic Restaurant - WORM - Mexican Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

This wasn't terrible by any means, but was a reminder/lesson that it's usually not the best idea to pick a place based on the Google description. My chum and I came here right off a plane from the nearby airport (literally a two-minute drive from the rental car garage) because we were pretty hungry, had a long drive ahead of us, and a quick perusal of the Google Maps of the nearby vicinity identified this as "award-winning Mexican." Call me skeptical. I don't know Phoenix well but I don't get the impression this neighborhood is the best (though in its defense, I'm hard-pressed to think of too many areas near airports that are). It was actually a little difficult to locate Pitic and its entrance because it has two separate businesses - the darkest bar I've ever walked inside of and a regular sit-down restaurant - and only the bar has any signage identifying itself. One of the employees at the bar immediately realized we were in the wrong place and nobly pointed us in the right direction. Both sections have bars covering the windows as well, which I usually associate with gun stores in NJ, but it's possible that's just a common feature around here. I ordered the chicken enchiladas (about $11), with beans and rice on the side (an extra $3 or $4 I think). I've been to my share of Mexican restaurants, and this is definitely the first time the rice and beans wasn't automatically included as part of the meal. Interestingly, the waitress went out of her way to suggest/offer them as an add-on, so I certainly got the impression a lot of people opt for them, in which case why not make it officially part of the entrée? It's a good thing I did though, because the one half of the enchiladas that I was able to coat with rice and beans was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, they ran out at that point and my first bite of the second half of the enchiladas was my last. They were SUPER dry and tasteless without those sides - pretty easy fix though. Beyond the specific food issues, the service and price point were excellent. Our waitress was very, very nice, and the other female staffer came by a few times to helpfully remind us that some of our dishes were very hot. Everything came out within a couple of minutes and we both did a double-take when we saw how low the bill was. You have a lot of options in the Phoenix area for generic Mexican. I'd probably go somewhere else where the food is a little tastier and the neighborhood a little less skuzzy. read more

If you ignore the exterior and step inside, you'll be able to get a decent meal at a very reasonable price. Pitic is a casual dining Mexican restaurant with great service. On this visit we had the enchiladas, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. Pitic offers two kinds of salsa's, one chunky with peppers, onions, and seasoning and the other a tomato based thinner sauce both were tasty and the chips were fresh and crispy. The enchiladas were good as was the rice, both were flavorful and nicely seasoned. Overall I would recommend this eatery, you won't be disappointed. read more

The interior is very casual and friendly but also clean and colorful. They give you homemade mild and hot salsa along with chips for starters. Having studied their menu beforehand, I knew I wanted to try their Enchiladas Suizas and Fajita Camarones. The shrimp fajita was delicious, with a hot freshly made tortilla and tasty grilled shrimp, onions and peppers in a ranchero sauce. The Enchiladas Suizas, however, were a huge disappointment because they were stuffed with the worst chicken I've ever eaten. Tough dried out parts and even some crunchy cartilage! It just didn't taste right. I've had frozen ("Smart Ones") Enchiladas Suizas from the supermarket that were better. The service was poor because they had only ONE waitress for the whole restaurant. Food took a long time to come out and the waitress didn't have time to check on me even once after delivering it. If this is what they are like on a Saturday night, I can't imagine what they're like during the week. So, bottom line, some of their food is great, some of it is terrible and the service was bad because they are severely understaffed. I ate here almost all my life the waitress were there since I was a little girl my mom was her favorite place back then but now they see you come in with kids watch out for the heavy set one she will ignore you and the food was horrible I got well me and my daughter and grandkids we both got the tapaquena and babies got chorizo and beans when you know that you are used to something so good and a lot of flavor I don't know but I been there 10 times this year and the food is cold and steak is a little thin no floor and 1 red enchilada was cold and dry