However, upon arrival, we discovered that it had changed ownership and was now exclusively serving pizza under the same owner which is a bit disapppointing. Great pizza, some of the best I've ever had. Just perfect. I confess I was disappointed to discover this was no longer a burger joint, but the delicious pizza made up for it. Lots of interesting menu items (including burger wrap and salad). Service was great. You walk up and order your meal. There is a counter with utensils, water, etc so you can self-serve. I came from Southern California to visit my sister, who lives in Rapid City. We went to go to see the Bison in Custer State Park. Every restaurant we went to on the main drag of Custer was closed for Thanksgiving. Black Hills burger and pizza was our only choice. And boy, was I glad. Their food is excellent. My sister ordered a customized pizza with their homemade Italian sausage, mushrooms and peppers. It was excellent. Their crust is just perfect. I ordered the Cheeseburger with bacon salad. Don't knock it until you've tried it! It was so good!!!!! Not sure why they changed their name. Oh! I know. People don't do internet searches for Sauce and Dough! Hidden gem in the black hills! Custer is such a cool town, busy and happening! We stumbled across Sauce & Dough from Yelp and so glad we did! Their pizzas are amazing, and the selection all over the place. We tried the Cheeseburger Pizza and the Cheese Curds appetizer. Both were amazing! The curds had a nice light breading and light on the grease dipped in your choice of sauces (ranch for us). The pizza crust was the same light, puffy, crunchiness! The food came out lightning fast and hot! Every table was full so I assume it always is with the product they serve. The servers were attentive and genuinely nice. Even with a packed house they gave every table proper attention. Decently loud in there, but the whole town is load :) One note, you order at the counter but they wait on you after seated, so make sure to tip up front or leave some cash on the table. Tasty pizza with light, delicious dough. It's a pretty straightforward gourmet pizza experience: good toppings, good crust, good portion sizes. They've got it dialed in. The standout was honestly the service - extremely friendly! Like we were all hometown best friends somehow. We'd go almost anywhere for service like that. This restaurant used to be the Black Hills Burger & Bun; however, over the winter they closed and re-opened as BH Sauce & Dough. They serve Pizza, Hoagies, Wraps & Salads along with Shakes. My husband and I enjoyed the pizza on our 1st visit, the hoagies on the 2nd and pizza again on the 3rd visit. I ate here previously when it was under a different name and served primarily burgers. It was so delicious that I intentionally drove out of my way to eat there. Since then, food choices have changed. My dietary needs have not. I am still gluten-free, dairy-free. I requested help with the new menu. I ordered a make-your-own pizza on a gluten-free crust and was assured that everything was gluten-free and dairy-free. The toppings I had were chicken, bacon, red onions, and mushrooms. That did not turn out. There was gluten in something. Unfortunately, once you've digested the food, you aren't left to deal with the consequences. So, I believe this is where we part ways. I cannot take that risk with my dietary needs again. Staff were kind and professional and attempted their best to be accommodating. It didn't really work out this time. To start off the ambiance is nice and relaxed. It's a casual environment with nice seating arrangements. The service was good and the staff was kind, welcoming, and friendly. They were very active and made sure we had everything we needed. The pizza was good, but not anything overwhelmingly delightful - although you could tell it was homemade so I'll definitely support it! They offered sweet tea - my favorite - but there were no free refills for the sweet tea which was disappointing. But overall, a good pizza place to stop.
