Great place to stop when checking out Metropolis and the Superman stuff. My only complaint is that you order food on one side of the room when you walk in and order at the counter, then find a seat and a waitress takes your order from the other side of the room and you have to pay twice. I don't mind ordering food at the counter and picking up the food when the number is called, but really a strange system. We were there for lunch and the food for our group was excellent. The Smashburgers looked wonderful and the feedback was they were as good as they looked. I had a fried cod sandwich, and it was just okay. I wished I had tried either the BBQ or the Smashburger options. Really liked the vibe of the place and would definitely stop again, just feel like they need to figure out the dual-ordering system to make it more user friendly. They offer peel-and-eat shrimp as a specialty and I hope to try that next time as well. read more

Walk in and order at the counter. Pay for everything but your drinks. They bring the food out to you. The waitress comes around for your drink order and that's on a separate ticket. It was weird, and the waitress was busy so we sat for a long time waiting on drinks after we had our food. We all ordered waters, so I'm not sure why that couldn't have been taken care of at the counter to prevent having to eat without a drink or food getting cold while you waited for the waitress. This is a unique restaurant you order food and pay for food where you order. When you sit down you order your beverage and you pay at the table for this. The night we went I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and my wife had the California Chicken salad. The salad was fully loaded with a mix of greens and a delicious raspberry vinaigrette. The Philly was grilled fresh on a grill.and was an ample sandwich. We also had an order of Onion Rings which were hot and fresh. One of my favorite aspects of this place are the separate condiment table. All Heinz products mustard,ketchup, and mayonnaise. This is my favorite restaurant in Metroplis, Illinois. I had been here several times before but I hadn't been there in years so my friend and I were hungry and we went in and ordered some burgers with fries and a salad and some peel and eat shrimp. Salad was nothing special but it was the best thing I had. The burgers were greasy and burnt and I don't mean a crispy edge but they charred it and it was hard. Not much to say about the service since you order when you go in at the counter but it took a while to get the drinks. Great spot in Metropolis near the Superman statue. I usually come here before or after I hit up Harrah's. Used to be a Fast Eddie's of the Alton variety years ago. They've kept a similar ordering style with a central ordering point and self pick up. A little pricier but without the drink minimum. My service was awesome at the bar. This place used to have the best wings. Been coming here for years when in the area. Now the wings are precooked frozen breaded wings that they heat up. Some of the worst I've ever had. Fat Edd's Roadhouse was a pleasant surprise on our recent, brief visit to Metropolis. We were passing through the area and decided to check the Superman Statue off our bucket list. After our photo-ops at the statue we were hungry, and decided to give Fat Edd's a try. When you walk in: go to your left if you are hungry, and right if you are thirsty. The restaurant and bar are operated separately. You order and pay for your food on the left and order and pay for your drinks at the bar on the right. The day we visited there was a waitress for the bar side. She was very friendly. For the food, you walk-up and order at the counter. They will call you when the food is ready. My wife tried the California Salad, and I had a BBQ Chicken Sandwich. We also ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip. Everything was very tasty. If you are looking for good food, friendly service, and reasonable prices, I recommend you try Fat Edd's Roadhouse. read more

Food Drink - Just water. Lunch - Philly Cheesesteak, blah is the best way to describe the dried out meat. The only thing saving it was the cheese and there was not much of that. Service - Lacking, so you need to order your food from one area and drinks for the bartender. The bartender did visit us at the table. She delivered the drinks and forgot about us. It took some effort to pay for the drinks that were ordered. She literally said she forgot about us. Future - Probably not, but it is a business trip with a lot team members, so who knows. read more