no lettuce or salt.my grandkids chorizo was dry and cold omg it's like I know the eggs are expensive but damn!! Oh and the corn chips complementary my butt two small bowls after that $350 for a small Chip. I will never go to that run down Mexican food restaurant again or . even recommend it... I returned today, craving some enchiladas. As noted in a previous review they are still having "inflation buster" prices on the daily specials for $6.95. Today I opted for #8, a chili relleno, cheese enchilada and beef taco. $10.95 I think. Overall pretty good all the way around. Back in the 70s, Pitic was located on Buckeye Road near 20th St. It was a little, quaint Mexican restaurant known for great food in a huge variety of dishes not found elsewhere and lots of beer, especially for a Friday night after work. When the freeway link to Sky Harbor and I-10 came in, the place was bought and torn down. Some years later, Pitic reappeared in a strip center at 16th St & Mohave. It had the best food and servers, some who had worked there for many years. The most NOTABLE dish was the Cocido de Res - a superior soup rich with full flavored broth produced from beef short ribs, sweet corn, potatoes, carrots, and veggies. Enchiladas with eggs and the Steak Picado were superior to dishes found elsewhere. The tortillas and chips were made there and the chunky green salsa had the full array of flavors for various chilies. Eventually, I moved to the East Valley where some restaurants came close, but could never really challenged the food at Pitic. ALAS, a recent visit proved that Father Time, Covid, bad management, and inflation have all killed off the superior food at Pitic. The Cocido de Res had no flavor where the broth was just plain watery, the meat was sparse and flavorless, and there were just a slice of carrot and a small chunk of potato. The Steak Picado was a mess where they substituted shredded small chunks of beef in a gray looking sauce. Instead of a rich medley of onions,peppers, zucchini, there were bell peppers and corn. To make matters even more disappointing, the green chili burrito was filled with dry and hard pulled pork. Come on! It is not that hard to make a decent green chili burro! Make no mistake to assume this was a one shot deal as an old drinking buddy who still lives not too far away, came back to Pitic, ON MY REQUEST, to order the Cocido de Res and the Steak Pitic. Now he knows what the grub at Pitic used to taste like and reported it was all bad no. Plus, the prices have been raised, but the quality has terribly fallen. The food there may still taste OK to others, but real Mexican food does not taste like this. This was indeed a sad, sad awakening to find how far a great food memory has vanished due to Father Time, Covid, bad management, and cutting costs. BTW, I called 6 times before the manager would call me back and he admitted that this is just how the food at Pitic is now. Eat there at your own risk, but shouldn't you get great tasting food for your hard earned money. This is a MAJOR BUMMER and a sad, sad disappointment. read more

Stuck in a strip mall in a rough area next to the airport, the barred windows make you ask yourself why you decided to venture here. Opening the doors you'll find a L shaped dining area with waitresses that speak very little English. I'm feeling better about this place already. I'm seated instantly with chips and two salsas. The chips taste fresh and salted perfectly. The "salsa roja" has amazing flavor and the perfect amount of spice. The "salsa verde" is a little bland but full of fresh vegetables. I could drink the salsa roja. The shrimp cocktail came with beautiful color. The dish is filled with shrimp, cucumber, celery, tomatoes, and chunks of jalapeño. The first bite had an overwhelming taste if celery. As I dug deeper into the dish the flavors began to balance, but I didn't get a strong enough taste of tomato/ketchup to claim this as good as I've ever had. The shrimp cocktail is a very light dish that's worth getting again, but I wouldn't drive to find it. Pitic offers authentic Mexican cuisine and is worth coming back to explore the menu. The chips and salsa was fantastic and had two salsas to dip in. The chips were not oily at all and had great fresh flavor. My enchilada was delicious and the red chili sauce was so fresh and perfect. This has been my favorite restaurant since I was a child. I have been coming here continuously whenever I want to celebrate with my family. My recent visit has been great as usual and the chicken and enchiladas topped with cheese are always the best. They are served with a small serving of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. I have been reading reviews for Pitic for some time now, but have always ended up elsewhere; what a shame! This place has excellent food and everything