I went to Pizza by the Pound for dinner on a Saturday night. It was expectedly busy, yet they were understaffed. Only two waitresses were tending to the restaurant at full capacity. It took at least 15 minutes before we got our drinks and even longer to get a chance to order. 45 minutes in, our appetizer finally reached the table. We ordered the sampler to try a little bit of everything. The fried mushrooms were more bread than mushroom and same for the onion rings. However, the fried Mac n' cheese was good. Our pizza arrived shortly after the appetizer. The pizza was fantastic and by far, the highlight of the night. We ordered a large cheese pizza on traditional crust with extra cheese. The restaurant was filled with noise due to all the tables being close together in a confined space. It was difficult to hold a conversation without raising my voice at times. While the food was delicious, poor staffing tarnished the experience. We waited over 15 minutes for a refill as the waitresses helplessly scrambled around the restaurant. There is no excuse not to have adequate staff on a Saturday night when many customers should be expected. The pizza is almost worth the egregiously long waiting times. Patience is advised. read more

It's like your favorite dive bar, but with the best pizza you've ever tasted. The tackiest pictures of Elvis & Marilyn you could ever Google. The ugliest beer lights ever created, especially that one from Coors. All hanging on the puke pink walls. Restrooms last updated in about 1977. Long ago dead plants in rusty old pots out on the patio. Except for Yuengling, the same 5 beers on tap for at least 3 decades and counting. But the pizza, wings, and breadsticks are the best, hands down. The beer is cold, and the service is usually excellent. Terry is the owner, and is the grey-haired guy usually sitting at the 3rd barstool from the right. Nice guy. His wife is usually tending the bar. Went for lunch on Tuesday so not that busy but still lots of people who all seemed to kinks each other and enjoy a lot of laugh and talk around the bar. Let me start by saying that I have never had service or experience bad enough to leave a negative online review, coming from years in retail I always give benefit of the doubt. Tried to set up a time 7 hours in advance to take the pounder challenge that is advertised for the store, I was told to speak with a manager and that it would be no problem, so I spoke to a female manager and told her the time I would like to try it, which was 8 pm well after dinner rush, and she was very rude and told me that there was no way theyd be able to do so on a weekend and that I would have to try another time. I work in sales and with public and regardless how busy I am when someone comes in with something very time consuming, regardless if it is Tuesday or primetime weekend, I am more than happy to take care of them and spend the time to do so. Friendliness and keeping true to what your page says, which is to try the pounder challenge any time, goes a long way. We will not be visiting here again and will be sure everyone knows our experience. read more

Passing through Paducah on a road trip. Luckily after an employee at a local liquor store told me Mellow Mushroom was the best pizza in town (which immediately disappointed me), his co-worker overheard then quietly said, "Now do you want the truth?" He told me Pizza by the Pound, hands down. I had driven past a few minutes earlier and given the cars outside and general look of the place, I thought they must be good. Was glad he said it. Called for takeout. Half hour, which is completely acceptable. I was only 5 minutes away, so decided I'd go early and grab a beer while I waited. Despite the size of the parking lot, there is plenty of seating inside. Now, this isn't going to be the widest of beer selections, but I didn't expect it either. So ordered my Miller Lite and watched some baseball while I chatted with the friendly staff. Menu was surprisingly big with sandwiches, dinner specials, low carb options, and of course, pizza and a wide variety of appetizers. Took my two pizzas and motz sticks and headed back to the hotel. Everything was delicious. I found myself hoping the kids wouldn't eat another motz stick so I could have the rest. Pizza was really good. Had a half pepp/half cheese for the kids and a pepp, salami, and sausage for me and the mrs. We will definitely return if we ever find ourselves in Paducah again. read more

Admittedly, I may have been expecting way too much. I had heard such amazing reviews, but my experience was really just okay. I've had better pizza. I may have been turned off by the musty odor in the restaurant, the split vinyl seats in the booths, and the extremely poor service. The place is in a eclectic old bar. The menu is varied standard bar fare. Some of the friends I have been with during my visits here have eaten a variery of appetizers and meals that looked great and my companions say are very good. I can't attest to most of the items on the menu because every time I come here I only get the pizza, which is BY FAR best pizza in town. Well worth the trip here if you are a pizza lover! Great little neighborhood local bar restaurant. The onion rings are awesome, the pizza is really good. Since the pizza dough is thick, one piece of pizza is plenty for me. You can top off the last piece of pizza dough with honey if you are inclined. The beer is cold and flows pretty freely. The visitors can get loud with laughter and fun. PBTP is a great local pizza place known for their thick crust pizza, which is made with honey. You are also encouraged to eat your pizza crust with honey, which is provided with the condiments and seasonings at each table. Their pizza is delicious, and the honey crust combination grows on you. I also highly encourage their fried mushrooms, which are batter dipped and fried in house. The only con is that their service can be slow. Expect to spend an hour or more at the restaurant. read more

I'm being generous by giving two stars. The food was good the atmosphere however was a different story. If you are a coffee drinking and enjoy eating and being able to hear other tables conversations and other customers smack there food then this is your Saturday night spot. If you are looking to have a beer eat good pizza and listen to music then don't go to this restaurant. You could feel the tension between the staff and I am disappointed to have wasted a Saturday night dinner at this location. read more
