After making our way there on the way home from a trip, with the hope to have dinner inside of the restaurant, nope the dining room was closed due to Covid (or lack of help). But, having the restrooms with an out of order sign, not cool or acceptable! We waited for our three pizza's a bit annoyed, but hungry nonetheless. When we received our pizza's, the picture below is what mine looked like. Mind you, the pizza only traveled from their store to our car in the parking lot. Local pizza at it's best. Typical and some unusual (Greek Yaya pizza) choices. If you want it the traditional way ask for it in the old ovens (otherwise it's made in an automatic oven and IMHO not quite as good). Crispy crust that is soft inside. Even the cheese on the ends can be crispy, yet is soft and tasty underneath (this is with the old oven). The first time I had it I was not sure what all the fuss was about. After the second time I was hooked. Any time we travel to southern Maine we try to work in a trip to Pizza by Alex. Don't be turned away from this place just because they only offer personal size pizzas. These are solid pies. The menu is a bit short for choice, but you can build your own pizza from a list of ingredients if none of the pre-made pizzas interest you. We ordered the Hawaiian & the Peperoni over the phone and went to pick it up. Took about 20m for it to be ready. When we arrived to pick up these 2 pies, I was nervous that 1, 10" pizza wouldn't be enough food for me so I ordered another. This one was green peppers, bacon, hamburger, and extra sauce (because why not). This one was my favorite out of the 3. Quick service, good food, but no much by way of choices. We were in Biddeford for a softball game and were all starving for a late night dinner that we could take on the ride home. I've heard great reviews about Pizza by Alex and was excited to try it. To my surprise, upon review of the menu, I quickly learned 10 inch pizzas are their specialty. It made decision making easy and gave us all the opportunity to get the toppings that we wanted, without having to compromise. When it came time to pickup and pay, I was surprised to be told it was a cash only establishment and there was an ATM on site if needed. After I took a second glance at the website, I saw the disclosure but it didn't stand out by any means. I highly recommend they make this message more apparent. Luckily, I did have cash on me but I got a very annoyed vibe from the cashier when I first handed her my card. The vibe would be the only reason I'm not giving them a 5. Nobody behind that counter smiled and there were 4 employees plus the owner present. Nobody exchanged any friendly banter with me, at any given time. It was almost awkward to wait for the 2 mins I was in there. When I finally got the pizza to my car, we all took that first bite and in unison let out a full mouthed "Mmmmmmmmm." The dough is cooked to perfection, crispy but not hard, greased but not soaked, still soft and fluffy on the inside. It truly was the perfect bite. Hats off to absolutely nailing it. Always one of my first stops when I am there in the summer. Alex Pizza is my favorite pizza place by far. Love the crust, especially when cooked in the "old oven". Highly recommend!!! Also, this year, they had to deal with Covid-19 and they seemed to be taking every precaution. No inside dining. Phone orders only and one person inside at a time for pick up. My only complaint is that with their addition of the parking lot, they certainly could add a few picnic tables for patrons to eat outside instead of sitting in our cars. read more

Always pass by this place while driving around town so figured we'd give it a try! They only do personal-sized pizzas, so we got one cheese and one bacon. They are only doing to-go orders at the moment which are only able to be placed over the phone. Upon arrival, there was quite a line to pick up orders! I was suddenly even more excited to try this pizza since there seemed to be such a following. When it was my turn to go inside to pick up my order, staff was very friendly and informed me that they had recently started accepting debit/credit (they were previously cash-only). My order was hot and ready- I paid and drove home to devour the pies. My partner and I agreed that they were good quality pizzas, but we did find them to be a bit expensive considering the size of the pies. read more

