Best yet, these women are big on safety and try to place new students in a level that appropriately challenges while ensuring that you learn the core principles of the aerial art. P.S. They have classes that start as early as 18 months (mommy & me) and run all the way through adult fitness classes. The school is divided into several divisions. Children's (the youngest through around age 8), student (8 through around 14), pre professional and graduate. Anyone can participate in the children's division, but you need to audition for placement in the student division. PBT also has an adult fitness/wellness curriculum that has classes like ballet 101 and Pilates. The staff and teachers are absolutely wonderful. They genuinely care about each and every kid (or adult) in their class. PBT as a whole is wonderful as well! They do several mainstage productions a year including the Nutcracker every December. They are always creative, beautiful and just a joy to watch and appreciate the artistry. I especially love when they are productions with the orchestra. Overall, an amazing organization with a wonderful school and great productions.

I enjoy the Pittsburgh references to the story and in the scenery but, really, the hockey-stick-carrying penguin, the rats waving "terrible towels" were a bit strange. As were the "local celebrities" who were given non-speaking, non-dancing (thankfully!) roles as party guests-- why?? What could be next? Pittsburgh Dance Moms in minor roles? Apparently I prefer a more traditional version of The Nutcracker. I missed some of the costumes and dances from the original Balanchine production. I know that some will say that it's predictable and static to do this the same way every year, but when I think of this ballet, it is what I want to see. That being said, the dancers were wonderfully talented and executed their movements perfectly. We are fortunate to have their talent in Pittsburgh!

A number of our neighbors take their children here and I'd heard positive things, so I signed her up. She LOVES it, and practices her plies all week. She's done gymnastics, martial arts and soccer at the JCC and hasn't taken to anything like she's taken to this. Holly, who teaches the class is just wonderful with the kids. Her teaching is totally appropriate for their level and the class is so much fun to watch. We also met the owner elsewhere in town, and liked her as well - very friendly and warm. The only issue I have is with the online registration, which is confusing, lengthy and frustrating. It's also the only option - you can't sign up on location. There is no confirmation that you are in the class - you just give them your credit card and show up and hope for the best. I would love to see this fixed. I really can't justify docking them a star for this though, because it's just a small detail.

I cannot recommend this studio enough as a newbie to the practice (at 40, no less) for its approachability and overall commitment to its community and students. Stacey, the owner, teaches most classes. She will likely know your name by the second or third class, but she'll greet you with a welcoming smile from the moment you step in the door regardless of how many times you've been in the studio. Classes are fluid - quick to pick up the flow but usually include some variation each class to keep things interesting for those attending regularly. All of the teachers offer pose accommodations for those who aren't as far along in their practice or who are maybe working through an injury or disability. I've also really enjoyed classes with Ashley, who makes the best yoga playlists IMO, and Elizabeth, who offers hands-on adjustments (for those who opt in) which are both helpful and incredibly calming. If I can enjoy hot yoga as someone who loathes being hot and for whom sweat is overstimulating, anyone can. Each class is a welcome respite from the chaos of the world, and I can't recommend SHPY enough for that respite. The studio is LGBTQIA+ friendly and welcoming of everyone. Prices are pretty standard for yoga studios, but they also run specials on class passes frequently enough if funds are tight - following their IG seems to be the best way to keep up with any specials on offer. They also have pay-what-you-can nights on Tuesdays, beginner classes on Wednesdays, and gentle/restorative classes on Sundays. Overall, A++, 5/5 stars, would recommend.

The teachers include lighting adjustments and music well. The music is carefully chosen- not distracting. The 10 Class pass and the 20 class pass options make it budget- friendly. ABOUT THE HEAT: If you're heat sensitive like me, I recommend skipping poses, or even entire sequences, and only do exactly WHAT YOU FEEL LIKE DOING, and not a single pose more.