is fresh. The chips and salsa were great! Chips were fresh out of the fryer and made from handmade tortillas. The salsas were both very fresh and tasty. The spicier salsa had just the right amount of kick! We ordered a combo plate with a taco, tostada and cheese enchilada. All were wonderful and tasty. The rice and beans are excellent too (especially the beans!). Our other order was a carne asada chimichanga, also excellent. The tortillas they use are wonderful and the chimi was cooked to perfection with a nice outer crust and light crispness on the inside. The carne asada was seasoned and cooked to perfection. It is located in an old strip mall that looks like it has seen better days for sure, but don't judge by looks alone! First time here. Coworker raves about this place so decided to try it. Kinda shady area in a old strip mall. Was skeptical about even going in but glad I did. Once inside I found a clean brightly colored dining area. Waitress was very friendly and took our order promptly. Ok so I always get a pretty good idea about how good the food will be by how good the chips and salsa is. I tried the red sauce and wasn't happy. It was kinda bland and flavorless. Then I tried the green sauce. Yum!! Had grilled chilies and was very tasty. The chips were hot and salted just right. Ordered the carne asada plate. Came with two large pieces of grilled steak, rice, guacamole, and a tortilla. The steak was a little fatty but had good flavor. LOL @ all the reviews from rich white people driving from Scottsdale (or where ever) to the heart of South Phoenix at just south of 16th Street & Broadway,who wanted an authentic "Mexican experience (whatever that is)," and are complaining they got it. They are probably just used to Arriba's, Macayo's, or some other corporate chain Mexican restaurant where they kiss your ass. If you want your ass kissed,don't come here. Just come for the food, and get your own water. But it's not like I saw the staff snarling at me when I stepped into the place, either. Service was adequate. Now, as for the food. It was OK. Pretty tasty, actually, but nothing super awesome. I had the taco enchilada, rice and beans. Different recipe, but I'd say on par with Filiberto's. My father and I found this place randomly on a Spring Training and Golf trip to Phoenix. The Dollar car rental agent recommended Pitic as a nearby mexican food restaurant. She warned us that they didn't speak english very well and I grinned to myself hoping that meant the food was authentic. I couldn't have been more happy. It was authentic and utterly "delicioso". Pitic is located about 2 blocks from the airport in Phoenix to the north I believe. There is a run down, slightly shady, maybe a bit dangerous looking strip mall painted in a traditional Mexican orange/pink adobe with iron bars over every window. Drive around the side and Pitic is located at the far end. There's an authentic mexican bar in front of it that shares a wall (and invariably music as well). Don't be deterred by the rough exterior. It is a facade that hides the warm family cooked mexican dishes and friendly service inside. My father and I each had margaritas which the waitress informed me had "mas liqour" (stronger than usual). I ordered the fish special and my father had the carnes (meat) special. Both were exceptionally flavored although not something that I had tried before in any other mexican restaurant. I like trying each restaurants special so this one was definitely a pass. It wasn't something I'd come back to Pitic for again but it impressed me enough to try their tacos on our next visit. Before I tell you about the tacos I should preface this by stating I hate corn tortillas. Detest them. Usually they're dry, flakey, and unappetizing. It just so happens I forgot to check what the tacos came in this time and when they showed up in corn tortillas I grimaced a bit. After a brief moment of self loathing for my poor short term memory I dug in. The tortilla was soft, chewy and I'm going to guess home made. It was absolutely amazing. The only other corn tortilla I had that was this good was from Super Rica in Santa Barbara, which is famous for their home made corn tortillas. I could have been fooled I suppose but either way the tacos were amazing. I normally find a favorite dish that will make me continuously come back to a restaurant to satisfy a craving. The carne asada tacos are Pitic's craving-satisfier for me. Find this gem and try them for yourself. Bring a spanish dictionary or a friend who has a bit of broken spanish. You should get along fine and you won't be disappointed. Thank you to both the waitresses that took care of my Father and I. One was very motherly and took amazing care of us, the other was "muy bonita" (very beautiful) and I loved the extra strong margarita. Gracias! read more