I want to give them a good review because the pizza really is delicious, but the staff were so incredibly rude. We ordered for the first time a couple weeks ago and two out of the three pizzas were amazing, and the third was decent but seriously lacking bacon for being a bacon pizza with onions added. When I called to order tonight I mentioned this and was told "We usually put 17 slices of bacon on" (she could have said 7, but it sounded like 17 to me, which seemed like a lot) and I explained mine definitely had nowhere near this and the bacon was very thin. She told me "that's just how it comes" in a really rude tone. I explained fine but bacon pizza should have enough bacon on it for you to taste it. She then asked if I wanted extra bacon, and I said not if it costs more, because honestly, I'm not in the habit of paying extra for what should be included. She asked if that was it and hung up, didn't tell me how long it would be, and didn't ask for my name. I arrive trying to be in a good mood, deciding to give them the doubt and walk in to an adorable little puppy in tbe entry way with a case of beer holding it's leash in place. Clearly another customer's dog and it cheered me up. I walk in and get in line to pay, and three or four people walk in and get in line behind me. When it's my turn they skip over me and take the next person THREE TIMES. I'm standing there, at the front of the line, and they are pointing to people behind me and asking for their names and ringing them up. Now I'm getting annoyed again. Finally they had taken care of everyone else but me, and one of the girls takes out her phone and checks it before bothering with me. She asks my name, and I say "Nobody asked for my name on the phone, but it's Natalie and I..." and she cut me off "Oh, its you. Your pizza will be ready soon, it's $17.77." I hand her a $20, which she looks at three times as if I'm trying to short her, then takes it and gives me my change, then goes and whispers (loud enough for me to hear though) to the other girl "That's her." I go sit (because I'm pregnant and tired and still have no idea how long it will be). While I'm waiting one of the girls steps into the back room and begins loudly complaining about other customers "Usually they say thank you" she says before checking her phone. After a few minutes the other girl says "Uhm. Excuse me, your pizza is ready!" Every other person had been politely called up by name. She shoves my pizza across the counter and says nothing. I walk away, nearly in tears, because that is how nasty these two girls had been to me, and I felt incredibly embarrassed as it was pretty obvious to the others waiting. Don't understand why people buy these businesses that have a name and change them, hello,don't change what was perfection. This is by far some of the best pizza I have ever had. Pizza by Alex is a no-nonsense cash only pizza joint in Biddeford. There are only personal pan pizzas that you can pick up in paper plates, there's no delivery, and the interior is anything but fancy. Prices are significantly cheaper than even the national brands, which might explain the simplicity. The pizza here is simply stellar. I got a basic pepperoni pizza and was blown away: it was perfectly doughy and cheesy and meaty without being too much of any of those in particular, and I found myself wolfing down the pizza so quickly it barely had time to rest on the table. People have been telling me Alex's pizza is the best pizza. I ask why, and they cannot really explain and just say it is. So I question further. What kind of pizza is it? How is the sauce? How is the price, etc etc. Being a New Yorker, I like my pizza crust thin, and I do "the fold." That is just how it is simply done. I get some more information regarding Alex's pizza. The crust is crispy underneath, it isn't too greasy and it's sort of pan style. Still, with all this description, this pizza still seems allusive to me. What is this obsession with this place by some, and others could careless? Will I be a convert and not? So I finally got to order my Alex's pizza. Mushroom, onion and I think green pepper. Mind you, they don't have pizza boxes here. It's placed between 2 pieces of cardboard and in a plastic/paper bag. Tacky, I know. Anyway, first visual instinct when seeing this pie. The mushrooms are canned. I know, but that was my first instinct. Anyway, I took a piping hot slice and bit into it. Though very hot, I have to admit it was undeniably to me, DELICIOUS. It is a thin-style pan style pizza crust. And it wasn't greasy at all. I usually avoid pizza because it is greasy and I feel disgusting after consuming it. I felt neither of these things. I actually made myself eat basically the entire pie because I really enjoyed it. No, I am not a traitor to my native state. But there is something appealing about Alex's pizza. If you're craving the pan style without all the extra grease or extra bread, Alex is the way to go. The thing is though, they only have 1 size, and the pies are pretty pricey. Mine was 8 and change (canned mushrooms are CHEAP so it is because they can, obviously) and the pie was only maybe a little bit larger (but thin mind you) than your standard personal pizza. Good pizza. Clean store. The pizza is slightly over average thickness, but not as thick as deep dish. The toppings were fresh. And it doesn't take long to cook the pizza since they are all individual size. They also let you split the pizza toppings half and half. read more

Alex Pizza was the place to go in Biddeford since I was in the old middle school just up the street and we would walk there after dances. I actually met the original Alex after I was grown up but it was his nephew I recall managing things behind the counter for the most part. Sadly, things change. Alex Pizza is not the pizza it once was. The nephew sold to relatives and then changed happene. The main change seems to be the crust. The edge of the crust is very hard, almost overcooked and I used to love the edge of their crust. When I had it last week the overall crust had a hard cardboard texture to it. My husband says he's done with Alex Pizza. Also, the manager stares at you during payment when the tip screen comes up. Like pressuring you to tip.