I can't speak for the food, as we were just in for a quick happy hour before dining across the street (though I am pretty sure I tried the food many years ago while passing through and thought it was good). A nice, old-school bar with friendly staff and fair prices. Great, clean divey bar feel with baseball and the olympics on the tube, good music on rotation, and great drink options and prices. A bit of a different set up here. You order your food at the grill and pay for the food there. Then you find a seat and a waitress sells you your drinks. It essentially a very large bar with a grill so maybe the set up is for that reason. I thought about getting a grilled chicken sandwich, but the women at the counter said I should try the pulled pork. I did and regretted it. The pork was old, tough and dry. Perhaps the worst I'd ever had. My wife had a pice of fish which she said was ok and onion rings which she said were good. Two friends had burgers and thought they were good. Service was poor. Our waitress never came back to check on drinks, so I carried them all to the bar to get refills. I just don't think I'd ever return, they do a good business there but I guess the options in town are limited. If you do go, avoid the pulled pork! read more

Was looking forward to this all day on my drive up from Cape Coral. This has been a regular stop on the way to St Louis for a long time If you're going to have an open kitchen. You need to follow Heath Dept codes, I watched multiple kids touch their faces, hair etc...no gloves of any kind not that it would have mattered. No education. Another road trip dinner spot. Once again, I referred to Yelp and this place hit all the marks. With the eclipse being in this area tomorrow, it was a lot busier for this time of year. Edd's was busy and loud, but things went pretty fast. The only issues is people aren't prepared when they go up to order, even though you have plenty of time to look o er the menu while waiting to place your order. I ordered dinner at the counter while he grabbed us a table. He was able to order these delicious cocktails, a specialty for the Eclipse and they were only $6.25. For dinner we had an order of 6 pieces of peel and eat shrimp, house salad and the steak and Bleu salad. They hand you the chilled shrimp right after you order, so we thoroughly enjoyed them while waiting for the salads. Even though the place was busy, we got our salads fairly quickly. The house sale had lots of tender greens, a hard boiled egg, chopped tomatoes and red onions, sliced cucumbers, shredded cheddar cheese, and thin crispy potato sticks. The steak salad also had lots of the same greens, crumbled blue cheese, thinly chopped steak, sautéed mushrooms and onions. Fine for what it is: a roadhouse. A neighborhood hang-out. The setup is a little odd: you order food from the kitchen on your left as you walk in the door and pay for it right there. They call out your number and you fetch your food. Meantime, maybe you've sidled up to the bar and ordered a cold one. You'll pay for that separately. Maybe that's not a bad thing because your bar tab will smaller, you probably tipped modestly for the food (if you tipped at all), and so your overall bill (with a tip for the bartender -- PLEASE!) will be smaller. Oh, and the food. Only had a Philly cheesesteak there once but it was huge, fresh, dripping with juices, and worth the modest wait. There's also a sidebar with condiments including lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, etc., if you want. Maybe not for a cheesesteak but they have other items on offer including burgers, so if my sammy was any indication, they'll be good, too. Not fancy but clean and bright, and my bartender was helpful and friendly enough so, no complaints. I'll go there again if I'm in the area and looking for bar-type fare. read more

This is not edible. You will get sick if you eat there. The drinks are good, and the service is good, but the food is horrible. The slaw is totally inedible. The grilled chicken only comes with nasty sauces. I tried the bourbon sauce, but it was just nasty barbecue sauce, and the chicken was cardboard. They won't dress your sandwich, either. We were tired when we rolled in at 8:40 on a Wednesday night, so I hadn't thoroughly read the Yelp reviews to understand the ordering system. When we ordered our drinks the server explained that we had to order food at the counter and also let us know the kitchen closed at 9 PM, so we quickly got in our food requests. Drinks were very inexpensive and our drink server was great. Food came out in about 10 minutes and was hot and tasty. Portions were also generous. I got the Cajun chicken sandwich, which was a very plump breast with a tangy sauce. The baked bean side was a good sized portion with a nice tangy taste. My wife got the BBQ shrimp kabob appetizer for her meal. It was a great value for the price and the shrimp were good-again, with a nice, tangy sauce. Gambling in the back-we did not partake of that.
