    Meat calzone

Well worth the 60 second drive off Hwy 85. I was pleasantly surprised by this gem on the outskirts of town. The Barn has a huge game room, colorful salad bar and serve Wyoming's best beers. I devoured a delicious meat calzone that has me excited to go back. You can tell this place is a favorite among locals.

While visiting Newcastle, we had the worst meal in a LONG time here. This was the first place we tried when we got to Newcastle since we foolishly believed the billboard that said it was the best food in Wyoming. It was not the best food on the block, let alone the state. Our waitress was very nice, but there's no getting over the terrible food. I have no idea what was in the "homemade" lasagna, and I'm not sure I want to know, but I forced down about 1/3 of it, chewing on the bouncy mystery meat nuggets and trying not to think about it while hoping it would get better. It didn't. My wife ordered the tortellini, which is the worst she or I had ever tried. It was so lukewarm the shredded cheese on top didn't even melt. There are much better places to eat in Wyoming. Don't bother with Pizza Barn.

The barn mac pizza did not last long!!!

Extremely slow service. Food was iffy. It took like one hour to get our drinks. Bad waiters.

Sure beats franchise pizza. Served by caring, honestly caring townsfolk. Can't believe all the memorabilia decorating outside & inside.

Unless you like being lost without cell service. You will regret not heeding my instructions. Also, know you need reservations! If it is winter time, do not trust your GPS when it tells you that you can passover from Hill City to Wyoming. It is a filthy lying dog. You might end up waist deep on a snow trail and on your feet. I didn't quite get that far, but it was dicey turning around from how far I did get. Now, for the place. Love the atmosphere and love Judy and Frank and their non-nonsense approach to serving food. They were so friendly and welcoming, and treated us like family. We ordered ribeyes and prawns, along with desert (it was my daughter's birthday). Our steaks were flavorful and good cuts of meat. Our only complaint was that they were a tad bit overcooked. Frank says that they will do better next time, and we trust them! We are true-blue ranch raised Texans who mean it when we say we want our meat somewhere on the line of blue and rare. However, because the meat was good quality and full of flavor, we were forgiving and still ate it all! You do not choose your sides here. You get what you get, and it is good. I do not even usually like asparagus, yet it was scrumptious! We had delicious potatoes too. Our family is eager to return and eat again, once the trail between here and there is reopen. We don't mind driving that far to eat there either, but when it is 20 minutes vs 90, it will be much more frequent for us. This place is truly a jewel.

This is one of the places you just eat the food how it comes because it's prepared that well. Seasoning is great and the sides accompany the protein just right. I felt like I was at grandmas place when I was a kid and did not leave hungry. I didn't have room for dessert but I'm sure it would have hit the spot. The place gets packed so get there early.

We were visiting from North Carolina and celebrating our anniversary, and the entire experience made the evening incredibly memorable. From the moment we arrived, the host team was warm and welcoming. Although we were about 15 minutes early, our table was already prepared--a small detail that showed genuine care and attention. Our wonderful server, Teagahn, was full of smiles and positive energy. She took exceptional care of us throughout the evening and made us feel completely at home. The food was spectacular and far exceeded our expectations. We've experienced everything from hole-in-the-wall gems to high-end restaurants such as Michael Mina, and Skogen ranks very high on our list--honestly, even better than Hell's Kitchen. Every plate placed in front of us was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The lobster salad and lobster bun were delightful starters. Our swordfish and filet were cooked perfectly, with balanced flavors and well-proportioned servings. What elevated the experience even further was watching Skogen's remarkably talented young kitchen team--mostly in their late teens and early twenties--handle a very busy dinner service like seasoned professionals. They were focused and polished, yet still friendly and personable. A special shoutout to Dominic, Teagahn, Rosalinda, Lance, and Joseph, the executive chef and owner. The combination of amazing food, genuine hospitality, and an outstanding team made our anniversary dinner one we will not forget. Our entire experience at Skogen was exceptional. It is highly recommended and absolutely worth planning your visit around!
